I have a little bit of a love affair with The National Hotel in Miami Beach. I recently spent a few days in Miami celebrating my birthday, and I had to go back. I have so many memories in this hotel that walking through the doors brings back an entire collection of nights, people, music and experiences. I've been to some incredible galas there, along with parties launching major liquor, wine and cigar brands, and I loved everything about those nights. I loved the people, I loved the music, I loved the energy, and I loved being surrounded by that beautiful old Miami Beach glamour. I actually dug deeper into the history of The National because I wanted to understand why I have such a strong attachment to this particular hotel. It opened in 1939 and was designed by Roy France, one of the architects who helped shape the Miami Beach skyline. What really struck me is that through its renovations, the hotel has continued to preserve so much of what made it special in the first place. The terrazzo floors, chrome fixtures, curved Art Deco details, the original architectural character and that incredibly long pool are still part of the experience. It was fully restored in 2014 and has continued to update its rooms and amenities without wiping away the personality of the original hotel. I can walk into The National and immediately feel like I'm in Miami Beach, not some newly manufactured version of Miami Beach. Even with all the changes that have happened around it, this hotel still has that elegance and sexiness that I remember. The music, the pool, the bar, the Art Deco details, the people coming and going, the whole atmosphere just works for me. I recently walked back into the hotel for my birthday and all of those old memories were still there for me, mixed in with whatever was happening that night. Even with the new and completely reinvented Delano right next door, I keep coming back to The National. I know the Delano has just gone through a massive renovation and reopened in 2026, but personally, I don't love what they've done with it. For me, it changed too much of the feeling that made the Delano special. The National doesn't make me feel that way. I walk through those doors and I still feel the elegance, the music, the energy and the memories, and that's exactly why I keep coming back. read more

Although I didn't stay per se, I came to this hotel last weekend to check out the Jason Perez art exhibit. The hotel lobby retains its well maintained Art Deco charm with ornate ceiling & flooring, and even a retro telephone booth. The pool deck area appears to have been updated with two pools and new cabana daybeds as well as a new 2-story cabana building by the pool. We didn't try food or drinks here, but they hang out by the lobby bar where they had a piano player. The exhibit itself was pretty cool, focused on modern art including some video installations. read more

A lovely boutique hotel on Collins. While the rooms are tiny and the rates are often high even in the off season, it's still a great place to stay. The pool is awesome. The restaurant and bar are really nice, decorated in 1939 fashion. The food is great. It's clearly the best $20 breakfast on South Beach. read more

It's been quite awhile since I've stayed here and overall, the experience was still a positive one. Service from the staff is always amendable, the pools are gorgeous and access to the beach is so convenient. After staying at the Loews, it was also nice to experience the adults only vibe by the pool which was relaxing and peaceful. What I don't think I realized is how old the rooms feel. They are clean and cozy, but it definitely feels "historic." Since there was a rare cold front that moved in while I was staying at the hotel, it was the first time I would have ever even tested to see if the room had heat. With evening temps in the low 50s and drafty older rooms, I was freezing to the point where I couldn't fall asleep. I had the heat set for hours without noticing any changes in room temperature, so I had assumed it was just broken but when I called the front desk they informed me that the rooms don't have heating. The good news is that they did their best to remedy that by sending up a few warm blankets to throw on top of my bed which really helped. Overall, I still find this hotel charming but just be mindful it's a bit dated. However, if you plan on spending most of your time outside of your room and enjoying the amenities I think you'll really enjoy your experience. read more

I had to stop by this hotel for a SOBEWFF 2026 event, and since I arrived early, I took advantage of their beautiful bar, which has an atmosphere reminiscent of old Hollywood. The bartenders' service was basic but friendly; after a while, I ordered an espresso martini for $25, which was clearly overpriced for Miami, but it was tasty and had a good amount of alcohol. My favorite place to staycation in miami! I love getting a day pass and spending the day by the beach and then getting to relax by the pool!! The service is amazing and everyone is so nice and attentive. We ordered the national burger, caesar salad, and guac and chips and everything was delicious! Always 5 stars when we visit. Definitely one of my favorite spots on South Beach. We always rent the suite in the Cabana building which is right by the infinity pool. The views are beautiful, the room is super comfortable, great bed, awesome service and we couldn't ask for more. There are 2 pools on the grounds, infinity and a smaller heated pool. Great location. Just between Ocean Drive and Lincoln Ave. South Beach is right through the back gate. Win win! read more

