First time back eating bbq from here after 2 years in the pandemic. Decided to go here for lunch with friends and tried their Monday Special which was smoked sausage mixed with brisket/mushroom/cheese hamburger. You can get it on a place but I had them it it on a bun like a burger. It was super moist and delicious. Add the pickled red onions and relish as garnish and spicy mayo. I only which they had more healthy sides but overall, the food is still consistently fresh and really flavorful and good. Try local and keep this place open for many years to come. read more

My 'go to' is the brisket, always seasoned and prepared perfectly moist with enough fat to punch the flavor. Good food, friendly people. Moist Brisket: 3.5/5. There was a pepper flavor but not much heat. It was a tad salty. The 20% nicely marbled parts were good. But there was 30% pure fat as you can see in the pictures, and another 50% lean. This is my first brisket in Houston. Will try Truths this week as well. Hutchins in Dallas is still my all time favorite moist brisket. Nice marbling, pepper flavor is amazing and not too salty. If you haven't tried it it's worth the drive to Dallas. Pulled pork sandwich: 3/5. Not as much smoky flavor. Not too salty which is nice. Not really moist though. This was just ok. It needed sauce which we used Prices are reasonable Mac n cheese: 2/5. It was ok Loaded mashed potato: 3.5/5 Bourbon banana pudding: 4/5. Nice flavor. We didn't have a wait at 11.15 am on a Sunday. A line did form at around 11.45am Nice quick place to grab bbq. Pretty darn good brisket sandwich! We stopped by for a very late lunch. The place only had a few people but given the time, I was surprised there was anyone there. Ordered the sliced brisket sandwich & coleslaw. Sandwich was huge & laden with brisket. The brisket was so tender & juicy, the sauce tangy. Bread was fresh & didn't fall apart. Not sure about their pickles as I am used to dill pickle slices on my bbq. Will have to think about that...... Overall a solid, tasty sandwich. The coleslaw was the vinegar variety over the creamy, which I prefer. Tasty, tart & crunchy, it went well with the sandwich. The sauce was good but seriously this brisket didn't need it. Staff are very friendly & personable. Tight parking. Tip: for those who want to go here during peak hours & if the car wash is open, have your car washed & head over to Roegel's to eat while you wait. Win, win. The sliced brisket, moist end, was 5 stars, nice bark, really tender and full of flavor, the pork ribs were amazing, 5 stars, we wanted some pulled pork but showed up too late for that, the sausage....mild for my wife....was 5 stars as well. The three meat plate comes with two sides and we got the cole slaw and beans, both very good. Lots of places make the slaw too sweet, not here. Heard of this place on the radio and I've wanted to try it for some time! I had an operation on my eye. Hadn't eaten since the day before! It must have been 2 pm. Nice older man at the counter, said they only had brisket, sausage and pulled pork! I got fatty brisket and a link with slaw and pinto beans! The brisket was tender and juicy with a nice bark. Great taste! The sausage was great! He told us they had pastrami on Thursday and they get a rush of folks! Katy location. Going to give them a 4, part of that is for being a veteran owned business and the polite staff. The brisket is tender and tasty but not much smoke flavor, they say they use "oak" so I'm guessing white oak not the post oak which is most common in this area with a stronger smoke flavor. If you're a fan of mild smoke flavor BBQ this could be your place. It's also mildly seasoned so it leans on the sauce for flavor. We asked for lean brisket but got moist/fatty, still good but not what we requested. The pulled pork is similar in flavor profile, not a lot of seasoning and not much smoke flavor. More like a oven baked pork butt. It's tender, just a little flat on flavor which you won't notice if you smother it in sauce. The pork ribs were firm (not tough) so the meat tends to come off the bone in long chunks a little on the chewy side and you have to gnaw at the knuckle a bit to get the meat off. Flavor profile is the same as the brisket and pulled pork, lightly seasoned, lightly smoked. Our to go order included sides (potato salad, greens, mac & cheese) but we didn't notice they were left out of the bag until we got home so we can't give an opinion on those other that they looked good behind the glass. The pickle bar is self serve and there is a nice selection. the pickled onions were a bit more on the crunchy side and more raw oniony than sweet/pickled. Stopped by here as I saw this on the TX top 50 list. Ordered 1 lb brisket, 1 beef rib, and sides of macaroni and cheese and potato salad. Brisket (5/5): This brisket was insanely tender. Possibly the best I've had in terms of fattiness and texture. Well seasoned and smoky, there is nothing I can complain about. Even the lean pieces were easy to chew. Excellent. Beef rib (2.5/5): I would probably not order this one again. The fat on it was very gristly. If I could compare the brisket to this beef rib, it would be like prime vs choice or possibly even select meat in how tender and gristly it was. It was almost like a pot roast but very fatty. There are enough bbq places in Houston to get better beef rib (truths, pit room, etc) that you don't have to order it here. Save the money for more brisket, especially since it usually will come out to 1.5-2 lb for a rib ($39-52 at $26 per lb) Sides (macaroni: 3/5, potato salad 2/5): The macaroni and cheese is just your classic ma and cheese. Solid and plenty cheesy, but nothing to write home about. The potato salad feels like it's got olive oil or something in it. Its taste is reminiscent of pesto and I wasn't too big a fan of it. Honestly a solid bbq place. If you only order brisket, this place is a solid 5/5. However, I would avoid the beef rib and potato salad. I may try the pork rib or pork belly in the future. How they are able to afford to keep the lights on and close so early every day in this neighborhood is beyond me. For years I was a huge fan of Roegels BBQ on Voss, but it has been a long time since going back (for reasons having NOTHING to do with their food). I was supercraving some great BBQ this past weekend and Roegels was my first choice. So I looked at the menu board and saw stuffed baked potato with different options below priced at $8.00. So I gave the cashier guy a $20 and he gave me back a buck and change. I looked and said I gave you a $20 and you gave me back just this. He said "THAT's RIGHT, it was $18 and change. I already had my meal handed to me, and saw that those "STUFFINGS" apparently had significant UPLIFT. Anyway, it was just as I remembered (other than the price which wasn't even close) and I loved eating it, but WILL NEVER RETURN AND PAY THAT MUCH $ (and yes I know EVERYTHING HAS GONE UP IN PRICE, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS). The only saving grace that may keep them in business is that they are located in The Very Affluent MEMORIAL AREA where people will spend $ without any thought and Roegels does put out a very good product......BUT C'MON be at least somewhat realistic in your pricing UNLESS you're just a few bucks short of getting your new Ferrari !!! read more

