I liked the digital menus and the variety of items you could order. Practically everything on the menu included a picture of it when you clicked on it which is a nice inclusion. I ordered a specialty "drink of the day" for $9, and it was alright. The $5 happy hour raspberry martini was much better and practically 2-for-1 over the other. Lesson learned! I ordered the sticky chicken which is served with rice and kimchi. It was really good, definitely worth ordering. I ordered the fish and chips entree but it was disappointing...the fish was so greasy I ended up not eating it. Beware! Overall it was a fun environment with decent food and drinks, and good service. Food was expensive but gross. I do not recommend the blackened chicken tacos AT ALL. It's like they took naturally flavored food and stuck it in a machine to make negative flavor. Sat on the Republic side of the restaurant, and it was bright and comfortable. The bartender/server was very accommodating and knowledgeable. We got their in time for their drink happy hour that lasts through 7pm. Ordered an old fashioned, and later took advantage of the bartender's expertise and he made a great whiskey sour. Ordered a sushi roll for an app. (Such a unique place for this bar and grill to have sushi, but they know how to make a roll.) The roll had fried shrimp inside and topped with a sriracha mayo minced onion sauce on top. The sauce was a bit too much in quantity but overall the roll was tasty. My friend enjoyed her burger where you have a choice of a brioche, pretzel, or regular bun. The burger was huge with 2 think patties. I loved the chicken wrap. Very good food. The sticky chicken appetizer is very good but we enjoyed the lettuce wraps almost more. Both are excellent. We had the waygu beef tortilla salad, the daily polenta, the sloppy joe and the banh mi. All were very good but the banh mi was magic! The flavors melded together perfectly. Wow! Talk about afternoon delight! Totally impressed with this spot, you may be thrown off by the neighborhood but I like it because it has character (and characters) parking wasn't so bad, I saw a parking garage right behind the restaurant. It's a little tight but you go at the right time you'll have you're space. They have an upstairs and patio for the warm nights, no need to dress your best, just wear clothes and shower and you'll feel relaxed. Now the food...OMG! We weren't expecting the food to be so GOOD! They have a Bloody Mary bar on Saturday and Sunday for brunch...awesome! I had the mimosa with orange juice...awesome! The brunch presentation was outstanding! The mimosa was standard, and the mimosa bar was just average but still a good price. We all shared the salmon crab fritters and tuna roll for $7 each. There were three fritters that were pretty dense, the sushi came with five pieces. Overall the shared plates were decent, but kind of pricey for $7. I ordered he chorizo breakfast burrito which was $9 and huge! It was rolled in a flour tortilla and covered in a spicy sauce. It had a good flavor but some of the beans inside were undercooked. My family ordered the salmon and spinach Benedict, and the steak Benedict. It was on top of one slice of brioche and just ok. The bread was soggy from the sauce. Been here twice now, once for late night and the other on Valentine's Day. This place has a great sushi selection and the sticky chicken is amazing. The beer cheese dip is outstanding as well if you're looking for an appetizer. The server was attentive and on top of things the whole night as well. We walked in around 130pm on a Saturday for brunch. We were not greeted for probably 5-8 minutes. It was enough time for 3 parties to come in behind us. When the host returned to the stand she walked up and stared at us, waiting for us to speak. We told her party of 2 and she showed us to a table upstairs. The table was so sticky that when you picked your phone up off of it, it made a sticky noise like it didn't want to come off. There were 3 tables surrounding us and all were dirty. The server was very friendly but after a trip to the very disappointing and empty Bloody Mary bar we decided to have brunch someplace else. But, I am disappointed that Patatas Bravas, on the menu as "crispy sweet potato wedges, chili spice, birds eye chili and peanut aioli" are now just a basket of run of the mill sweet potato waffle fries and a ramekin of sauce that came with a skin on top like it had been sitting around way too long. This place has a lot going for it! It's in a pretty central area around quite a few other bars/taverns so it's a great place to start your night, which is what my friends and I did! It was a Saturday night and we went into the Rockwell side around 10pm as a group of five to celebrate a birthday and we were seated immediately. It's got a very relaxed and trendy vibe to it that is great for catching up with friends, although it can get a little loud at times. I thought it was great that their menu was on a tablet, and you could click on each menu item to get a better description of the item as well as a picture of it and the price. We were lucky enough to arrive at the start of their happy hour, so there were a bunch of food options for just $7 each! They also have a drink happy hour during the week, but not on weekends. We ended up ordering two mojitos, one pomegranate and another coconut-lime. I ordered the pomegranate one and I really enjoyed it! The coconut-lime on the other hand was just too sweet and tasted very artificial to me. Luckily my friend who ordered it really liked it, so it must just be a personal taste factor. Someone else at the table ordered a Moscow Mule and it was FABULOUS! So good - if I'm in the area again, that would be my drink of choice. The other two in our group just ordered some whiskey. Food wise, we ordered a shrimp and ahí roll, a spicy salmon roll, a sweet potato roll, some sticky chicken, and some fried brussel sprouts. All the food was delicious, but also nothing special - it was well-made sushi, but it didn't wow any of us. The sweet potato roll was by far our least favorite, and the sticky chicken and shrimp and ahi roll were our favorites. All of it was off of the $7 happy hour menu so it ended up being a pretty affordable night out there. I would definitely recommend for small groups/pairs and I think it might be best to order lots for the table and a split since there are so many tasty items on the menu! read more

