Booked a reservation well in advance since I knew my girlfriend and I were coming on a Saturday over Valentine's Day. The ambiance was nice, and the food was decent. Our server was attentive at first, but after receiving the charcuterie board and shifting into dinner, he didn't touch the table at all. We received our duck dish and were waiting for the other dish and side to come out, but luckily, my girlfriend insisted we eat. After finishing the duck dish and still waiting at least 30 minutes, I finally stopped our waiter to bring it up and ask for the check. All he said was it was coming, but we still just wanted the check. Not sure if the kitchen timing was off since it was a weekend and Valentine's Day, but very disappointed with the service. It should also be noted that when we sat down, two tables next to us were finishing up. We ordered our food before the new customers arrived at those two tables. Both of those tables received full service, including dessert, before we were even checked on. We had a fabulous meal, savoring 4 dishes between the 2 of us, which was probably more than necessary but couldn't we resist the sweet and spicy pork ribs, duck lo mein, cauliflower and elote fritter. Because it was our anniversary, we were offered a complimentary dessert and although we were quite full, we made room for the banana bread pudding. And we started out the meal with the prickly pear margarita and the aun no muerto - both delicious! Being in our 70s, we didn't expect to be carded but it was a nice touch. There's a fairly large darkish area to the right when you walk in and a smaller "sunroom" to the right. Some people were also outside on the patio. - Menu: A good sized variety of "small plates" to share including fish, meat and vegetables. Note: They only give one printed copy for every 2 people. - Food: Creative, tasty and good portions. Phenomenal! They say the dishes are smaller portion/shareable and to order several but we didn't find that to be the case. The trout was a nice size portion and absolutely divine. It was thick and cooked & seasoned perfectly; a much better experience than the last couple places I ordered trout. The popcorn pumpkin puree and roasted turnips that came with it were also pure perfection. The sauce was so good i almost licked the bowl. Andy ordered the short rib rigatoni which was also super filling and flavorful. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes as we were stuffed from just those. Sego has got to be one of the upper-end dining destinations in the area. They've got a really interesting menu that has a strong pan-Asian influence (lo mein, satay, rendang) along with other culinary inspirations. I would characterize Sego as a small plates restaurant, where diners typically order 2-3 dishes apiece and share them at the table to create a family-style meal. The duck noodles were absolutely delicious---bits of succulent fowl with crispy skin still attached mixed with stir-fried vegetables and noodles. My major gripe would be some rather dopey servers, but this could be ameliorated with some better staff training, including better familiarization with the menu. read more

This place was amazing. Its attached to a hotel so its easy to miss. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by the nicest hostess. Recommend to call ahead as they take reservations. The place gets busy. We had the shrimp fried rice. It had a little kick to it but it was perfect. The brocollini as well had a small kick but was delish. The AZ Fillet was aamaaazzing, so much flavor and cooked perfectly. We had the bread pudding and pistachio ice cream with the pandan shortbread cookie and was also amazing. The only problem i had is there wasn't enough portion we ate everything till the last bite! Highly recommend. We will be coming here everytime we come to kanab!! read more

First off the food is amazing, the chef has curated a great menu with a lot of varied tastes. I usually eat here 3-4 times a year while visiting Kanab. That said the service was lacking enough that it makes me not want to return and explore other options in Kanab. I made a reservation for 5pm and noted it was for my wifes birthday. We were the first party seated, the only party there at 5. For some reason they stuck us this cramped corner table where you are at a 90 degree angle to the other person you are sitting at which makes conversation awkward. When I am sitting with someone either sit me next to them or across from them. Looking at an empty restaurant I made a light hearted comment to the waiter thinking she would offer to move me. Nope, she doubled down and said it was the best table in the restaurant, I could see everyone coming in. Unfortunately, the only person I wanted to see was my wife of 24 years, on as previously stated her birthday. We started with the charcuterie board which I would highly recommend, it is my favorite dish they serve, well thought out and the flavors balance beautifully. The waiter asked if we would like it served first separately which was appreciated. Unfortunately, it set a precedent for the rest of the meal. Each dish was fired and served separately (beet salad, ribs and foraged mushrooms). I can't imagine that it was the chef's desire when he designed the menu that each dish stand on its own instead of as a part of a meal of eclectic flavors that blend together. That is one of the benefits of serving food in a tapas style, you have a bite of this plate and a bite of that plate. Also, the choice of serving everything on its own put in some awkward pauses in the meal where there was no food and no server in sight. She was nice when she was there, it just wasn't very often. We decided to end the meal with the banana bread pudding which was fantastic. unfortunately, 30 seconds after one server dropped the desert our waiter showed up with the bill, giving the impression that she wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible. I really did not appreciate being rushed out the door. I have had several meals at Sego that were fabulous, this unfortunately was not one of them. read more

