Since I've written my original review with a 2 star, I've received messages from 3 people over the last several months, who I can only assume are employees based on their comments. The latest is from a Matthew S. claiming in the history of Roat Osha there has never been a host there before 5:30pm. I guess he must be living inside the restaurant since its been open to be an expert on this. He also claims HH is everywhere in the restaurant. This Matthew guy needs to be actually dining with you or else you're a liar. The other two called me a b$tch, c$nt, a few other colorful words, and told me to go die for my comments on the service. Interestingly none of them commented on the lack of cleanliness in the restaurant that I pointed out. Maybe one of them was the culprit that took a shit all over the bathroom walls. None of these 3 trolls had any reviews written or friends on Yelp, they're not active. If these are indeed employees, I find this place even worse. No one gets better without feedback. If you're that upset about a constructive review then do something productive about it. I'm going to give honest reviews based on my own experience, even if I receive threats from the employees. read more

Unfortunately will not be eating here again. We were loyal customers for years and I enjoy the food, but we just ordered $73 of food over 2 hours ago that has yet to arrive. When we called and asked for a refund they refused, which is not the service I've come to expect. Don't order delivery as you may not get it! Writing a review for Roat Osha is a bit of a challenge. It is a nice location, menu. The food is going to be a pretty good bet but not fabulous. The prices are on the high side. But there is convenient parking. The bottle of red wine was 1/2 off. Then again, service is spotty. Two entrees were delivered quite a bit ahead of the third. Not a crisis but enough to disrupt the evening's flow. On the positive ledger, portions are large enough to share or for your lunch tomorrow. DIshes are flavorful, nothing super creative or experimental. Vegetables were fresh. So all in all, a pretty good experience. Our dishes were: Pad Thai very very good, Shrimp and scallops, good not great. Drunken noodles with scallops, soggy and broken. We thought the calamari appetizer was better than some reviewers suggested. So how to rate this mixed up experience? Better than a three, definitely not a four. I would go back but not right away. We had tried to go to Rainbow Chinese tonight but they're now closed on Monday. If I found myself in a similar situation and wasn't going to eat at Quang (one member of our group just had Vietnamese.), I would go to Roat Osha again. It was a fine experience. read more

This is one of my favorite Thai places by far now! We dined here for dinner last night and got the shrimp and scallop entree and the drunken noodles with beef along with the fresh spring roll appetizer. All three dishes were tasty and delicious. I loved them all! We got the level 4 spice level which was just right. The shrimp and scallop entree was worth the splurge since the shrimp was large, the scallops were plentiful and the sauce and veggies were amazing. The beef in the drunken noodles was tender and had a great flavor. The service was decent but since it was a pretty busy Saturday night we only received our entrees but were missing our plates to eat off of for a little while. We only had to wait about 15 min. at around 6:50 without a reservation but the time flew by since we got drinks at the bar first! They also have a great happy hour and a nice outdoor patio. And free parking which you can't beat in Uptown! This place will not disappoint your Thai food craving! I wish I lived closer! read more

Food and services were 10/10! From dumplings, shrimp, wings, salmon, pineapple fried rice, etc..it was really great tasting food not to mention our server Alex was attentive and fun! Also made sure even though we had a big group to get everything correct as much as he possibly can, we even met the owner and she was great as well! The food here is fantastic. I'd argue it to be some of the best Thai in the area. This time I got a beef steak salad and it was delicious. The servings are huge and they have tons of options I'll be coming back to try. The service was great and if you aren't sure about what you want to order, they make great recommendations as well. My husband and I had a beautiful night out at Roat Osha. We started out with the fried pork spring rolls, cream cheese wontons, Thai dumplings and chicken wings. Everything was excellent but, my favorite was the flavor of the spicy sweet chili wings The beef drunken noodles are a definite must try, I will be back for those most definitely. My