When I'm hungry but can't pinpoint exactly what I'm in the mood for, I head to Rockwell Republic. Why? Because you can get just about everything! Sushi - check. Tacos - check. Burger - check. Steak - check. This could signal generally good but nothing special food, but Rockwell executes well and consistently. My favorites in no particular order include: Chili Pork Tacos - Corn tortillas and shredded braised pork. The crema it comes with is great! - Sticky Chicken - This is basically a rice bowl with fried chicken pieces in a sweet chili sauce and kimchi. For whatever reason, it's on the shareable/appetizer section. Though, it can definitely stand alone as an entree. Tip - Ask for the rice and kimchi on the side. The chicken can get a bit too saucy at times. - Fried Brussels Sprouts - Thai or Vietnamese style - Nice change to roasted sprouts, and I love the Asian twist. Hot Chicken Sandwich - Super crunchy, not too spicy. Great balance. Crispy Salmon Roll - I just love all the tempura crunch that comes with it. Hot Chicken n Waffles - Tempura waffle?! Come on. Great take on the classic. BBQ Pull Pork Sandwich - Though the coleslaw just about hides all the pulled pork from view, there's a good amount pork and the flavors come meld together very well. Now, I usually go to the Republic side (right entrance) because it's not as busy. It also has jazz on Mondays, which is a lovely way to kick off the week. Drinks were good. Ambience is nice. Unfortunately I had ordered a steak which was not cooked correctly. It was too pink for me to be able to eat it, so we had asked for them to cook it more. It took thirty minutes for it to come back out, still not cooked correctly (they didn't even ask after it was brought out), and by that time the table was done eating. I would have expected to have the meal taken care of off the bill, but was only offered a limited percent off the bill. The server was wonderful and apologized immensely, but the cooks and manager disappointed us. read more

The food is really good. We have always had a good experience. But today was not so good. Our family of 5 called asking how busy it was outside if there was a wait. We were told that it would be a 10 minute wait but probably sooner once we got there. So we drove out there and said we'd like to be seated outside for 5. Well, the hostess stated that it's against their "policy". That must be very new because last summer it was not that case. It's frustrating because we told them on the phone there was 5 and they didn't say anything about that being an issue (must of been two different people?) well we asked if we could just sit at two different tables. And THAT was against their policy! So we wanted to just speak with the manager just because on the phone there was no issue. And the manager explained why we it was against their policy. Apparently it would make to hot up there? But the kicker was he stated "splitting up a group into two tables waste space for potential customers" I guess they thought we just wanted to go upstairs and sit and not order. It was turning into too big of an issue. So we left. Apparently they didn't want our business. Don't think we'll be going there again. An outstanding gastropub in the downtown GR area. Located south of Fulton on Division, there's a convenient parking ramp just behind the building (and they do validate during lunch.) This place is not at all pretentious, but rather a relaxed and hip gastropub with a great American and Asian fusion menu. Ambiance is great and the service is always on-point. Dinner here never disappoints. The filet tournedos is one of my favorite entrees, but they have much more than steak to choose from. The sushi is quite good and they have an excellent drink menu. Lunch is similarly good. I had lunch here recently with some friends and can say the appetizers are phenomenal and the burgers easily rival those at Stella's or any other pub in town. Kinda stingy but hey, it's a happy hour deal. Ok. First glass of wine was horrible. Called Butter and something... blech! And I'm pretty easy to please. Waitress replaced it without hesitation. Opted to try house- had a taste and it was just fine. I had the perch dinner and my friend had the salmon. Salmon was spot on! Tender with a nice sear, buttery inside... perch was just meh. The fry seemed to get mushy too fast. Too greasy. Okay, it's fried - what to expect? Still, you know what I mean. The hostess and waitress were delightful. We had a reasonable dinner here, but nothing was all that impressive. My meal was better than what my wife ordered. I got the Panko Crusted Walleye, and found it to be unique but tasty. My wife got a steak, but we both agreed that it wasn't all that great. My wife did enjoy the sushi she ordered, and wished she ordered another plate of sushi instead of the steak. The steak was overpriced at around $30 for what it was, but prices of other dishes were reasonable. The soda tasted a little off when we visited, but we did enjoy our meal here otherwise. read more
