So we get a drink at the bar and we are greeted by a very flat, unfriendly "what do you want" from our less than enthusiastic bartender. Once we are finally seated outside, we are consistently attacked by gnats the rest of the dinner. Greeted once again by a less than friendly waitress. My husband had a dozen very fresh clams on the half shell, and I had truly delicious clams casino--the first really good ones I've had in years. As a main, we each had very good fried cod--Sean as fish 'n chips, and me as a sandwich, and then dessert: I especially recommend the apple spring rolls--lovely spicing and nicely crispy. Our waitress, Dawn, was friendly and helpful; we took her recommendations on the clams, wine and dessert and were glad we did. By far this restaurant has been the best in all areas you'd judge a restaurant on. The staff is fantastic, the food is amazing and although we haven't taken complete advantage of their Happy Hour, it's always hopping! We prefer the restaurant side due to the atmosphere. Horrible, horrible service. We were a party of 10 for my niece's law school graduation. A reservation was made in advance. Drinks took 15-20 minutes to arrive. Appetizers were ordered right when we arrived, and once finished, the plates/platters were not cleared for at least 30 minutes. Our dinner order was abruptly taken, we were not given specials sheet. Salads came out, and the servers carried bowls on top of each other so the bottom of the bowl on top was resting on the lettuce of bowl beneath. Salad was just iceberg with a few grape tomatoes thrown on top and a plastic cup of dressing. One person's salad was forgotten and we had to ask for it. Never once did anyone apologize. No bread was served. Then we waited for our dinners, and some ordered a 2nd drink which once again took 15-20 minutes. Dinners were brought out, and servers had no clue who ordered what. Food was mediocre at best. I brought an ice cream cake for dessert I picked up from local farm. The cake was never presented to my niece, slices of melted cake were slapped on the table. My sister asked if there was any left to take home, the waitress replied "It was all gloppy" with still no apologies. They ruined the cake and my niece never even saw it. The entire horrible experience took close to 3 hours. I felt bad for my out-of-town sister and brother in law. They invited a couple they have not seen in a while and it was embarrassing. If I was the one paying, I would have spoken to a manager but didn't want to step on my brother-in-law's toes. I had my wedding at Riverview Bistro in their banquet room and it was fantastic. The staff was helpful through the entire process. Lindsey, the banquet coordinator was there for me every step of the way. Riverview took care of many of the small details I wouldn't have thought it, they also allowed my fiance to be a part of setting up to calm his nerves. It was beautiful day (in November!) and we got married outside, Riverview set all of this up for us. The ceremony was set with a perfect backdrop on their back patio. The reception was beautiful, we had almost 70 people and the room was not overcrowded at all. The appetizers were delicious, they even saved some for my husband and I for after the photos. The main course was out of this world. We chose filet mignon for our beef and every person had a perfectly cooked piece of meat. The chef cooked each dish to order. We had gone to riverview many times after booking our wedding and each and every time the food was delicious and the staff was fantastic. Lindsey could not be rated any higher on my list of people in this process. She was fantastic. They day was beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food was out of this world. BUT: No cocktail napkins given on a hot day outdoors, led to rivers of water coursing over our table & everyone else's until I finally got up & asked for them. Took our server at least 15 minutes to ask the bartender if he could make the drink we wanted & return to take our order. Drinks were finally served when one of our party got her soup. Our app was never delivered. Server offered to remove it from our bill but took no responsibility: "I told them to bing it out"', nor did he offer any other solution. Was there on 4/9/16 for restaurant week in Stratford. First we had a reservation for 4. When we arrived we informed them our party was not coming we were put to a tiny table. That's fine but our booked table of 4 was given to a party of 2 right after we sat down. Next we ordered from the set menu for restaurant week. My wife ordered the pasta with chicken and mushrooms. Came out in a huge portion. I ordered the flank steak in the honey glazed. Omg now I wish I took a picture. There were 6 tiny pieces of steak I mean tiny. Just went to Riverview Bistro for my birthday and had nothing but good things to say about the food, service, and atmosphere. I had the seafood Alfredo specialty dish and my boyfriend had the NY steak strip. Both dishes were AMAZING. The portion sizes were huge and the steak was cooked perfectly. We went there today for Easter brunch we were a seated by a waitress and that was the last we saw of her as for the food the eggs tasted like powdered eggs very gummy, the deviled eggs were undercooked and had a crust on them also the filling appeared to be a day old , as it was discolored , the roast beef was basically undercooked and extremely fatty you could see it left over on many other plates the pasta was undercooked and hard. The mimosa had hardly any Champaign​ in it. As I had three and could not taste it. the string beans still had their stems on them and not cleaned undercooked. if you wanted coffee or tea or soda that cost was additional. . The potatoes were cold . we had to wait and get the manager at the end of the meal because our waitress was nowhere in site after waiting 15 minutes we were presented our bill which included a 20 % gratuity on it. That's apparently why the wait staff wasn't worried about providing service they're their tips were by default on your bill ..never visiting here again for holidays or in general . not worth the cost read more

