I had my 32 year old heat pump replaced with a new Ruud 3 ton. What a difference!!! It's quiet and my house is warm! The technicians who came out busted their butts to get this done in a day. It was a difficult location for them. They used drop cloths and cleaned up after themselves. STAY AWAY from this company if you value your system! I had them come and perform a yearly maintenance service on my heat pump. During the visit the technician disconnected several wires and did not reconnect them back correctly. Within 10 minutes of him leaving the system turned on and within a minute the compressor blew up! He came back and stated that he did not even touch the compressor, but the detailed invoice that I received stated that he did and that it and the entire system was working normally. The customer service / communication from management there is non-existent as the owner was notified right away, but here 18 days later he has yet to reach out to me regarding the situation or to discuss what will be done. The first call that I received from them was 11 days later from the manager to talk about the quote that the salesman sent me to replace the unit, at my cost. They clearly are not taking any responsibility for their technicians error and expect me to pay for a new system claiming that since the system was older that it was just a "coincidence" that the pump blew right after it was serviced. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the system when they arrived and again the technicians notes were that the system was operating normally. Apparently this is their standard business practice to get new sales, have their technicians totally destroy your current system so that they can sell you a new one and take absolutely no responsibility what so ever. Management was firm that I needed to pay for an entire new unit, I told them that I should not have to pay a penny and that I would contact my lawyer. Within an hour of that call I received a new quote at a discounted price - still, shouldn't have to pay anything. Currently it is with the lawyer. Will be leaving comments on every site I can find advising people to STAY AWAY from them, filing complaints with the BBB and the CCB. We had a contract for a few years with Robben & Sons Heating for regular service. We recently sold our home in Lake Oswego and I called to cancel our contract in May 2025. I was told it was cancelled. I just discovered that they had been charging my visa for the monthly contract fee, even though I had called to cancel. When I called to inquire as to why I was still being charged, I was told that I needed to send an email. I WAS NOT TOLD THAT AT THE TIME OF CANCELLATION. I finally got the contract terminated but they refuse to give me a refund for the months that we have been charged for services not rendered. Strongly recommend not signing any contracts with this company. Additionally, shop around for another company. There are quite a few reputable companies available in the area. read more

I would not recommend Robben & Sons Heating Inc. Their technicians failed to solve my furnace/boiler problem despite multiple visits. I paid over $1000 for two replacement parts that did not need to be replaced as well as their service calls--neither of which fixed the issue. After that, they stopped responding and never came back to address and resolve the ongoing problem. Fortunately, I hired "The Heating Specialists" who immediately diagnosed the real issue in one visit and repaired my furnace/boiler without unnecessary parts or delays. Our A/C died over the summer, and Robben came out to rob us. Our furnace was old, but they assured us it was a good thing to put a new $700 logic board in, yeppers, that'll keep everything up and running. Their "supervisor" even came out and installed it himself, after the first technician brought the wrong part, then had a hard time getting it installed. Robben had at least two or three sets of eyes on our unit, and yep, let's replace the logic board. Then two months later, we go to switch on the heat, and it's dead. The heat exchanger is rusted, cracked. Robben comes back out and declares it unsafe to turn our unit on, we'll need a replacement furnace, and then they ghost us. Robben should have never sold us that logic board to begin with. They should have taken one look at the unit and told us it was cracked, rusted, and unsafe to use. But nope, they were happy to take my $700 and run. read more

We got almost immediate response from Robbens and sons who assessed the problem and told us that we would need a new furnace which did not surprise us. They as quickly as possible came out here and installed a new furnace to our great relief because it was very cold. Every dealing we've ever had with them has been superb. They are expert, polite, friendly, the response is rapid and you couldn't ask for better treatment. We have been customers exclusively with them for our heating and air conditioning for over 25 years. A little over a couple decades ago we decided to replace our old heater with a new energy replacement. After spending some time researching I decided on Robben & Sons Heating, they installed a new technology Nordyne residential condensation gas furnace. Over the last couple decades that furnace has worked wonderfully, as a bonus it also saved us a fair share of money on our natural gas bill. Well last week during a cold spell it started acting up so we called Robben & Sons Heating to get scheduled for some service, they were very accommodating on the phone and scheduled for a service person to come out in a couple days. Clarence was our service technician, he was very polite and got right to the fixing the furnace. It seemed that after some testing a couple things had stopped working. Clarence was able to fix the problem a very short time and ran a few tests afterwards to make sure that everything was working properly. He cleaned up the mess, put everything back in place and I felt Robben & Sons Heating and Clarence were all very professional in doing their jobs, did their work in a timely manner and left us feeling that we were glad to do business with them. Will most definitely recommend them and look forward to doing business with them again in the future should the need arise! read more

