We stayed for 3 days at The Riviera Hotel South Beach last week. I always see this hotel because it's just a few blocks from where I live. The hotel have 3 buildings and I booked the one in front of the bar, Sweet Liberty Drinks and Supply Company. We had the Deluxe One Bedroom Queen Suite. It has a queen bed, living room. dining area, kitchen, 2 tv's, microwave oven, fridge, coffee maker, dishwasher and a nice bathroom. The hotel have a beautiful lobby with a bar, a restaurant and a cafe. They also have a rooftop pool and another pool at the ground floor of my building. The pools were open at daytime. The suite was spacious, clean, the ac was working well and cold, perfect for the 100 degree Miami weather. The housekeeping staff cleaned and replaced the towels in my room. The couch need to be changed though, it is old and a few visible tear. Front desk was good, checking in and out was okay. There have tv's in the bedroom and the living room. The cable, or maybe it was just regular tv channels were limited and the tv reception was bad. The location is perfect. It is a short walk to the beach, Sweet Liberty Bar, Kith Store, Bass Museum and Park, a Public Library, Liquor Store, a Deli and Mini Supermarket, CVS and Walgreens. Overall, we had a great stay. Update: after publishing my review, I got an email from the General Manager. I also got a phone call from the hotel itself; however, when I asked for the hotel to call me back, as I was in the middle of something rather important, they never did. I will say this: while the room was good, I probably would not stay here again during my next trip solely because of the lack of communication. It should not take over 30 calls and a poor review to get answers. I do respect the GM for reaching out and wish them the best of luck. read more

Booked a 4-star hotel. Got a DIRTY and UNSAFE hotel, instead. - Mold growing in various parts of the hotel room -- including bathroom and on ceiling in main part of room. - The elevator was not working/in-service most of the time that I was staying at the hotel. - Several times a day and night, the main audible fire warning system (outside of the rooms) sounded loudly. The hotel staff provided no clarification of any emergency. This continued during my whole entire hotel stay. Sliding glass patio/balcony door could not be closed fully/locked. Huge safety risk -- anyone could have come into my room during any time. Including when I was sleeping! Was terrifying. This was caused by portable air conditioner exhaust tube was propped up out of the sliding class door. Door was taped closed with metal duct tape. - Air conditioner was plugged in through extension cord (via desk) -- against code, and severe fire hazard. - Hotel room frequently smelled of marijuana throughout my entire stay. - The toilet would not flush well. Had to make several attempts to get it to flush. Sometimes it wouldn't. This was only just with urine that it wouldn't flush! - I was charged a very expensive resort fee that was not detailed anywhere in the booking. - Candy at the room (extra charge) snack station was moldy, old and soggy. - Furniture and fixtures were chipped and shoddy. - Bathroom tiles were in poor condition - Room refrigerator was dirty and unsafe to use. read more

Everyone that works at this hotel is super nice. When we checked in is was raining and I was tired. Our room was in a building across the street and the manager helped us with our luggage. Mauricio went out of his way to drive us to our festival in the rain on our 2nd day there. We felt like family. We didn't want to leave. read more

First: the cleaning staff is amazing, kind, wonderful! That said... Unbelievable! Stayed here for 4 nights. Did not ask for a single thing (other than hangers), but tried for 2 days to get the hotel to answer the phone. THERE WAS NO TELEPHONE IN OUR ROOM, so you HAVE to call on your cell phone. Well, the shower was leaking to the point of flooding the bathroom floor, which I WOULD have told them, if they'd answered the phone! So, I walked to the office, brought a plastic bag with the wet floor towels, to explain. The guy at the desk asked if I speak Spanish, and I said I was learning. He starts berating me in Spanish, super fast, and I explain I don't understand. The girl at the desk tells me he's "basically" telling me it's my fault.... they're not supposed to take dirty towels, and I should have called. I SHOW THEM THE PHONE, and the guy gets even madder, and acts like it's all my fault, for bringing the towels. Shame on me, for thinking it would save them the trouble! I will never forget how that man belittled me, ruined the experience, and made me feel like I was at fault...for THEIR leaking shower, soaking towels, not answering the phone, and daring to bring the wet towels to them, in a plastic bag. The beautiful blue eyed lady at the front desk, Suz was great despite the many issues out of her control. Great location, 3 blocks from the beach. As for my stay; - I stayed in building 3, and my room was not great... - I had coworkers stay in building 1 w/no complaints. - I got late checkout (13:00) for free if I wrote a google review ($25 normally) - There was a lovely used shower cap in my bathroom upon arrival. It was not mine :)) - They nicely changed the trash bags in the hallway at 10:45pm. - The Shower head had issues, was unclean and no pressure. See video - I had a room next to the elevator and could not only hear the people waiting, but also the mechanics of the elevator! So fun! - The room could use a touch up of paint, and a deep clean. -never had the bathroom trash changed, doubt they went behind the door. -I think it would be great if the hotel invested in some bleach for the towels. For a $300 night, mold/hair in the shower, hairs on the towels, brown crusted stains on the comforter. When we arrived to our room the a/c unit was blasting cold air, the room felt so humid (even though it was 60 degrees outside and wasn't humid outside) that you could hardly breathe, the sheets felt wet, and there was a puddle of water on the floor. We notified the front desk after trying to tolerate it for 1-2 hours and they didn't have a room for us to switch. They said they would send a maintenance man to check on us and we requested a linens change. They send a "maintenance" guy up who knocked on the door and just stood there on the phone ignoring us for so long when we opened it that we just let it close again. He came in and seemed so disinterested in our discomfort asking us if we messed with the a/c unit, seemingly implying that the humidity was our fault? And we informed him that we had adjusted it 20 mins prior. He plugged some settings in and left. The linen change & a/c adjustment did help but we were not offered any other compensation for the horrendous circumstances we walked into. read more