I used to come here a long time ago when this was baker ribs. I heard the owner is still the same but he totally revamped the menu and cooking. So I have been wanting to try this for the longest! Food: we shared moist brisket, jalapeño sausage, ribs and turkey. All the meats were excellent! The brisket was cooked to perfection. Every single bite tasted so good. Very moist and full of flavor. I think this is one of the best brisket in town. The jalapeño sausage was just as good. Pack with a bunch of flavor and every single bite. The ribs are very tasty. I am not huge on barbecue turkey. In fact this is the first time I've ever had a barbecue turkey. I simply don't eat barbecue turkey. I have to admit they do a really good job with your turkey. If you like barbecue turkey who love this one. What really stood out to me was the homemade pickles. Wow those things were absolutely full of flavor..The homemade jalapeño was excellent as well. All in all this is a very great place to eat. The banana pudding was very good too. I would prefer a banana pudding without bourbon. I feel like the bourbon was a little too strong. Customer service: the owner is extremely nice. He goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. He came by our table to check on us. They are doing a very good job here. Service is abrupt. Know what you want when you approach the ordering station- even if no one is behind you. Questions and any delay, no matter how small, will immediately be reprimanded. Simple and Sweet It's more a 4.5 star because they didn't have the BBQ pork belly but round up and a 5 it is. Roegels is featured on the top 50 BBQ list in Texas and it's definitely delicious. The brisket is fatty and moist. I also got to try the jalapeno cheese sausage and it is the best sausage I've tried in Houston so far. The cheese is oozing out and has a satisfying snap from the casing. It is very moist so combine all that and it makes a winning combination. I tried the slaw and the mac n cheese and they were both solid. The staff is friendly and warmly welcomed my friends and I. They also thanked us as we left the establishment. The place is small and you can miss it if you drive quick but slow down and come here. The BBQ is delicious. It is slightly pricier but you pay for the quality. One of the best brisket we've had....and we're comparing it to Killen's, Truth, Tejas and Salt Lick BBQ! It just melt in your mouth, not overly salty, flavor goes all the way through the meat. The pork ribs is also very tender and full of Smokey yummy flavor. Now the sides: Texas caviar is a mix of corn, black eyed peas, pico de gallo...very refreshing. I'm Not a big fan of the dill potato salad though...just a little too bland for me. This weekend, their special dish is the barbacoa taco plate. It comes with 2 huge servings of tacos with pulled pork on flour tortillas and refried beans. One of the better tacos I've had but comparing to the brisket, go for the brisket! I wish I hv an option for corn tortilla. The refried beans is very well done...it has a hint of chili flavor in it. Definitely recommending this place for all you Texas BBQ fans out there. read more

Visiting from out of town and was taken here by local friends for Sunday lunch. Got right in before the crowds and had the best meal of the trip so far. The brisket and pork ribs were tender and made even more delicious with their house made sauce (sweet). My sides of choice were collard greens and coleslaw. Yum! They also had a spot to get pickles which were great (I went with dill and spicy). I have tried other spots as well and this was by far the best. This is Texas BBQ at it's finest - tender, flavorful, fatty. We got a plate with mashed potatoes and collard greens with the brisket. That first bite is going to be something you remember for the rest of your life. Their pickles are also bomb and you can serve yourself - which is a nice touch to break up the fat in the meat. They do run out of food so come early! There's also a parking lot but it gets pretty crowded for the lunch and dinner rush. If you're not into fatty meat, get one of the sandwiches. I ordered my standard BBQ first timer lunch of brisket (from the point, outside cut - I love the bark), house sausage, and pork ribs. The brisket was above average, it's not Truth, but about as good as Pinkerton. Nice and tender. Bark excellent, very peppery. The sausage was also above average, nice "snap" on the casing, good meaty flavor. The ribs came from the worlds tiniest pig- they were good but very very small. Mac and cheese - a Texans vegetable - was very good. Creamy. Cheesy. Warm. Very "comfortable" like Mac should be. The sauces are a little runny, nice flavor but not my favorite. A standout was the pickles. Pickled jalapeños. Dill. Pickled onions. Really good. Overall, a nice place for lunch. Not "special trip" good, but a solid four. Stop by if you're in the area. read more

