Our family have been coming to this restaurant since it opened. Always enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and service. Yesterday evening we had the opportunity to have an impromptu dinner at Riverwalk. It was not busy, so we walked right in. We had the full attention of the server. We got drinks, and bread; the server took our order, then we waited for any hour. Received no word about our meals, no drink refills, no checking us. It reach a point when we had to leave. I contacted the manager who proceeded to tell us there was a proponent with one of our orders (a salad). It did not come out right, so they had to re-do the order. We asked for a check or the meal. They produced the meal and we were told we were unreasonable in our expectations. I was shocked. Took our meal home. The food was good but a chance at a nice treat was a wash. We understand things happen but we never receive a word from management. Then go be told it is normal to wait an hour was the final straw. Reading other reviews with similar comments/concerns expressed would lead me to believe that the manager on duty or management in general especially during the week are lacking and changing an otherwise excellent dinning experience into something to be avoided. read more

Four of us went there for dinner yesterday. Indeed, the entrees were very expensive for what you got. We ordered the French onion soup. It was very good, just a bit too salty. The scallop/pork belly was good. The veal was served with the bone. The flattened portion of the veal was cooked appropriately, but the meat near the bone was raw. THe crab cakes were delicious, and solid crab meat. The elk chops were a bit dry, and could have used a flavorful sauce. Service was spotty. Our server was not idle, but he did not know how to service multiple tables. If he took care of the needs of one table, he could not stop at another table until he had finished with the first table. We had to wait continuously to get his attention. For a restaurant that charges $30 plus for many of the entrees, including the elk chops, the food and service should have been spot on. read more

Enjoyed sunset ambiance and some great food, friendly staff and reasonable price on double date. Had two rather green staff that seemed to understand less than me on their menu and wines, but gracious and professional regardless. Loved seeing the setting day coloring the York River and a quaint location. read more

Had a very nice lunch there today after walking there from the Battlefield Visitor Center. The Blue Plate was very good including an awesome cup of mother crap soup. My wife had the grouper sandwich and that was also very good. The staff was friendly and the service was good. read more

Beautiful setting/location. We went for super early dinner before dinner crowd showed up. My boyfriends sandwich was very good. It consisted of corned beef and some sort if different type of relish whether it was a type of sauerkraut unknown to us or some type of different coke-slaw on it. It was very tasty and on good dark rye bread as it should be. The side salad was disappointing and I am not a fan of the greens mix they used (I know it's popular or higher end restaurants to use it but frankly it looks exactly like the stuff we fed our rabbits back when I was a kid. I am not fond of the texture or flavor and much prefer romaine despite it being passé). Okay, now for my Cobb salad. Keep in mind I am a Cobb salad snob so bear with me. I was sorely disappointed that a restaurant of this caliber could not get a Cobb salad right! I cannot express the degree if disappointment I had. They used ice burg lettuce (wth) and they absolutely made no effort to chop the lettuce the way it should be for a Cobb salad (which is part of the allure of Cobb salad and which also contributes to the marrying if flavors when u mix them all up). And it is so much more elegant to eat when chopped properly! Inexcusable in my opinion that such a simple classic dish could be treated so lazily. They rely on the fact that there is crab (a generous amount) scooped in the top of the salad when they preset it. Ridiculous. Then they fail to use blue cheese (disaster). There is no avocado (disaster) and the items were not finely diced as they should be for a proper Cobb salad. Then they give you a side of tasteless ranch to top it all off. I am sorry but Hidden Valley Ranch is superior to the dressing they present with this. (And you would think with how expensive this place is, that they could make an attempt to make their version of "ranch dressing" palatable. Besides, a truly delicious Cobb salad doesn't necessitate salad dressing (but is just a nice thing to have). The flavor was like mayo (yuck). Even if they had given a wedge or two of lemon and cracked pepper for the crab it would have been much better. Alas, never again will I order a Cobb salad from them. I can guarantee if they offered cracked pepper (which a restaurant charging what they charge should offer across the board) and the lemon it would have been tolerable. But no blue cheese, no avocado, no romaine . Ugh. Just a sad sad salad. I am sure someone who likes bland food would have found it appealing (ugh). Now one thing that would have made their Reuben-esque sand which amazing would have been to stack that unique mixture of cole-slaw/sauerkraut on top of some steak fries! That would put the sandwich over the top for amazing...reminiscent of the deli's in Pittsburgh! read more

