SO GOOD. We were so hungry I forgot to take a picture so I am sorry. I got the Pad Pak Sri Kow with pork and he got the Teriyaki Grilled Beef Skewers and we split both. So freaking good. The sauce was really good on the stir fry . I got a 2 on the spicy scale at the recommendation of the server but I could've used a little more spicy. Still amazing. The skewers came with fried rice and a couple sauces. There was some kind of jalapeno sauce that I dipped everything in and it was totally amazing. I will be back asap. read more

I've been to Roat Osha three times now and loved every trip. Funny story... something about my appearance must lead people to assume I would not like or be able to handle spicy/hot food. The first time we went I ordered the Spicy Curry with White Ginger, which had, I believe, a level 3 (out of 5) spiciness (is that a word?) rating and said it could not be ordered mild. The server looked at me and said, "Are you sure? It's pretty hot." I told him yep, I could handle it. When the food came out he checked on me at least three times, I think he thought my head might burst into flames. It was spicy, but deliciously so... I like my food hot and most restaurants in MN tend to go too easy on us. My boyfriend, who'd ordered something else, declared my entree superior, so the next trip we got the same thing and shared. Server once again asked if we were SURE we wanted the spicy dish, ha! Last weekend after a few hours at the MIA we stopped in again. First time eating inside. Service was a tad slow but we were there in between lunch and dinner and I think there may have been only one server on the floor, so it was ok. We ordered the Sriracha Fried Rice with chicken and we both loved it. Spice level 3, I could have gone a little hotter but it had a good kick. Great flavor and combination of ingredients overall. I have been waiting to go here for a long time because I can't seem to find good Thai in Minneapolis. It's not really four stars but more like a 3.5 Loved the fried and fresh spring rolls. The seabreeze salad was good but lack a little flavor. It needed a dressing of some sort. My favorite was the MEE KAH TEEH. We had a bunch of other dishes but none as good as that. read more

The ambience of the restaurant is nice.Located in Uptown area.Also it has public parking space nearby so, parking is not much of a problem.The neighborhood area is really great to place to wander. It was quite empty when we went there. Wasn't that late as well. Staff was quite friendly. The table and chairs were a bit wobbly. The service we felt was bit slow. But other than those two things no complaints. The place was extremely clean. The decor was nice and food was excellent. Chicken satay was delicious. Though my colleagues felt it was bit overcooked I lived it. Then there was Chicken Sriracha Fried rice. It was one of the best fried rice I have had in Minneapolis. Sub-par food and I won't forget to mention the RODENT!! I'm an avid Thai food lover, it's my favorite cuisine. But this place, was at best sub-par. I ordered the Tom Kah soup and for $9 it was awful. My boyfriend ordered a vodka cranberry and they charged him .75cents for the cranberry. Anyways the night went on, I was already disappointed in the food and then I look over at the bar when I see a rodent, running around the restaurant. I immediately told the waitress and she said "oh yeah, we know...someone mustve let him in because it's cold outside." Why would you let people eat there if you know there is a rat. So we split the tab at my table with my brother and his girlfriend and they only took off 15% of my tab, and did nothing for my brothers tab. Shameful. Will never be eating there again. read more

