This place will rob you blind. They will add little fees and charges to your service and not tell you until it's time to pay, so I recommend asking "how much?" with each step or request. Each provider works very differently, but generally good work is done. However, if there's an issue, good luck trying to get your money back or a discount. I decided to give this place another try after going somewhere else for a while and safe to say I will not be coming back. They would not do regular polish french tips on my toes, and wanted to charge me $25 extra to do no chip French tips, which is honestly ridiculous in my opinion. They explained why they don't do it (it chips easier and people get mad), but if a customer understands the risks, why not just do it for them? The entire reason I wanted regular polish was because it stays on my toes forever, I don't need no chip on my toes. Additionally, the whole reason I went to get a pedicure was for French tips, so the pedicure just felt like a waste of time and money. I also got French tips acrylics and from a far they look ok but the more you look at them they are wonky. I asked for an almond shape and they look more round. The tip of the French tip didn't line up with the tip of my nail. I got these done to go on vacation, it was a special treat for me to splurge on this and I walked out so disappointed. read more

Then they cut my cuticle so bad i was bleeding and still am for an hour after the service. My left hand ring finger. I am pretty sure i am going to get proposed to soon so this is even more upsetting. The least they could have done is taken off the charge for the nails because it was horrendous. Oh yes and they didn't have the chrome I wanted when redoing the horrendous nails, and still charged me for it! Oh but they took of 20%! so disgusting. Good service would be giving me them for free or giving me a free voucher for next time. I've been a loyal customer of this salon for over five years and have never once had a reason to complain--until today. I had the most unprofessional and upsetting waxing experience I've ever encountered. I had a whole face waxing done, and it was a miserable experience. The wax "technician" (Sophia) yelled at me when I politely asked if she had gotten a specific area of my face. She snapped, "DON'T WORRY I'LL DO IT ALL!" in a raised voice, which made me so uncomfortable I stayed silent the rest of the appointment. When I got to my car and checked the results, I was shocked to find that she had completely missed large areas--both sides of my face, including my sideburns. I went back in to show the staff, and they were visibly surprised and agreed that it had been done poorly. Thankfully, a kind and meticulous older technician fixed what Sophia had left unfinished. Waxing is a very personal ordeal and the person who is being waxed should be able to ask questions and give input, as it is THEIR FACE that is being worked on. The fact she was soooooo annoyed with a simple question was disturbing. The room was completely silent after she yelled at me (I am a 38 year old woman!) and my skin felt like it was crawling. The fact she did such a poor job was the cherry on top and proves my instincts were right. I let the front desk know how unacceptable it was to be screamed at and poorly treated, and I was told they would inform the manager. If the owner had been present (as he usually is), I know this situation would've been handled immediately. This is not how you treat a long-time client--or anyone. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so no one else is treated this way. Update: The salon reached out in response to this review and informed me that the technician in question has had her waxing privileges revoked. While I appreciate that action was taken, they offered me only 30% off a future service--as if I'd want to return to a place where I was treated with such discomfort and disrespect. That kind of "resolution" is not only insufficient, it's presumptuous. My experience was not a minor inconvenience--it was degrading, and a thirty percent future discount cannot undo that. I'm leaving this review up because others deserve to know how this business handles serious concerns. If they decide to offer a resolution that reflects genuine accountability, I'll be open to updating again. read more

I had to actually pull my foot away and tell her not to hurt me. Her response was to grab my foot and put it back and said "don't move". She made me bleed and seemed like it was my fault. I'll come back here, but never book with her again. She ended my pedicure and started on a woman next to me and the woman was also asking her not to be so rough as well. The Manager needs to work on his customer service and attitude when things go wrong on their behalf. I got a full set/Gel X one week ago. After 4 days, they started to pop off. I went in on Tuesday or Wednesday to get the 2 nails replaced/repaired and ended up getting a pedicure (aka spent more money). 2 more nails from the original set popped off yesterday and today. Clearly the issue is with the nail tech's technique...I called, and they offered to fix those 2 nails, ignoring the fact that I had 6 more nails from the original set that would most likely pop off. I then requested a refund because I typically go to Kiara Nails anyway (except the parking sucks right now due to construction). I don't have time for nail repairs. After much debate, I was offered for them to do my nails over as long as I choose the same polish. Not understanding why I would change polish after one week...anywho, I arrived and was treated like I was the problem. This is my favorite nail place in the area. I usually get a fill and no chip mani; when it's time a no chip pedi. I love the way my girl shapes my nails and the polish is always cleanly done. She also willing to do the designs I ask for (I'm pretty basic but I always leave loving my nails). This place can be expensive but let me tell you they are worth it. They do have what I consider apprentices working (at the same price) so I would recommend asking for someone who can do the design if you want something specific. I live in the neighborhood and have gone to this nail shop three times. My first visit I chose a lavender matte job that turned out not so great however I decided to go back and give them another shot. I was glad I did because every visit afterwards has been better. I've done regular manis, a signature pedi (which I recommend) and most recently got a full acrylic gel set for a vacation to Florida. I chose a bright coral color from DND #652 called Lychee Peachy and loved it! Their color selection is insane. There's a lot to choose from. I wouldn't rate them at the top for detailed nail art as there is a place in Skokie I go to but they are good with doing solid colors. Their gel acrylics held up well the entire trip and lasted days after. Two weeks later they grew out. I loved my nail job and wasn't ready to part ways. I kept them a couple weeks more and returned to do a fill. The fills last an extra week or two. This time Tom did my fill and he did an amazing job! If you're lucky enough to get him, I highly recommend his work. He thinned out the initial gel application and shaped my nails with precision. There have been 4 times when I had flawless nails and this most recent visit was definitely up there. Rock Star Nails Evanston gets busy, especially on weekends, so don't expect to have the same nail tech every time. I'd still come here because of its convenience, there's free decent parking in their lot and its one of the few places where you're offered a complementary non-alcoholic drink with your service. I love getting their refreshing cherry slushies from their slushy machine and the ambiance is super posh. If you want to treat yourself, this is the place to be. read more