I suspected the problem with my oil furnace was simple, but it wasn't working. 30 degree nights were coming, and I needed someone out quick. I had a couple companies try to schedule me for four weeks out. I was very pleased when Robben & Sons said they'd come out the next day. Randall was knowledgeable and let me watch from a distance. I like to learn mechanical things when I can. As suspected, it was a fairly easy issue. They charged for a tuneup, which wasn't cheap, but was probably in line with anybody else. He made a brief assessment, quickly went to get a part and replaced it, all within two hours, And our furnace was back up and working again. He took the time to explain his findings and assessment. Had Bens heating out approx. July 14th 2022. we had a problem with the heat pump shutting down after a few minutes of run time. after explaining what occurred (when heat pump shuts down furnace fan continues to run and pump heat into the house even though the thermostat is set for cooling). We were told they couldn't find anything wrong and to call when the problem happened again. You would think they would know what to look for on a furnace the replaced a few years ago?? Note: this quote is not based on services performed. I had asked this team to come out to give me a quote two weeks ago. The day of, I left work to be home for the quote; 5 minutes past the appointment time, I call to check in - they were not able to tell me where Paul was. 20 minutes past the time of the appointment, I get a call saying he's stuck in standstill traffic. I checked google maps and there is virtually no traffic between Clackamas and my house (which is a 25 minute drive). It kills me when people can't be on time when I want to pay you - even if there might be traffic, be proactive and check the ETA feature on your phone! Again, no comment on actual services performed. EDIT: in response to Paul's response below, I had asked when I originally made the appointment how long it would take and the individual who I made the appointment with told me it would be quick (definitely NOT 1-2 hours as Paul mentioned below). This company was truly difficult to communicate with. Multiple calls a day went unreturned and information regarding the details of our repair were not relayed for weeks after we requested information. Weeks and then months went by without any progress made on our urgent repair (we were left without heat in our home during colder months with an infant and they knew this). After time, it became clear they had no idea how to repair our radiant floor heating and we went with another company who was light years more professional and competent. I would stay away from this company if you have anything complex or urgent that needs to be done. They will not make the customer a priority and you will be left in the dark and who knows if they will even do a good job because they will tell you they know what they are doing even when it was clear they did not. read more

Then another guy came later and said he would call for service which never happened. So frustrating with this company. Too many other companies that would love to get business. We had to have 3/4 the duct work removed due to asbestos and Robben and Sons did the rebuilding work - not to mention gave us a good asbestos abatement guy. Jason is great to work with and definitely makes you feel taken care of. Day of the work the repair guy was a an hour and a half late but was a good guy and I was is no huge rush. He worked all day and knocked out what we thought was going to be a 2 day project. New duct work and a new AC unit installed. Mark down for the 1 star is I did have to bug them for a week to get them out to fix 2 duct sections that were missed inb the rebuild. But they came out and knocked out that last section in a hour or so and the airflow is better than in any home I have ever lived. Good guys, good tips on being conscious of where your heat goes (watch that chimney flue damper). Would use again but hope I won't need to for a long time. read more