This is our favorite place in South Beach. The mood and vibes and ambiance is amazing. Katie, one of the managers, went out of her way to tell us about the activities and parties going on this weekend (it's Halloween). The decor is awesome and we love our suite. I believe all rooms have certain themes but still stick to the 1940-50-60's vibes. Definitely a boutique hotel. Or beach guy Elijah was absolutely amazing! Everyone, from front of house check-in, to bartenders, waitstaff, towel people, cleaning staff, absolutely every single person I encountered, was so friendly and pleasant and helpful. It really makes a great impression. We had a room by the pool. A 1 bedroom suite. Really nice and spacious. 2 big closets (one a walk-in), 1 1/2 bathrooms which is sooo nice lol. Huge balcony with nice seating (chairs, couches, tables) and pretty view. Room has a fridge, a pullout couch, 2 tv's. The hotel itself is very pretty. 2 really nice pools, lots of comfy chairs. A pool bar, private beach where you can get towels, loungers and umbrellas all included with your stay. Bikes are available for free. The only downside, and unfortunately it's kind of a big one...the hotel next door is a huge party hotel. Tons of twenty somethings ( mostly guys) yelling and playing loud games, and very loud music thumping from early morning till late night. If you're looking for a nice quiet relaxing getaway, this really isn't the place. Also this could be a plus or a minus, depending, but this hotel doesn't permit children. Probably for the best, considering the shenanigans going on next door. We were here for a wedding weekend and almost everything went really well, as stated. They took great care of us, dinner at the restaurant was fantastic, everything fabulous EXCEPT... we had planned and pre-paid for a breakfast buffet for our wedding guests one morning. The breakfast food itself was very pricey, and they charged us an extra fee so we could have a private area to ourselves. Ok, fair enough. But that ended up working out to about $100 p.p. Now, $100 Pp for breakfast is a pretty damn high price and for that amount of money, I would expect a pretty damn good breakfast. What we got wasn't even worthy of a free Motel 6 breakfast, and I mean that sincerely. It was honestly shocking how terrible it was in every way...quality, selection, taste. Things weren't kept sufficiently heated or chilled as needed. Everything went mostly uneaten. We could've just all gone and ordered the hotels regular breakfast for 1/4 the price and it would've been so much better. I know this because I actually had their breakfast on previous days and it was fine. Or even better, we could've gone straight across the street to the bakery that's there and had an even better breakfast for even less money. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel on many levels. Just not their set priced buffet breakfast for a group. read more

We usually stay at the Standard for the adults-only experience, but we decided to switch it up on our last trip to Miami. We liked the accessible location of the National Hotel and didn't realize how many times we had walked by it without noticing in the past. The pools were awesome, especially the warm one. The drinks were good, but super expensive. I wish they would offer a discount to hotel guests. We had a cabana room, which we would definitely book again. We loved having a patio to enjoy breakfast and snacks on. This place definitely got busier on the weekend. I'm sure we will return again soon!! read more

We had a great weekend at National Hotel. The decor is very eclectic and they have a great outdoor area. However, if you are a sun worshiper, you might not appreciate the fact that most of the pool area and the seating is in the shade. The weekend that we were here, they had the first two rows of loungers reserved but they were barely being used. However, a member of the staff noticed when some other loungers in the sun were available and came back and told us and we moved to them. That was really nice that they remembered and came and told us. Staff here is outstanding! read more