This is my first Yelp review because I felt the service and food were so amazing it warrants sharing. I held my daughter's Sweet 16 at Riverview this weekend and start to finish it was absolutely perfect. The banquet room is absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the ocean and marshes and three sets of glass double doors leading to a deck. The ceilings are high and the room is beautifully decorated. We met with Chris twice before the party to help us plan the menu and floor design. He was helpful, patient and attentive both times. I had no worries and completely trusted he would cover every detail and he did! At the event, the food was served on time and the spread looked absolutely delicious. Everything was the perfect temperature (they offer an array of hot and cold appetizers) and the flavors were beyond what I expected. Our guest were eating all night! Chris kept checking in with my daughter and anything she wanted he made happen. I honestly couldn't have been more pleased. His staff was also amazing, especially Linda who worked the room with other amazing staff- the food never ran low, everyone always had a full drink and the tables were kept clean despite being a party with 60 teens. I have no idea how she they it. Staff was kind, friendly, attentive and always smiling. I highly recommend Riverview for parties and events. I've been to this place before, but from what I was told recently it was bought and owned by somebody different now? Anyways. I came here with a group of friends last weekend before we went to Derby for fireworks for 4th of July. We all skipped appetizers and went straight for our dinners. A couple of us went with pasta, a couple with fish. The food was delicious, and definitely filling. The prices are a little astronomical to be honest, and it can get expensive fast. The drinks were delicious and so were the side salads. I wish they offered you a ceasar side salad as an alternative, I usually like that better than the dinner salads, but you know. I was also disappointed to know that their stuffing for the shrimp and sole was made with crab meat. They should definitely have one without crab for people who don't eat crab. Anyways, the service and food were fine, but my two stars come from the RUDEST owner I have ever met. After dinner, my friends and I walked down to the little pier they have by the water. We weren't there 5 SECONDS before the owner came running down screaming her head off saying we couldn't be there because it was private property....it was literally a dock. No boat was there, and the dock looked like it's seen better days anyways. Didn't know we were disrupting something or somebody that wasn't there. We walked back to our cars and made our game plan for what we wanted to do next because it was still a little to early for fireworks. ANOTHER person (a gentleman) came down to us this time and said "Are you guys leaving yet? I thought she had asked you to leave? If you guys want to stay and hang out you will have to pay $10 to use the parking lot." Nobody said anything so I spoke up and said "we just got done eating..." He obviously looked embarrassed and said "you guys ate here?" and I responded with, "yeah, you saw us walk past you about an hour ago, and our food is right here." He said "enjoy" and walked away. Really?!!!!! This is how you treat people that just dropped close to $300 at your restaurant. Thanks lady, you can take your money and shove it, since you are obviously hard up for the cash since you want to charge $10 to people to hang out in your unpaved and unmaintained parking lot. We will NOT be returning here ever, and I'm glad I can share my experience with other people so they know what they are getting into when they come here. I don't think I would go back here again. The best thing this place has going for it is the location. The outdoor deck is really nice although it can get buggy. The service here was terrible. It took us two hours to have one drink an appetizer and two dinners. The waitress was MIA for the majority of our meal and rushed off after placing our plates down. Twice I had to flag down another server for water. I might be more generous with the stars if the food was worth waiting for, but it definitely was not. I had the stuffed sole which was rubbery and fishy tasting. The mashed potato and sauce were just okay. My BF ordered the seafood risotto, which was more like seafood with rice and broth. This was by no means a risotto dish, it was closer to a soup. The only thing I can say about it is that the portion was large. Although it wasn't very good, so the size is irrelevant. Our calamari appetizer was good, but pretty average as far as calamari goes. Overall, I would advise going somewhere else. read more

I had my bridal shower here last Sunday and I am so thankful to Riverview Bistro for making it an incredible day for me. Everything was top notch: the service and the food, not to mention the beautiful location. Their banquet room is modern, spacious and beautiful - with an incredible view of the river and a nice patio/deck area right off the banquet room. Too bad it was 90 degrees outside that day and so it was too hot to be on the patio, but I would highly recommend it for a nice dinner on the deck. As a matter of fact - I think i will bring my fiance here for dinner one of those nights, if anything then for the view. The food was delicious though! Half of my soon to be family is first-generation Italian so they know good food when they see it. I also wanted to make sure that the room is not only beautiful, but the food is excellent. We had a 6-station buffet consisting of the following: salad, lemon chicken, pork loin, roasted potatoes, penne a la vodka and zucchini and squash. My appetizer selection consisted of the bruschetta station, antipasto station, veggie tray, tomato/mozzarella tray, and clams casino. Everyone was raving about the clams casino! They all enjoyed the food very much - so did I. The lemon chicken was my favorite, I even went back for seconds! It was very nice that at the end of the event they pack up any leftovers for you in trays - I didn't have to cook dinner for my fiance for 2 days, which was an added bonus. With our selections I had also ordered mimosas for everyone (they are $3 extra per person). I thought everyone would just get a glass, but it was great to find out that they were unlimited refills! The mimosas were a big hit among the ladies. Those and the 2 bottles of wine on each table made it possible for us not to have to include an open bar, which honestly was not necessary for a Sunday early afternoon. Justin and Allie were helping us that day. They were very polite, attentive and helpful. I had a couple of requests that were taken care of immediately and without hesitation (for example, I needed an extra table for my desserts - which they accommodated). I received so many compliments about the food and the location - several of my guests mentioned "wow, I didn't even know this place was back here", saying what a nice view it has. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone and If i ever need to have another event - they will be my first choice. I should also mention that prior to booking this event, I went there with my Mom for dinner to see how the food was.
