After much thinking I at last decided that "Yes, I must get my naval repierced". With Rockstar's stellar five star ratings all over the place I had to go with them hands down. Rather than just drop-in I opted to call and make an appointment a few days in advance. I went with Saturday at 6:30 pm. Tonight I nervously made my way to the studio (I remembered it being much more painful and traumatic the first time). The staff was all very professional. The whole studio was also so incredibly sanitary, they go to just about every length they can to insure that all tools and jewelry are nothing less then top notch sterile. Kelly was my piercer, and she was great, she answered all my silly questions and made certain that this time my pierceing would come out straight....and just like I figured it was way better than I was imagining. I laid down, took a few deep breathes and it was done. The only down side was the parking situation but I knew that going in so to combat this issue I recommend showing up 10 minutes early. I have to highly recommend Rockstar's for all your piercing needs, they will take good care of you. read more

OMG. This place is amazing. The first thing you notice when walking in is how clean it is. My boyfriend and I both got a nose pierced and I also had my second hole redone. The guy at the front desk was so nice and helpful through out the whole process. Whenever the employees were dealing with a customer you can see how many times they switched their gloves. I had my helix done here, but I just recently had my nipples done as well. I could not have been happier with my experience. These piercers know what they're doing, they're extremely knowledgeable, and cautious as far as anatomy, jewelry, and what will work for your body. This place is so clean and professional! I tend to get nervous about piercings so it was exactly the comfort I needed. I got a nose ring and was kinda surprised by how large the hoop they gave me was, but they said that it was for any potential inflammation so I understood. Just know that you won't look exactly how you want to look right out the gate, but that that's okay! Aside from that, my experience was super positive and I definitely recommend coming here. (I will note that mine got infected, but that's totally normal because it's a nose lol. It completely cleared up within a week after I put diluted tea tree oil on it every night.) read more

If you're looking for clean, knowledgeable, friendly, professional body piercers, look no further. I gave them a call around 8:30pm, and spoke to their apprentice, Charlie. Super nice, well spoken and professional. Asked a few questions about hours, piercings, and prices. About 10 minutes after hanging up, I called back and asked if I could come in for 9, which they were happy to do. I walked in, and immediately was impressed not only by what my eyes were seeing, but also because they were listening to The Impossible Kid album by Aesop Rock (I love Aesop Rock). When you walk in, it's immaculate. Everything is clean, organized, and displayed beautifully. Charlie was as nice in person as he was on the phone. Talked to him for a bit about how I was wanting to relieve my nostril (this would be the third time) and have some history on when I got it the first and second time, what led to it closing, etc. After getting paperwork squared away I met Dustin, who was my piercer. He was also super friendly, welcoming, and professional. Upon telling him I'd had it pierced before, he informed me that if in the event that he could get the old pathway opened, it would only cost $10 opposed to the standard $45 for the piercing (the jewelry you choose will determine the additional cost). This I was not expecting to hear, so I was very pleasantly surprised that there was a chance it would cost me less. We go into the room, and the jewelry is being sterilized. He looks at my nose, the jewelry, and once the jewelry is ready, he begins. He explained everything super thoroughly before and as he did it, and fortunately for me he was able to get it opened back up so that only cost me $10. I was super impressed because they could have easily just charged the $45 plus jewelry, but they were honest and up front and did right by the customer. The initial hoop ended up looking a bit big, and because my nose wasn't swelling or bleeding or anything, we were able to determine that I could safely go down another hoop size and still have wiggle room for if swelling did occur later. So he switched out the original hoop for the smaller (after sanitizing it, of course). It looks awesome, and it didn't hurt. He was super gentle every step of the way, and I couldn't be happier with the experience and how it looks. Seriously- this is the only place in RI I'll go to now if I'm in the market for more piercings in the future, and these guys are who I'm recommending people to. I called today at 11:30 to make an appointment to get my nose pierced. They were able to get me at 1:00. When I walked in I was greeted right away. I was shown a bunch of jewelry that was the right size for my nose. I picked out a gold flat nose ring. Chad was going to go my piercing. He brought me in the room and was very friendly. He was telling me everything that he was going to do. He made sure that when he pierced my nose it was even and lined up so that I could change it out with a hoop. When he did the actual