My friend and I had such an amazing experience! Staff was absolutely lovely. Especially Alex greeting us at the front desk upon arrival and checking out. Jeff was also absolutely excellent and accommodating days that we sat on the beach. Same for the pools boys. Customer service was pristine. You truly feel taken care of my only complaint is there was a security guard making my friend and I uncomfortable, following us around, and starting at us while downstairs when we wanted to take photos for our night out... we came out of the elevator and he made us show him our room key and pool pass to prove we were guests. I should've let the front desk know in the moment, but it was late at night and an uncomfortable situation. Other than that, I would love to stay here again. Our stay was filled with maintenance issues/was staying in a cabana room overlooking the pool with balcony/ the rooms could definitely use some love. The two stars is giving the property credit for the friendly front desk staff/and best fish sandwich delivered onto the beach I've ever eaten. However, the next door property is under construction and that affects the vibe at the pool... Also, if you don't wear the hotel branded bracelet they give you they will literally harass you... security etc... serious! Grrr! I was debating whether or not I should leave a review. I had booked my stay here during Thanksgiving via Expedia. It was a non-refundable stay. Upon arrival at the hotel, we quickly learned there was no wifi. Confirmed that info with the front desk by asking about it. On the property, me having Verizon did not allow me to even use my regular service. The only place my regular service would work is the lobby. Couldn't even use my phone by the pool. This made the day rather boring. There is no music by the pool. You can hear the music from the pool at the hotel next door faintly. You can also hear all the construction next door. :/ There was a lot of elderly folks here. Nothing against elderly folks at all, but it made sense since this is a HISTORIC hotel. I didn't realize this when booking. It had 4 stars on Google and 4 on Expedia and Tripadvisor. When we finally were able to check in, the 1st room they put a different room in had a shower that smelled INSANELY like mold. There was also marks around the sink showing whoever cleaned it did not do a very good job. As well as some dirt next to the couch next to the bed. Immediately, we went back to the front desk and told them about the issues with this room. The front desk lady told me that I guess just checked out out of there yesterday and they did not complain about a mold smell. I don't care about what they didn't complain about. It stunk in there. I offered to take her with me to the room and show her the smell. She declined, probably because she didn't want to be proving wrong. At least they offered to a different room. She said she has two rooms available and that we can go look at both and decide which one we want to pick. Ok. We went to the first room and again the shower grout looked black and kind of smell smelled too. We went to the second room and it felt much cleaner, and you could tell the grout had been redone as well. We opted to stay in the second room. The first thing you want to do when you get to a hotel after a day of traveling is to take a shower. I hopped in the shower while my fiancé decided he's going to try and watch TV. It is now about 4:30 PM and there is still no Wi-Fi. His phone was not working in the room either with service and he has AT&T. He quickly realized that the TV remote was also not working. We could not change the volume or the channels. All he could do is simply turn it on and off. I called the front desk after hopping out of the shower and told them that now even the TV remote is not working! We have been there all day since 9 AM and their Wi-Fi still was not back either. I asked when the Wi-Fi would be returning and they said they don't know. That is absolutely ridiculous. Oh and another funny thing, the vanity mirror in our 2nd room was broken and wouldn't stay up so you couldn't use it to look at yourself. The bathroom also is extremely small and the sink area is as well. There's barely any room to put your toiliteries or anything. I told her there's no way I'm going to stay at this property for the next five days. I asked to get a refund and leave. I only stayed at the property checked in for 2.5 hours before deciding it was time to leave. I did not even care whether I would get a refund or not and I just wanted to get out of there. The front desk lady told me that her supervisor that approves refunds was not there and that I would need to email them and wait for a response. Ridiculous but whatever. My son sent a very long-winded email and got my refund. This place is simply unstayable. And by no means is it a 4 star property and experience either. read more

From check in services, our waitress at the restaurant, the staff near the pool etc. The restaurant was really good, great food options at fair prices. The pool was amazing rooms are a bit outdated. The bathroom furniture was literally falling apart. I usually stay at the Loews but the no kids resort called to me. And so I gave it a try. First off the elevators are super small and slow. They're like old nyc apartment elevators. My room was facing construction and I payed for an ocean view so I had to ask for a room change. And of course they had none untill the next day. They have a restaurant which has great food and bar which had drinks not frozen the machine was broken. The first day of my stay was the last day of 5 that they were hosting a rave style party at the pool area. All guests lost their access to the pools unless they wanted to pay an extra $60 to go to the party. I could hear loud music in my room and the windows were vibrating from about 12-11pm. If my whole stay took place during this 5 day event I would've been furious. The bathrooms in the rooms are bad. I get that the rooms are small but it's like the bathrooms are trying to make you mad. The shower has very low pressure as well as a glass wall that only covers half of the length of the shower and the shelving above the sink has a low shelf which prevents you from getting your head close to the faucet without hitting your forehead. The mattresses are worn out, you'd think at this price point you get some luxury or at least comfortability. The rooms were very dusty and housekeeping didn't vacuum most days. Amazing hotel. Best location. Stunning decor. But after being a guest many times in the past 20 years, after this most recent stay in 2024, I will never stay here again. In our most recent stay, we were treated with absolute rudeness, derisiveness, contempt and atrocious service by the pool staff. They were purposefully uncooperative and made a point of denying satisfactory service to our group and treated a number of us with contempt. When the issue was raised to the management, they proved to be as unable or unwilling to rectify the situation as possible,, to the point of complete ineptitude. It's fine. This hotel can do without our regular business and that of our large group in the future and I hope they rethink their approach to guest satisfaction and service. Their lobby bar was very crowded and one of their table center pieces fell over as we were leaving. one of the hotel staffers chases me and my friends out of the door and proceeded to verbally berate me. after to the hotel manager, I emailed the General Manager to express my complaint for being treated so horrifically. he with me the next day and instead of offering any restitution or even baseline empath, he spoke to me with utter disrespect. This is my favorite hotel to stay at in South Beach. It provides the perfect mixture of tranquil oasis and lively fun. Is it cheap to stay here? No. Are the pool/beach drinks and food a great deal? Absolutely not. But if you are looking for that then South Beach is likely not where you should spend your time. The pool area is absolutely lovely and backs straight up to the beach. The location is walking distance to great restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The staff make you feel important and help you relax. In particular the waiter on the beach Erik provided a comfortable experience with a side of wit and humor. The hotel restaurant is above average. The lobby smells amazing. The adults only atmosphere keeps the common areas peaceful. My only complaint is the pools close at 7 pm! We will continue to visit this place! read more

