Went on a Thursday afternoon and inside was pretty busy. Many were for pick up orders, but it wasn't a problem getting helped. Ordered at the counter and it was seamless. They don't have contactless payment, so you need to hand them your card (only reason for the 4 stars). Appreciated how everyone was wearing a face mask. Treats were delicious - the cream in the strawberry pillow is not overly sweet and the apple turnover was great! They packaged the treats nicely and would recommend eating day of! read more

The cake that I ordered looked very nice. The cake itself however was not good at all. I got a vanilla buttercream cake with guava filling. The bread was dry. No one wanted to eat it. Ruined the birthday party. I also bought a Philadelphia strawberry cake that was dry as well. I was expecting a lot better. Will not be returning or recommending. Looking into it unfortunately does not make the experience better. It's a horrible feeling to have a birthday and no one eats cake. Nor does it refund my money. read more

The person who answered the phone was somewhat rude and dismissive of my concerns with releasing my card info over the phone for apple fritters. I always get the whipped cream and strawberries sitting on top of soft yellow cake and their chocolate cake donuts with fudge on top. There's always enough staff because of the crowds. I have been here before for donuts, and cookies and both were good. I always have had high expectations of Roeser's until this past weekend. Perhaps they just are not a cake place for one's special day. I ordered my wedding cake from Roeser's provided multiple emails, IG messages and went in three times to make sure they knew what I wanted, and for them to ask any pertient questions so they can get my cake right and amazing for my BIG day. I understand they are short staffed and have many orders but that does not mean they can sacfrice quality. I didn't mind the hours I waited in line to place and pick up the order, nor the myheim inside the store with security seemingly to organize the customers that come in. Issues: 1. The qoute in email was $90 less than when I went in person. When I emailed and asked why the difference I didnt get a response back. Silence. 2. The cake did not turn out at all like the pictures I sent them. I had to ask them to re-do it the day of pick up.....and that still didnt turn out right. I took the cake bc it was the day of my wedding and I had a million other things I needed to, otherwise I would have gone back in to request additional fixes. 3. The ladies taking the order are so busy, they rush around and don't seem to really care the order is for someone's special/ big day. The lady that took my order said they do not do frosting/edible flowers. On their IG seems their cakes have frosted edible flowers. 4. A 2 tier 8x10 cake is not cheap ($about 200) for the cake not to turn out as one expected and for it to taste dry. Overall I was unimpressed...sadly. I may go back for cookies and donuts but I doubt I will come back for any cake order after this. So disappointed. read more

I've been going to Roesers for over 45 years. In fact Roesers was one of the reasons I moved to Chicago. I was visiting and friends took me on a picnic to North Ave beach which ended with a Roesers mocha whipped cream cake. I was hooked. I have never had anything from there that wasn't delicious and I have tried almost everything by now. Hands Down.. One of my favorite bakeries that I love to come and purchase birthday cakes. In my opinion it's the best bakery in the Chicago Area. So, of course I stopped in on last Thursday to purchase My Very Own mini strawberry whipped cream cake. It's always packed with people placing orders for cakes or just to come in and purchase cookies or any other sweets that are displayed. Please be sure to grab a ticket cause they do call out numbers. I didn't have to wait long. Thank Goodness.... I was greeted and helped by a nice lady. (Sorry I forgot her name) She made sure that my cake was decorated with love. I was super geeked that I was lucky to have purchased the last cake that was on displayed in the fridge. It was waiting especially for me. Prices are a little pricey but well worth it. It just depends on how you want your cake decorated. My mini cake that serves maybe 6 was like $21.82. It was well worth it because my friends enjoy every slice of it. Cant believe I havent done a review for these guys yet!! Every year they do a great job on my daughter's birthday cake. They always seem to surprise me with the wonderful cake designs on the day that I see the finished cake. Roeser's has the best tasting cakes in the Chicagoland area. And it shows because Roeser's has been around for over 100 years! Great family owned business with excellent customer service. I really love their icing. I usually scrape the icing off other cakes because it usually tastes like fluff to me. I can eat the icing off of any of the cakes from Roesers. And their cake itself stays nice and fluffy, moist and soft. They are delicious. Roesers sells more than just cakes. They also sell cookies, which my daughter loves. Ice cream is also sold there, but have not had the chance to try it yet. If you haven't made your way there yet, I recommend them for your next cake order! read more

