We were here for a meeting and chose to eat at the hotel, where the meeting was taking place. The staff who seated us were very friendly. We made a reservation right away to make sure we had a table. Our table was on the side room that was cold and didn't have the beautiful sunshine Coming in. We ordered off the menu. I had a crabcake. Another person had the salmon sandwich, and another ordered the chicken Cajun style sandwhich. I would give the food rating a five out of 10 . my crab was made with a lot of filler and as a crabcake expert it was not very good. The salmon sandwich was very dry and my friend had to ask for extra vinaigrette dressing, finally the fries were a little cold. All I wanted was to place an order for a linguini seafood pasta to take back to my hotel room. I asked about six different servers and restaurant employees, including bartenders and mentioned I just want to place an order to-go. For twenty minutes, I kept getting passed over and being told "yeah, someone will come help you." Finally, I resorted to sitting down at a table before being addressed several minutes later. I told the manager that I was waiting to place an order to-go and he said that wasn't common and that that was the reason for the delay. What the hell...? Our hamburgers were very good, as were the fries that were served with it. But, when we got our bills they charged us $30 for our $18 hamburgers. First thing you notice when you enter is how beautiful this restaurant looks. The huge chandeliers are just magnificent. Yes, the decor is old, but it's glamourous. It's located at the Omni hotel and it matches the vibe of the hotel. We had the Eggs Benedict (with no meat) and I thought it was good. Coffee was excellent. She is a bully and very rude to the guests. The kitchen was not able to substitute walnuts with hazelnuts on our salad after informing them that one of us was allergic to walnuts. Stopped by here when a friend was in town. It was a rainy day, and the hotel was so nicely decorated. Robert's Restaurant was the same way, as it's in the hotel, no separate door to the restaurant, etc. The 2 of us were seated, but the table layout made us super close to others. Wasn't really a big deal for us though. Service was quite horrible and awkward. It took a long time for them to take our orders, and we felt a bit judged by what we were choosing. We got the following - Crab cake - a single crab cake for well over $10. It was $16? Waiter told us, "that's an app. Is enough to share?" We asked how big the crab cake was so we can decide whether we wanted the single or the 2. He said, "I don't know." Thanks. The crab cake ended up being quite delicious. Probably one of the best I've had around the downtown DC area, and only one I've had in the Adams Morgan/woodley park area. Duck - my friend hasn't tried duck before so we ordered it to try. The waiter told us as we were ordering, "that doesn't come with vegetables." We weren't even asking, but we somehow felt a bit demanded to get veggies. The duck was alright, not the most spectacular, but it wasn't too fatty or anything. The skin portion was a bit soggy like, barely any bit of crunch. Wasn't bad duck, but wasn't worth the price. String beans- when we first asked for the tomatoes/squash veggie side, the waiter blurted, "those are raw." Fine, we'll get the string beans. They were blackened, plain, okay tasting. The "risotto" - the waiter said, "it's not regular risotto. There's no rice." Whatever, we ordered it anyways and we saw the quotes within the word. This was pretty good- nice fake risotto. There were some raisins and almonds, but not over powering. It had great texture, all nice and creamy too. They charge for 6oz of wine over the price of the bottles worth. For example, you could get a bottle of kris Pinot Grigio for under $12 a bottle, and 6 oz of it here is around $14 or so. We got the chocolate pie for dessert. It was beautifully plated, and the crust was all cinnamon-y. Delicious! It came with chocolate pieces, and the texture was good too. Nice, convenient meal at the hotel. First class, friendly service- host was going to seat us next to the silverware station etc- I asked that we find a spot away from the noise maker. He was very accommodating and polite. Our server was friendly. She was very busy, but seemed to handle it. I got the Caesar salad with anchovy. It was very fresh and wonderfully coated dressing served with white anchovies. It had nice large shavings of a fine tasting Parmesan. I really enjoy good, simple. This was a fine example. It's large and one can add protein for a nominal amount. I didn't. The next course was a burger. It was cooked nicely Med well- fresh lettuce nicely grill heated fresh bun- fries were served in a stainless type cup. It's nice bc they drain somewhat. I didn't find them oily at all. Hey we checked in late, we debated but thought let's just hotel dinner it bc we have a six year old. It worked out nicely. I was happy with it and very full after a long day of just coffee for us. The simple is done well here. I'd eat here again. read more

