So much so that I decided to book a lunch after my child's communion for about 15 people...Well 4 days before, i call to confirm and don't get an answer back. Well i'm also told we don't get to choose the menu because "what if THESE PEOPLE come in and order lunch specials and water. it's not worth our time to keep the reservation" im little taken back. what if 12 individual people come in and ordered the lunch menu? guess my business isn't good enough since their social media rebrand. This roadside Italian eatery was recommended highly by a lot of my friends, Saturday around 3 PM. There was a decent crowd. We had a very funny, friendly, big man waiter take our order which took forever probably around 25 minutes, the food was good and then our waiter disappeared. We looked for him for about another 25 minutes to get the check, nowhere to be found finally flagged down one of the managers although Yelp states they take credit cards, it's CASH ONLY and every time I see a restaurant that does not take credit cards, That's always a red flag. This gem is my parents favorite restaurant. Whenever they want to gather all their children and grandchildren, this is THE "chosen" one. That alone speaks volumes. Add to it, the delicious food with friendly service, good portions, weekly specials, reasonable prices and it's a total win! We came for lunch & were greeted by such friendly and attentive wait staff, we loved the way the restaurant was set up & the atmosphere. We ordered a limoncello & an Aperol Spritz. They were perfect! We started with Baked Clams, Caesar Salad & Fried Calamari. The clams were delicious & the sauce was phenomenal, the Caesar Salad may be one of my favorites with freshly grated Cheese on top, & the calamari were so crispy. We also ordered Penne Vodka with chicken Cutlet & a Special they had which was beef short rib over fettuccine. The vodka sauce was delicious & the chicken cutlet nice and crispy. Always the same, excellent food, service, value. the pork chop martini is still top notch. However, the pork chop martini was served with roasted potatoes instead of the dice potatoes that normally come with it. I prefer the dice potatoes, especially since these roasted potatoes were undercooked. next time I will ask for the dice potatoes. Been dying to come here since I follow their instagram. We just rarely have cash and it's not a big deal to go to an ATM but eh lol. Anyway when my cousins asked about gift cards for Christmas I was like Robkes! That way we had no excuses and could finally go. We sat in their outdoor thing, food was delicious and it was well worth our drive over to the area. Calamari was seriously one of the best I've ever had. Went to Robke's for lunch today based off a recommendation and man was it good. Very authentic Italian food and the lunch prices are unbeatable for the portion sizes you get. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes when we got there but we were seating in the heated outdoor tent and our server was very nice. The food was delicious, especially the mozzarella. We were not disappointed whatsoever. They make an amazing appetizer , Capellini Cakes - you MUST try these ! Soft centers, and perfectly fried . This was everyone's favorite at the table. For my main course, I tried their special combo: Sliced Steak with Eggplant Rollatini . The steak was so perfectly tender, and the spices they used for the rub, amazing! Now that you understand why Robke's is 5-stars, I'll talk about the other dishes. The grilled eggplant appetizer is delicious, with a soft buttery consistency. (The spicy shrimp is a tough act to follow)! Chicken grilled to perfection over creamy penne ala vodka is outstanding & well portioned. Chicken cutlet over mac & cheese is so good it's basically food porn. The bacon burger comes with a "side" of HUGE onion rings large enough to require its own plate. They're crispy on the outside & smooth on the inside. Robke's has a very nicely stocked bar (with plenty of my beloved Casamigos Tequila). It really pains me to keep updating this once stellar review. Anyone who knows my family knows how much we have adored robkes through the years. Unfortunately, every time I come back here it seems to get more disappointing. Let's start with the atmosphere. As summertime frequenters, a winter visit is usually uncommon for us. I don't think I would come here in the winter ever again. We waited nearly an entire hour in the doorway only to be ferociously shivering at our table right by the door. If you have been to robkes before, you know they maximize their space to the limit. Not only was I freezing at my table, I was also constantly being hit from the back by other customers waiting to be seated. Perhaps it's time for a rearranging? And on top of all of that, it was unbelievably loud, way too loud to enjoy a conversation. Onto the food. After an hour-long wait to be seated came yet another hour-long wait for the food. Never once was bread brought to the table nor were waters refilled. Only upon request were these accommodations met. When the food finally did come, I could not have been more disappointed. The chop chop has always been my go-to order; what I received was not the chop chop I remember and love--it was a poor excuse for it (for lack of better words). It was unbelievably dry and as you can see from the pictures, had no sauce even puddling at the bottom. I mentioned to our waiter that my meal was quite dry and he took it back to the kitchen for more sauce to be added. When it was brought back--though it looked better--it tasted extremely different. The sauce almost mirrored a water-diluted red. I insisted that my brother, who also ordered the chop chop, try my dish and tell me if it tasted different from his. He was shocked to say the least and he agreed that it tasted red. There was no doubt a difference between our two chop chops. Likewise to my last update, the downward progression of the pictures speak for themselves. By parallel, the food has also seemingly lost its flare. I once called this restaurant "my favorite place on long island" but that is just a distant memory now. read more