Booked hotel specifically with fitness center in mind and there wasn't one. The room my first night was loud and dirty with shower gel in shampoo container and deadbolt on door was broken. Property was old and outdated. Not sure what the resort fee covered since there was no access to beach chairs and not even a coffee maker in the room or lobby. I travel all the time for work and specifically picked a 4 star boutique hotel. I felt completely scammed and would never stay here again. read more

This hotel is a hidden gem. With two pools, a small alleyway restaurant/ bar with a FREE happy hour and staff who go above and beyond! We found it on TripAdvisor for a short 3 day Monday- Wednesday before our cruise trip. The front desk staff was informative and helpful. Our room was 101. Tiny but perfect for two people. The set back for the shower is that the water goes right out! The glass needed to be on the opposite side for sure. We let them know and used towels on the floor. It was tight to shower so close to the corner of the wall. One pool is located roof top with a fun sitting area. Real plants and floats. The other pool is across the street and is so adorable. It has plenty of fun seatings, a bar, fresh iced water and plants. The vibe of the hotel is very speakeasy. I loved the free happy hour 5-6pm. Two drinks to choose from. If I could rate this hotel ZERO stars, I absolutely would! I will give a positive review for the hotel staff and we did not expierence any bugs,but other than that, this hotel was an abosolute waste of money and expierence! OPAL, the "manager", needs to undergo some additional professional development before she continues or else she is going to lose the staff that she has. From my understanding, 3 months prior, this hotel did not have the complaints that they are experiencing now. Management change is very telling! The fact that they have 4.2 stars on Google is misleading, and I am assuming they are deleting the bad reviews because there is no way on this hotel diserves anything other than a 1 star. I should have known this hotel was going to be a mess when I specifically booked my stay directly with the hotel to take advantage of the advertised discounts. I chose not to book via American Airlines, where I could have earned additional miles. Instead, I booked directly online and attempted to put in the discount code listed on their homepage and it did not work. After booking, I called and was told to call back the following Monday so that the manager could fix it. After following up, I was told that even though the code is on the site, it is no longer valid. Management refused to accommodate my two reservations in ANY way. I requested an early check-in or a late check-out and was told no. I asked if they offered anything to accommodate their false advertisement, and was told no. I also could not request a refund because they did not offer any refunds for cancellations. Let's start with this not being a "luxury boutique" that it's promoted as being. You cannot see the beach from any view, if your restroom blinds are even slightly open, customers who are walking past your room can see straight into your restoom/shower area. The 4 nights that we were there, we had to constantly ask for small washcloths, it wasn't until the 4th night that we were able to obtain 2...keep in mind we had 2 rooms. We asked for towels twice a day, only to get the same response that they are being washed. The restaurant on the first floor had karaoke-style entertainment that went on for hours. With the thin doors and walls, there was nothing to drown out the sound. Our door panel stopped working, even after the key was changed several times. We were locked out. Hotel guests who seemed to be living there were arguing up and down the walkway for hours, unhoused individuals made themselves comfortable in the hotel lobby, everytime you flush the toilet, the pipes made a loud squealing sound and smelled like sewage. Never mind paying $40 per night to park in the garage; that was self-parking, and we were blocked in by other vehicles! This was the worst experience EVER. Let's get back to Ms. Opal! In case your staff hasn't told you, out of fear of retaliation... since you took over, the hotel's customer service has gone down tremendously. They have expressed their concerns and told you many times that you cannot treat guests the way that you did. You address the problem and offer a solution. You don't wait until someone is ready to sling you across the counter to want to fix something. You speak with respect and in a tone that is not condescending.  0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND! The location is very good and the hotel is very nice, but the rooms are very ugly. The first room they gave me had a problem--the door didn't work properly. It would get stuck and wouldn't close well, so I asked for a change. They moved me to a room where the window faces a wall that is completely covered in mold and in very poor condition. I booked my trip with a travel agency which I will never do again!! Me and my husband decided to stay at the Rivera hotel because the pictures and location seemed local so we didn't have to walk to far to sigh see and it was my husband first time in south beach Miami and our one year anniversary. However, it was a nightmare. When we got to the hotel they said we had to pay the resort fee of $104 for 4 days but when we booked it with the travel agent it was confirmed for $90 when we got to the front desk, her name was Marlene and the manager I didn't get her name. She didn't want to honor the resort fee of $90 that was agreed upon arrival. She REFUSED to honor it and kept telling me that it's not on her to honor the change and that I need to contact the agency who booked it because I should be upset with them not her! When that was never the case: I was upset because of their nasty approach and tone: They both so rude and disrespectful it instantly changed