The atmosphere is great! I love the big bar and Asian art. There seems to be a lot of regulars at the bar and everyone is really friendly. Roat Osha has a great drink selection - lots of beers, wine and cocktails. The service has always been pleasant! The food is good! Having been twice with my boyfriend we have been able to try 3 entrees and the Pad Thai. We have no complaints! Hits the spot when we want something spicy. Docking one star because when sitting at the bar on a Saturday night I noticed they were out of a decent number of staple items. They were not able make over half the cocktails on their menu. The regular menu is 6 puffs for $6.35, so more expensive at HH! I ordered the chicken satay which was good, but the Thai dumplings fell very flat. 99% sure they were microwaved from the frozen food section. I ate at roat osha today and it was my first time there. I ordered vegan pad Thai and some drinks. Halfway through eating my pad Thai I noticed a piece of BEEF in it. I have been vegan for 10 years and vegetarian for 14. I was absolutely disgusted. The server was wonderful and it was clearly not her fault. Came here tonight for the first time. Food was HELLA good, service was fast, staff were super friendly, and the wait time for food was hardly anything at all. It's a tad pricey, but it was worth it. Food/Drink: The food has gone downhill. Rice Noodle with Red Curry and Sriracha Fried Rice were ordered, but only one of the dishes was worth eating (hint hint, the noodles), but the curry has lost any and all flavor. Had a beer and they have a decent selection overall for the future. More bar then thai right now. Ambiance: Updating based on the change of location. Their original location was awesome and I could overlook a lot for that. However, in this location, it's just like any other thai joint on the block. Sad, but true. I'm pretty sure there was little choice and a business decision behind it, but I'm definitely not feeling the new location or setup. Service: And this pushed me over the edge. We had straight up bad service on a Friday night. We were seated in the bar area which wasn't busy. We weren't checked in on and every time the bartender came over to check on us, it felt like an inconvenience. The bigger problem is sitting in the bar area, you look over into the bar and see 3-4 bartenders talking to each other and you're trying to make eye contact to get them over. At this point, we're starting to hate life and want to get out of here which I get the feeling they wanted us out too. Overall: I am sad to say, not worth the pain and they really had something going being a upscale thai joint to take a date. Very nice place, great ambience and terrific food. We came here on a Saturday evening, with some friends who had recommended this place to us. 'Thai food at its best', was the exact phrase he used to refer this place, and I had to try it out. I thad tried to get here earlier, but they had just moved to a different place, and when I tried searching it, they were under renovation. Which when I look at now, looks like a job well done. The ambience is fantastic, the vibes of this place is really good. We parked in the parking structure adjacent to the restaurant, which is a paid parking option, but is the closest. We were greeted by a pleasant server who got us a corner booth with view. We quickly ordered couple of dishes which were highly recommended by our friends. Papaya Salad was one of them, which really turned out to be good. The peanut sauce in the blend provided a sweet flavor and the salad itself was filled with a lot of vegetables. Great choice for an appetizer. We also tried the spring rolls and chicken satay which were yummy as well. I tried the green curry, my wife tried the Massaman curry (which was special on the night) and friends had the Chicken Fried rice with Basil and Pineapple fried rice. The food was presentable which completed the upscale feel of this place. The portion size was really good and too filing. The service was good and the food arrived quicker than we thought, probably just the hunger which made us think it was longer. Every single dish was tasty and we really couldn't stop licking our fingers once we finished our Mango Sticky rice desert. The coconut milk soaked rice with mango pieces on top of it, is by far the best I have ever tried anywhere. I love this desert as it reminds me of my hometown Konkan back in India, where a lot of curries and deserts are made out of coconut milk. That is another reason Thai food is one of my favorites and this place is now added to my GO TO list along with Coconut Thai in Edina and Thai Curry House in Burnsville. Would love to come down here for getting Thai Tea next time, as that is another recommendation from our friends, who loved it when they were here; and they are from Thailand, so I cannot question that. read more

