Don't normally do 5 stars because something has to not be up to par right? Wrong! I'm giving 5 stars to the Rockwood team. Immediately upon walking in we were greeted warmly by the host and offered to sit at a table. Tempting but the beautiful copper bar immediately grabbed our attention and we were pulled right in! Two male bartenders were working I can't remember the names but they were very attentive and greeted us immediately one of them recommended the bull run mule and I dare say it was the best drink I've had in awhile it's a strawberry and jalapeño ginger beer mix who would've thought?! Continuing onto dinner I ordered the penne pasta with chicken and shrimp and it was delicious I wish I had gotten a picture but it smelled too good I just had to dive right in another great recommendation by the bartender! To make it even more amazing the manager for the night walked by and asked how we were enjoying everything! A+ for checking on us! All in all besides the food and drinks which were spectacular the service was amazing as well! I felt right at home and super comfortable. We have only had their Sunday brunch. The Sunday brunch has a good variety of different dishes to chose from. They have an omelet station, fruits, pancakes, waffles, meats and potatoes. They also have a nice dessert section that are bite size portions which is great for when you're stuff from the other food. I have been to Rockwood twice. The first visit was for sunday football and I sat at the bar. The bartender was pleasant and very professional. I only ordered drinks during this visit. The second visit I went with a friend on a Thursday night. We ordered the chicken slider appetizer, which was horrible. There was a tiny nugget size piece of chicken hiding under the slider bun and a pickle on top. It was just sad that they even served that to someone. I told our waiter and he spoke to the manager which he said was the owners son. Anyway the waiter came back apologized and said that the manager had this problem with an order earlier being served to a customer and they were not sure why this keeps happening. The waiter asked if we would like the food replaced we said no but he brought out more sliders anyways that had the correct size chicken on the bun this time. So I rate it a 3 because they corrected the issues quickly and it really has a nice ambiance and atmosphere to the place. Maybe next time they will serve some amazing food??? read more

I've come here a few times now because I wanted to get a feel for the place. Anytime a restaurant opens I know that there are some kinks to work out. It's definitely a place to watch a game and maybe don't come for a first date (ladies, you will have a tough time having him focus on convo) There are TV's everywhere which is great if you're trying to keep up with the game. My last time here we came before a concert at Jiffy Lube and we brought some friends. We stuck to appetizers and it was more than enough. Everything was delicious! We got their souther fried chicken sliders, mac n cheese, shrimp bruno, truffle meatballs, Jalapeno applewood deviled eggs and the angus beef sliders. HOMERUN! Our friends loved everything and we were stuffed and ready to get our country music on! The customer service was great too. My boyfriend and I were out in the Haymarket area today around lunch time. With no idea where to eat we went online to our trusted Yelp site for dining suggestions. We came upon Rockwood Sports Bar. After parosing the menu ( which was quite varied ) we decided to give it a try. Immediately upon entering the restaurant I realized that this was not just your average sports bar. The atmosphere was stylishly rustic with an actual living wall!!! There was plenty of comfortable seating and the bathrooms were tastefully decorated and very clean. Our waitress Miriam was fantastic! She was so personable and did not hover over us while we ate. The appetizers and main courses arrived in a timely manner and were quite tasty! The prices appeared to be quite reasonable. I would highly suggest all you Yelpers out there give Rockwood a try when next you find yourselves in the Haymarket/Gainesville neighborhood! read more

My wife and I had dinner on Wednesday evening. We both ordered variations of the table-side Italian cheese wheel pasta (mine spaghetti with chicken and her the standard penne). It was delicious! Salads were good too. Garlic bread was just average. We both had iced tea and it was very good also. We saw several other things on the menu we'd like to try so we will visit again. I think the prices were a tad above average for the Gainesville/Haymarket area, but not unreasonable. Plenty of parking. Although they have televisions around, the place was relatively quiet. No kids running around while we were there. I hear they have live entertainment on weekends too. We think you should try it! read more

I'll start by saying, I understand this was Rockwood's first weekend opening. I went in knowing service might not be the best and that they would likely be working out some kinks. But hey it was prom weekend and they didn't have a wait so we figured we would try them out. I'll also note we were not a large party, 2 adults 2 kids. Upon arrival we are told that the menu is limited and none of the sandwiches are available. We order our drinks, they come out relatively quickly. Then we order our food. 2 burgers, kids mac and cheese, and kids boneless wings. Then we wait, and wait, and wait. The waitress comes over 3 times in the 45 minutes that we waited for our food, lets us know it's coming and there has been a kitchen rush. Ok fine, new place it happens. Then we start seeing families that were sat after we placed our food order, getting their meals. By then I have 2 hungry children and a grumpy husband. I flag the waitress down and ask her to please bring our check. A few moments later the manager came over and apologized profusely. He offers to box up our food and comp the entire check. He promised it would be boxed up and ready to go in 5 minutes. I thought this was a very generous offer. I would have been more than happy to pay for the food. But yet again, it never arrived. We waited 15 additional minutes before finally giving up to go to Mods. In all fairness I can't comment on the quality of the food. Everything looked and smelled delicious. I can say that our service was terrible. They did try to make it right, but not really since their solution to the problem never arrived. Hopefully in time they will work out their kinks. If not they won't last long in Gainesville with so many other options to choose from. read more