Me and My daughter just recently ordered a cake from there for her birthday. It tasted fair as I could tell the quality has gone down over the years. Picking up and placing the order for the cake was long and confusing. I was waiting for them over a half hour to locate my order. They had to literally look for my daughters cake when we got there. A woman was already standing there complaining and upset that they had given away her cake to someone else and asked me if my cake was hers because we basically had the exact same order. Parking is a joke as the parking lot of so tight. And the cost for a small heart shaped cake with strawberries was right around $96. A Chicago classic. Very worth the visit and waiting in line. Some times of days are busier than others, but I would always expect a wait. Eclair was superb. We devoured it within seconds and went back a second time just for that, but they were sold out. Cake bites were super yummy. The red velvet and carrot cake were best. I was there to pick up cakes for my nephew's first birthday. My sister had already paid for it and given me the paperwork and instructed me to go early because the line would be long. Roeser's is the go-to for cakes and it showed. I arrived Saturday morning and there was already a line out the door for pick-ups, even if social distancing wasn't in place I'm pretty certain a line would still have existed. My sister got a Korean themed cake, it's hard to describe but it was a lot of bright colors and generally shaped like a top hat with a gold colored medallion piece. I was pretty skeptical that a non Asian place could do it, but she said not only that they could but far cheaper than any Korean bakery's quotes. Once they opened the cake up to show it I was in awe. The cake was beautiful, almost too good to eat and the colors were matched exactly as my sister wanted. I ended up getting some pastries as well, figuring that if they do cakes that well their 'regular' baked goods wouldn't be disappointing. I got a strawberry tart for the road. This is a childhood favorite! I can't remember a family event where we didn't order a cake from here! They've been around for MANY generations and never let us down. We were hosting a party for about 90 people and needed a cake. I'd planned to order from Mariano's, but decided to price out Roeser's too preferring to support local business whenever possible. Roeser's pricing was essentially identical to Mariano's, so it was a no brainer. I thought it was unusual for a bakery to have such long hours, but the place has a steady stream of customers all day. I did a little advance research on their website and had a good idea of what I wanted. Placing the order was easy, the only confusing part was the deposit; the woman on the phone had said 20%, but the clerk taking my order seemed unclear on what the policy was. On the day of our party, the shop was busy per usual, but we didn't wait long. They pulled out the cake to show us before sending us on our way with the cake, napkins and a plastic cake server, which was appreciated. We got lots of compliments on the cake. So many, I think it will be our go to when I don't want to make something myself. Pro Tip: If you're buying a full sheet cake, bring some muscle with you. Husband tagged along, which saved my bacon. Not only is a full sheet really big, but it's heavy too. He didn't have the easiest time getting it in and out of the car, so I can only imagine what my attempts would have looked like. read more

