Amazing dinner last night! We had reservations at 7:45 in continuing our 21st Anniversary celebration. We had a wonderful table inside and it was so nice. Our servers name was Andrew and he was very knowledgeable of the menu items and provided excellent service for us. We started with the Brussels Sprout appetizer. Crispy Brussel Sprouts-walnut vinaigrette, pine nuts, radish, big rock blue cheese. It was delicious and we didn't leave anything on the plate. My wife had the North African Chicken-harissa marinated half roasted Jidori chicken, warm couscous salad, roasted red bell peppers, wilted greens, pine nuts, orange zest pomegranate balsamic reduction. It was fantastic, juicy, and flavorful. I had a a tough time deciding on what to have because there were several interesting dishes to choose from. In the end I had Roghan Josh-north indian lamb curry, yogurt, tomatoes, green beans, almonds, fresh fruit chutney, cilantro-mint chutney, brown rice. It was Amazing!!! The flavors were just so interesting and the meal came with a homemade wheat Tortilla in the center of the plate. We paired our dinner with a bottle of Sea Smoke "Ten". I love this wine and was perfect for our selections. For desert, Andrew brought us the Trio, which was melon-mint sorbet, dark chocolate mousse, and orange-lavender crème brûlée. Again, flavors exploding with each bite. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinning experience at Robins and will definitely will be back again. Cambria, CA I can't wait to thank the gal at my local Trader Joes who referred me to this restaurant, she used to live in Cambria and her family used to own a restaurant in the area several years ago. We were greeted by the host, who was so nice. We loved talking to him, and only later found out he is the owner's son! We were running about 15 minutes after our reservation time, but he was so accommodating and made us feel right at home and so welcomed. After a long driving day, it was so nice to sit down and unwind in their space, we were so relaxed and loved our dining experience. The service was warm and attentive even though it was the end of the night. We actually loved our dining experience so much that we visited twice while in the area, once for dinner and once for take out on our way out of town. When we dined in we received excellent service and we were seated in the charming garden patio. The restaurant building itself is lovely and rustic, it almost has an old European vibe to it with rustic wood accents, stained glass. Take out service was a delight, because the owner assisted me and her attention to detail made me realize why the restaurant is run so well. Even though the kitchen staff passed my order through the take out window to the owner, she still double checked it as my order was similar to another order with a few modifications. I loved her attention to detail. Robin's menu is a collaboration of International recipes, some of which are from Chefs at the three restaurants in this group, two of which are in San Luis Obispo: Luna Red and Novo. Robin's has been in Cambria for many years I believe, and is well know for their fresh and flavorful food. Some items we tried were: 5 stars Salted Golden and Red Beet Salad, with goat cheese, pistachios, Arugula and Vinaigrette. This is one of the best appetizer/salads we remember having in some time. Our server explained how the whole beets are place up to the stem with salt and then baked. Surprisingly the beets are not salty, but they take on a beautiful flavor from the cooking process. 5 stars Crispy Calamari with Gluten Free Flour. Served on a bed of shredded cabbage with a sesame dressing. Generous serving of both parts of the calamari (tentacles and tube), so incredibly tasty and perfectly cooked, fried but not greasy at all. One of the best I've tried. 4.75 stars Indian style Lamb curry over brown rice. We found out this is a recipe of the owners ex husband, and a favorite at the restaurant. My husband ordered this dish and really enjoyed it. On both visits we really wanted to try the carrot cake, but we were full and in retrospect should have just pulled the trigger. Their desserts are house made, and the couple dining next to us seemed to really enjoy the carrot cake. While I was placing a to go order, another lady was ordering a slice of carrot cake to go. I would love to visit the other restaurants they own in San Luis Obispo as well. The owner tells me the Calamari at Novo is also excellent, and maybe even a tad more preferred by her but prepared with a different batter and sauces. read more