I did a lot of research into hotels in South Beach for a four night getaway. The National Hotel seemed to meet all of our criteria on paper which included walking distance to the major sights, beach front, and reasonably priced. We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel met and exceeded all of our expectations. Via a cyber Monday sale, we had an ocean front queen for under $200 a night (before taxes and resort fees). I feel that the oceanfront room is better than the more expensive cabanas rooms since I rather have the amazing view of the ocean instead of a view of the lap pool. The National Hotel also honored my upper floor request and we were situated on the 9th in a corner room. I had read other reviews complain about the corner rooms since they are located in the stairwell instead of the main hallway. However we had no complaints and enjoyed having the extra windows for being on a corner. The hotel is beautifully restored to its art deco elegance. The on-site food, while expensive, was good. A drink will cost you about $18 after the mandatory gratuity and taxes, so it adds up quickly. The only negative thing about the Hotel is that the adjoining door to the next room is very noisy. Every sneeze, cough, or 6 AM iPhone alarm was heard through the door like our neighbors were in our room with us. But that is really the only complaint we had about the hotel. read more

A year or even two years ago this would've been my most recommended hotel in Miami Beach. However on Saturday, I checked in and checked right back out. Our group paid almost $500 to stay here for one night just to find out the pool, tiki bar, and area with sand and hammocks was closed as well as a restaurant for the duration of our stay. There was not any communication about this. No email no phone call. This reservation was made months in advance so there was ample time. Front desk "upgraded" us to a tiny city view room which made us question how bad the other room would've looked before being upgraded. We had stayed here in 2019 and our room experience was nothing like the one today and frankly much cheaper. We ended up going back down and getting a full refund and leaving the hotel. I didn't know much about this hotel but Victor Valdez was performing tonight at the hotel lobby and I heard good things about his performances at Hotel Greystone except this venue had a better space for the artist. Got lucky to find street parking less than a block away. I can't say much about the hotel or the restaurant because my intention was to watch the artist but the staff was very welcoming and helpful. I got a delicious cocktail from the menu by the name of "Endless Passion" made by Eric, a very friendly bartender from Austria. I didn't get the recipe but it wasn't a sweet drink but more on the spicy side and definitely made with Mezcal. The drink was so good I ended up having three of the same which I usually don't do because I like to try different ones, I just couldn't get enough of it. Again this review is solely based on my experience with the hotel as a venue and the cocktails. read more

Worst hotel I've stayed at. I was unfortunate enough to stay at this hotel when I was in Miami for a wedding a couple of months ago. Let's start with the abysmal housekeeping: after my first night at the hotel, housekeeping came at 8:30AM and woke me up. I didn't have the do not disturb sign out because I did in fact want housekeeping to come by, but assumed that they would show up between 9 and 3 as they are supposed to. The second day, I was trying to get ready for a the wedding, so I asked housekeeping to come at any time before 3PM. I didn't think this would be an issue given the fact that they were banging on my door at 8:30AM the day prior. But I had to call down to the lobby on four separate occasions to get someone to show up, and even then, they came at the last minute and did not have enough time to properly clean the room. The hotel is poorly run in general. For example, i was promised a late checkout (1PM) and then told the morning of that I had to leave by noon. And even when I agreed to that, housekeeping showed up at 11:30. Two of the days I was staying at the hotel, one of the two elevators was broken. I informed someone at the front desk so that they could get started fixing it as it was causing 10+ minute wait times for the elevators. But rather than take any action, he said "thank you for your feedback." Overall: the food is overpriced and not worth it. The hallways are disgusting. The rooms are small and ugly. The pool is not worth all of the other problems and poor management. Stay at any other adults only resort in Miami; this one is not it. read more

I liked this hotel a lot! Great pool, nice room, TINY BATHROOM! I could wash my hair, brush my teeth and shave my leg as all at the same time. There were lots of cool places in the lobby to hangout, not to mention outside. There are 2 pools and cabanas and so many places to sit and relax. It's a nice property! My brother and I decided to hang out for a drink. We were going to order off the menu but we asked the bartender to concoct something. DO NOT DO THAT. The drink was fine. It wasn't mind blowing but each drink (served in a normal sized (12 or 16 Oz) PLASTIC Solo cup was $18!!! More than the drinks on the menu by almost a 1/3! Are you kidding me with that?? Geez. I am absolutely appalled by the price we were charged and that's why I gave four stars. Breakfast was okay. We ordered off the menu because no way were we going to pay $25 for the small buffet set up. You can get a huge buffet in Vegas for that price! Miami is EXPENSIVE!! I'd definitely stay here again!