husband had the seafood combo Thai fried rice, I stole all the shrimp the seafood tasted fresh and it was very flavorful. I hadn't been here in years. Myself and a couple of friends decided to stop in before a concert. The cranberry wantons were amazing! Probably the best I've ever had. The pad Thai was so good, but be warned, it is spicy! I like my food a bit spicy so I went with a 2 on the 1-5 scale hoping it would be less spicy than I would usually want since I had a long night ahead of me and didn't want any heartburn. I visited Roat Osha about a year back and didn't think much about the place. Today on visit #2, I can say this is a really nice Thai place on the Twin Cities foodscape. Roat Osha has a very nice ambience, gives it a fine dining restaurant feel. From what I heard from my friends, the taste was Americanized, but the good thing i learn't is that the food can be customized to your taste. When you order "Thai Hot" food, you get "Thai Hot" food. After all if you don't ooze liquids from your nostrils while eating thai food, you haven't eaten Thai food. My entree pick for the day was the "Mee Kah Teeh" or Red Curry with rice noodles and chicken. Simply fantastic! The portions are also normal sized for normal human beings. I did sample food from my friends, was disappointed with the Drunken Noodles ,which i thought were bland, and the tofu pieces in it very chewy. I would stay away from that. Roat Osha has been my go-to Thai place for years, not only for the excellent food, but because it was one of the few places in uptown that had free private off-street parking! The new spot is tucked away in Calhoun square. Street parking is sparse and I can't justify spending $10 to park in the neighboring ramp... I can't complain too much otherwise, but here's what I noticed: Cons: * They condensed the menu. They got rid of the Prawns & Greens salad which came on a bed of dark romaine and had a Thai peanut dressing. It was TO DIE FOR. My mom ordered an alternative, the Roast Chili salad, and it came on chopped iceberg, the dressing was blah... PLEASE bring back the Prawns Salad, and Romaine lettuce!!! * No more mint chocolates?! They used to have a big bowl of complimentary colorful mint-flavored chocolates, we miss them! * No more Thai fortune cookies to conclude your meal... Those were the tastiest little almond wafer rolls they used to give with the check, idk where else to get them, RIP cookies :( * I've never been anywhere where a single cup of jasmine tea costs more than a soda? Such good food can be ruined by such awful service. I've been to this restaurant a few times and they weren't very special. My most recent visit on 7/13 really got on my last nerves. When we walked in, we were ignored for a few minutes. The restaurant really wasn't that busy at 8 P.M. on a Saturday. A guy who was sitting at the bar stood up and walked over to us and asked how he could help us. Um... obviously we're here to eat. He seated us and walked away. Our server came by a little later. The servers at this restaurant seem to move very slowly. One kept complaining loudly about how he was so annoyed and wanted to go home. Customers shouldn't be hearing that. You better put on the fakest smile and display top-quality customer service regardless of how you feel. I can't tell you how many times I've met awful customers in the service industry but still delivered a great experience. It's not that hard. The food was actually really good. My go-to is the Thai Fried Rice w/ Mock Duck. Good fish. My partner had the Pad Thai w/ Chicken and enjoyed it. About 4 bites into our food, our dessert showed up. We hadn't even ordered dessert yet. I simply asked the server whether they had the mango with sticky rice or not. By the time we got to our dessert, it was cold and not enjoyable. The sticky rice was no longer sticky rice, it was a hard block. Yuck. And not to mention what we though was a sesame seed was actually a gnat! They had a few gnats flying around the restaurant just hanging out of people's food. One thing I'll mention is that the woman and man (I think they are the managers?) were more interested in checking in with their friends and giving them free dishes and drinks rather than checking in on other people that were in the restaurant. I was very disappointed in this place. Last night we were looking for a place to have happy hour and we decided to come here, worst idea ever. The bar and the high tops around it were full when we walked in, with a little less than an hour left for happy hour. We were told to either seat in the empty dining room and order dinner or just wait for a spot to become available at the bar area. I understand that in most places happy hour is only served at the