Stopped in on a rainy day after touring Yorktown. The food was excellent. The waitress was friendly and informative. I got the avacado skins app and my hubby got the calamari app which was quite large. Also tried the tomato basil soup with lump crab. Wine beer and food all delicious. read more

This is one of our favorites. We can boat and dock there faster than we can drive. We are on the York river. The marina folks are great especially Sue. Tie up and have a beer or two with lunch. Burgers and fish tacos are great. We drive up for dinners often and sit at the bar. Always have a great time. read more

I have to say this was an awesome dinning experience here. Good atmosphere, and the lasagna, is the best lasagna that I ever have tasted. And the mashed potatoes were also good. It's also has a river view and great views from the restaurant. And I highly recommend that you come try it yourself. read more

Had lunch here after our driving tour of Yorktown Battlefield. Great views and fabulous food. Goat cheese stuffed Meatballs and Baked Brie were fantastic. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

This was our second trip to Riverwalk. Our first visit, lunch with friends, was fantastic! The food was delicious and presented to perfection. The staff was engaging and attentive. We couldn't think of a better place to be on a rainy day. We raved about the place so much that we returned with another couple for dinner last week. Our second trip was not so good. Started off by not giving us the correct menus. My husband's menu didn't match ours,and he was having a difficult time ordering dinner! Then the bread came. We were given about a teaspoon of butter for 4 people. We asked for more butter but it never came. We asked for more bread and butter. When the bread came there was still no butter. We finally got extra butter after the third request. Entrees arrived. My friend who ordered their Blue Plate, complained that the oysters were soggy. Not something you expect in a place like Riverwalk. All of the entrees were good otherwise. Nothing memorable, but good. We had ordered two Blue Plates, a Chicken Marsala and a Veal Picata with house salads. Then came desert. My friend had ordered a Blueberry cobbler. We had been told that if we wanted cobbler we had to order it when we ordered our entrees since it took about longer to prepare. Well, the blueberry cobbler, complete with melting vanilla ice cream, arrived before all of us had finished our entrees. Our server couldn't take it back to the kitchen. So the plates were cleared very quickly and we shared the cobbler. Oh, my husband and I didn't want cobbler in the first place. Our server presumed we were sharing and never gave us a chance to order desert! Then it was time for coffee. My friends and my husband all ordered coffee. My friend got hers, but no one else did. Trying to flag down our server did no good. Finally one of us had to get up and go over to someone to get coffee. Then came time for the check. Did I mention that this place is on the pricey side? We were aware of the prices from our previous visit. Had the quality of the meals and the service been up to the same level as our previous visit, the cost of the evening would not have been an issue. From reading previous reviews,some felt they were treated like tourists. Maybe that's what happened to us. Our first visit was on a rainy day in December. Our second visit was on a Saturday evening in June during tourist season. However, the restaurant was busy but not crowded. There probably won't be a third visit. read more

I would recommend this place to anyone. Hands down the best lobster and filet I've had, sliced the meat like butter! The service was amazing, the view was amazing. Let me say Jacob was at his best compared to the kitchen.... I forgot that a well cooked steak(that was ordered medium rare) was best done on your own. The crab dip was well made. Ran out of chips.... Elk chops amazing. Manager never came to talk about anything. Sad to say that I've brought people at least 8 times and the last two times I would have preferred a fast food joint.... At least I would know what to expect! Read a few more reviews on the site and sadly there is a theme.... Focus on the food be a leader and own the opportunity! BTW thank you for the the flash back.... You called it Mac and cheese..... In the army we called it chili Mac!.... I will finish with me saying I didn't ask for anything I ordered deserts to go... I stumbled across this restaurant during an extended business trip in the area and was very pleasantly surprised. It is off season so there weren't any crowds to deal with. Even so, it did take a while for a server to come to our table after being seated in the main dining room (great table at the window overlooking the York River). During that wait, we decided to move to the bar area and have our meal there. Good choice for us - even better view of the bridge and river from the high top corner table. This was a casual meal for us and we didn't order much. But what we did was great - feta stuffed meatballs with homemade marinara sauce were delicious, as was the lobster pot pie and fish and chips. The dessert special of apple bread pudding was a perfect ending to our meal. Other than our wait when we were first seated, staff was very attentive and the decor and cleanliness of the restaurant stood out to me. Since I am not familiar with many other restaurants in the area, it's hard for me to compare but I suspect this is a little pricier than others. But to me the ambience, food and setting were well worth it. I will definitely be back. read more