my mood and desire to stay there! The manager was RUDE! Especially Marlene, who was one of the worse people I have ever encountered in my life. That thing does not need a job helping customers. She needs to get FIRED! So many ppl had issues with her that I witness her speaking to them. When she refuse to check me in, I asked her why is she so rude she's then turned to me and said "I complain about everything" that since I got there I haven't been happy so why stay there!!! Like EXCUSE me? Who are you speaking to? How dare you say that when you barely can speak an ounce of English? I literally put her in her place and will NEVER stay there again! Unless you're white and have money or present that you have money you'd get good service!! Just disrespectful. She ruined my trip. We only spent the night there because they wouldn't refund my money back. But to those who want to stay there PLEASE read the reviews because I have no idea who's giving them a 5 star hotel stay when they don't have central air, everything smelled like bleach, I had to asked them a few times to not clean my room with bleach because I am sensitive to smell. Which they ignored and we had to go to CVS get a bottle of spray to air out the room. The roof top pool was dirty and disgusting, no life guard, the pool looks green, the room was smaller than my bedroom. The bathroom didn't have a shower door so we had to use a towel on the floor to prevent the water from getting into the room. The bathroom has a stand up shower and toilet, the sink is in the bedroom, and the AC was leaking water. The TV didn't work, it was static and the channels are 1-25. Very horrible experience. I have several pictures I have to upload and do a Tik Tok version as well. It's a beautiful and cozy vibes. But the STAFF are RUDE, DISGUSTING attitude. It was a lovely memorial weekend stay. The staff Rina was very helpful and friendly. She allowed us early check in and provided beach towel while we waited. The hotel is nicely decorated. I felt home when entering the lobby. The music in the lobby was very soothing and chill. Location is excellent! Walking distance to Lincoln road and beach. The roof top bar is lovely. The only flaw is the room not being well sound proofed. We woke up in the middle of the night from hearing couples fighting and doors being shut. read more

Do NOT stay at this hotel. The worst place to stay in Miami Beach. If I could give this place a negative star review, I would! Where do I begin...My husband and I stay at this hotel almost every year because it has a kitchen in their suites. Every year, we do have multiple issues with the service and hotel, but more on a smaller scale. We are business owners and understand that not everything will always be perfect. Therefore, with these smaller issues each time, we gave this hotel grace. However, we just stayed here this past New Year for 7 nights in a suite and upgraded the last two night to their Penthouse. We figured why not splurge and treat ourselves to one of their top tier rooms within their hotel. It was terrible!!! First of all the penthouse definitely needs to be updated and the cleaning staff need more education on how to truly clean. It was basic surface cleaning with dust and film still visible. The hot water does not work in this penthouse (A) and we had to have the maintenance come a few times to fix this. Once they did, the hot water went out 5 minutes later. We could not take proper showers nor could we fully utilize the kitchen sink. This was awful with having our children with us...At this hotel, the front desk phone number they have unplugged and does not work. (This came directly from the front staff) We had to keep going across the street to speak to the front desk about every issue we had. (Probably from the surge of all of the complaints). It truly was such a terrible experience. Let's just put it this way, we had to go to the front desk so much for every time the hot water went out or for every time our room was not clean or for any other issue, that the front desk started to become annoyed with us. It was so unprofessional...one of the staff members even rolled her eyes when we entered the lobby. We couldn't believe it. Believe it when I say that it was simple hotel accommodations that did not meet simple hotel accommodations. We tried to reach out to management and they do not care at all. We even went as high as seeking help from the top of the company who are In charge of this hotel and we did not receive any help. I waited to post this review to give them grace, but now we are almost a month past our stay, with no resolution and I think that future guests should know the truth about this place. we stayed the week before New Year's Where do I start? Check-in was the longest procedure. I've ever encountered with desk clerks who had no idea what was going on. Visually the room was OK but the refrigerator never kept anything cold The shower handle literally moved in the wall, and there were two cockroaches in the shower a medicine tablet of some kind on the floor in the hallway that was there for the entire six days we were there Towels in the room were scant finding hotel staff to rectify. I enjoyed my stay here. The double bed rooms are quaint but enough room to be comfortable. We didn't spend too much time in the room anyway. The bathrooms are tiny though, almost have to step into the shower to close the door to use the toilet lol. They'll provide you with beach towels if you ask for them at the front desk. We spent a good amount of time at the rooftop pool, which was a nice option after being at the beach. Another big thing is they provide free water! I loved that! The only negative is they don't hold luggage, so if you have a late flight, keep that in mind. The location is great. It's a few steps to Collins St. and a 2 min walk to the beach. There's a CVS on the corner and a restaurant/bar that stays open until 5 am across the street. read more