Excellent food in an inviting beautiful outdoor patio dining setting, with great service. We walked in on a weekday evening and got seated in about 20 minutes. Good menu selections and something dir everyone. We had the skirt steak which came with mashed potatoes and baby bok Choy. Very good. We also had an Indian type dish with a lamb stew and chutney and sauces on the side with some naan bread. Also very good. One of our dining companions had the buttermilk chicken which he enjoyed. We also had desserts. The sampler plate which included crème brûlée, chocolate cake and sorbet was probably the biggest and best deal. Visited for the first time yesterday and I'd say it was ok and would probably give it a 3 1/2. I ordered the enchiladas and those were excellent but beans were cold and rice was ok. My daughter and husband had the burger and they both said it was extremely dry and not too flavorful. We sat on the patio and it was hard to eat due to all the flies. We had to cover our food just to enjoy the meal. Never really had that large amount of flies at outdoor dining, so that was annoying. Not sure if we'd be back but it was nice ambiance and the service was just ok. read more

Had lunch here today. We've eaten here a couple times before. Always a great overall experience. Today was no exception. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. Chicken club sandwich, short rib bulgogi bowl, pasta, and carrot cake for dessert. All excellent. Service was also top notch. We were seated outside. The place looks like a beautiful garden. My friend had her wedding here recently and it was gorgeous. They really set up the outside for the ceremony and the reception. It was very intimate and cozy. I loved all the lights in the garden, and the staff was so friendly here! The venue was super cute and the portions were huge for the wedding. It's such a cute venue in Cambria! My friend ate here right after she got engaged so there's a lot of sentiments at this venue. Food came super quick and we had the opportunity to try some pizza and brussel sprouts. Loved it! Several people highly recommended this restaurant, but we were perplexed by the mediocre food. We ordered the braised short ribs ($44) and Robin's chow with prawns ($32) entrees, and both were on par with quick-service fast food restaurants, not what we expected for a nice sit-down restaurant and for the price. Okay we tired this establishment this evening, and at first it started out not too great. One of our entrées didn't come out to our expectations. And the waitress immediately took care of our problem and one of the managers JAI came out and brought us the the second entrée which was superb!!! And also the beet salad appetizer that was forgotten.. All in all we were not charged for the beet salad appetizer and a whole new entrée was made and brought out to us asap... Food was all amazing, we also enjoyed the vegetarian lasagna which was so delicious. We also enjoyed (2) capacinios, and a slice of thier lime pie that was amazing. A four this time as service was kind of lacking. We waited quite awhile for the host to come and greet us. I actually had to hunt someone down to get service. He was just standing in the waitress station chatting. We always visit Robin's when we are in town. We enjoy sitting in the beautiful gardens as we dine. We came for the salmon bisque and parmesan garlic bread and of course a glass of local wine. The soup was full of chunks of salmon. The food was delicious and very satisfying. Our server never checked on us after our food was delivered to us. Making it hard to order anything else or ask a question. We had to ask for our check. The gal clearing tables and refilling waters was the highlight of service. We will definitely return as we love the food and the variety that they offer. read more

Nice warm and homey ambiance, but the mushroom soup wasn't creamy enough nor flavorful enough to cost $11.00. The salad was as big as my fist in size... super small and cost $16.00, which should have been much larger. The server was speedy and kind. Kick it up a notch owner! Robins has a beautiful garden and the food is delicious. The only drawback is that several times we have gotten there at 2:40-2:45. They "officially close at 3:00 pm". They already had the closed sign out!!! This happened today, on Friday, Mothers Day weekend! A business should abide by the hours they post. They should not close just because the help wants a break!! Several other people were turned away also! Very frustrating. read more