I'm so sad to give this place such a bad review as we used to love it at the old location. But this was really one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time, both for service and food quality. I will say that our server was very, very nice but nice does not mean a job well done. I should have know when I asked what type a specific beer was and his answer was, "well I'm only 20 so I don't know." Huh?? Aren't you supposed to at least have an idea of the menu? After further questioning he did then go ask for me, but then it took ten minutes for him to tell me the beer I asked for was out and another ten for the second option to show up. 30 minutes from when I first sat down to when I finally had a beer. It was super slow, maybe only five other tables filled and half the time our server was nowhere to be seen. To make a list of the rest of the night: We never got the appetizers we ordered. My son's food was spiced at the wrong level and had to be sent back. My food was horribly salty. If we hadn't already sent back one dish I would have sent that back as well. We asked for noodle substitutions and were never told we would be charged 2.50 extra to sub the noodles for both dishes. We were checked on about a minute after our food arrived (he did ask about our food and drinks) and then after our son got his correctly spiced dish, our server never returned. After we were done eating we sat waiting in a near empty restaurant for over 20 minutes before my husband finally went and asked the bartender for to go boxes and our check. Usually I'm very forgiving with a restaurant, but this was s special dinner for our son's birthday. He was hoping for mango sticky rice for dessert but since our server never even bothered to check on us or see if we needed anything else, he missed out. My son never got his spring rolls either. This was my first visit to this new location and I have to admit, I have missed the food and the servers. At their old location further north on Hennepin Avenue, I was probably in there 2 or 3 times per month. Now that they are in Calhoun Square, the reason I have not been in has simply been because access is so difficult. Parking options are either in the somewhat expensive attached ramp or at very limited meters on the street that are also expensive (the metered cost changes depending on time of day because they are in a popular location). Paying for parking is a huge turn-off for me and there is really no avoiding that at this new location. Couple that with a bizarre entrance that is on the backside of the Calhoun Square building with no entry from within the building where all of the shops and other restaurants are and it feels like you have to walk into an alley just to find the front door to this place. Once in, much of the decor was rescued from the previous location and brought in here but the look is much more open, airy and modern with exposed ceiling ducts and a lighter wood appearance throughout. The result is more hipster appealing which fits its uptown location. The menu has remained largely the same with a few new items added but the prices have gone up by about $2.00/item which I have to guess is to help cover the expense of this lease. Uptown and Calhoun Square real estate can't be cheap. Overall, I was happy to settle in and be served by staff that I have not seen in months and the food hit the mark just like it always used to. But the parking cost and the access to this place as well as the increased cost to eat here is a real mood killer. I will definitely go back but I suspect that my visits will now be infrequent. read more

We came in about a month ago. It was late night and Tum Rup Thai had closed so we were sent over here. The poor service began as soon as we entered the door. Mind you we were only a party of three. We waited for 10+ minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and then get seated. When we finally did get seated it took another 15 minutes for a server to come over, only because we flagged someone down. When were finally able to place our order, the server came back 15 minutes later saying he lost our order and didn't put it in. So he retook our order and then another 30 minutes later we got our order. In the meantime, we had to flag our server down each time we wanted something including water. Half the time he never brought out what was asked. I could have asked for a manager but honestly, we just wanted to get out. We had had enough. The food is still pretty damn good to me and when on happy hour it's an okay price although they keep shutting down the kitchen early which is pretty annoying. I ordered the Tom kha soup with beef, delivery. It arrived and was this pale pink/mauve color. I order this soup from Thai restaurants all the time, it's never come grey-pink before. The color made it very unappetizing, It honestly looked like the beef was dyed and the coloring came from that. But it wasn't just the color, It was really salty and had nothing else going on. No spice at all, no herbaceous flavors like it should, no acidity. Just salty and the beef tasted very strange, like it was artificially flavored and dyed. I'm really sad that I am posting a review of 2 stars, but after yesterday, it needs to be done. First off, the old location had 1,000,000x better atmosphere. I loved the patio, the restaurant felt cozy and active. The food was always great and one of my fav. places to eat, and it was always busy. Then the move to Calhoun Square happened and Roat Osha lost it's mojo. This makes me really sad. The first visit was on Fri, Nov 25th at 9 pm. The place was dead and just felt sad.The old decor was moved over, but it lacked that same feeling it once did. The layout is the same as Chang Mai Thai but it could have used a reconfiguration. The bar on one side and the seats on the other just don't feel cohesive. I realize the other location had a similar layout but it just had a better flow to it - probably because of the patio being there and also windows. We stayed for an appetizer and a drink and moved on. My 2nd visit was a week night. Again, dead. I ordered dinner this time - my usual. My veggies were under-cooked and the sauce had a weird jelly consistency. The meat was done fine though as was my app. My server spent most of her time either chatting the host or I don't know what. They don't give out the funky fortune cookies apparently anymore. And the food prices have definitely increased - I know because I always order the same thing - close to $40 for just myself now with tip and a drink? I totally regretted not just getting Chinese food take out for $13 instead. I'm going to give Roat Osha 1 more try on a weekend. If we so much as get to the door and it's dead, we are going somewhere else. Again, I'm really not feeling good about having to write a poor review, but it's just not the same anymore. read more