The food was generally good as expected for the price, but front of house service was very disjointed and inattentive for both lunch and dinner service. This is a review for the breakfast buffet in case anyone wants to know if it is worth booking a room at the Omni Shoreham with the breakfast included package. I could not find any information on the Internet about the breakfast buffet. It is normally $10 more than the room charge. They also have a Zoo Package for about $20 more where you can get breakfast and some kind of zoo souvenier. News flash, the zoo is free, so why would you pay extra to get into the zoo?! Yes, it is worth getting for an additional $10 because the breakfast is normally $20. There is a lack of other breakfast options in the neighborhood (two block radius for me, I did not have time to walk far), and the hotel's quick breakfast options are pricey and limited. When we had breakfast there, the restaurant was mostly empty, with a lot of waitstaff. I guess it's a combination of the prices and intimidating ambiance. However, once you sit down, the waiters are so helpful and attentive, coming back over and over to see if you need anything. For breakfast, there are several stations. There is the hot food station with such breakfast items (varying daily) as eggs Benedict with crab meat (fabulous), scrambled eggs with salsa (the salsa was not good and strong on weird spices for my taste), bacon, etc. Then there are the cold items such as lox, capers, onions, prosciutto, salami, etc. There is a chef who can make you an omelete with different ingredients of your choice. You can also get Belgian waffles, pancakes, bagels, muffins, croissants, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, etc.. A wide variety of fresh fruit is also available, such as cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapples, bananas, etc. So, you can get just about anything you want for breakfast there. The waiter brought coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice to our table. I highly recommend getting the breakfast package. read more

This was amazing for a hotel restaurant. One of the best breakfasts that I've had. Decided to try it on a visit only because of the setting, with zero expectations for food, especially after I saw a buffet set up. Fortunatley, we ordered from the menu. The steak and eggs included a perfectly seasoned and medium-rare cooked hanger steak. The eggs were also a delightful perfect over easy, as ordered. I felt it was a bargain for $24. Certainly a better option than the more expensive conventional buffet breakfast for $27. My companion had the french toast, and said it was the best he had ever had. It looked fantastic. This review has nothing to do with the food. We were staying at the hotel and made reservations a month ago. In advance we were advised that they couldn't accept credit cards. That wasn't a problem because we were going to charge dinner to the room. It took about 5 minutes to be seated. We were near the large back window so there was a nice view. We waited another 5 minutes and no server. We went back to the front desk to ask for a wine list. After another 20 minutes we still hadn't seen a single server. Booked this reservation because my boyfriend and I stayed at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. We had a reservation for 12:15pm and we checked out of our room at 11:30. The restaurant was very accommodating and sat us down for lunch earlier than our reservation. Our waiter was great! We got orange juice to start and it tasted fresh! We also had a Caesar salad to start and we thought it would come in a small plate but it was big and can feed two people. For our main dish we got the steak frits and it was AMAZING. Came here for dinner, started at the bar and made reservations for our group of 7. We sat in the couch area outside the lobby which was nice and cozy. Drinks were reasonably priced and the server was very nice. We made it over to our table, we definitely didn't need reservations as there were only 3 other tables occupied on a Saturday night. Maybe it was just an off night, but it was not crowded at all. Later that evening, we went out to the garden in the back. I wish we had known they had outside tables because it was so nice and lush! The indoor seating area was very pretty though, a huge old room with lots of light and ornate decorations. We all ordered drinks and our food. Drinks came quickly, and they poured both the wine and the hard liquors very generously. Sadly, they were out of the corned beef hash, which we were excited to try. Salads and soup came 15 minutes after we ordered, and entrees came 15 minutes after salad. All the salads were solid! They were large and were dressed well. Everyone enjoyed their entree, but it was somewhere we would eat at again for convenience when we stay at the hotel, but otherwise not be bothered. The service was alright. They didn't take the salad plates when they were empty, and instead had to juggle plates when they brought the entrees. I came here for late Sunday lunch with friends who are regular at this restaurant. This is a hidden gem. Many hotel guests go out to restaurants outside because the hotel is located right next to Woodley Park/Adams Morgan. The restaurant was so quite, so spacious and so much sunlight from the big window. They have balcony seating when it's warmer and they have fire place in the balcony as well. This place is perfect for quiet dining or cocktail time. I was a bit disappointed by the small selection of lunch menu (hope they have more selections for dinner) but the price was not crazily expensive (when you enter, it doesn't look cheap at all but I was rather relieved when I saw the price on the menu). I had Croque Monseur and Crab Bisque. The hotel parking is expensive (it will be more than your lunch money). I recommend you to find a street parking. read more

