This is good solid Mexican food at an inexpensive price. I was amazed at the quality and quantit of food for around $6. The staff is very friendly and serves your food with a smile. I would highly reccommend this location. The grilled chicken had bits of roasted squash that added another layer of flavor. Blah. I work in the neighborhood and eat burritos for the majority of my meals. On occasion I have no choice but to hit Roadrunner. It's not good. Sometimes it's really not good. That said you never know when they are going to pull a pretty solid burrito effort out of left field. It happens, the possiblity is enough to keep me going through on occassion, but not often. Usually the burrito is kind of gross but edible. The first bite might be ok but you already know you're doing a bad thing. Somehow 10 minutes later the burrito is gone. That's when the hurting starts...... I warn you, don't be fooled by that first bite or the convenience of it all. Take 15 minutes and drive to Puentez in San Rafael. Get the black beans. 3.5 stars. Very nice staff that remembers what we like or don't like and aren't bashful about making recommendations if they think we might want something different. The general bland section of the menu is offered up the way the local Marinites clad in Pilates gear will most likely eat. Make sure to ask for at least medium spice! You can eat outside along the Bon Air walkway although they don't truly have their own outdoor dining. Breakfast burrito was so greasy/oily & they got my order wrong. First time there & I probably won't return.

I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 stars. Chose 3 stars due to the fact that they serve breakfast till 5PM. The first time I went, I tried one of their chicken burritos. I was really disappointed because it was so dry, chicken didn't have much taste to it, and there was way too much rice (I usually like rice!). Then I saw that they have a breakfast quesadilla. Not very many ways you can get a breakfast quesadilla wrong, so I tried it out. This was very yummy and had the right portion of everything (eggs, bacon, cheese, salsa, etc) and it was less than $6 for a huge portion! I didn't have the highest expectations when I saw this in the shopping center soon after moving into the neighborhood, I was hoping for a a Chipotle or Rubios equivalent- not a Rick Bayless eatery. Ordered the chips and salsa and 2 tacos. I was handed a pre sealed plastic bag of chips and was pointed to the salsa. I was starving and opened the chips to eat while I waited for the tacos, even hungry I ate 2 and threw the rest in trash as they were very stale.The person behind the counter saw this but didn't seem surprised. The tacos didn't fare much better. The steak in the taco tasted more like a very overlooked roast. The fish taco was a very mild white fish which had no flavor and had so much liquid the shell didn't hold up for 2 bites. read more

This place is really very average. There isn't a lot of pizzaz in the food - it is bland and boring. And honestly, you can find so many places like this. If they kicked it up a notch, made it more unique, had better flavor, and do different kinds of meat - like shredded chicken for instance it would be much better. I'm personally a big fan of this place, although at least half of that affinity is due to the fact that the employees all laugh at my jokes that aren't even funny. The people really couldn't be nicer. The burritos are good to standard. Generally safe, although sometimes I enjoy some risk in a burrito. Definitely above what I would call the wrap-trying-to-be-a-burrito status, but every once in a while (maybe once every two weeks), you get a burrito full of sketchy, fatty meat. If you take a bite and get a bad piece, just throw it away - you won't recoup your loss. Trust me. I generally get the chicken stuffo or the mediano shrimp. Both are great choices. Their black beans are some of the best around (although nothing compared to Puentez in San Raf, but thats saying a lot). One thing that probably gets them an extra star is the fact that they have one of the biggest burritos I have ever seen called the roadblock. Probably an 8 out of 10. read more