Had a great lunch at Rockwood's yesterday. The food and service were excellent. I lunched with 10 other people and we all enjoyed our meals. I had the chicken wrap sandwich and it was delicious. The curled fries were large and very tasty. I had tried this restaurant pre-pandemic and it was just ok. I don't know if they have new management or a new chef. I do know that it has hugely improved. First impression, the floor plan was nice and it was clean. I liked the outdoor seating area and the indoor tables with the view of outside. Service was good. Looking at the menu, I was excited because everything seemed as though it would be great to try. I ordered the ribeye. Boy was I disappointed. It tasted as though everything was charred, but no actual flavor to the meat or vegetables outside of that. A1 helped a little. The fish was a little burnt on the outside flavor wise, but was gooey on the inside. The fries and gouda potatoes were good. Overall, I guess if you're drinking, the taste may not matter. read more

Can i give 6 stars? Went in for brunch and even though the place was packed, the staff were all smiles :) TH=he hostess told us it would be an hour wait for a table on Sunday (brunch 11a-3pm). That was too long so we found room at the bar, and the bartenders Diddy and Jessica were amazing - Great specials on mimosas, Great sight lines of all the TVs. Been here multiple times. Love it. First time I had visited during Covid. Food was good, service was good. I did not realize until after reusable menus had been given to us that QR codes were available to use (we would have preferred that). They were never offered or pointed out. Watched a guy sit at one of the tables set flush to the bar then proceed to turn and sit bar top, which has been banned during Covid. Bartender put his app plates and silver, drink, etc, on the bar top instead of enforcing the mandate and serving him tableside. Entire point of the mandate is to keep people from eating/drinking/talking over the top of the bar and spreading germs onto glassware/fruit/beer taps/etc. I work in a bar myself, and I find this extremely alarming that someone would A) flaunt the mandate and B) risk everyone's health. read more

Just wonderful! We have visited several times now and each time was 100% perfect! From the service to the food and the drinks, everything is all that we could ever ask in a dining experience. The ambiance is a mixture of fun and fancy and the menu offers many different choices - my favorite HAS to be the ribs! The appetizers are super filling and large enough to be a meal on their own. The service is second to none and the owner/head chef even came to greet us and say "hello." My wife and I had been looking forward to eating here. We attempted to once before but the wait was nearly 2 hours (thats a good sign of a great place to eat!) back during the NFL playoffs. This past Saturday we showed up at 12:30p and the place was very light. No wait at all. Seated immediately but it was 15 minutes before our waiter arrived. If it were busy I would have been a bit more understanding. The majority of the staff was at the kitchen window, and would walk past us without any acknowledgement. Finally our waiter appears, takes our order and off she goes. She only came back to give us the bill. We had a very nice gentleman stop in and apologize and offer to help us. When we left we thanked him personally. The food. Eh. Wasnt bad by any stretch. Fries were great. But i think the service turned us off and tainted the food. read more

First time trying Rockwood. Ordered deviled eggs. They had clearly been pre-made stored in the back of a fridge. They were dry, so overly seasoned with garlic, and stiff. Have never had a bad deviled egg before tonight. For dinner I ordered the the salad that comes with steak. The server did not asked how I wanted my steak cooked. Clearly it was because the steak was pre-made as well. It arrived on top of a nice looking salad. The steak was rare, and cold. Must have been stored next to the deviled eggs. The dressing was nothing more than mayo. The interior was very nice, so go for a beer and to watch a game. Just make sure you eat before you go. read more

My wife and I dropped in on a Sunday for lunch. Not being very hungry and just looking to share something we quickly found we were at the wrong place for that. They had a decent crowd but not busy. The restaurant had a nice look (It was a remodeled Ruby Tuesday's ) and the staff was efficient. They had a Sunday buffet, however, not being very hungry I was not going to pay $30 (per person) for a buffet. The menu is extremely limited and my wife settled on a chicken sandwich to share. It arrived cut in half and served on two plates with French fries for each. The sandwich was very good! It was expensive at $14.00. We recently had a rehearsal dinner at Rockwood and it could not have been better! The manager, Carlos, and Chef Danny were wonderful to work with. They helped us create a superb menu from passed appetizers to dinner to dessert. Our guests could not stop raving about the food. The service was just as outstanding. The bartenders and servers were so attentive, cheerful, accomodating, and wonderful with our children. I highly recommend this establishment if you are planning an event, or if you just want a delicious meal. Wish I could give it more stars! read more

We were on our way back to NOVA and Decided to stop for dinner since it was our anniversary. We got seated quickly, but from that point on our service was less than mediocre. Our server was slow greeting us, slow getting our waters, and slow taking our order. This probably took 15 min. Then My husband and 5 yr old then played 8-10 games of tic-tac-toe. Then we played Connect Four . We played games for about 40 min. At no point did the server or manager come and say there was a problem w our food. Our server came out at about an hr into waiting and said our food will be out in a minute........I truly believe she forgot to put our order in as it doesn't take that long to cook piggies in a blanket, shrimp, or salmon. Came here for a quick after work meet up with a friend and the food was tasty and nice. Came back a few weeks later for brunch and it was also pretty good. All in all the food was good. Went there last night for the first time. On the positive side, we were seated quickly and had an attentive and friendly waitress . We were disappointed in our meals, however and did mention this to the manager when he popped by our table. We had both ordered the prime rib which was flavorless and tough. My husband and I have eaten at Rockwood several times and especially enjoyed the Sunday brunch. We were at Rockwood for a late lunch today and each had French onion soup and chicken fajitas. The soup was good, but the fajitas were bland. The problem wasn't the taste or lack of it, however. An hour or so after eating, we each had sudden attacks of diarrhea. We're fine now, but I'm concerned that whatever made us sick could do the same to someone else. read more

My waitress was friendly and had suggestions I was interested in. So I went with the Pan Seared Salmon. I would recommend it. Suggest do not add the crunchy sweet potatoes on top. It was not crunchy and left me confused of having over cook salmon that was not over cooked. Add more spinach seems like it was a condiment portion. Maybe have it to the side with the mash potatoes.
