Maybe it was the outdated signs, the old-school pizzeria vibe, or even the TV playing biblical stories--but it just felt like the kind of spot that makes classic, no-frills pizza. And I was absolutely right. We ordered a white pizza, and it was delicious--definitely that old-school flavor I was hoping for. Today, I had a sudden urge inside of my stomach. Something like Winnie the Pooh looking for honey and the rumble led me to Roberto's Pizza in Pennbrook. Now, I haven't been there in quite some time because I knew the owners had switched over a few years ago; however, the Italian sub I had still possessed its original taste. There's something about a sub roll when it meets the meat, cheese, and spices with herbs, along with the oil and vinegar on an Italian sub. There's nothing better than when it hits all at once. Personally, there are two things that make a great sub: the roll and, of course, the meat. I walked in roughly around 12 noon, and I was surprised to see so many people inside waiting to get their food. That was a good thing, only because I know people are now back to working on their lunch breaks; not only that, if it's packed at the lunch hour, it means the food and the pizza are definitely good. I made my order ahead of time, picked up my sub, and was in and out. Of course, I finished it with a delightful Coca-Cola. Nothing is better than a good old Coca-Cola. I was intrigued by the multiple pizzas already ready inside the window with delightful choices such as Buffalo Chicken, Grandma, Vegetable, and also Meat Lovers, which all looked delicious. The staff are very nice, and the lovely lady with the beautiful blue eyes at the register made me want to purchase more food. But at that time, I wasn't shot by Cupid. I must say, I will give the sub a hard 4.8 out of 5 and the experience inside the restaurant definitely a 4 out of 5. This was our first time ordering from Roberto's and it was sort of a fluke because it was the only pizza place open on SLICE that delivered on Labor Day. Thankfully everyone else was closed because Robertos was Delicious! We ordered a large cheese pizza with tomatoes and onions and their regular Italian sub.   The pizza was very good with a nice balance in the crust between softness and firmness. The sauce had a nice flavor also. The Italian sub was amazing, with good portions of meat and cheese. The highlight was the sub roll, which was baked just right and had a good flavor.  We will definitely be ordering from Robertos again soon. read more

Aug 25th *Food -pizza was great as always! *Service -When I first walked in the guy behind the counter looked at me and made a comment that elicited some minor chuckles from the other staff. I don't speak Spanish, so I think that maybe I am being overly sensitive. I ordered my pizza (Lg pepperoni & pineapple) and wings. I sit and wait. While waiting an obviously intoxicated individual enters and approaches the counter. He is LOUD! They [employees] must know him as they go back and forth in conversation. Suddenly, the drunk individual says loudly, "PEPPERONI AND PINEAPPLE!" and finishes the rest of his sentence in Spanish. They all start laughing. Now I know they were definitely talking about me. Totally uncool! *Ambiance -while waiting there was a fight about to break out at another table with the argument tone rising and lowering as the "F" bombs were dropped across the table. I don't want to exaggerate the scene as they were not at all yelling, but tensions were above average. I have only lived in the area for a short period, and this was roughly my tenth or so time at this establishment. I have always thought this establishment was a great go-to place for pizza but now I am unsure about this. It breaks my heart to do this review, especially since I've been visiting Roberto's since I was in high school back in the 90s. This is back when they used to give you a real sub with real steak meat as opposed to that steak umm scraps! Nonetheless, I've moved to a different state, and now my son is a fan although he knows nothing about the real deal! After our hometown visit, we love to take some sandwiches back with us. However, the last few times we have come for a cheesesteak they 've gotten worse...WEAK! There is no meat in the sandwich, and the bread seems too dark and hard. They've replaced the Steak Umm meat with primarily onions now! I always ask for light onions because of it, and still the thing is loaded down! I saw the man putting a pile of onions on someone else's sandwich too! The sauce seems like they've added water to it, leaving no substance! Not to mention, there seems to be too many people behind the counter, and the staff seems to change! I don't recognize any of the staff who would recognize me anymore. I also waited way too long! I'm not sure what kind of restaurant their trying to turn this into! I ended up throwing my sandwich away this time! I called the store, and someone said there was no manager, but he would deliver the message. Please whatever you decided to do, change it back! It's sad to see the quality change. Best Stromboli I had in a very long time! The crust was nice & thin & crispy. Not doughy at all. I got the Classic Boli, add mustard, like the American Boli, which, unfortunately they put on the side. Next time I will be sure to clarify. Umm... have you ever heard a sausage boat? Imagine homemade sausage inside a sub roll with fresh cheese! Now go get in your car and order one from Roberto's. A few months ago my friend's husband grabbed subs for us from Roberto's and he ordered the sausage boat for himself. I was DYING to try one for myself after trying a bite of his! It is perfect! I would like to try the pizza, meatballs sub and a few other menu items! One thing that kills me and the reason they are t getting five stars is that it is .50 to refill your cup. This seems like an old school practice. Like obviously everyone is going to refill so up the original price by .10 and obviously people are getting refills without paying which makes it unfair to those who do. This has always been a go to spot. The main chefs do a great job with the pizza, specifically the buffalo chicken pizza! Mostly good things to say about the food. The downside is the customer service. This location literally got 3 straight call In orders either completely wrong, or forgot to start cooking it until we showed up. The lady at the register doesn't have a great attitude, and wears her mask under her face which defeats the purpose. Also, the most recent visit an employee simply wasn't wearing a mask at all. He was slicing a customers pizza while yelling across the room (with no mask on overtop the pizza). In the midst of a public health crisis, watching them hand that pizza to the customer really turned me away from wanting to continue eating here. Hopefully they can regroup and fix some of the simple things because the chefs do a good job! read more

