Well, I stopped in at TLB across the street and figured I would check out Rockslide for brewery visit #226. It certainly seemed to be pretty popular on the restaurant side while the bar was fairly quiet. I sat at the bar and had a flight of four. Clara Mexican lager had the slightly skunky taste you expect from most. I prefer the slightly sweeter Mexican lagers but this was representative of the style. The Raspberry wheat was a good fruit beer. Light aroma and flavor without being overpoweringly sweet, Rabbit Ears amber ale was a decent amber all around. SWPFTD always likes the ales of color. Cold Shivers pale ale had a mild hop flavor and bitterness. It did hang on the back of my tongue for a bit for sure. I didn't have any food at Rockslide so I can't comment on that. The beers were good but none really stood out for me. We went on a Tuesday at 6:30 pm and there was a 20 minute wait for a table. As of 6/15 they are not seating at full capacity. We got seats at the bar as their happy hour ended and people left. 3-6pm they have beers for $1.50-3.50! No happy hour food menu. We had a flight of 4 beers for $5. The beer is quite tasty. We started with the chicken spring rolls served with a pineapple habanero sauce and a tomatillo sauce. AMAZING! The pulled pork sandwich is also very good and I'm in love with their sweet potato wedges. We had a side salad and fresh veggies too. There was one bartender and he was so efficient and kept our drinks full. I was very impressed with the food and beer quality. Prices are great. read more

Decided to try this spot because it was right by my hotel. Service was superb. Bartender was very friendly and helpful. Food was really good. I had the Florentine salmon with a Caesar salad. My friend and I eat lunch together every week at a restaurant in town. We decided to go to the Rock Slide today. While ordering the salad/sandwich combo, I asked for the mayo on the side, as I planned on taking the sandwich home and didn't want the bread to get soggy. At the end of the meal, the waiter took our cards and charged our meals (we were not given a ticket prior, to review). Upon review of the check, there was a $0.50 charge for the half-full 2oz cup of mayo. I questioned the waiter and he informed us that was common practice, and was not concerned about my inquiry. My friend had also asked for an extra side of the homemade mustard for her meal (she received two), but was not charged anything extra for that request, and both came in a 4 oz cup. Oh well, I paid the check...it was "only" $0.50, but it seemed very unnecessary and quite pricy for about 1 oz of mayo for a sandwich which should have had that amount of mayo on it in the first place! As we were heading out, I stopped and talked with the manager who mentioned that "costs have gone up" and that it is common practice to charge for items on the side. I explained I am familiar with cost increases and expect it to be reflected in the cost of the item ordered and/or listed on the menu as such. The idea of charging for a condiment on the side when it would not have been charged if it were placed directly on the item was unnecessary and poor customer service. The manager seemed quite flippant and unaffected by the conversation. All is good, there are numerous options in this town that provides a good service, good food, and cares for their customers! read more

The beers were good, the atmosphere was nice, but holy cow ... left there hungrier than I arrived - my portion was small, but my girl's entree was a joke. I had a steak that was probably 4 ounces (recommended by the server) and my girl had the Ahi Taco Bowl (no tortilla). She had about 1 oz of Ahi on about 3 ounces of cabbage ... nothing else. When I mentioned it to the server, he just sort of disappeared and dropped the check on the corner of the table as he ran by. Rockslide is a good solid brew pub. good food, good beer, OK service, OK atmosphere. It is a bit pricey, but some things on the menu are standouts. I really like their fish and chips made with salmon rather than the more common cod. However, the lobster roll we had a while back missed the mark, there was too little lobster, it was shredded rather than identifiable chunks, and the roll was not the classic lobster roll with a split top. We left wanting a REAL lobster roll. Still, the menu is large enough that even the fussiest diner can find soimething to enjoy. read more