The best first and last place to eat. Doing Easter weekend here in Williamsburg, love the waterfront. This place is so worth the price. The seafood is so fresh. The server named Sean is the best. We're even coming back on Sunday morning for the Easter buffet. Recommend sitting outside to enjoy the waterfront and watch the Schooner Alliance sail on the water. So beautiful. Took my wife here for our anniversary dinner. Our table was in front of a large window with a beautiful view of the York river and Coleman bridge. Our waiter Schuyler was very helpful and knowledgeable of the menu and pairing a wine with our meal. The food was exceptional we shared a three tower seafood appetizer and a rockfish meal and a wonderful bottle of French Pinot noir. read more

I had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant with my family on Friday, Aug. 16th. We ate out on the patio. The weather was gorgeous and the view was amazing. I ordered the special, which was grouper. It was PHENOMINAL!!!!!! It is the best seafood dish I have had in a very long time, and I'm from Rhode Island! The food was delicious, and the staff was very courteous and professional. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Yorktown area. read more

The wife and I went there for the lighted boat show in December. We "ordered the sea food platter and the only thing that was edible was the crab cake. The flounder on 1" by 3" piece of over cooked, two shrimp that was over cooked and probably frozen before cooking. One oyster that was not cooked entirely thru, meaning the batter was runny. Like I said the crab cake was good. We ordered the blueberry cobbler and it came out rock hard like a cookie and blue berries spread overt. The hostess was nice. For the 24.95 that was charged for each of the samplers I could have gone somewhere else and got better food for less money. I will not be going there next year. read more

My Dad and I went to an early dinner on a Sunday and our server was nice enough but she had no idea how to wait tables. First they put us at a table with a closet behind my chair and 3 times a server had to get into the closet. We order a nice bottle of wine, the server said "I don't know how to serve a whole bottle of wine." I said, "well first, these are white wine glasses." She said, "this is all we have." With a full bar and a nice wine list I would imagine a restaurant like Riverwalk would know the difference between a white wine glass and a red. She then struggled with trying to even open the bottle with a wine key. I literally took it out of her hands and did it myself. I ordered my duck mid rare, it was definitely rare. The flavor was great, perfectly seasoned. She never came back to the table to refill our wine glasses. We spent well over $150 on dinner and the service was terrible. I fell like just a little more training and she would have been fine. read more

We eat here often, when we travel to Williamsburg, since it's just a short trip down the Colonial Parkway (very scenic). I have not tried the informal cafe, as we have always eaten in the restaurant dining room, which overlooks the river. The food is a little pricey, but it is a lovely spot to enjoy a quiet meal and enjoy the view. My only complaint (and it's not the fault of the restaurant) is the occasional tourist family, that comes in with children who are too young and ill-mannered for a dining room setting. It has spoiled a few dinners for us (including birthday meals). I wish the restaurant owners could think of a tactful but firm way to direct these families to the more casual cafe side. It's hard to enjoy a $25 entree when, at the next table, a toddler is screaming, while parents and grandparents look around with smiles and giggles, as if the rest of the world finds their child "adorable." read more

The River Walk is a terrible place to eat if you're trying to eat healthy. On the menu, the entrees appear not to have any vegetables. We ordered three entrees, and two came as described (no vegetables), but mine came with vegetables. Had I known about them, I wouldn't have ordered a salad. Now about that salad: they have a nice salad menu, and there is the option of adding a side of fish or crab. I have never been to a restaurant where you could add meat to a salad where the salad wasn't a dinner-size salad. Also, the price suggested that they were, because a salad with meat was about $15-18. After the waitress explained, I said I thought it was weird that the menu gave the opposite impression. She paused, took a step away, walked back, and demanded an explanation for why that was weird. What ensued was the oddest exchange, where she proceeded to give me the exact proportions, down to the number of candied pecans, on the salad I was interested in. And she wouldn't leave. I actually had to ask her to. This was not the only example of bad behavior. She tended to overshare about herself, hover, take food and plates without asking, and just generally insert herself in our meal. My meal was oversalted to an extreme degree, to the point that I could feel the salt crunching in my mouth, including on the vegetables. Either their chef doesn't know what he is doing, or the waitress oversalted my food to express her obvious anger that I challenged their menu. Either way, no one should eat there.