I met a friend here for dinner after hearing great things about the food. Pros: Great food, great service, upbeat and friendly atmosphere. Staff kept us updated regarding when our table would be ready. Our waiter, Mike, was excellent. The menu is select and varied. Everything was well prepared and delicious. Cons: Waited 45-50 minutes for a table in the bar area which is overcrowded, overheated and under ventilated. If one person is sick in that place, every person is exposed. Tables are close together, staff is bumping your chair as they pass, and you have to move if someone at a nearby table needs to leave their seat. The place is unbelievably noisy. I'm all for "eat, drink and be merry", but my waiter shouldn't have to lean in close to hear or speak to me. I couldn't hear the conversation at my own table and nearby patrons were close to shouting to hear themselves above the din. I wish I enjoyed the experience more. read more

The first time we came here during the weekend in between lunch and dinner. Everything was seriously perfection! The Roman artichoke oreganata was chef's kiss perfect and I am so happy I made the right choice! They are really tender small artichoke hearts savoury and lemony so so so good! My daughter's Pasta E Fagioli was the most delicious one I ever tasted. It had a mixture of two different types of pastas! I like mixing different kinds of pastas in my dishes as well. My husband had the roast port ossobucco and it looked really good to me. He stated that is was decent. My gnocchi with burrata was very worth ordering delicious and cooked to perfection. The second time we visited we ordered an eggplant rollatini special but were not too pleased since it was doused in balsamic or vinegar taste and we couldn't taste the delicate favor of the ricotta filling. I've been ordering take out for years from them. Been dining in for 2 years since moving to Suffolk. They're so stinkin good. I absolutely love spicy food, this place isn't spicy, but it's still so good (and if you know me (spice is life) . I can't sing their praises enough. From drinks to food to dessert. Tonight I tried Robkes.. and yes I've heard of the name so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Starting off, the portions are extremely generous and did not disappoint. I got multiple apps (rice balls, calamari, & Caesar salad with chicken cutlet) for my entree I tried the steak over Mac and cheese. The apps were all so delicious and not to mention, the steak basically melted in your mouth. Deff my new favorite spot... Quality! That's what I think of when I come here. This is one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island. Each time I come here, it is more and more delicious. My most recent visit was on par with every visit before, might even be the best! Everything you order here will be top notch. This time around, we went with the kids, and while this is a family friendly establishment, it is also a nice place for adult time too. Two pro tips: 1) BRING CASH... Cash only people! Believe me, it is worth every single dollar bill and penny. 2) ALWAYS check the board for specials! Those specials are there for a reason! If something stand out at you, GET IT! Who knows when it might be there again! (And that's if they still have it) This time around we ordered the following: -Burrata and Hot Sopressata -Artichoke Salad -Capellini Cakes (A favorite for the kids) -Spicy Meatballs (weren't that spicy but still delicious) -Eggplant Rollitini -Bronx Chicken Parm -Side of Mac and Cheese** **Their Mac and Cheese is my absolute favorite of ALL TIME. Received my entree and another guests entree at least 15 minutes after the rest of the table. Didn't even get to finish our meals when were asked to leave. I asked when I made the reservation (in person), if I could bring a cake. They said of course but there will be a cutting fee and I agreed. Had to pack up the cake and send my guests home without sharing it. I was so embarrassed. They should be also because they did not make it clear that we were limited to 1-1/2 hour With drinks then apps and lunch for 14 of us. Best restaurant experience in years, maybe ever. I travel extensively for work and consider myself somewhat of a foodie. This place exceeded all expectations! I sat at the bar and ordered a dirty martini that was excellent. I told the gentleman next to me that I was only in town for 2 days and asked what seafood I should try. He told me to try the stuffed flounder. Turns out his brother in law bought this place around 1976 and he gave me an extensive history of the place. He ordered upside down chicken Parmesan which has 3 chicken breast fillets, and he offered me one. I graciously accepted and it was incredible. Best I've had and I hope my friend that owns the most iconic Italian restaurant in Kc doesn't see this. I didn't get a picture but it was perfection. The stuffed flounder was even better. Crab and shrimp was the stuffing. I got to meet the owner and have a nice conversation. If you've made it this far, go to Robkes. Drive however far and thank me later. I wasn't a fan of the food at all. Service was okay, the fresh bread was actually very good but my meal was incredibly unenjoyable. They undercooked the pasta so much it was almost crunchy. I was pretty suprised to get served pasta like this and glad I got cutlets in it so I was able to eat the chicken. I wouldn't recommend. I was very disappointed with it. read more