Glad we had a reservation as this place filled up very quickly. Dim lighting, fireplace and glass decor made for a fancy cozy ambiance. Servers were all very attentive and helpful. Restroom available around the staircase. Food - everything was so good!!! Felt like a fine dining experience. I like how they offer Half/Full sizes depending on how many you're sharing with. A place meant for sharing dishes. Satay - chicken skewers were juicy and I found myself not even needing sauce. Wok brocollini - reminds me of Chinese brocolli at dim sum restaurants but lots of flavor. The fermented beans were a nice tasty touch. Street style tofu - lots of very fresh bean spouts on top with a really delicious sauce. Tofu tasted fresh. Pork dan Dan noodles - personally my least favorite dish as the meat texture and taste was just odd to me. Honey agave ice cream came with a little purple cookie maybe a shortbread type. Small scoop for the price. Maybe because I ate the chocolate cake right before but I didn't really taste honey or agave and much just like a delicate sweet ice cream. It was tasty but wish it was a bit of a bigger scoop. It's a very small mini scoop size. Did not expect such a lovely fine-dining like experience in Kanab! Definitely would return. Server Sam ignored me for 15 minutes after I was seated, until I had to have words with two staff members to get a welcome/greeting and glass of water. Told Ciara and another staff member that refused to take my order when I told her I'd like to place an order before the table of 5 that walked in "after" me. Terrible situation. It was only then that I started to receive service. At $80-$100/person it shouldn't be this way. FOOD: Food is good; filet was terrific. When you spend your days on the trails covered in dust and dirt it's nice to clean up, get dressed and go somewhere nice. We were planning on cooking in the home we were staying in but decided last minute to go out instead. My daughter found Sego and it looked awesome but they had no reservations online. We decided to just head over and see if they had space. Luckily they were able to seat us at a table outside (and the weather was perfect for it) because inside was completely full! If the weather is nicer request a seat outdoors. The inside is beautiful but nothing beats eating under a sky full of stars. Most of the dishes are tapas style with a few exceptions. Our waitress was excellent and everything we ordered was delicious. Make sure you save room for dessert because the two we ordered were amazing! read more

Above and beyond the best meal we had in Kanab. Some thoughts / tips: - make a reservation. Avoid the wait. We checked in at the host stand and were promptly seated at a lovely patio table. We moved over to their fire pit for dessert -- how perfect in the crisp fall weather! - the menu is mostly small plates, meant to share. Our standouts: the foraged mushrooms with hen egg and espresso cheddar. It comes in a hot skillet with beautiful lion's mane mushrooms (and others). We promptly mixed the yolk and sopped up this dish. Absolutely fantastic. We also loved the cauliflower with the white bbq sauce. It was the perfect mix of spicy and tangy. We ordered the half-dessert of the flourless chocolate torte, which was just enough for two people to have a few bites of something sweet at the end of our meal. - cocktails are good but not great. I had the Aun no Muerto, a mezcal drink with blood orange syrup and liqueur. It was a bit too sweet for my palate. My colleague had The Wave (of course!) and liked it but didn't love it. - we had a bit of a misstep in service, where we were seated outside and then promptly forgotten for about 20 minutes. When we flagged to staff, they were very apologetic and overly-attentive, making sure we had fantastic service. For what it's worth, we'd also had two other meals in Kanab with similar service issues. As someone who's worked in restaurants before, I was understanding and patient (and hope you will be, too, if you're dining here!) and recognize that all restaurants are having a tough time these days. read more

Sego hits a bullseye on every point I can score a restaurant on. From our first moment entering the restaurant until we stepped through the door to leave, the staff were welcoming, fun, and a delight to talk to. Our server was perfectly attentive but never in the way, and was able to answer every question about the food, including telling us details about each dish. Each item was so good we were quickly reduced to nibbling and taking our time to try to discover which items were contributing to the delicious flavors. We've had great meals in many different restaurants in cities around the world, but Sego blew our minds and we will definitely return, even though it means redirecting our trips out of our way. I highly recommend finding time to stop and enjoy the ambiance and food at Sego. PS - The Banana Bread Pudding is to die for! read more