I haven't had the pizza here but writing my review based on the sandwiches. I am a big fan of home made bread and when I get into that 'I'm craving a sandwich' mode, Roberto's makes the cut. The bread is really good with a nice chewy, but not too chewy, consistency. They are very generous on the fillings and the price is very reasonable. The cheese steak and the Italian sub are both very good. Eying a Parmesan type sandwich for my next visit. The fries are the best I have had in the area .... they are breaded then fried. Another plus: nice big parking lot and very conveniently located. Staff was very nice also. All in all, a very adequate pizza parlor type atmosphere with really good sandwiches! On another note! Ha! So this is a tough review to write. You see we came in for lunch and ordered a large pizza. 20-30 minutes later the pizza arrives and it is huge... I mean falling off the pan huge. So we proceed to eat it. My wife loves it... I find myself reaching for salt, parmesan, garlic, etc to bring it alive. While it gets fractionally better, I wonder why just coming out of the oven it doesn't taste better. Well with a pizza that size, we cannot finish it. I proceed to get a box and am approached by one of those in charge asking how we liked the pizza. I tell him it was good and he proceeds to tell me that about 15-20 minutes after we were sitting he realized that our order was never put in. So he proceeds to let us know that he ended up grabbing one of the cheese pizzas that was already cooked for those buying slices and put pepperoni on it and put it back in the oven. He didn't want us to think that we would always get a pizza that size. So this explanation may answer why it didn't seem quite right. The lunch slice pizza's are larger than a 'large' so that was a positive (but apparently not normal). But we ended up with a pizza that had been sitting out and was reheated without having the pepperoni's originally cooked in and simply added later. Hopefully if we ever get back I can get a better sense of what a real pizza is like from Roberto's. Nevertheless, you get a photo out of this as there was no photo's of their pizza posted. read more

I was at a buddys house that's close by this place. I worked up my appetite and ordered a large Meatball Stromboli. I went to pick it up and it was ready in 20 mins. Restaurant is decent..clean...good location. The stromboli was good size and the marinara sauce is clearly made in house. Meatballs were tasty and tons of cheese. I guess my only critique of the food was I would of liked to see more meatballs inside. A little on the short side. Customers will come back for more so just load it up man.. Oh where to begin, The Pie: Pizza probably rates as one of the top 5 worst pizzas that I have ever had. It was an undercooked doughy flavorless mess. I have traveled the country eating in nearly every state, so to make my top 5 is saying something. Also have owned two successful restaurants/pizza shops. The owners of his shop should attend the pizza show in Las Vegas, (held in Jan. Annually) where they can learn the basics of pizza making. A basic dough recipe (flour, salt, granulated garlic, salt & water) along with some quality ingredients (Stanislaus sauce) will make you a pie to be proud to sell to the community. One of the better pizza places in Harrisburg. This one and the one of Jonestown Road are up to par with each other. We got a large sausage pie and ate the entire pie in one sitting. What defines a good pizza is the crust then the sauce. The crust is very good and not overly saucy. I would definitely recommend the pizza here to anyone. read more

I tried this location because it is on my way home from work and a friend recommend them. We didn't call ahead but walked in and ordered a large sausage pizza. It only took about 15 minutes, and we watched TV while we waited. At least 3 people came in for orders while we waited, and they seemed to be loyal/repeat customers (always a good sign). Pretty good I'd say, I ordered for delivery. A medium regular Stromboli with jalapeño poppers and chicken fingers. It was all delivered pretty fast and the food was hot, all good signs. The Stromboli tasted very good l as well as the other food. I especially enjoyed the poppers, they were golden brown and the stuffed cream cheese was a nice mixture of creamy and smooth. Only thing that would keep this from being perfect is that the Stromboli had a bit too much grease for my liking. When I opened the box, there was grease everywhere. I was a regular customer here for many years. My co-workers and I would often go to this Roberto's for lunch. My terrible experience is not so much with their food but with the poor attitude, lack of empathy and just total disregard of someone in need of assistance. I was traveling behind my husband on Walnut street around 7:30 in the morning on our way to drop off his truck to get serviced when just short of Roberto's parking lot, it cut off on him. We were in the middle of Walnut street during morning rush hour and had to wait until traffic cleared enough where I could at least push his truck forward some and into the Roberto's parking lot to get it out of the road. So that is what we did and called the garage right away to ask if they can come tow it from there. Meanwhile employees started to show up for work at Roberto's while my husband waits for the tow truck. My husband out of common courtesy went inside to let the staff know what happened and that a tow truck is coming within the hour. From the very start, the first staff member who showed up first to work looked at the clock and said, "Well the others will be here in about an hour. They will need a place to park" Rather rude with little regard to our situation. A little later while STILL waiting on this tow truck, other staff started to show up and when my husband, once again, went inside to let others know what is going on and that he is still waiting on the tow truck, they too had very much the same attitude and proceeded to tell my husband that he needs to get it moved because they have customers that will start coming and need those spaces. Once staff member says it rather rudely and walks away. I'm sorry that we have interrupted your parking spaces (about 2, maybe 3 because of where the truck stalled), but you could have just a little more compassion about our situation. As if we totally wanted to hang out in your unplowed parking lot on one of the coldest days of the year just to annoy you. We will never, NEVER, visit your restaurant again based on this experience. I just can't believe the disrespect, dirty looks and rude attitude towards my husband because we had the nerve to stall in front of your restaurant. Thanks so much for being such goodhearted, kind and empathetic individuals. Your staff is the prime example of human kind. NOT. You were every bit of an A-hole.