piercing it didn't hurt. He always went over aftercare instructions. I would definitely recommend people here. You may pay a bit more but it's worth it. Rockstar has experienced piercers that take the time to pierce properly. I first went to them about 6 years ago to have my rook pierced with a curved barbell, and was happy with their work. I eventually wanted to look into a piece of jewelry that would show the stones a little better, so I went back to them a few months ago and talk to them about what jewelry they recommended to accomplish this. After I described what I was looking for, they recommended that I purchase a J-curve ring. I went ahead and placed the special order through them and then had them change out my earring when it came in. Unfortunately, the J ring was not what I was looking for- it essentially is on a near 90° angle and juts out way too much. I was unable to sleep on that side because it was too painful to put any pressure on that ear. So I went back to them again, and explained what the issue was with the earring I purchased and asked them to help me order a piece of jewelry that was still on a gentle circular curve, but would allow the bottom stone to face forward. I had also purchased two new stones with the J curve earring, so I specifically requested to find a new earring that would be compatible with these stones (as I had already invested $80 in an earring that I wasn't able to wear). The guy behind the desk was very nice and tried to help me, but he was not a piercer and clearly had limited knowledge of the different options that were available. He initially told me that the stones I had already purchased would not be compatible with the forward facing earring that they were recommending, so I decided to hold off on purchasing it, rather than invest another $80 into an earring. Shortly after I left, the piercer Megan called me and informed me that they could order a forward-facing earring that would be compatible with my stones. I later returned to their store and placed the order for it. With the forward facing earring, the bottom stone would be fixed to the rod, and only the top stone would be detachable. The plan was to order that earring, and then use one of my current stones on the top. I again pointed out the style of the stones that I was wearing in my current rook piercing, and asked them to make sure that the forward facing stone in the new earring that I was ordering would match it. After the special order came in, I went back today to have them again change out my earring for the new piece of jewelry. I was very disappointed to see that the bottom stone did not match the stone from my previous earring. My top stone has an exposed setting so that the stone is visible and catches the light; the affixed bottom stone in the forward facing earring was surrounded by a metal setting so that the stone was barely visible. Clearly, this essentially left me with the same problem that I had in the first place, before purchasing two new pieces of jewelry for this piercing. I had already spent a lot of money in their store, made multiple trips to them, and had been very patient up to this point despite prior miscommunications- I was understandably frustrated. I will say that the piercer I worked with today, Dustin, was apologetic and understanding of why I was frustrated. He took the time to actually listen to what I was looking for. He identified the type of earring would match the stone I had and called the Anatometal jewelry company for me to check availability. Unfortunately, it was not available in the gauge my piercing needed. At that point, I decided not to pursue it any further and to just put my initial curved barbell back in and return the new earring to them. He and the store owner were accommodating enough to refund me the cost of the forward-facing earring, even though they typically do not refund deposits. In summary, for cleanliness, technique, and expertise- I would give Rockstar Piercing five stars. I am giving them a four-star review, because I do think they could improve their customer service relating to consultations and special-ordering jewelry. If you are like me and are not well-versed in the body jewelry world, you likely rely on the expertise of these piercers to help you identify what type of jewelry to purchase that accommodates the look you are trying to achieve. I don't plan on making new jewelry purchases for my rook piercing anytime soon, but if I do decide to pursue it again I will probably try consulting a different shop before shelling out any more money on special-order jewelry. read more