Yeah there's a slushy machine, it's a pretty location and it is spacey. The nail techs are friendly enough but not enough to keep customers coming back. I've been in for about four sessions, and with the same tech, Holly. She does a mediocre job applying acrylics and is good at basic line work design. Anything harder than line work, instead of declining to do the design she huffs and puffs and starts pretending she doesn't understand what I'm asking. It's made me feel uncomfortable because it's very simple what I ask. I am very patient, I ask questions--I like to be on the same page and was looking to keep coming back so it was important to me to build a relationship with respect and kindness. Two days ago I came in for a fill. Less than 24 hours, a nail broke because of how thin it was--I didn't even notice it falling off. I called to come in the next day to get it fixed assuming it would be complimentary as no ones nail should break the next day unless you slam them in a door but no! They charged me $5. It's not about the money but the principle--I felt very disappointed and robbed by this experience. Literally the worst nail salon I've ever been too. The worst service I've ever received and the most disrespected I've been in my life at a nail salon. The initial shape I received I didn't like and I asked for it to be fixed prior to the tech applying acrylic which wasn't done. I then asked for a change again and was told it was be additional money. I said I wouldn't pay additional pay given their error. I was then GRABBED by the owner and told he would fix my nails which he then proceeded to cut off my hand and told me "get out congratulations you got free nails." He then told the other workers not to talk to me because that would pollute the air. Afterward the owner refused to hear my feedback and lied and said I refused to pay knowing that he made me leave. Truly a disgusting establishment with disgusting employees. I will be reporting this business beyond this review. The gentlemen that run this establishment do not deserve a business with the level of "customer service" provided. I have never been made to feel this way at a nail salon before and I will never recommend any patron this business. This may not have happened to you YET but the day will come because a business owner with such disregard will continue to behave this way. Disgusted. Would NEVER recommend. Upon entering, I was asked to fill out a survey and pick a color from a massive wall of nail polishes for regular services. I was immediately seated and my water was already waiting for me. I was seated an appropriate distance from others due to COVID-19. All of the tools for the pedicure were new, and came in a package so I definitely felt safe. Vincent is definitely sweet and he took very good care of me. He made sure I was cared for and made great conversation. In the midst of my Pedicure I was brought hot green tea like I requested on my questionnaire form. The main reason this place gets a 5-star is because they took their darn time! Despite how busy it was, my service was not at the convenience of them to make money. If every salon could do that, that'd be amazing. My manicure was the same. I should have told the manager when I checked out, but I felt bad for the older woman who did my nails, as she was sitting a few feet away. I don't think she had been trained in how to give a manicure. She filed the edges of my nails after the polish was on, which caused the polish to be scraped off. I spent $38 for this. I am so happy with the Classic Manicure that I received here today! My nails have been a mess since I peeled off my last no-chip myself. Decided to get them taken care of and get a regular manicure today. The place was packed being a Saturday, but the manager quickly greeted me and directed me to the polish on the wall. By the time I chose it, he had a seat ready where he soaked the remaining polish off. He did that part, then a technician came over to do the usual filing, trimming, etc. Just as she finished that, he sent her off to start a pedicure and he sat down to apply the polish! I tried this salon the other day for the first time. It was close to wear i was going after, so it was mostly about convenience. The atmosphere was very nice, clean, and busy. I was offered a seat quickly and brought a beverage of my choice out of a fountain. A guy started out taking off my old no-chip and a woman finished up and painted my nails with a no-chip. I generally judge a no-chip set by how long it lasts. Mine generally lasts about 1-2 weeks. I don't work with my hands or do manual labor (so that wouldn't affect them). Third, my mother was settling into the chair for her service, put one foot in, and THEN was instructed to remove her foot so they could do her wax first?! Why not just wait? I had a manicure too, instructed the lady two times not to cut my nails and just file. However, she took it upon herself to cut my nails, and when I told her again, she said, "I thought you wanted them square?" Again, these are my nails, please do as I ask. My mother and I voiced our concerns to the person checking us out, and all she could say was, "Oh, that will be $53." My mother and I drove from the Southern suburbs, because we moved and missed the service. That trip was a waste of time and money.