First off, props to the waitstaff and host for being polite even when we walked in late night after a hot summer's day of walking around town. Second, the chef(s) have near spot on timing regarding food prep. The bread basket and accompanying olive oil was terrible. The loaves were cold and tough, and the herbs in the olive oil weren't great. Butter was called for, which helped ameliorate the problem. A. started off with the soup of the day, a chilled raspberry and strawberry soup. It was a nice and smooth puree, with a hint of mint and ginger, sweet and refreshing for a balmy summer night. The kid at our table got her mac and cheese (I stole a bite - delicious) during the appetizers, so she was sitting somewhat bored during the rest of the meal. Y. had the mushroom fettuccine. The fettuccine itself was made with mushrooms. Decent overall taste, but it was a little bland and boring just tossed with a few more mushrooms and some oil. A. had the fennel pollen arctic char with apple slaw and wild rice. The char was delicious, and cooked perfectly. C. had the cocoa and coffee filet mignon. This dish succeeded and failed. The filet mignon was tender, seasoned well, and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The only problem was that there wasn't even a slightest hint of cocoa or coffee. I had the rack of lamb, with mint risotto and broccollini. The lamb was absolutely delicious, tender and cooked to a perfect rare. The risotto was okay, it was lukewarm with a very faint hint of mint (good for me, since I'm not a huge fan of mint). Broccollini was simple, but would've preferred if it was slightly more tender. We kind of wanted dessert, but as stated earlier, we got to Robert's pretty late (around 9:40pm). Waitstaff didn't suggest earlier that we should order dessert ahead of time if we wanted it. Overall, delicious and wouldn't mind coming here if we happen to stay at the Omni Shoreham again. Not worth an out of the way trip though. read more

The service, selection of food, atmosphere, and hospitality from the staff including the valet, wait staff, and management were just what I hoped for a small birthday gathering. The atmosphere and decor were beautiful and well decorated for the holiday season. I would definitely hold another gathering here in the future. Parking was also very easy and affordable at $10 with validation. There was also an area in the lobby where guest were able to cheer on their team for the World Cup which made the upscale atmosphere more down to earth. This place is *chefs kiss* perfect! read more

Our server asked if we needed a menu or if we were just going to self serve at the buffet. Ok, the breakfast buffet is all you want for 27! Including coffee, juice and tea. And they also have someone who makes fresh waffles, eggs, omelette in front of you! Awesome! Now dinner.... it's a bit quiet during dinner time but our server was so sweet and patient. I generally avoid hotel restaurants unless I'm stranded, but my dinner companion had mobility issues, so we decided to try Roberts (no apostrophe). They had a few historic dishes on the menu to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Omni Shoreham hotel. I asked the waiter about the texture of the rockfish with grilled peaches, and was disappointed that he couldn't describe it, but decided to order it anyway. He was, however, fully prepared to suggest a side since this was apparently also a 1930s portion. I learned later that rockfish refers to some 70 species of fish (fish are often renamed for marketing purposes, consider how dolphin fish became the more socially acceptable and exoticized mahi-mahi); so I could have been eating Pacific snapper, black bass, or a venomous fish from the Indo-Pacific. It had a medium firm texture with medium flakes, and a very mild, nutty flavor. There was half a stewed tomato and half a grilled peach on the plate, which complemented the fish quite nicely, and it took on a nice buttery flavor from a slab of pimento studded butter. My 21st century belly conceded to a side of roasted maitake mushrooms, which had a great, firm texture but would have benefitted from a bit more seasoning. There were very few people in the restaurant, but I noticed an army of about a dozen staff milling around by the entrance. Overall, a surprisingly good meal, but with all of the culinary adventures to be had in DC, more of a place of circumstance than a destination. read more