My friends and I recently went to Roat Osha to celebrate another friends birthday. It seemed like an okay place, though the staff almost seemed annoyed that they had to help you. Everything seemed ok, the food was kind of meh (Pad Thai at Ginger Hop is by far superior) and the service was mediocre. We had asked our waiter about splitting up our check, as we had a party of about 12-13 of us, most of whom were couples. He assured us we would be able to do that. However, when we finally got the bill, it was grouped up into one big lump. The waiter told us this was because his manager wouldn't let him split it up. We spoke to the manager about it, as we thought this was absurd. He must have been called "The Shield" in college, because he proceeded to deflect the blame onto everyone else but himself. First he told us how his staff should've never made reservations for such a large party on a weekend (What the hell?), then he acted like it was our fault for not knowing their policies a head of time, then he proceeded to make Minnesota nice like passive aggressive jabs at the waiter about even telling us this. While we had a good time, I will not be going there again, purely on the principle of not contributing to this manager's paycheck. Also, make sure to not take a group of 6 or more there, as they apparently don't want your money. read more

I've never seen a restaurant that has such bad wait service. We were a party of five, and had to ask for silverware, our waters to be refilled twice, with a wait for over 30 minutes for our entrees even after the appetizers were there. And to top it off, another 20 minutes for the waiter to pick up the cards to pay for the meal. I mean, are you kidding me? As for the food, it seem like a hit or miss. The calamari for appetizers were okay, my dish the walleye in spicy cream green curry sauce, was pretty delicious but a little on the salty side. There are, at last count, approximately 5,362 Thai restaurants vying for our business in the Twin Cities. Based on my recent visit, Roat Osha shouldn't get any of it. Our food was bland, uninspiring, and underwhelmingly portioned for the price. Basically, half of the amount served at ANY Thai restaurant, with half of the flavor. I'm not someone who bases his quality assessments on a volume-to-price ratio, by any means. But what Roat Osha does not appear to understand is that a reduction of mass relative to similar offerings needs to reflect a significant improvement in quality. My noodle dish was served with a sweet, somewhat generic sauce that seemed to have been watered down, and the noodles were all stuck together in a clump. I had to muck with the dish for several minutes before I could take a bite, only to find that the abnormally cheap disposable chopsticks were barely up to the task. The menu does provide a helpful spicing guide (1 - 5 peppers, with 5 being "Thai Spicy"). Although I have an excellent tolerance for heat, I have learned that "Thai Spicy" at most places is uncomfortable. Given this, I went for a 4 rating, which turned out to only maybe be a 3. No tableside condiments for fine tuning, sadly. Even more sadly, this was proudly listed as something of a signature dish... My girlfriend and I ended up eating here because there was parking, so basically at random. I mention this because it meant that we were unaware of their normal hours of operation. As a grizzled veteran of the restaurant industry, I have a personal aversion to dining near closing time that borders on the phobic. I know how the staff can feel at the end of a long day, and the resigned hatred that a last-minute table can inspire. APPARENTLY, we arrived during this danger zone, because about half way through our meal, the staff turned on all the lights in the place and started cleaning up (this with roughly 6 tables still eating). The point was made more explicit when someone -- perhaps the FOH manager? -- stared daggers at me. Immediately afterward, our otherwise adequate server planted the bill on the table, without asking if we wanted anything else (like, you know, dessert). If you have ever wondered what a Thai restaurant might be like in an airport setting (outrageous pricing, dumb food, brusque service), I would suggest Roat Osha. We visited Roat Osha with a group of six friends (plus a kiddo) but none of us are likely to return. When the first of our party arrived our table was ready to go, which was nice, but she was only left with a single menu. As more of us arrived our waiter (Jake, I think, he was a nice guy) was quick to get the initial drink orders in, but no more menus were ever offered. Playing pass-the-menu when all of us were seated had gotten old, so I just got up and grabbed a few more from the host counter myself. As drinks arrived a couple waters had to be sent back because they had schmutz floating in them or glasses were visibly filthy. When the appetizers (which were tasty) arrived we had to grab a couple small plates and silverware rolls from an empty table to replace the ones at our table which had crusted-on food and other ick. Our food arrived soon enough after ordering it. I loved my Pad Prig Bai Horapa (its heat fit the dish well) but my wife's Massamun Curry, which is intended to be rich and mild, came out of the kitchen watery and way too spicy. In terms of atmosphere the restaurant was nice enough when we arrived, but the group of folks next to us reminded us that White Girl Wasted is still a thing. I won't blame the restaurant for guests' behavior, but it took away from our experience. We were also treated to an unintentional light show; apparently when the fitness club upstairs has a high-impact class the restaurant's overhead lights start flickering and flashing. This space has been in use long enough that this shouldn't have been a problem, so it was another negative during a so-so experience. Overall our server was great and a couple of the dishes were outstanding; but with inconsistent atmosphere, filthy place settings, and way-too-hot mild curries there are too many other Thai places in MSP to bother giving Roat Osha another go. read more

