We ordered a chicken kabob salad and a steak tip salad and were very disappointed. Barely any tomatoes or olives in salad, dressing was salty, served with a quarter of a potato pocket. Used to be a go-to, but it's gone downhill I've been coming to Rizzo's for years, but ever since the new ownership took over, the place just hasn't been the same. They've served me the wrong order more than once now, and it feels like the attention to detail just isn't there anymore. The roast beef used to be top-tier, but lately it's been hit or miss. Had an absolutely terrible experience here today. I called in my order just after noon and drove to pick it up. I confirmed my order with the staff, it was not yet ready which is fine, and asked if I could pay for it right then, which I did. When my order was ready I confirmed what it was and left. I get home, open my order, and it is wrong. Not really a big deal, this happens. I did not want what they gave me though, and called them to let them know they gave me the wrong order. This is where things got wild. I was told that my order was correct, and that I was wrong. Kind of weird. I then asked for either a refund or for them to send someone to deliver the right order. I was rudely told in a mocking voice that the customer was always right even though this was my fault. She then asked for my address and said they would deliver the right order right away. Fine. An hour goes by and nothing. I call them back and the same lady answers and says she is going to have her manager call me. They had never sent anyone I guess, they just waited to see if I would call them? The manager calls me after like 15 minutes and holy cow he was unhinged. He borderline yells at me, tells me "they have the technology to confirm and verify my order and that I am wrong." OK that is super weird to say, especially when I ordered by phone. I am pretty surprised to learn they illegally record customer conversations, but whatever, I know what I ordered and their illegal voice recording would confirm that they had made a mistake. I am assuming he was just making that up, because when I told him they couldn't record customers without their consent or without their knowledge he became irate and kept yelling "I know everything!!!" He then walked that back and said that his employee of 5 years does not make mistakes. Honestly just a totally absurd experience and not sure if I am being pranked or not given how outlandish the situation is. I will not be returning, and they can deal with my bank when a chargeback is issued. Lastly, the food was also overpriced and the chicken was dried out and stringy. read more

UPDATE: The business called back and accused us of being racist. A couple hours after the original review was written, we received a call back from the restaurant. The same woman who had become very angry before told us that "her coworker" had made a mistake on the pizza and the handling of our complaint, offering to make us new food. Needless to say, it was very late at night by then and they had already shown themselves to be hostile, so naturally we wanted a refund. The woman at first told us this would be impossible, as much as she would like to, because the system wouldn't allow it. That turned out to be a lie, as they eventually did reverse the charge after we firmly explained we would accept nothing less by that point. Two days later they called us and DEMANDED we delete this review, claiming that we were obligated to remove it because they eventually made it right. We refused (though agreed to update) and what followed was frankly unhinged. The woman first essentially tried to guilt trip us by explaining that the business really needed those $50 (as if I don't?) and that it really wasn't that much money compared to their own financial hardships. They then accused us of "trying to destroy their business". We refused to delete, as the post is an honest account of what transpired. The woman became very angry and began accusing us of being racist and hateful towards immigrants despite our only complaint being the bad pizza and worse customer service. I would like to clarify that I have never been to this location in person and therefore have no idea what ethnicity or creed the woman on the other end of the line is. The pizza is ok, but unless you have plenty of time to wait for your order, it isn't worth the aggravation, there are better choices. We ordered 2 pizzas online for pickup, they were fairly basic orders, and the website said pickup orders take 15-25 minutes. It wasn't busy, but it still took around 50 minutes before it was ready. They kept saying things like 'almost ready' and 'another two minutes' , etc. They were saying similar things to other customers who were waiting a long time to pick up orders too. If a business will take a while to have something ready, they should be honest about expected wait times. read more

A friend and I picked up a large Pizza Bianca for dinner. When we got home and opened the box, we were surprised at the size of the pizza, which looked more like a small. The pizza was ice cold and very dry, there was absolutely no garlic sauce on it and the crust was pretty chewy. This apparent francize of Rizzo's various locations is simply a disgrace, actually questionable if reported to the Salem Board of Health should be allowed to remain in business. I question the scholarship of the owner, cooks, receptionists, pursuant to operate such a business. Having read many of the critiques and as a customer noting these in house complaints, I ask, why other than the Roast Beef Sandwiches which take little skill to prepare, therefore superior accessible across this location on Paradise Rd., Salem at Vesuvius Restaurant would a customer return to pay a higher price. Once is a warning, twice perhaps is an exercise in, "everyone deserves a second chance", third is the definition of insanity. I have witnessed a customer given an incorrect unordered product, only to be asked to accept. I arrive, ordered an Italian Sub. My twice questioning when it would be prepared was given, (paraphrase) soon as a reply. The third asking greater than twenty-five minutes, (no other customers waiting; no take-out orders to be prepared visible) initiated my rhetorical question, "Is it coming from Italy." Roast Beef Sandwich ordered was very unchoked to be considered almost raw, therefore insalubrious. The owner informed replied with distain to me for informing him, with intent to be supportive of his business. It is honestly a joke that this place has a license to sell food. Or should I say dog food because thats what I was served. I went in for a roast beef and I guess shame on me for even thinking about going here for a beef. I don't know who is running the ship in there but they respectfully need to fire the whole staff and just start over. I mean ordering there takes 20 minutes because they don't even know their own menu. Absolutely disgusted with the food. I paid $25 for rhino shit between a bun and under cooked french fries. They need a righteous talking to in there because its all around horrible . Careful using the website. I went for the Monday special only to find out that despite it being advertised online, the information and prices listed were not the same as what I was charged. I spoke with the manager and he told me there are two webpages and one is not valid!! It cost $13 more than the advertised prices for a small pizza, small fries and steak sandwich! Revisited for a sit-down experience since the new management took over. I haven't been for a while, to give them a chance to settle in. The place smelled like weird incense when I walked in. They were pumping vaped incense throughout the restaurant. Not sure why they would do that, when the scent of the food is tantalizing enough. I noticed that a customer next to me in the checkout got an order wrong. Another customer was getting pissed at how long it was taking to get his order. It did take an unusually long time for me to get my roast beef sandwich, despite the (maybe five?) people working there and it not being very busy. However, I will say that they seem to put effort into making their food well. The sandwich was fantastic and well presented on the plate. You can also compare the recent pictures with the one I took under the previous management. The portion was more generous. So, if you can be patient and withstand the smell of the incense, the food is actually pretty good and the portions are good too. read more

Haven't been to Rizzo's since the new ownership took over, decided to give it a try last night and was so disappointed. Ordered two roast beef's and the meat was so rare we had to microwave the sandwiches that were already almost inedible due to the bloody meat making the buns soggy. Incomplete delivery order. Driver tried to shake me down for a second tip. Horrible customer service. Ordered a wrap, dinner, and some fries with onion rings. Driver showed up and asked me if I was giving a tip after I already tipped when I placed my order. I pointed that out to him and he was like oh yeah... I should have known then it was about to go downhill. When we opened the bag it was missing the dinner. When I called a girl answered and asked if she could get back to me after she talked to her manager and hung up. I don't expect a call back ever. I will be contesting the charge the moment it posts. The Rizzo's recently went through ownership changes and surprisingly the food seems better now. The fried chicken wings are absolute must, eat them while they are hot. The hostess Sultana made us feel comfortable and the ambience of the restaurant was just as before, clean, calm, and enjoyable. Rizzo will remain one of our town favorites. read more

I am not from the area and happened upon this restaurant as a good take out spot for me and my kids. The woman who served me was so incredibly kind and friendly and offered to wrap my leftovers and hold them in the fridge while I got my nails done nearby.