Food was excellent, but service was disappointing. Excellent items were Sego noodles and Rendang ayam. As someone used to eating authentic Indonesian food, I was amazed by how the chef nailed it. The noodles came out first and were practically inhaled. My dinner partner, a native Indonesian, praised both dishes. Toast was good and solid, but didn't have the addictive quality of the previous 2. Last in preference was chefs feature of surf and turf, which were braised beef ribs with fingerling potatoes. Maybe I'm not a fan of braised beef in general so I can't judge fairly, but I found it over-salted. Unfortunately I will not be back due to the service. Waiter took 10 minutes to take our order, food took 15 minutes to come out, and once we were done, it took another 20 minutes to complete the process of paying and waiting for to go boxes. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed. All in all the dinner was 1 hour and 15 minutes, which seemed unnecessarily long and full of waiting for the waitstaff. Maybe this is more normal in this small town, but it's hard to adjust for those used to a more efficient turnaround time. For those in no hurry, though, I'd recommend this place. WOW, I don't know why this restaurant does not have a 5.0 rating unless it's because of the decor which was easy to overlook after the first bite. We were blown away by everything we had from the Grilled Caesar, Artichoke Toast, Pork Belly w/ Watermelon, Duck Lo Mein Artichoke Toast, Foraged Mushrooms, Wok Tossed Broccolini & the Prickly Pear Margarita. After browsing Yelp, this seemed like the best place to eat in Kanab. Then our tour guide and another local confirmed that, so we had to try it. My husband and I shared: - Sego Mac - Scallops - Dan Dan Lo Mein - Charsiu - Artichoke & Foraged Mushroom Toast - Elote Fritters - "Grilled Cheese" - Likelike (mocktail) - Banana Bread Pudding This is the kind of restaurant I wouldn't expect to find in a small tourist town. It was an incredible meal. We ordered entirely too much food for two people, but we couldn't narrow it down any more. If I had to pick, I'd say my favorites were the Sego Mac, the Artichoke & Foraged Mushroom Toast, and the "Grilled Cheese". I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on the menu. The only thing I wouldn't get again is the scallops. They weren't bad, but they were a bit chewy (not as smooth as butter like I would want). We made a reservation for 5pm on a weekday. It was the only one left, but I don't think a reservation was necessary at that time since it was pretty empty. I would guess that's not the case later in the evening. Another "must return" place next time we fly back out to Utah. The service and great as well as great food. We loved their grilled cheese with lemon confit topped with crumble sage sausage. The dough that it is served on is so soft and fluffy. This was our favorite if the two small plates we started off with, followed by the artichoke and mushrooms toast was also very good. Diver scallops with cauliflower puree with mushrooms and smoked pecorino was very good, but we didn't fid much flavor in the cauliflower puree, which was a decent portion of the dish. It was a good dish, but not as flavorful as the Arizona beef filet which was amazing. Some of the potatoes seemed a bit overcooked, so some of the potatoes had the texture of leftover potatoes. Temperature was fine though. Strawberry shortcake (brown sugar strawberries and pound cake) with honey agave ice cream was a nice finish. Refreshing and not too sweet. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice dinner in the area. We will definitely be returning. I really admire the creativity in the dishes! read more

A local gem in Kanab with creative and diverse dishes! On our recent visit to Kanab Utah, this restaurant was highly recommended by the locals in the area. We were so glad to have given it a try as the experience really blew us away. Located inside the Canyons Boutique Hotel, this restaurant has limited indoor and outdoor sitting, and reservation is highly recommended. As for parking, on-street parking is readily available. The restaurant serves mostly American cuisine, but I found several dishes that originated from Asian and Mexican themes. The dishes are quite small for each entree, and our server recommended ordering 4-6 dishes to share among our group of three people. For our main dinner, we ordered Sego noodles, artichoke/mushroom toast, broccolini, elote fritters, and diver scallops. The elote fritters were super delicious with fried fritters filled with corn, and topped with aioli sauce. The artichoke/mushroom toast was another yummy treat with a good balance of cheese, artichoke, and mushroom. The Sego noodles tasted like a version of Singapore rice noodles, and it was very flavorful as well. For dessert, we had berry cheesecake and ice cream. The cheesecake was very light and an excellent way to end of the meal. As for prices, most dishes are very reasonable at about $15 per entree. Our waiter was extremely helpful with wonderful recommendations of suggested dishes. The ambiance of the restaurant felt classy and intimate, which will be a perfect place for dates or small gatherings. Highly recommend! A must-try in Kanab! read more

We are huge fans of wood ash Rye in St George and this is a similar type of meal yet my wife and I both agreed that the flavors and food quality are better!! Just try it all. I was impressed with how hard he was working AND he was very professional even when there was a long dinner line out the door with groups of people without reservations, including me . Anyways, we got seated outside, beautiful evening and delicious Gluten-free food. & I had no stomach issues after. Nice service from Alex and Derek(?) too. And before we got seated, we chilled by the firepit. How can anyone complain at a place like this? What a gem in Kanab! I will plan to come back here. Tysm! We came for Thanksgiving as a special treat for my mom. They sat us by the kitchen door that kept swinging open and closing. It made it difficult for her to hear and enjoy conversation. The cheese plate was hard cheese impossible to cut or eat. The biscuits were good but they didn't have any butter?!? The meal came out family style and was ice cold. The dessert was lack luster.