Whatever I'm going to say here about Rockstar Body Piercing isn't going to sound the least bit original and frankly this is a case in which you should consider that to be a good thing. This place is perfect. I decided to have my nose re-pierced Thursday after work and called to schedule an appointment. I was able to swing a 7 o'clock appointment with Jay. So, I scooped up my best friend and we mosied down to Rockstar to have him stick a needle through my left nostril. My first impression of the establishment was that it was super clean and the presentation of the various jewelry was well done. I am a sucker for good layouts, nice design, etc. etc. Let me go back to the cleanliness because that is such an obvious key component. It was clean. Immaculate. Smelled good. Looked good. I also want to mention that this was the best experience I have ever had with a piercer. It was just so... comfortable and nice. You know when you go on a date and it just goes really well? You feel really confident about it and when they say, "We should do this again sometime," you agree, and you really do mean it, you really do want to go on that second date. Jay was just a real, calm guy with a good attitude. He explained everything clearly and concisely. He changed his gloves up to five times, maybe more, I stopped taking notice, it seemed common place after awhile. I want to emphasize that it was a bizarrely zen experience, honestly, I felt like I had gone to a meditation class, not to a piercing shop. "Take a nice, slow, long deep breath in and release your breath just as slowly as you did when you inhaled..." and it was over. A squeeze and a pinch, the needle was in, the jewelry was slipped into place, and the needle was out. More clear and concise explanation given on how to tend to my piercing so as to have a successfully healed hole in my nose. It was great! Definitely planning to come back to have my second and third earlobe piercings. Highly recommended. read more

This is a personal review for Billy of Rock Star Piercing. I had the pleasure of meeting Billy at Fakir Musafar's Advanced Piercing Intensive in San Francisco, CA. I was there to be pierced as the school invites the public to receive supervised student piercings at an amazing price. Right off the bat I was impressed with Billy's bedside manor. Being that I was receiving an ear orbital piercing from him (which is considered a "tricky" piercing to do,) I was a bit nervous as to how it would turn out. He explained the process to me, and helped me choose optimal placement. Those that are familiar with this particular piercing know it is a bit intense (two actual piercings, one piece of jewelry.) Billy helped me remain calm and at ease throughout the process, and delivered an AMAZING piercing. It really is perfect and is probably my favorite piercing. After my orbital I had my nape pierced by a DIFFERENT piercer (NOT affiliated with Rock Star Piercing) and although the piercer was a really nice guy, I was unhappy with the end result. (Remember, this was a piercing school, and the students were there to learn.) Billy took notice of my distress and offered to re-pierce my nape for me. This was super cool of him because my nape was not his problem (He had been assigned to do my orbit, not my nape.) My neck was VERY red and swollen from the previous piercing, and was probably not easy to work with. Billy, being the master piercer that he is, executed a PERFECT, symmetrical, and lovely nape piercing. I also have to mention that the piercing that he gave me was LESS uncomfortable than the first one even though I was tender, and swollen. Bottom line: Billy of Rock Star Piercing is indeed a rock star! I really wish he was in San Francisco. Many years ago, my ex took me to get my lip pierced by his friend at some podunk place in Mass. What a mistake that was. He marked my lip where I'd wanted it and pierced it at least a half an inch from that spot. I could see him panic and try to hide it from me. Whatever, it was a lip piercing, I could live with it. A few days went by and my lip was hugely swollen, so I decided to go to Rockstar and ask for help, as they'd been so helpful in the past. They were astonished. The stud in my lip was so short it was literally crushing my lip, causing it to swell and pretty much be disgusting. They took it out and replaced it with a reasonable stud and were so apologetic and mortified that someone in their field had done this to me., even though they had nothing to do with it. They didn't charge me for the their time, resources, etc. Just the list price of the new stud. I have long since moved from Providence and long since removed my facial piercings, but I still travel back home to Rhode Island to buy my plugs. I'll put it right out there. I've known Billy Wood for a long time; probably 10 years at least. Which is precisely why this shop gets a five star rating. Friendship aside: They are thorough and knowledgable about their craft and jewelry. Clean, friendly, accommodating - if they don't have exactly what you want, they will order it for you. Now about Billy... I'm a bartender, and have been for longer than I care to admit. This is how I came to know Billy. When he is your patron, he can be... LOUD. BOISTEROUS. I heard someone once say he was a troublemaker, but I've never seen him cause any trouble. These qualities are what I've known about Billy for these ten years. When I heard through the grapevine that he was starting to pierce - maybe 6-7 years ago? - I thought, wow. Really? Okay, well, good for him, that's great, wish him the best. What I experienced when I went to Billy for a nipple piercing - yeah, nearly the most intimate piercing you can get - was my dear friend being the utmost professional. Honest. Clear. Kind. His voice was so soothing, I was blown away. I will admit, what I love so much about my experience at Rockstar, and why I won't get pierced by anyone else in Providence, is the dichotomy of Billy Wood. I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic Rockstar is. I've gotten four piercings from Jef Saunders, who is a god damn G, and every time the experience has been wonderful. Most of my placements