Hubby and I have been on the hunt for our go-to taco shop since moving to Oceanside last November, so we are slowly making our way around town trying different taco shops. Unfortunately I wouldn't say this place is going to be "The One" we go to in the future, although I can't say it was a bad experience or bad food. It is just standard. Their California burrito was fine - nothing bad and nothing to write home about. I do wish they had better salsa, but sadly none of them were all that great. The green sauce was the best of all of the salsas offered though. Hubby had the carnitas plate (extra crispy meat), which he said was good but also standard. Roberto's Tacos has been a San Diego staple for over 50 years. They set the stage for the more authentic Tijuana fast food revolution that is present throughout San Diego. The Oceanside store has the number 13 attached to it. I surmise that indicates it is their 13th store and must have been around for some time. Their food is outstanding and their price is more than fair for the quantity and quality you get. I love their Carne Asada Burrito's that comes with plenty of Carne Asada, guacamole, pico in a huge flour tortilla. This is a treat for us when we visit because in the Bay Area Mexican taco shops fill their burritos with rice and beans, gross! Another treat is their Rolled Tacos with or without guacamole. You can get beef or chicken. They are crispy and oh so good. On this visit we noticed this Roberto's had some specialty burritos that I might have to try next time. One was a Carne Asada burrito with spicy hot Cheetos and another that had 2 rolled tacos inside a Carne Asada burrito. Love it! When in San Diego take some time and visit a Roberto's Tacos. You will enjoy a fantastic inexpensive meal and instantly become a critic of Mexican food outside of San Diego. This place sucks. With so many other similar options nearby, this one should be up on the competition. Definitely not. Tacos are lame, very weak flavor, too large, and over priced for the quality of food. Rolled tacos aren't any better. Charged extra for standard things such as lettuce, cheese. Everything is covered with aluminum foil or rolled in paper, so be prepared to have fun figuring out what your food is supposed to be after you get home. Don't waste your time or hard earned money, Diego's a block north blows this place out of the water. Colima's in downtown Oceanside is also way better. read more

My car was being checked out across the street and it was late in the afternoon. Hadn't had anything to eat yet. I was pondering a burrito and asked one of the guys at the shop where to go after looking up and down the street and seeing four different Mexican places within a block and a half or so. He pointed right across the street to Roberto's without hesitation saying "My money's on Roberto's". So off I went. I had been to other Roberto's restaurants in the past, so I know their food in general. I got a good 'ol fashion carne asada burrito. Lots of meat, with diced onions, tomatoes and cilantro with a touch of guac. a great combination when you're in a crunch and craving Mexican food. What can I say about Roberto's? Only that is my favorite place to get California burritos, and trust me I've tried a lot of other places. Roberto's #13 just stole my heart. My family and I have been coming here for years. Even when I moved away for school I would always come here to get a California burrito before leaving town. When I introduced the burritos to my bf, he was hooked. It was love at first bite! The reason I love their burritos is that the meat is not dry at all. I've had issues in the past with other places and the carne asada being dry and i just feel like I'm eating a cardboard burrito. BUT not here! I usually order a California burrito with a side of roll tacos if someone is there to help me. I've definitely had their other food as well and I like it I just prefer the Cali burrito. As for service they are all super nice. They were charging a few cents for using your credit/debit card so if you have cash it's even better! Location is also good there is definitely parking available and if you are too stuffed you can always take a short drive to walk at the pier. read more

We love this place! Their homemade tortillas are to die for as well as their pintos. We make it a staple to stop by Roberto's EVERY TIME we are in the San Diego area. Stay far away! I'm surprised to see they have 4 stars, I suppose it's from the non mexican people who don't know any better. I ordered the carne asada burrito and it was extremely bland. The carne was really dry and was obviously not seasoned. The only redeeming quality was the red salsa that I had to drench it in to finish it. My girlfriend ordered the fish tacos and they were just disgusting. Over battered and obviously was frozen then thrown into the frier immediately after coming out of the freezer. We could tell the fish was probably sitting in the freezer for a week or two as the inside texture resembled tofu and not fish. She also got the refried beans that lacked salt like the legitimate ones you can find in mexican households or authentic restaurants. It also had that preservative taste to it which means they came out of a can. Any mexican will know the difference between home cooked and canned. In the end we ended up throwing away the tacos. Also the guy before me ordered the Chile relleno burrito and I watched the cook pull out a container from the fridge and microwave the Chile before putting it into a burrito absolutely disgusting!! This is not mexican food but a cheap abomination. read more

Roberto's is by far my go-to Mexican place. If I want something Mexican and I want it fast-- I go to Roberto's. And have literally been going since birth. And I absolutely refuse to go anywhere else. My favorites-- literally everything. To be more specific, I usually rotate between: the veggie burrito, bean and cheese burrito (best beans around-- HANDS DOWN!!), rolled tacos, carne asada nachos, enchilada plate, quesadilla, beef tacos, and probably much much more. And I smother it all in the red hot sauce. AHHHH-mazing!! I take extra home so I can smother it on my home made food. They seriously need to bottle that ish. Oh and I recently tried my brother's Crazy burrito (like a veggie burrito with rolled tacos in it). Sounds completely redic-- but oh man it works. We were visiting from out of town and wanted some really good Mexican food. Unfortunately, we were limited because we did not have a car. We Yelped Roberto's and it indicated it was known best for its California Burrito. We walked there yesterday at around 6:30 pm and were excited to chow down! Upon entering, we noticed a few others there. We also noticed the portions were pretty huge (fries, carne asada fries, nachos), so we placed our order. We sat down and ate. It was very bland and didn't have much flavor. I was so disappointed:( because I really wanted it to be good. Customer service was okay, too. This place has some good things going for it, and some bad things going against it. First off, the California burrito includes carne asada, fries, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. The California burritos always come out flavorful and big enough to satisfy you. They are open late, which is good, however, the area is kinda shady with a bunch of homeless people sleeping on the strip mall sidewalk right next to this place. They do have a salsa bar for you to get whatever you want. They don't have any seating outside, so it's not dog friendly. And lastly, they don't offer free refills on soda drinks which are already pretty expensive. There are better places for California burritos, but late at night, if you're feeling the burrito itch, there are not a lot of places better. Will be back in a pinch. read more

Great value - burrito was surprisingly large for $5.75. About 3/4 of the way through it I was stuffed, but I pressed on to enjoy the great flavor. Get a California Burrito and put a little of the green salsa on it. The atmosphere inside made me feel like I was at a classic hole in the wall joint. Classic Mexican yellow colors, but everything was very clean. Man behind the counter was friendly and professional. Will return to try other burritos. read more

A typical hole-in-the-wall and some of the staff can seem that their minds are elsewhere. But that's not what you go to Roberto's for. The food is good! I am partial to the tortas, quesadillas, and rolled tacos. They can be messy, but still delicious. And because the salsas are so popular, they are having to create a new batch continuously. Food was on point. Fluffy rice and good beans...I had a crunchy beef taco and a beef enchilada. Both pretty good..this should be a 4 or 4.5 but customer service goes a long way with me... I didn't receive a Hi when I walked in she just looked at me. , She then just looked at me impatiently while I looked at the menu. I gave a card for payment she said there is an extra charge and pointed to a sign that said .45 extra I said that's fine. -Rude service- I ordered a fish burrito but when i got my order they gave me a fish taco. I tried to explain that I didn't order a fish taco, that I paid for the burrito but they did not believe me. When I said just forget it and tried to order the burrito, there were these two older ladies that were cooks who started talking in Spanish about me. I let them talk and continue their conversation as they made fun of me for paying extra however, here's a twist I speak Spanish to.