bar, however if the place does not have any empty spots during HH they will usually honor it at a regular table. I have worked at many restaurants around the Twin Cities, and HH is always honored regardless if the place where is served gets packed. We only wanted to do happy hour there, no dinner. The situation was handled pretty poorly, because we were not the only ones there waiting for a spot to open at the bar to grab some HH drinks and food, there were a few others in the same boat. The point is, HH should be honored during the time that is being advertised by the restaurant. It should not be the customer's fault that the limited area where HH is served gets crowded. I always want to go to Roat Osha but they are a little pricey so I always find myself in Uptown thinking I can get a better trip for my wallet (which you can) but sometimes you just have to have their curry. I've had a handful of their appetizers and they are all good. This day I got their fried shrimp/basil rolls with peanut sauce and they were heavenly. The Shrimp were large, plump and tasted fresh (not the chewy frozen texture) and the basil was fried in such a way around the shrimp that it was crispy but not greasy (how do they do it?). The breading was paper thin (not icky like most fried shrimp where you're digging to find the shrimp) and it was flaky and lightly salted. The dipping sauces are eclectic and the variety makes the experience of the dish really fun to eat and super tasty as a whole. For $8.50 it was worth the quality of the food you receive (6 large shrimp). My fiance and I split a curry meal because I know they are somewhat large (nearly 2.5 servings of food). We chose the medium spicy Massamin Chicken curry with onions, potatoes and peanuts served over sticky rice. The sauce was divine - a sweet coconut flavor at first with a spicy after-bite and the whole taste settles nicely down with a milky, salty curry flavor. The chicken was lean and beaten thin, cut into strips and the potatoes were soft and absorbed the flavor of the sauce. The onions were sparse in the plate but cooked down and the few peanuts you find give you a surprising crunch every now and again. The entire meal was a perfect split for two people and the sticky rice soaked in the curry sauce is just mouth watering; for a price of $12.50 you definitely are not left with a bad taste in your mouth. We declined dessert but I did get a cool Jasmine Tea ($3.00/glass) and it was served with some local honey. The tea was light and flavorful and was perfect to wash the whole thing down. The check came with two tasty Thai fortune cookies (almost a cinnamon cookie that is light and flaky) and with a total of $26.00 for our full tummies and happily satiated craving for curry it was a great lunch. The staff are fun, the atmosphere is a very clean and classy appeal (with woodwork to keep you dazzled while you wait on your food) and the window-watching of the Uptown crowd makes for great free entertainment. If you have some extra change for lunch, I highly suggest Roat Osha. read more

I crave the jalapeno cream cheese won tons. Happy hour happens twice a day and includes drinks and great (portion sizes) foods. The curry is so hot and creamy. Tonight was the 4th or 5th time I have had Roat Osha. Food has always been good, but tonight we found a little surprise in our beef pho take out... a bug. Not just any bug, this thing was mean looking and looks as if it haled from the other side of the pond. I called Roat Osha immediately, and told them the situation and the manager was extremely nice, comped the meal and offered two free entrees next time we came in, unfortunately, I think it ruined the pho fuh' me. Too punny. Think I will stick to the sriracha fried rice. Posted the picture, which I sorta feel bad about because it's probably 1 in some large number, but this thing was gross and I want to be able to have some sort of documentation if I end up in the ER with SARS or something. The Tom Kha Sot soup that I got tonight was at best, average. Definitely not what I have come to expect from Roat Osha in the past. The taste was average. The presentation of the dish was terrible. The server almost spilled the whole bowl on my lap due to his rushing. Mind you, the restaurant was not busy yet and he was spending a lot of time "hanging out" at the host stand. The server was dropping off "to go" boxes as we were still eating, if that gives you an idea of how much he was rushing us through our meal. He also picked up the signed bill, while we were still at the table finishing our meals (a server no-no). In my opinion, ever since Roat Osha moved to this location from further up Hennepin, both the service and quality of food had declined dramatically.
