Multiple Nursing staff members are Rude and Disrespectful... and also...not only neglected my family member when oxygen was dangerously low...Twice,.. But Scolded my family member for having the runs or crying.. as well...caught them in the act ....more than once! Tried taking concerns to upper management..Administration ..& VP...they primarily side with their Dishonest Rude staff... PRIOR to reviewing the camera footage of what REALLY took place during any incident!! The Management allow the poor staff those .bad apples...to remain on the floor! My review is regarding the nursing home care where my sister is a resident. She has extremely limited mobility. It seems the more help she needs, the worse her care gets. She is told she does not try hard enough, that she should be able to do things which she physically cannot do. There are a few good aides, but more often than not she finds their attitude inappropriate. As is the case in many of these situations, if she complains she fears retribution from the staff. It is the direct care part of this place that is lacking compassion and concern for the residents.

My husband was assessed and accepted for the enhanced level of assistance at Maiden Park by social…read moreworker Stephanie McLaughlin, who witnessed the exact level of assistance he would need to use the Apex. Within days of being moved to Maiden Park, my husband suffered verbal abuse as well as physically rough treatment from several aides on the overnight shift who would not assist him with the Apex, telling him that they had bad backs, they didn't know how he got accepted for residence in the first place, it was ridiculous that they had to do this, that he needed to do all of the work himself and that they were not familiar with the Apex and he would have to tell them what they needed to do. When they did finally lift him, my husband repeatedly told them to put him in his wheelchair instead of the recliner in his room. They refused to do what he asked and put him in the recliner anyway, causing him further distress and making it almost impossible to lift him again. Upon discussing this with Jennifer Gilboe the next day she informed us that, after checking with administration, Maiden Park's policy for Enhanced Assisted Living is a light one-hand assist, not nearly the assistance that McLaughlin witnessed during her assessment or the implied level that I was led to believe during conversations with salesperson Kayla Gaiennie. The next day Sarah Marcello told me that my husband was beyond the care level that the facility could provide. She said that administration would not hold us to the agreement made for admission. My husband was sent to emergency and admitted to the hospital. When the social worker from the hospital contacted Maiden Park, Gilboe described the enhanced level of assistance as a LIGHT one-hand assist with an Apex and a two-hand assist WITHOUT the Apex. The social worker asked Gilboe twice to clarify the two-hand assist and she replied again, it is a two-hand assist WITHOUT the Apex. The social worker expressed concern for my husband's safety at Maiden Park, especially since some of the people who would be doing the two-hand assist, with no equipment, had made it clear that they have bad backs and that they did not have to perform at the level he needed. In the meantime, Gilboe and McLaughlin set up an assessment at the hospital. During an email exchange between Ryan and Marcello, Marcello noted that she had no knowledge of the assessment appointment and that she could not be present at the assessment. It should not have been set and that the information she had received from the hospital about my husband's condition did not come close to Maiden Park's required level of admittance. Later that afternoon, McLaughlin contacted the social worker at the hospital and said that the assessment was cancelled. The administrator sent us a reply after getting all the above information, and them some, stating that "their internal investigation" said that "all the allegations were unsubstantiated" BUT they had terminated an employee who said that my husband belonged in a nursing home and that he never should have been accepted at Maiden Park. We are curious how an employee was terminated for making the remarks listed but the internal investigation found all the allegations unsubstantiated. I was also told by a former employee, who left of their own accord, that the staff regularly comments that they don't know how new residents get accepted and complain about the level of care they need to provide them relative to their job description. Between the one-time "registration fee" and the amount of rent that we were denied back, we are out about $8,000. We are working with the local Eldercare Agency to see what else can be done to warn people about Maiden Park. We are also posting this review everywhere we can. My husband moved to another facility just two minutes down the road from Maiden Park and the difference is astounding. The staff, the care and the atmosphere is 100% better. I know that most of the reviews here are glowing, but in the few days my husband was there we saw a totally different picture.

When my mom passed away two years ago, this community of friends was the saving grace for my dad. His new friends were there to support him and keep him busy. We now have to work around HIS schedule to spend time with him! Before they moved to Chapel Oaks, we worried about them being in their home alone and vulnerable. There are serious problems with a lack of personnel. Thinking that 50% of the residents seeing a…read moredoctor who is given the ability to practice there isn't undue influence is not correct. Just the accessibility is enough to cause that influence. My mother saw that GP for less than a year and went to the wrong hospital as a result suffering more. Her oncologist was at a different hospital and that "primary" care doctor practicing at St John's does not see patients at Highland. GPs have no real privileges at hospitals anymore so silly to suggest Highland at all. Don't get fooled thinking you are getting the best medical care when you are usually seeing a PA. GP missed a serious lymphoma so no my mom could not go to skilled nursing like a fellow resident of resident screamed at me about. People in independent living at St John's can't get nutritional information about their food. My mother with limited mobility and a precancerous condition of unknown significance for 4 years before moving in didn't need to gain 35 lbs. Now she's dead less than a year of being at St John's. The personnel are very inconsistent and treated a grieving daughter abysmally. There are some good personnel there and I'm grateful for them but from the VP down they certainly don't know how to gain good will. My mom was upset she was at Highland the rare time she could speak coherently, and I had to tell her it wasn't my idea. I had nothing to do with her decision picking St John's that led to the primary doctor with "fake privileges" at Highland.