I felt that the staff was very rushed. The management was confused as well as confusing their employees. Normally a waiter or waitress is assigned a section to take care of, they are not spread all over the restaurant. For that level of a restaurant, the management or workers should not be wearing hats out in the dining area. I ordered coconut shrimp, which I've had at many different places, and was not satisfied with the shrimp given me. Couldn't taste coconut, didn't see coconut flakes, they told me that it was coconut batter. Nothing I've ever seen before. Overall the food was good, the waitress we had did the best that she could with what was given her. But I don't feel the staff in the kitchen really know what they are doing with the product they are producing. read more

You may disagree with my rating system, but I think I would have gone for the two stars had they not served their rice in a giant genie's lamp. Roat Osha is fine if you are hungry, but I don't need to go back. I had the tofu laab esan and one of the stir fry dishes (they all seem similar with different combos of veggies). The laab was very large, but I think getting it with tofu was a mistake. I was sharing with a vegetarian friend, so I'll blame her. If you're going to order this, I have a feeling the chicken will be better. The stir fry was kind of small for the price and pretty unmemorable (it was only three days ago and I am seriously having trouble remembering it...). I do clearly remember the faux-metal genie lamp with the rice in it though. We were all, "Genie of the LAAAAAMP" Robin Williams-style. Then we quoted almost half of Aladdin. The atmosphere is better than average, but it's not exceptional either and it did really bother me that there was a huge "Don't Touch" sign scotch taped to one of the statues. I have had bad luck with Thai food for about a year now, so I might just be doomed to mediocrity. Very odd and bad customer experience. It's like the host and manager both didn't know what customer service was!! Headed there for dinner last night with a few friends who recommended the place so we got there right before 6pm. First, both the host and manager were at the host stand but with their backs turned against the customers for a few minutes not even acknowledging the incoming customers. When they finally did turn around, we were told that we would have to wait for a table despite the place not being full at all. When asked, the reason given was due to reservations and "if they don't show up, we'll give you a table" without even providing an estimated wait time. Worst was the attitude the host had when he talked to my friend! Not only did I pick up on the pretentious and d-bag vibe he was giving off, everyone in my group felt the same way just observing the conversation! It was as if he was being bothered to talk to us and that he could take or leave us. We talked as a group and decided to go elsewhere and before we left, my friend talked to the manager and mentioned the poor customer experience. The Manager basically showed no expression and asked what her name was to take us off the waiting list without even apologizing!! It was the strangest experience as I have not ever seen a restaurant so indifferent to their customers! If you appreciate that type of customer service even before sitting down and ordering, I'd recommend this place for you. Otherwise, steer clear as there are much better Thai options around- Amazing Thai, Chang Mai Thai just down Hennepin or Krungthep Thai on Nicollet (where we ended going and had a delicious dinner :). read more