I've been coming here for about 5 years now and their cakes are absolutely delicious. To keep a long story short, we had a slight issue with a custom cake here. We spoke to the owner. He handled it extremely professionally. He issued a full refund plus a credit no questions asked. He even offered to make us a new cake free of charge. I enjoy the wonderful Cake bites. I love the carrot cake, banana cake and red velvet ones. However the turtle one is somewhat dry and not my cup of tea. They have a lovely assortment of items and I can't help but remember all the strawberry whipped cream cakes ordered here from my family and friends when I was a young brat. In town to visit family. I was up early Sunday looking for the possibility of maybe some decent pastry nearby. Since I'm not from around here, I was unfamiliar with the deep and long history of this establishment. Google maps showed that I was only 7 minutes away. The Yelp reviews and pictures looked promising. When I pulled up to the front of the store, it was a little past 8AM. I noted the beautiful old-school (really old-school!) neon sign hanging over the front entry. The entire street was deserted. No cars, people, nothin'! Was this place even open?? When I stepped inside, I was immediately impressed with the entire amazing scene, it seems that everyone else who are regulars, have come to expect what this look like. All I can say is 'W-O-W'! I know I had come to the right place. I was transported back in time probably 30-40 years when the old-time bakeries used to look like what Roeser's still does. The decor was fresh, and sparkling clean. The aroma of this bakery was something to experience. Words alone do not do justice in attempting to describe this awesome bakery, and the experience held within their doors. Within a few minutes, more patrons filled the store, so I just happened to get there between the Sunday AM lull, I guess. Picked up an decent box filled with a small array of danish and misc. pastries. Their coffee is excellent, while the staff is wonderfully polite and helpful. Back from where I come from, the iconic bakery in Oakland is (was) Neldam's. It is no longer the same as it was. Roeser's is still here, and as iconic a bakery as there ever was. A true disappointment! Ordered a birthday cake , or rather cupcakes shaped to make number 35. I was handed a single row of cupcakes for each number and six extra boxes with my extra cupcakes! This was not cheap, I paid over $150 dollars for this garbage! Jewel would have done them better! The board in which they were to be displayed was also half the size discussed. The young lady that took my order was super sweet, and made a lot of detailed notes, which she reviewed with me. The young lady the day of pick up was horrible, and rude. Her reply was , well this is what it is! I insisted that something be fixed, as this was paid for and I was on my way to the event. She was hesitant, and an other lady came to my rescue, agreeing that this was a hot mess. The cupcakes were re arranged , yet still looking cheap. This was truly my last order. Roeser's Bakery is EVERYTHING. I stopped in before work on a Friday morning (hey, you gotta treat yo'self sometimes!). There was a line of about 5 people, but it was moving quickly. Tip: You can tell it gets crowded at times, so don't assume it'll be a 2-minute stop on your morning commute. I had my eye on the very last Chocolate Bismarck Donut and I thankfully snagged it. I seriously might have cried if one of the people ahead of me wanted it. This donut was heaven on earth. A thick layer of chocolate on top, dense Bismarck cream in the middle, and a moist dough holding everything together. I don't think anyone can make this donut better. I ordered a cake to be ready on 9/15 at 11am and I showed up at 2pm for my cake to not be ready because they put my order for 9/15 in the Saturday (9/16) pile I waited almost an hour for them to rush and make my cake with no love and not the way I wanted it and then they came up with a million excuses as to why they couldn't give me the cake I ordered but when I ordered it, it seem to be no problem. So now I went home paying full price for the cake getting to the dinner late and showing up with a cake I didn't order . I never once received an apology from the employees for THEIR mistake. Still great! This must have been one of my early reviews on Yelp, April of 2007. I know in that time period, many places have opened, closed, opened and closed...and so on. Roeser's is still here. I got a couple of sugar twists, light as air, well almost. and a couple of donuts, one bavarian cream and the other lemon, just love lemon anything. I still remember my dad going all out here for Christmas, he'd pick up a day or two in advance, and they'd keep the goodies on our enclosed back porch if it was cold enough. Of course those boxes would get liberated of some of the contents. Stepping inside for many, fills us with happy memories. The other special thing about Roeser's is that you can get your sweet on for a reasonable non hipster price. If I insulted hipsters, sorry. Makes me sad that I didn't have children to send there. I recently went to Roeser's around noon on Paczki Day and had a wonderful experience there. Even though the place was packed to the brim, the line moved quickly and we were out and on our way in under 10-15 minutes. We got six Paczki and the average cost with tax was $1.64 each--pretty cheap when you consider that other places' prices range from $1.50 to over $3. Not only were the paczki delicious (they had a nice blend of traditional flavors like apricot and plum as well as others like guava and Nutella with many options for powdered sugar or glazed), but the employee who helped me was so friendly, kind, and helpful. I learned that she'd been there since 3:30 am, but you could've never told that, based on her pleasant and warm demeanor. I've been to a few other bakeries on Paczki Day and typically the employees are, understandably, a bit frazzled and short--not at Roeser's. Somehow everyone still had a smile on their face, even though they'd clearly been slammed for hours straight with no end in sight. Highly recommended. read more

Proclaimed to be the best doughnuts in all of Humboldt Park! Bacon Maple Doughnut - You've had one, you've had them all, right? Not really the case with the one from Roeser's. This donut had thick maple frosting on top but the great thing for me was the bacon was done just right for a donut. It wasn't too crisp or too soft, the perfect texture to bite into so that you'd get just the bit your were biting & not tear the whole strip off the donut. Poppyseed Doughnut - This donut just looked so delicious sitting there in the case. I usually only go for chocolate donuts but this one was calling out to me! The donut was really quite good with a mouthwatering glaze over the top. Chocolate Chip cookie & M&M cookie - Both were good, the crumbly kind of filled with butter cookies. I definitely preferred the chocolate chip to the M&M cookie, but I must say the M&Ms were perfectly placed on the cookie! My total was just 4 dollars and some change for all of my items - a great deal. Most of the ladies were nice overall but also seemed a bit more into talking to each other at some points. Overall, I liked everything I got but it wasn't so amazing that I'm dying to go back. Pro-Tip: They ask if you want writing on your cake, but keep in mind the charge is a few extra bucks for that. Pro-Tip: Roeser's has their own parking lot on the side of the building. A rarity in the city for sure! read more

We could not be happier with our experience at Roeser's Bakery! After getting quotes from multiple places, we ended up getting our wedding shower cake from here and are so happy with the quality and price of our cake! They did such a beautiful job and everyone was asking where we got our cake. It was so delicious and so beautiful we almost didn't even want to eat it! Our guests kept commenting how good it was. I grew up in Humboldt Park in 1960 and have been going there since. My dad would buy my mom her Mother's Day and birthday cake there. Then we came along and our birthday cakes. We had kids and we still went there for them. No matter how far we lived from there. Now, OUR kids do the same. As long as they are open we will continue to go there. They still are the best.