I would urge anyone not to stay at the hotel. The service is awful. Took me over 40 minutes just to get checked in. The room was not fully cleaned and when I asked for them to reclean they just changed the towels. There was a musty smell. The pool was under repairs (I was notified before checking in these repairs would be finished before check in). They have been unresponsive to customer service requests. A breath of fresh air, an escape from mainstream lodging. This boutique hotel is beautifully maintained, as well as eclectically saturated in art that speaks to you. Live music in the evening, wonderful balcony rooms which overlook the city streets which come to life, day or night. I was very pleased. I fully intend on staying again. My only suggestion; Slightly larger refrigerators, if your hotel intends on stocking them to their fullest. It was a bit hard to manage, or place any drink in to cool if opened. read more

The reviews about bugs are not false! When I read the review about cockroaches, I hoped they were lying but they're indeed true. I mentioned the bug issue at checkin and the clerk advised me that it was due to people leaving windows open and upgraded our room. Imagine an upgrade with bugs! We spot to the front desk and they wouldn't give a refund only offered late checkout and to clean the room. Stay away from Riviera Roach Suites! And don't book with Hotwire! They will not issue a refund because we didn't see the bugs when we checked in. Sorry they're roaches only come out when it's dark. read more

Hotel itself was nice. Staff were pleasant. No on sight parking. The dark, dingy parking garage is 1/2 block away. It has no elevator and costs $40 per day. My only complaint was the room location. Room 109 Friday and Saturday nights had live entertainment steps from my room. Which meant you couldn't even hear/watch TV until after 10pm. Our patio faced the street entrance and that was noisy as well as smell of weed permeated the air. And our toilet would ghost flush every 5 min with a screeching metal sound from the pipes. I asked to be relocated 3 times and response was that they would see what they can do. Which meant they didn't even try. Plus side was it was convenient. Free trolley stop in front of hotel. Good block to beach. Walking distance to a plethora of restaurants. I would stay again but knowing in advance not to get main floor room. read more

I will say I gave a 4 star review because if you check out and unfortunately have a late flight they will not hold your luggage like some hotels will in south beach Miami. Other than that downfall they were amazing, the housekeeping staff are very friendly, the front desk staff are more than accommodating! I had a light fly on time and they allowed me to check in late and everything was lovely about the room! If you can book a room with a balcony do it!! It's so worth it! The free happy hour is extremely nice, I've stayed all around the country and can't ever recall having that happen and the drinks were definitely not watered down! Worst hotel in the US. Nothing was in order. I booked through internet and it said I had a 100 rate a night but when I get there it was 130.00 a night. I get checked in and they give me my room key and when I went in it was someone else's room. No cleaning, music wide open outside all night even during weekdays so dont plan on getting any rest until after midnight. no shower door, room key only worked for 1day and had to get another, no microwave, baby refrigerator worked off and on which caused it to leak water. The night shift guy is very rude and no one speaks hardly any English. Good luck getting a towel and the room is the size of a car. Bathroom doesn't even have a sink or mirror. You have to shave sitting on the bed. Lastly, internet worked half the time. Literally I have traveled all over the world and this room feels like a room I got in Thailand. Only difference was the power didn't go on and off. But the room in Thailand was only 10.00 a night. read more