When I saw the list of Texas Monthly's 2017 Top 50 TX BBQ and seeing Roegels on the list, I was surprised. I've driven past Roegels many times but I never really had any desire to step in and try it out. I thought it was just another BBQ joint in Houston. But since it's on the list, I decided to give it a shot. It took me two visits to Roegels before I finally sat down to write this review. Why? Because the first time I came here, they were out of brisket and I'm not going to write a review for a BBQ joint without trying their brisket!! Between the two visits (both times were to go), I've tried their brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. My first visit was late afternoon (around 4:30 pm) during the week and my second and most recent visit was on a Saturday around 2 pm. Both times I never had to wait more than five minutes before I was able to place an order. However, during both visits, I didn't feel any sense of hospitality from the staff member(s) who were working at the time. now let's talk meats. Sausage - pretty average to me. I ordered this during the first visit just because I want to try the big three of BBQ: brisket, ribs, and sausage. Pork Ribs - very rich in flavor. However, they are a little too dry to my liking. My favorite meat between the big three. Pulled pork - I thought the pulled pork was a little bland. I had to use a lot of BBQ sauce to be able to enjoy the pulled pork. Brisket - As always, I asked for fatty burnt end and although it was good, it didn't blow me away. I also tried their potato salad and mac n cheese. I thought the potato salad was really good because it was pretty garlicky and I love garlicky food. The mac and cheese was also pretty good with the melted cheese instead of melted/dried cheese that you can find at some other joints. During my first visit, I ordered the two meat combo (ribs/sausage) because they didn't have brisket. When I opened the box at home, I saw that they gave me plenty of sausage and two or three ribs (I can't remember). During my second visit, I ordered the three meat combo (brisket/ribs/pulled pork). However, when I got home and opened up the box. And upon looking down into what's in the box, I was like "what the hell, yo?! ONE SLICE OF BRISKET?!?!?!" In the box was also two ribs and a decent amount of pulled pork (maybe about an ice cream scoop worth). But seriously? One slice of brisket?? Out of all the BBQ joints that I've visited, this was probably the least amount of brisket I've ever received. Seriously? ONE SLICE? I mean, if it was a huge slice, then yeah okay. But one cut down the middle and I get two tiny slices that I was able to chow down like nothing. Look, I know meats can get expensive, but one slice? No. Just no Would I be back? Maybe if someone else is willing to pay for my meal because there's no way in hell I'm going to pay for a BBQ combo just to get one slice of brisket. #nope read more

The flavor of the food was extremely well smoked very well but my food was room temperature when I got it and it was maybe 1 other table in there. Last I hate the fact that they do not dress up a fully loaded baked potato , they give you everything on the side and the portions are so small you have to ask for one extra of everything! Haven't been here for a couple of years, used to come get their pastrami, but I was at Texas star grill to get some OG Sauce (that's a different Yelp), and decided to continue my loose-cut brisket tour at Roegels. Glad I did. Rainy day, pretty dark inside, but I could read the NYTimes book review and watch the little league World Series. The sandwich was outstanding. Fave so far. Great balance of fat to lean for a loose cut. It's a for real two-hander, big toasted bun, and plenty of meat. I had a bad experience at a different spot a while back, where the loose cut was seriously 80+% fat. This was perfect, just what I wanted it to be... marbling , not slabs o' fat. Cole slaw is my go to side, and theirs looked beautiful! But... I wouldn't order it again. Had a peculiar flavor I couldn't place... if you've been here and know, please tell me. The best bbq I've had in Houston (at least so far), and I've tried pretty much all of them. The food had an actual bark on it, the sauce was warm and not overly vinegar based, it was everything I wanted. We got a pork belly end and oh man was that amazing, think bbq'd bacon. The sides were okay, the loaded mash potatoes were pretty good, but seemed like only the top had anything on it, and the coleslaw wasn't my thing (not tangy enough). I got a pound of Brisket and some Mac & Cheese from Roegels BBQ. The Brisket was pretty good but it wasn't anything special, you definitely need their BBQ Sauce with it. Their Mac & Cheese is definitely above average and I highly recommend it. However, when you look at the price compared to the taste Roegels just isn't worth it to me when you have places like Pinkertons which is still number 1 in my opinion. read more

Portions were bad, then asked for extra lean beef brisket and was told by cashier that's as good as it gets! Pieces had strips of fat on them and I have been across the country and have never ever been told that's as good as it gets. I'm buying and want mine trimmed, I cannot stand fat hanging off of it.