I would agree with the majority of Yelpers who voted either 3 or 4 stars for this place. It's good, not terrible, but also nothing to write home about. I left saying "that was just fine." For measure, I love Thai food and have eaten at most of the Thai restaurants in the Cities. If you're dining with a partner, I'd recommend sharing an entree plus an appetizer. We in fact ordered two apps on top of our entree and had food to take home. And we were fricken hungry. The two overwhelming positives for me were the atmosphere and the accommodation of my group of 10. For Thai, it's one of the nicer looking places on the inside. Perfect for a date or celebrating a birthday, which I did. I called a week ahead, and they were able to secure a table for 10 people with no problem. That was awesome. We went here for dinner tonight based on a recommendation from a friend. Apparently Roat Osha is a sister restaurant to Tum Rup Thai. That seemed apparent upon seeing the attire of the staff, similar bar taps, and a menu that seemed to borrow from its sister. Nothing wrong with that I say. I'd rather go here than Tum Rup because parking is easier and the layout of the restaurant/bar is better. We sat at the bar because we were told that all the empty tables were for people with reservations. Mmkay. It just didn't seem like the type of place that you'd need reservations for. We like sitting at the bar, though, so no big deal. Others sitting near us were social with us and the bartender was friendly when he took our order. He even said "would you like your Lab Salad and Spring rolls at the same time and the Curry after those?" Yes, of course! However, the man in the dress shirt and tie (a manager, I presume) delivered our entree to us and I had to tell him (in a very nice way) that there was an obvious fuck-up. Entrees come last, silly! Appetizers are FIRST!!! He was completely unapologetic. We shared the spicy curry with white ginger. We were warned when ordering that it was super spicy. "Great!" we said! And it was pretty damn spicy, in a very delicious way. The vegetables in the curry were so-so, it was light on Thai basil, and I really couldn't tell there was any ginger in it at all (I like pieces of ginger I can chew on, not just minced), so that part was disappointing. The sauce made up for it though. The vegetarian fresh spring rolls were so pathetic. My boyfriend even went to so far as to call them "shitty".) Why can't anyone make these as good as the ones I make at home (in all fairness, mine fall apart pretty easily. I'm not so good at rolling them.) Or even as good as Mango Thai in St. Paul? Just put a few sprigs of cilantro or sweet basil in them and viola! You've got a better spring roll.....but no....Roat Osha thinks that a spring roll consists of only iceberg lettuce and rice noodles. There wasn't even carrot, bean sprouts, or tofu in them. Sigh....not even close to justifying the $6 charge for these. The Lab salad with tofu was better than Mango Thai in St. Paul. I'd order that again if I go back. read more

I absolutely love this place. Has great food and great drinks. And they have parking, which is a huge plus in this location. There's a lot of different areas of this restaurant to fit a number of different moods. There's the bar, great for a casual drink with a friend; casual dining areas; and more private, elegant dining areas perfect for a date. The is great as well. The apps are great as small plates if you're not super hungry, or you can get a full size entree. The portions are generous, especially for the price point. My only complaint? I always seem to have THE WORST dates here. But I guess that's not their fault. read more

I wasn't thrilled to see such a yuppy place going up in my neighborhood, but I still checked it out. I was open to the taste since it's a sister restaurant to Tum Rup Thai. They have great, consistent food that always impresses me, best Thai in the area. I love the bar area and the patio. Their siracha fried rice is amazing! It's the perfect flavoring and I always get a spice level 5, the veggies are fresh as well. The pad see yew is also a favorite; the noodles are cooked well. Eh. Try someplace else. When Sawatdee was here - I was a regular. It was a great spot with good food, good drinks and good service. Roat Osha is NOT Sawatdee. It feels a bit like Applebees inside. A bit suburban (no offense intended...), and a bit overpriced, Roat Osha feels like a corporatized version of a Thai restaurant. And that's too bad. This is a great location, a really great patio and a great concept. Execution, though, lacks totally. read more

It pains me to change my 5-star status, but this very loyal customer has been pretty disappointed with Roat Osha on my last few trips. Why? 1. They have definitely raised their prices. You get giant portions of noodle dishes and fried rice dishes - and that makes the $16 price tag easier to swallow knowing there are lots of leftovers - but the curry portions are half the size of other restaurants. $16 for red curry? No thanks. I'll go back to Karta, Thai, get twice the portion because it's the best food for leftovers, and still have money to spare. 2.The spice level is insanely inconsistent. I love spicy food but I never know whether to order a 2, a 3, or a 4 because it depends on the cook. I got my curry at a 3 today and could barely eat it but have gotten sriracha fried rice at 4 and it's more than palatable. Roat Osha, you have a very special place in my heart, but we are going to have to temporarily break while I seek out my other options. read more