5 STAR HOTEL IN MY EYES. This is the best hotel I've ever stayed in and I've been to 21 countries. This hotel is sooooooo worth the price. You have the nicest staff, cutest atmosphere, 2 blocks from the beach, 5 blocks to Lincoln road, 2 pools, and did I mention THE CUTEST HOTEL. The manager was so kind upon our arrival and actually gave us a better room since it was my boyfriends birthday. They also offer a FREE happy hour from 7-8 EVERYDAY. Yes, I said free. Just please tip the bartenders! They have 1 rooftop pool with sofa beds, chairs, and outdoor umbrellas. Free water throughout the whole building as well. They have a ground floor pool in a different building (4 buildings total) and it's heated!!! A lot of young couples stay at this hotel too. So it was nice meeting people all throughout our stay. Be mindful of cockroaches and the smell of mold. We've visited south beach for over a decade and have stayed at countless hotels, including boutique hotels - this was the first time we've had multiple cockroaches. Our first room was dirty - flooded toilet and soiled towels everywhere. Rey moved us to a nicer room. A massive cockroach was in the bathroom. After showing photos, the manager moved us again. Our last night included a cockroach by the a/c. Staff was very nice but better preventative measures need to be taken by the owners. Just watch out if you stay here - avoid if possible. read more

WORST customer Service I have EVER experienced. Find ANY OTHER BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN SOUTH BEACH. Charged for mini bar items that they claim they count before and after each stay (I don't drink alcohol, not sometimes, NEVER, and I've been accused of consuming their mini bar during my one night stay in Miami). Mark Kelly is the hotel manager and he's useless - doesn't return calls or emails, let's his poor staff fend people off on his behalf which is despicable and cowardly. The front desk staff have zero support and they're also clueless. The elevator is also broken so enjoy walking up and down the stairs. In addition, if you arrive early, they will NOT hold your bag, you will be stuck with your luggage (I helped watch another guests stuff since I was already stuck waiting... not the end of the world, but I have never experienced a hotel that can't store your bag for an hour or so if you arrive early.) I can't say a single positive thing about this hotel, it's over priced in the FIRST place.... don't expect the fees to end there. read more

This was hands down the most disappointing stay I've ever had anywhere in my life. I will elaborate below but if you don't have time to read this whole thing my summary is that my suite was filthy, blood stained sheets, dirty room, no power in the bedroom, Carpet in the hallway smelled like urine, no maid service ever came, staff was unresponsive and never helped me when I complained just pushed me off and said wait until the manager comes in but the manager never reached out. The amenities were closed which I should have been notified about prior because I would not have stayed there had I known. The desk manager smiled and stared at me when I complained. They didn't even try to make it better in any way. Didn't offer to come clean up or anything. The beds were rock hard I slept maybe two hours each night. There were stains on the mini fridge that looked like it hadn't been wiped down in years. Even when I made a small request prior to check in, to have a room with a full length mirror, they would not accommodate. This was just a huge joke and a waste of money and it ruined our trip we had planned for a year. I've stayed at cheaper hotels and had a better experience. I guess I learned my lesson. They have done nothing to make up for any of this. Awful property and awful service. Save yourself the trouble do not stay here. Parking was also a nightmare. They also lied and said I never complained but I have text messages to prove I did they just don't want to take any responsibility. Trashy. Take pride in your business. read more

For the price paid for on a weekend, the hotel room was not to standard. I'm commenting as a season traveler and certainly not a place of choice. No drink and coffee maker in the compact room. DO NOT STAY HERE!! Absolutely one of the dirtiest and unsanitary hotels I've ever entered. Upon entering my room, I was greeted with fake eyelashes laying directly on the floor, hair and dirt EVERYWHERE, brown stains on the pillows and the dirtiest and grossest showers I've ever seen. They claim to be a 4 star hotel??? A cheap roadside motel would have higher standards than this place. As soon as we entered the room, myself and my girlfriend were totally disgusted at these unsanitary conditions and we decided to leave. I paid the hotel directly for my 4 night stay upon arrival. I booked the reservation through booking.com and Zach (Assistant Manager) said that he couldn't help me with my refund since my reservation was booked through a third party. I've since contacted Booking.com and they have tried 3 times to reach out to the facility on my behalf with NO success. I left my email and phone number with Zach on 2/5 to have the GM Gabriela call me regarding this matter, which NO ONE has contacted me back. I've since called twice to speak to her without success and sent her an email directly, to which she has not replied. I will disputing these charges with my credit card company, along with contacting the board of health. read more

Only reason why I can't give the 5th star is because their breakfast is terrible..other than that excellent service all around, beautiful clean rooms and it's in a great location! This is my new go-to hotel whenever I visit Miami!! read more