I've been coming to the Omni Shoreham for years attending primarily business meetings, regional and national conferences, and have always been awed by the incredible attention to detail, their focus on customer service and satisfaction, not to mention the magnificence of size and décor perfectly married to function and convenience. So it was not difficult to decide on this year's family and friends, eighteen of us, for our annual traditional Easter Brunch event being at the Roberts Restaurant at the Omni Shoreham with its rich track record of culinary quality and gastronomic heritage. Big mistake! It's extraordinary to me that not one person in our entourage was satisfied with the brunch. First of all, the online advertising as to what food, drinks and amenities were included for this special brunch was misleading. Secondly, the overall décor and set-up was lacking the festive Easter expectations (with the exception of a melting ice bunny). Thirdly, the spread was unbecoming a first rate hotel, let alone a bragged-about restaurant, with such historically positive reviews. And finally, the ill prepared staff, inexperienced servers and less than average wait service. I can only say that my first impression of seeing dead flowers at every table as far as the eye could see in this ballroom was eerie scene. Although the tables were nicely and correctly laid out, the culinary flatware, glassware and china were for naught as they were barely utilized. Water was served late, it and the optional champagne were served arms reaching over patrons faces, coffee never came until we were about to leave, dishes were seldom cleared when finished, attention to patron needs went unheeded, servers disappeared forever, and we were never told, they had no tables that would accommodate our large party! I will say, the food was, at its best, OK. Not what one would expect here. The Virginia Ham, the Beef Burgundy and the Crab Cake were the best to speak of unlike most everything else; we could have gone elsewhere and for a lot less money and inconvenience. The omelet station really bothered me because not only was it lacking in the expected additives, but the attendant did not speak, did not smile and seemed as if he was not interested in being there! The meat station was somewhat better, but fairly bare - very limited choice of cuts! If this is the best Roberts Restaurant and the Omni Shoreham can do - they have lost future patronage from eighteen folks (not to mention the negative word-of-mouth). read more

I had to cancel my reservation at Obelisk because my work party grew to more than six folks...ten to be exact. Roberts Restaurant was able to accommodate us with no problem. I read the reviews and was a little apprehensive. When we showed up, the place was largely empty which I thought to be a bad omen. All I have to say is that they pulled out the stops and really made our function very pleasant. The food was terrific as well. I agree with other Yelpers when they describe the concrete-like bread, but the olive oil dip was tasty. If there was one thing to improve, the bread is definitely that thing. We had a couple bottles of wine, which satisfied the table. (We were working, remember) I had the coffee/cocoa fillet. It was cooked perfectly and the crusting on the steak was fantastic. Hints of chocolate in the crust really made the meat taste wonderful. It was a new experience for me. I had mine with the garlic mashed potatoes which were served in a martini glass. Interesting choice of delivery medium. Not out of this world, but come on. Garlic mashed potatoes? Mmmmmm. I had the mango sorbet for dessert. Two HUGE scoops. I thought this was a bit too much for dessert. I only ate a little of my dessert. Others skipped dessert. Maybe cutting down on the portion size would be in order here. The sorbet was OK. Again, the wait staff was wonderful. I have no complaints about my experience here. Four stars. read more

Wow... from 5 stars to 1 star just like that. As I explained below, we started a new tradition a couple of years ago of going to the Omni for the Christmas Dinner buffet. We went this year as well, except for some reason, the buffet was gone and all we were left with was a really poor menu of unappetizing sounding food. We reserved our table through Open Table. I had the choice of a 3:30pm or 6:00pm reservation. Neither time was ideal, but we went with the 6:00pm. Now nowhere on Open Table, nor the Roberts Restaurant/Omni web site, nor any of the correspondence we received about the reservation did it ever say that by choosing the later time, we would be forgoing the buffet entirely, which apparently was shut down at 3:30 this year. This is just a terrible lack of communication on the restaurants part, which quite literally ruined our Christmas dinner. Instead of a buffet, they just had a menu where not a single item sounded good enough to stay there and eat. And giving there was not a single other person at the restaurant at that time, I don't think we were alone in thinking that. So we just left, and lucky the Irish Pub across the street was open, so we had an 'Irish' Christmas dinner there instead.
