So we were across the street at a well known pickle ball court / restaurant and planned to eat there after our lesson. I always pick a restaurant for a reason. Roger's Roundhouse patio backs up to the train yard, and I love trains. What I don't like is 105 degrees, so we sat inside. A big bar, lots of tv's, and a great staff. The menu is limited, but all of it looks good. Glenda is always up for a good chicken quesadilla, and while I don't like chicken sandwiches, he assured me I should try the spicy chicken sandwich, so I did. Glenda loved her quesadillas. While I still don't like chicken sandwiches, this combination hit the spot. The bread, the way the chicken was seasoned and grilled, the ranchero ranch, and the fresh jalapeños, was actually delicious. I would get it again. We'll be back when it's cooler. I've been in this area several times, and never realized this place was here! Just a couple blocks off University, Rogers Roundhouse is a great spot for happy hour, meeting friends after work, or just relaxing with a beer and a burger (and some Frog Fries!) My son and I really enjoyed the Burger, Cheesesteak, and especially the Frog Fries. Loaded Fries are pretty common, but these Fries are really something special! - and go great with a cold Beer. Plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating, live music on some nights and the service was outstanding. Shiloh couldn't have done anything more to make our visit better. A side salad was also generous with field greens, cukes, tomatoes, house made croutons, and the house cilantro lime vinaigrette. Located in the block behind University Village shopping center, there is a bit of street repair to deal with but free parking is convenient in a lot in front of the restaurant. I waited a couple of days before writing this because I really wanted to take the time to reflect. My husband and I were disappointed with our visit, not due to the food, but due to the service - it was lacking. We arrived just after 6 in the evening. The parking lot was full and when we walked in, there were about 16 or so guests inside and maybe 20 or so out on the patio. It took a minute to realize that we just seat ourselves but there is a sign saying to do so when you walk in the door. We were not greeted by a staff member for almost 20 minutes. We wondered if we were supposed to go up to the bar and place an order or what. It was very confusing. We discovered that the large number of people inside the restaurant when we arrived come together there regularly to play board games. It was super interesting. In any event, it did take 20 minutes for a staff member to come up to us. We ordered Diet Coke and the Frog Fries (neither of us drink beer) and asked for a couple more minutes to finalize the rest of our order. We ended up also ordering the Turkey Club, Philly Cheesesteak, and an order of Taquitos. The food was all pretty slow to arrive, most likely because they were busy but the quality and portion sizes were great! We waited an incredibly long time for drink refills and just felt a bit ignored, quite frankly. The server did continuously apologize but the service never improved over the hour + we were there, and we witnessed a lot of standing around by various staff members. We appreciated the Elite invitation as this is probably a place we would have never found on our own and the food was pretty good. The actual space was cool, with tons of outdoor seating. For being a watch party, the vibe was pretty low key. You could tell only a few folks were actually watching. Hot and crispy thin-cut fries slathered in queso, beef, and pico. I ordered the RRH Burger Roundhouse Style add Bacon with a side of fried pickles to complete the calorie binge. The fried pickles were average. The burger and bun together (3.5-4.0/5) were above average and had good flavor. The added bacon was nice and crisp. Good Service. Went there to check the place out, living in the railroad life and this being near the UP switch yard, was my understanding this one was in honor of the location. Made it interesting. There was a good bit of railroad pictures and murals, as well as a bit to TCU items, of which some of their dishes are named for. Their website states it honors the history of the UP and Davidson Yard which sits just north of this establishment. Sad thing is the history is a bit skewed, Ft Worths Railroad history is that of the Texas & Pacific Railroad, owned by Jay Gould and the Missouri Pacific. Union Pacific didn't enter the picture until 1980. Tho Davidson Yard where the establishment sits next to was originally built in the late 1800's. Just some history that has no affect on the rating. This establishment is a large open area with some large garage doors to the left that open up to the outdoor seating. At first glance I wasn't sure what to make of it, it wasn't really a restaurant nor was it really a bar. After sitting for a while it dawned on me that this is a college bar with frequent live music. It has a very odd vibe, but matches the college vibe, or at least trying to. A lot of tables, where you have to seat yourself, like at a bar, but the TCU stuff is really aimed at the college demographic as is the tap beers and few specialty drinks that they have listed on the board behind the bar. It doesn't have that full bar feel, nor does it have a full restaurant feel, it's really an odd mixture. You seat yourself, the staff stands off in the corner looking at us, not sure what they are waiting on. There were us and 3 other tables with patron's, and I counted 13 staff members for a lunch crowd of 4 tables. There are bar codes on the tables that you scan with your smart phone to pull up a digital menu. The menu is small, more appetizers than meals. There are some nice pictures of past special dinners they have, which is extremely misleading, as they only offered those as weekly specials from weeks past. Some of them looked good, but nope, they don't offer those as regular fare. Didn't like that, I don't want to see what was offered, I want to see what is offered. That was a negative. The wait staff oddly staring at us while we sat and anticipated them coming over was off putting as well, very much a negative. We did ordered the Frog Fries and the hamburger special called the Capreasy Does It. This is where it gets a little better. The Frog Fries is a large basket full of fries seasoned with a season salt and covered with 3 cheeses, onions, pico, and ground beef. It was a good mixture of flavors. The fries didn't get nasty soggy either, so that was a plus. These are definitely big enough for 2 people to share. We also ordered the Burger of the Week, we split this as well. It's a burger on a ciabatta bun, wagyu beef patty, mozzarella cheese which was thick cut, tomatoes, spring lettuce, and a raspberry balsamic sauce in a cup. The balsamic sauce had a good flavor. The burger was decent, the meat had a good charring which added to the flavor. Downside of this burger is that it's a very thin patty, and only one, and it cost $13!!! Not a very large burger nor is there a lot of meat on it, and it costs that much!!! WOW!!! Overall, it's a neat place, odd on the atmosphere, and the main dishes are a bit overpriced for the amount of the servings they provide. It is located near one of the Trinity Forks and within a long walk to the Ft Worth Zoo. read more

Well it took nearly 9 months, but I finally made it to Rogers Roundhouse! Having noticed it just when the Covid shutdowns began, we couldn't work it in until recently. Walking in, given their large patio space (a good portion of which is covered), there is ample room to sit down and enjoy a meal safely during these crazy times. They also have sliding garage doors that open to the interior to allow a some airflow in there as well. Onto the food! They have plenty of great things to choose on the menu, but I defaulted to their popular RRH burger. A delicious burger, both oddly small and large. The thin patties and flavor remind me of those old-school diner burgers. Not much embellishment or added flavors, just a tasty, simple burger. With plenty of options for sides, it made for a hearty meal. With the good food and space to relax, we will definitely be back to try out more of the menu, especially those famous chicken nuggets.