The service is great -- the man who is usually working is friendly and personable. The food, not so much. I don't mind inauthentic "Mexican" food; I love Tex Mex and other localized (read: interesting) interpretations of real Mexican cuisine, because good food is good food, authentic or not. However, this paled in comparison to both authentic Mexican and Tex Mex. The rice, beans and chicken in my burrito had little flavor to them, and although it wasn't terrible, it wasn't enjoyable. The hot salsa was good, but not hot in the least. (While I do have an unnaturally high tolerance for spice, I don't think anyone, sensitive or not, could have called it hot.) I realize that I'm spoiled, living a stone's throw from the Mission, but I've had better food at Mad Mex than I had here. I been here about 4 times and every time has been good. However, I always order the same thing-a simple veggie burrito-pinto beans, rice, cheese, sour cream and salsa. It is sooo good, and you would think it should be because it's so simple, but some places will manage to screw up a simple veggie burrito and make it gross. Here the ingredients tasted fresh and they used that yummy crema. The chips come in a sealed bag which I thought seemed weird and generic but they were actually really good and tasted freshly made. The first time we went my husband was asking all of his neurotic annoying food questions to the man taking our order. I ordered a catered breakfast from them for an office meeting. Someone else had asked them to provide breakfast for the same meeting a couple weeks prior and I enjoyed it. I was happy to order from them again. They were great. I didn't know if my 8:15am pickup would be too early but they were right on time. I wasn't planning on buying a breakfast burrito for our 35 person meeting. I was thinking I would have to cut all the burritos in half to serve but Road Runner did it for me! Great food! I love their refried beans, in northern CA, it is often hard to come by beans that aren't closely related to Rosarita out of a can or just having plain pinto beans. I ordered a Bean and rice burrito with Guacamole and lettuce, not too great but I am very picky nonetheless. Not to mention their salsa bar having really really good pico and something that seems like Verde salsa. Usually when you go to a Mexican restaurant, you often get their own surprise salsa concoction. While that is great and all, I personally prefer less surprises when it comes to salsa, as there are certain ingredients I am intolerant to in some salsas. I think the guy working at the register was the owner, he was super friendly and helpful. I took his advise and got the steak quesadilla, it was a good choice. The burritos are alright. The things that really pisses me off about this place is that they ALWAYS try and sneak some extra charge in while ringing you up. It's never expensive, but it's irritating. The last time I went there, he asked me if I wanted my burrito mild or spicy. I said spicy and he charged me 50 cents for jalapenos (which, by the way, there were so many I could barely eat it.I guess I got my money's worth). Yes I get it, it's only 50 cents but the point is it's sneaky as hell and dishonest. It really bugged me...so much so that I probably won't go back. Absolutely the worst place to get a burrito or even decent Mexican food! They are so cheap its laughable. They charge for sour cream and guacamole. They dont give free chips with your order either. They charge if you take more than 2 salsas. Their brochure is smaller than your average one. The middle aged male cashier doesn't inform you if there are additional charges to your order unless you ask. If you do ask, he becomes rude. The food is such poor quality for the prices they command is ridiculous! The avocado in their guacamole is non- existent. I wasn't sure what it was. They put more rice and beans than meat. I eat here regularly because I work nearby and sometimes I need a change of pace from Subway and Mollie Stones to-go. It is about the most mediocre Mexican food I've ever had. The meat is consistently overcooked, gristly, and chewy. The place always smells like they aren't using their cooking hoods so you leave there smelling like fried meat even after 5 minutes. I wish so much that it was better. I think that's why I keep going back. But once again I'm disappointed. If you're walking and need Mexican then I guess you're stuck unless you want to continue to the Mexican place in Marin Country Mart (no gem, but at least better). Unbelievably bad service!!!! I had an evening meeting and swung by Bon Air to get Burritos for my family so that we could have a quick and easy dinner. When I arrived home, it appeared I was given someone else's order? Not a single item in the bag was even close to what I ordered. (2 steak burritos no salsa, 2 chicken and 1 Thai chicken burritos turned in to 3 Chic Teriyaki, 1 jumbo and 1 kids burrito?????). I immediately called the restaurant and told the gentleman (who remembered me) of my predicament. He told me to bring the burritos back. I said due to location (20 minutes away) and time constraints (I had a meeting), I would be unable but I wanted a credit for my purchase. I retained my itemized receipt and saved the wrappings for the inaccurate items (which listed the contents). I had to throw out some of the burritos (inedible) and some had to be eaten begrudgingly by hungry family members without other dinner options. The clerk told me to come back the next day. I wanted to come back with my proof during the day when it was most convenient to me. I was told that would not be possible and that I must come after 5pm. He even made me pin down the exact time of my arrival. I called the next day (about 1/2 hour before my promised arrival time) to say I would not be able to make it but still wanted my credit. The clerk demanded that I come...not so I can get my credit, but so that I can pick up my corrected burrito order. I informed him that I did not want the burritos to eat at that point but demanded either a credit to my charge or, at the very least, a comparable credit to dine there another time. HE REFUSED!! He also demanded I bring the old burritos from the day before back. I suspect he wanted to give us new food so the issue of cash would go unnoticed by the management. 1/2 hour later, he still didn't get it! I've never worked so hard for $30 in my life! He would not let me talk to the owner or the manager and kept calling me back. All I can say in advice if you must go here,check your order carefully!! read more

Ate here a few years back and didn't enjoy the experience. Thought that it may have improved. My mistake. This place is horrible. They have an Aztec and a Cabo burrito. The Aztec has no cabbage. That's the only difference. Chips cost an extra $0.75 and come in a pre-wrapped plastic bag. I ordered a burrito in a bowl with no cheese and spicy salsa, "for here". I asked if there were free refills on the soda (which cost $2.00) - he started to say "no", then said he would give me refills if I asked. I received all the ingredients of a burrito, including cheese, in a massive styrofoam bowl. I went up for my free refill, he begrudgingly filled it up half way. Thanks bud. I usually bring lunch to work because of fear of the unknown in another city other than my hood of SF.....trust me on this, it's pretty freaking scary. I did although like how they didn't charge extra for a whole wheat tortilla. On the other hand, being charged for cilantro, jalapenos, guacamole, sour cream, etc. more than makes up for that. Road Runner Burrito is not your typical burrito place. They differentiate themselves by having 'specialty' burritos, such as teriyaki chicken and bbq chicken burritos, (sauces and all).