We had a pretty good wait for a table, but in all fairness it was a Friday night. We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar and have a couple beers while we waited. The beer was okay, but nothing amazing. They are identified as a true independent brewery but this place had the vibe of one of those big chain "brew pubs". Maybe it wasn't, I can't confirm. The food was good, staff was friendly. My only gripe is some things could be cleaner. One time I drove in the car for about 12 hours and came to Grand Junction looking for something to make me feel alive again. I found that in the burnt ends Mac and cheese here at Rockslide Restaurant. We had a spectacular trip here. Again, that Mac and cheese did the heavy lifting in keeping me alive today. We also tried the cherry seltzer for the day and it was superb, had a really strong flavor, but not overpowering. We had fast and friendly service and enjoyed the aesthetic of this location. We were greeted with happy expectations. We were a huge group and the staff was not shy setting up a comfortable area. The food was hot. The hamburger perfectly cooked and not dry. Be sure to order the appetizer, Mesa Verde Rolls. The combination of favors topped off with the habenaro jelly is a palate experience. The service exceeded my expectation considering how large our group grew. They had earnest to do their best. This is a great example of a venue where the service clouds the food. Upon entering, the hostess was heck-bent on me, being single, to actually eat at the bar. I had to forcibly demand a bar table. The place was 1/2 full at the time. I ordered a club sandwich on a croissant. The croissant is a run of the mill store bought variety. This could have been something unique from a local bakery. But it was wonder bread with a croissant shape. The waiter, doubling up as the bartender, insisted on charging me .50 for a tiny thimble of mayonnaise. He was hard to converse with as Spanish was and is his first language. I'll bet that this wasn't the expensive, quality variety of mayonnaise made from avocados. I still can't believe it. Lettuce was soggy and wilted. French fries had mountains of salt glued to them. I think that this place, with a little work, could be a genuinely good restaurant. Instead, it's somewhat expensive, unpleasant and ordinary at best. I think that they're capitalizing on their booze / brewery offerings and the food is an after thought. This region of Colorado, in terms of food offerings, is still struggling. I would have given a 3.5 star rating if such was available. read more

Stopped for HHr during Thanksgiving Break and it was jam packed. With 20 mins remaining the waitress was efficient in getting our order in to reap the $3 draft and appetizers $5 for a giant, well crusted, barely salted pretzel with pillowy interior, $1 off all main menu appetizers. Although a huge fan of any coffee beer, this Seasonal Coffee IPA didn't have me amped. Barely tolerable pairing my daily bread, a light golden hue with light body, had the IPA signature bitter throughout, but mixed with coffee was sort of like sipping bitter, creamy coffee. Full-ish bar, no oranges for traditional Old Fashioned when ordered, but there are bitters in the house; passed this time, and note for us to stick to the grape & hop. The salad was black and slimy, had black lettuce and soggy crouton's legitimately nothing else; egg rolls looked like they were stuffed with wet dog food not cut but thrown in a plastic container covered with Grease. Came here for dinner with friends on a Friday evening. There was a little bti of a wait for the dining room so we opted to sit in the bar area at a high top. Decent selection of craft beers. I opted for the house pinot grigio wine which was ok. One friend got the american strong ale aptly named "whimpy" which was 7.8% ABV. For dinner, I chose the Bistro Tender (medium rare) with Roasted Garlic Parmesan Cream Sauce, which was accompanied with sauteed veggies and "red mashers". While the steak and sauce had a really good taste the overall dish was ruined as the veggies were cold, the red mash looked and tasted like it was hours old and being kept in a warmer. I also ordered the caesar salad, which was perhaps the worst caesar sald I've ever had. The lettuce pieces chosen should not have been put into any salad. My friend actually had the stem (or whatever it's called) in his salad - you know the part that should actually be cut off and thrown away. This place might have it right on the brewery side of the house, but they are missing the mark on the restaurant side of the house. Not sure I would return here. read more

This place is just ok to me. Friends and I came in here for dinner and beer. We had a burger, cuban and the rockslide dip. They were all very much average. The beer is super average as well. I've been in a few times to try a few and the only one I enjoy is the Raspberry wheat. I am usually an IPA/ale drinker but theirs just don't do it for me. Bartenders are chill and its a good spot to go if I am craving that one specific beer, but who knows- maybe I will give a salad or appetizer a try. read more