were pretty tricky and took a lot of time to get right (most notably the microdermals beneath my clavicles, which Jef and Billy marked and re-marked for at least 25 minutes), but Jef was always patient, thorough, and able to place the jewelry perfectly. Everyone at Rockstar is not just skilled, but also incredibly personable. There's no elitist attitude or atmosphere at all; everyone is super friendly and helpful. This is one of the reasons I'll only get pierced here, even though I'm in NYC now. I wait until I'm back in the Providence area visiting friends to get any work done. I've been to a couple of shops in NYC with very skilled artists, but I've never experienced the friendly atmosphere that exists at Rockstar. The shop is beautiful, the jewelry is the highest quality in the industry, the location is prime, and the piercers are fab. I've had plenty of piercings done at Rockstar, and I've always had a positive experience! Its always clean, and the staff is always super kind and professional. The cute little blonde girl at the desk was so helpful when I was picking out my jewelry, and I ended up with something super cute within my price range. Went in to Rock Star last night to get my nose pierced and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a safe, sane environment to tackle some body art in. I decided to go with Rock Star after researching area piercing places and this one had the most consistently positive reviews I could find. I'm so glad I went here instead of popping into a closer place and just hoping they'd do a good job. Jason was calm, informed, professional and an all around soothing person to work with. When you're about to trust someone to put a needle in you, it's nice for them to have a peaceful presence and not make you jumpy at inopportune times. Make an appointment ahead of time, show up a half hour early, get a nice spot- there's no parking lot and Thayer rarely has open spots so be prepared to walk a bit. I'd also advise getting something to eat before you go in- an empty stomach doesn't make for a good piercing experience. I had a couple slices from Nice Slice (immediately downstairs from the shop) and took a short walk before my appointment, leaving me feeling less anxious and ready to get some new metal. I've had my fair share of rebellious moments throughout life, more like years, but who's counting? After dealing with the repercussions, including infection and keloids after getting an industrial piercing at age sixteen in the back of my 2001 Ford Escape, I smartened my ass up and waited until I turned eighteen to try piercings again. This time I wanted to be as safe, clean and careful as possible. I'm 23 now, and over the years I've cycled through probably eight piercings, all done at Rockstar. A few facial, ears and unmentionable piercings later, I will never go anywhere else, or trust a shop as much as I do with Rockstar. With each visit the staff always extensively talk through the procedure and aftercare, starting at the front desk while you're filling out paperwork, and ending after your piercing is complete. It doesn't matter if you're a veteran body modification collector, or it's your first time, being walked through the steps and receiving information right up front is not only useful, it's extremely professional. As far as the actual procedures go, each piercer I've had goes slowly, changes gloves, will make you sit on the table for a few minutes to go over the aftercare process again, and make sure you're okay after getting poked. I've only been to the Thayer St. location, which is always kept sparkling clean and tidy. As far as I know, they are the only shop in Rhode Island that carries a wide variety of BVLA jewelery, one of the most sought after, high quality jewelry brand. I picked up a rose gold septum ring a few months ago, and it's probably the prettiest thing I own. One of my favorite things Rockstar does is providing information over the phone after your appointment if anything funky starts to happen, or you're just curious about jewelry change times or cleaning procedures. They do walk-ins, but scheduled appointments take precedence, so waiting time depends. Thanks for being the best, Rockstar. read more

Very professional and sterile. I wanted a nape piercing, so I made an appointment and Jef did the piercing for me. He is very relaxed and precise, explained each step to me as he went along, and before I knew it I was good to go! I made an appointment for another one a few months later, but someone else pierced me and, unfortunately, it didn't line up with my first piercing. Once I realized this, I went back in to talk to Jef. He agreed that it was crooked to the first one, took it out, made an appointment for 4 days later, and re-pierced it. It came out great. Lining up nape piercings is tricky business, so I didn't blame them for that little mishap. Plus, they were so great about fixing it up for me! This place is unbelievable. I remember the first time I stepped in four years ago and I couldn't get over how clean it was. I still can't get over it, but I did get over the monroe piercing they put in me. I got rid of it, and they took it out for me free of charge. They also do piercings so well that you can RECOGNIZE a Rockstar job. I'm serious. I also still buy my 5/8" plugs from here (when they inevitably get lost), and they have a really beautiful selection.
