Excellent service and good food. Right on the main drag in Duck. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the main restaurant of Tomato pie with greens, salad and the Vegan Thai entree. All 3 were delicious and perfect servings. Everything was so good, we returned to enjoy the back bar for Mark's Bingo. They have a really cool outdoor bar that has a great seating set up and a full bar. Limited menu outback but you can order from the regular restaurant menu too. Came here to enjoy Roadside's outdoor area for some music and good vibes when Coastal Cravings was too packed for our liking. It's a little off the beaten path which meant we had the place mostly to ourselves. Similar to Coastal Cravings, this spot has ample outdoor space, games, hula hoops and more for kids to run around with and enjoy. It also has a full bar with a focus on beer, cider and hard seltzer options. Service is swift and prices are decent. I will say that seating options here are a little less comfortable than what you find at Coastal Cravings. Out of every outdoor spot we visited on our trip here this was the place that I got bit up the most by bugs, so make sure you pack your bug spray if you're planning to spend time here. read more

First time here, found it on a whim since most other places were not accepting reservations. Fun bar and music in the back wish we could have stayed for but we were leaving the next day early. This is a very eclectic little place with lots of locals. The menu is small but has a variety of choices. We sat with a view of the kit he and it was good to see how well their system worked and they worked together. The little neck clams were one of the best I've had and bring from New England I've had lots. The jambalaya was delicious and had a good amount of seafood in it. I was not to thrilled with the beef short ribs. They were very tender and fall apart. I just was thrilled with the fatty ness of them. Salads were all delicious and fresh. Definitely would come back. Roadside Bar & Grill has been a favorite for many years, so we were a little worried when we found out it had been sold. Well, no need to worry. It's even better than before! The outside looks great and the inside paint job makes it brighter without losing the original charm. The food is some of the best you will have on the Outer Banks. I had shrimp and pine nuts over fresh linguine and the hubs had the duck. Both were exceptional. Finished with the coconut cheesecake. Perfect ending. The service is as great as the food. Stopped by this place for dinner in Duck. When we walked in our family was looked at as if we walked in to an event we were not invited to by the "hostess". She seemed immediately bothered that we walked in and proceeded to rush around and tell us reasons that we should leave. She first says "we are short staffed" and then looking at my two kids and winking she says "we don't have a kids menu"...needless to say we went down the road to another place to spend our $$ on food and it was excellent. read more

Overall **** A very solid 3.83 weighted Stars in my book. Roadside has a real dive bar feel to it and I mean that in a good way as it is very comfortable and casual. The food was very good and the service made our lunch an excellent experience and left us wishing we had found the place sooner in our vacation so we had time to come back. Setting **** There is an abundance of outside seating sheltered from the road but not necessarily from the sun. The day we visited it was 95 degrees with a blazing sun so we chose to sit inside where it was darker and much cooler. The inside has an odd layout with a downstairs and an upstairs with a "bar". They were fairly busy at 12:30pm and the only seats available inside for our party of seven. were one booth and seats at the "bar". The "bar" itself is barely a bar as it only seats six and is essentially part of the kitchen. I need to mention that you can see into the separate prep kitchen and it looked absolutely spotless. *We walked there so I didn't figure out the parking situation. Service ***** The adults sat at the bar and kids at the table so we had to have separate checks which I felt was odd but so be it. I can't necessarily comment on the server but our bartender, Kim, was absolutely phenomenal. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, chatty and even though she claims to be some form of vegan or some other religion (jk) she was still able to offer up suggestions with ease. The cook is also right there as well and he was funny and engaging offering his take as we ordered. If we didn't have my 80 year mother in law with us we could have easily spent the rest of the afternoon with these two and probably never checked the time. Food **** Overall the food was excellent but there are some oddities you should be aware of, especially if you have kids. Our Buddhist bartender, Kim, talked me into the BLT. I have had and made a lot of BLT's in my life but this one was memorable. Lots of bacon which I thought at first was a bit underdone but turned out to be perfect. Thick, chewy toast, ripe tomatoes with a terrific garlic mayo on the side. It came with a side of delicious pasta salad as well but more on that later. Others in my party had salads and fish tacos which were all described as excellent. My son ordered the burger which he said was great but here is where things go a little strange. They don't have a fryer so no French Fries are served with the burger, instead you get the aforementioned pasta salad. Even I think that is bizarre on so many levels and they could easily offer up potato chips with a burger. If you have Chicken Tender, French Fry loving kids you are going to have an issue so be prepared. Value *** As mentioned earlier we had two separate bills but it broke down like this; the higher end mixed drinks were $14 (high), top shelf G&T $10 (low), Caesar Salads with Grilled Chicken $18 (average), BLT $16 (high), burger $15 (average). So not a fantastic deal especially when you consider the no fries issue with the burger but within reason. read more