After doing business with Robben & Sons for about 20 years I am very disappointed in their response to a minor complaint. Seems to be a disconnect between the office ladies and the technicians/managers/owners. I called and asked to talk with Paul about my disappointment with the service I received the last two times I had work done. Usually owners want to know if and why a long time customer is dissatisfied. She told me that Paul and Mark were both busy so I asked her to have one of them call me. She then wanted to know what the issue was then tried to justify their miscommunication. I asked her to have Paul call me and she said she would. I never heard a thing since. Our Testament to Rinnai Tankless Gas Hot Water Heater: We are very happy with our new Rinnai Tankless Gas Hot Water Heater. We always have hot water with five people taking showers and running the dishwasher and the washing machine. We love the fact that the unit is eco friendly, fits snuggly on the wall and we don't have to worry about the old cumbersome hot water tank we had. We do not have to worry about the unit due to the great Warranty that came with it. The support we have received from Robben & Sons has been tremendous. I recently purchased a house that had a hot water furnace installed by Paul Robben in 1995. The welded copper pipe fittings for the heating system are now leaking in three different areas (perhaps more) inside the walls throughout the house. I called Mr. Robben and had him inspect the leaks. He confirmed that he had indeed done the work and said that he would "look into why this was happening" and get back to me. I never heard from him again. I had my general contractor reach out to try and get some accountability and answers from Mr. Robben, but he refused to agree to repair the inferior welds, saying that his work was only waranteed for ONE YEAR. He did agree, however, to charge me more money to install pex pipe in place of the copper pipe he had installed just 16 years before. I have declined this offer because I would never knowingly allow this person in my house again. I'm not an HVAC expert, but I have since learned that copper pipes and fittings are supposed to last for DECADES and CENTURIES, not 16 years. When I had a second HVAC company inspect and repair the leaking welds, the repairman stated that the original installer "did not know what he was doing". The welds were uneven and of poor quality. There were flakes and chips everywhere. It looked as though the welding material was not heated properly, and because of this, the welds didn't last. I'm writing this review in hopes that others will learn from my experience. Robben and Sons do NOT stand behind their work. They will NOT rectify problems that they knowingly have caused. They will attempt to "DOUBLE-DIP" people for work that they have already been paid to do. If I had actually paid Robben and Sons for this faulty installation, I would be filing complaints with the Oregon State Contractor's Board and the Better Business Bureau (there have been others that have done this--check it out). I would also be filing a lawsuit against this company for substandard workmanship. But because I inherited this problem from the previous homeowner, all I can do now is warn other potential customers about the DISREPUTABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES of Robben and Sons. They told me would be $150 just to come out without service, and I needed a HP a kit before I could get a date. I'm pretty sure this receptionist lied to me. I had it serviced by Pioneer instead they charge me $140 same day service, turned out just need a new wire and some dip switches reset. I recommend against these people, but I never did receive any service. Only lip from the receptionist!! read more

Their bid was competitive and fair. I liked the fact that this company is on the list of NW Natural recommended contractors. The installers answered questions I asked as they worked. They completed the installation in a single day. The work passed inspection without any problems. I am very happy with the entire process. A few weeks ago, I noticed that our heat pump didn't seem like it was putting out any heat. I gave Robben & Sons Heating a call. They had set me up with an appointment for one of the technicians to come out. My heat pump was at least 15 years old and I had an idea that it had probably reached the end of its life expectancy. The technician, Josh arrived on time. I might add, I did reschedule from my original appointment. When I did reschedule, the staff, particularly Mary Jo at Robben & Sons were very professional, accommodating and was able to set me up with another appointment within a week. Josh ran some diagnostics and gave me the news that I was hoping not to hear....no refrigerant and weak heat strips. Josh recommended replacement and I agreed. He offered to have a project consultant to come out and give me an estimate. Fortunately, the consultant had an opening later in the day. The consultant, whose name is Roz, arrived and looked over my situation. Roz asked some questions regarding our heating and cooling patterns of my wife and me. We were limited to options as we live in a manufactured home. Roz worked out a solution which included increasing the size of my unit to a Bosch 3-ton condenser from a 2-ton. I agreed with this as I always thought the 2-ton was undersized for this size house and the number of windows we have. I sold HVAC many, many years ago, so I have a little knowledge of the products. I was happy with the product and felt the price was within the reasonable limits. Sold! So, I was set up for installation within a reasonable time. Matt and Anthony showed up on time and worked the entire day installing my new system. During the installation, Matt answered the questions that I had and provided valuable training on my new thermostat. The thermostat is very cool. It is a Bryant Housewise with wi-fi. Away from the house, I can check the current temperature and increase the heat or turn on the cooling side. It gives me a weather forecast as well as other options. The install team finished up and cleaned up leaving the area spotless. There are a lot of HVAC companies and they all have different prices, higher and lower from what I paid. Bottom line is the office and management staff is professional and customer oriented. The techs, sales staff and install team are professional and customer oriented. They sell a quality product with a service staff that backs it up. As you can see, I was happy with the process and would recommend Robben & Sons to anyone. read more

I do not take back any previous complaints about the office staff but the company, the supervisors, and the tech are first rate. The tech arrived today with the replacement part. The furnace still would not run, he found that the concentric air intake was plugged with leaves. He cleaned that out and the furnace would still not run. He traced the fault back to the thermostat. He did not have an equivalent replacement but management okayed him installing a much more expensive model instead at no extra cost. Now my furnace runs. Thank you Robben & Sons. read more