All I can do is base my review on the experience I have. I will preface this by saying that I think only one server may have been working the whole restaurant or at least it seemed like it. First off, beautiful location and building. I love the ambiance and decór. We had a 6:15pm reservation, the restaurant called and bumped it to 6:30pm. We got there at 6:30pm and we're told our table wasn't ready. Waited another 15 minutes before being seated. Not sure if it was the only "large" table but the place wasn't really full at that time. I think it took maybe 5-10 minutes to have our server come by with menus. We were told the specials and got our drinks in. We placed the order in for appetizers and for entrees at the same time. The entrees came out relatively quick but the entrees took a long time. We had been at the restaurant over an hour before they finally came to our table and could easily tell that some plates had been sitting for a while waiting on other dishes, more below. Overall service was lackluster, we never got asked how everything was, never got asked for refills or if we needed anything else and really didn't see our server except at the start, when food was dropped off and at check out. Spring rolls and garlic Parmesan bread- the spring rolls may have been the best thing I ate all night. Crispy, full of flavor but a tad oily. Overall a great appetizer. The garlic bread wasn't anything special. Bread with cheese on it. Solid but nothing to rave about. Salmon bisque- good bisque. Not great but had good flavor and the chunks of salmon are nice. Wish there was more depth of flavor but a good dish nonetheless. Short rib- very very disappointing. My plate was cold. Carrots over cooked and one piece just had a burnt hard tip. The mashed potatoes were fine but if you've eaten cold ones you know it's not a good texture not feel in your mouth. They were dry and just thick, primarily due to them being cold. The short rib itself was also cold. Tender but over cooked. If you know meat, once it start getting cold it starts getting tough and this fell apart while eating dry. I think largely in part from being cold. They had radishes and/or apple slices that made little sense to me. Finally, I didn't have my friend's steak but he sent it back because it was not cuttable even with a steak knife. The New York strip was primarily fat and just rough to look at. We were really excited to come, drove 90 minutes to visit mother in law and try this highly recommended place only to pay way too much for cold food, bad service and a front of the house that didn't seem to care you were there. Again seemed like there were no other people taking orders. Plenty of busers rushing to get your dishes out ASAP too. Side note, this is very unpleasant. As soon as they see you take the last bite they're on you to get rid of your plates as if they can't wait to get you out the door, ironic given that the food took so long. read more

I know this is a popular restaurant in the Cambria area but we were disappointed by Robin's. My flat iron steak came out well done (I requested medium rare), and my husband's pork chop was dry (the waiter claimed it was very moist when we ordered). Also a strange thing happened when we sat down where the waiter took my husband's wine order and offered to let him taste. And then he left and didn't even ask me what I'd like. When he returned, he and my husband talked again and he went back and got him another taste of a different wine. When he returned, my husband ordered the second wine and the waiter was about to leave AGAIN until I said, "could I please order a drink too?" And when I asked to taste something he said that he'd already broken the rules and offered two tastings when only 1 is allowed per table. So I just went with the wine (I requested a low sulfite, dry wine and the one he recommended was not that at all) and was pretty disappointed. Not as we had hoped. They ran out of the tofu used in their Khow Suey Burmese Curry and the substitute failed flavor adsorption resulting in hospital bland taste. The Southern Spiced Chicken was awful. It was a flavorless sauce topped with cayenne that was supposedly risotto and not a spec of andouille. We also had a pork chop that was properly brined, fully moist and properly seasoned. However, it was served after everyone was finished eating. They were kind enough to comp it. The vegetarian lasagna lacked any depth of flavor. Now for the good...Compliments galore on the Roghan Josh and the Flat Iron Steak was also delicious. The Thai Green Chicken was decent, but the hit was the Salmon Bisque. Service was excellent, but the kitchen gets a C-. Robin's is a lovely place with beautiful outdoor seating in a wonderful patio filled with plants and flowers. The service at Robin's is great. You will have to wait, it can get crowded and I don't know if they take reservations for small groups. A server will be with you straight away and get a drink order. They have a good wine selection, a lot of it local and you will love it. All of their food is super. Whenever we are there we must have the salmon bisque, served with a garlic bread that is ever so yummy. They also have plank salmon and we love that for dinner. They have great fish tacos and if you want a great meat try their short ribs. You will be glad you did. Have the best time in Cambria. read more