Our server was Gracie and she was very attentive coming back several times to check on us. My hubs ordered a BLT and it came with macaroni salad that had a great flavor. I ordered the Roadside Salad and it was delicious. Just an FYI the apples and oranges come on the rim of the plate not in the salad itself. November 25, 2023 We have been going to the roadside grill for many years when in OBX and loved it . However on this trip there was a sign outside "cooks wanted" which kinda scared us since our last visit was iffy but we chalked it up to a one off. The atmosphere was great a bit kitschy and cool with the sea glass. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. When sitting at the small bar (seats 6) you get to watch the cooks at work. The cooks were not the usual ones we were used to seeing and their demeanor did not make me comfortable. I will start by saying the food portions were way too large. The clam chowder had lots of fresh clams but the broth was too thick and a bit pasty. My husband had Oyster stew for an app and loved it. His main meal was the 14 oz rib eye (smallest size you could get). He did not like it and said it was extremely tough. I had the Ham shank and it was ok but I have had better for $38. The broccoli was perfectly cooked but the garlic mashed potatoes were too dense and not enough butter and seasoning. Bottom line is we will limit our visits to lunch until they work out their issues. And again smaller portions please. America is fat enough. read more

Not good. Food was nothing special and tasted bland. Service between the waitstaff and cooks was slow and disjointed. The food was sitting in the kitchen for so long on a few occasions that the cooks delivered the food. It took a while for our food to come out (we ordered the prime rib sandwich and a pound of steamed shrimp with clam chowder). The shrimp wasn't deveined but we were so hungry, we didn't even care about the poop. The prime rib sandwich tasted like cafeteria food. The clam chowder was the best thing we had but even that wasn't that good. Overall the food was not worth the trip especially for how much it cost. Besides that it's important to note that the bathrooms are not divided by stalls but by shower curtains...close proximity and not super secure or sanitary. Seriously... pick one and do it well. We came here for dinner on our way back from a day in Corolla and stopped based on the reviews we saw and the pictures of the menu. Put our name in and went to the Back Bar for drinks with my family (which is the only reason this place is getting 2 stars). Drinks were good, music was the vibe we were looking for and the atmosphere was chill and great for the kids to let loose. Unfortunately that is where the good times ended. We sat down at the table and looked at our menus and were shocked to say the least. The menu did not match what we had seen in the reviews. Yeah, I should have read them all... but all of the 5-star reviews mentioned the LUNCH menu, not this "high-end" dinner menu. This menu is not only not good for kids, but the two kids options we were present with were bland and boring. The mains were not any better. They were mediocre at best, and I swear I could have built a brick house with the mashed potatoes they served us. My meal was the breaded tile fish, which was seasoned well, but the rice was plain white rice served cold and dry. The asparagus was as limp and cold, and the Cajun cream sauce was only meh. The atmosphere inside and out reflects the best type of rowdy roadside restaurant that you know makes a mean burger and locals rave about, but now feels like a schizophrenic facade covering a hidden personality masquerading as fine dining. Stick with what you do well and quit trying to cater to the tennis whites crowd. DRINKS - not great , sent back one suffered through others FOOD - - soo disappointing. examples: - the last tine we are there the Halibut was presented in an excellent manner over rice or whatever with a glaze of sorts and the asparagus. NOW. Halibut is served with a large ball of plain rice and asparagus but no stacking no delicious glaze nor presentation - the "warm" mushroom salad used to be served warm and delicious. NOW it's a spring salad vinaigrette with warm flavorless mushrooms dumped on top - the tuna steak , to have been medium rare was med well and flavorless SERVICE - we were served one of the not good mushrooms salads without mushrooms.
