PORTIONS. ARE. HUGE. Seriously - I ordered a medium bowl here, and it was bigger than my face. The fish portions are generous as well. Their truffle sauce with ponzu is SO unique!! I usually only ever get aloha shoyu or some variation of that, whenever I go to Poke places, but I'm so happy I felt a little more adventurous here. When I asked to try the truffle ponzo sauce, they mixed it in with some salmon for me to taste! This is HUGE haha! Many other places just let you dip your tongue in a sampling cup of the sauce, which isn't a great way to get a feel for the sauce. But wait! There's more! There's also delicious taiyaki served here! I love how they have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, unlike other taiyaki places that I've been to. You have the option of mixing two flavors of ice cream, as well as getting two filling flavors! I ordered a Black Sesame + Milk Taiyaki with Custard and Red Bean filling. You're allowed as many toppings as you'd like. Overall, a really underrated place to grab poke + dessert. Whenever I crave poke I go to Spinfish Poke in Old Town. However, I decided to be unfaithful and try something new and it did not disappoint. This location used to be Gelato by Stick Station. The restaurant is relatively new and there isn't a ton of food traffic compared to Colorado Blvd. However, this is a good thing because for now this place is still a hidden gem! The reasons I love this place is that even their small bowl which is under $10 stuffed me from lunch until dinner time! Their fish selection is fresh and their toppings are good and there is even corn! Sauces aren't overpowering and everything tasted amazing. Great little poke place. Let's start off with this place is kinda small but a poke place in pasadena I kinda expected it to be. When I walked in I was greeted immediately and checked out the menu. All the reviews said the purple rice was different so decided to get that with some salad. The lady was really helpful and asked if there were any questions. I got a medium bowl with yellowtail, spicy tuna, and shrimp. They have lots of sauces to choose from so if you are a type of person like me who a variety of sauces to choose from then this place is great. The truffle ponzu stood out to me the most out of the sauces since I barely know any place that will give you truffle without an extra charge. The size of the bowls are great they give you way more than you expect I usually get a medium and get pretty full but today was stuffed. What drew me to this location was that they had taiyaki here as well so decided to try those as well. The rose berry was different my girlfriend said it was like a rose milk tea and the matcha & black sesame swirl was great as well. They give you lots of toppings as well. Will be back again. Poke...one of the great loves of my life. I could not be happier about the trend of poke shops popping up everywhere here in LA! Now another new one in Old Town Pasadena called Stray Cat Poke and Dessert, next IPix Theater and Café Santorini I'm not going to lie, when I first heard of the name, my mind went some where else. Came here recently for the first time experience was fantastic. Like most poke places, it's tiny with limited seating. Window seats and outdoor tables are available. The usual assembly line concept - pick your size (small, medium, large), starch (rice or salad), fish (tuna,yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, albacore, octopus), plethora toppings, and variety sauces. The one thing they offer that that no one else has as a base is purple rice. The light purple color is achieved by combining/cooking white and black rice together. I ordered a large poke ($12.99) which comes with 4 scoops of fish. Doubled down on tuna and salmon. Of course, I had to try their purple rice u which is definitely a first for me. Sides and topping included avocado, seaweed salad, green onions, masago, pickled ginger, and fried onions. As for sauce, combined mix of spicy mayo and sesame shoyu. The result is delicious. The fish and all ingredients tasted fresh and really flavorful. Loved the purple rice, so visually striking. The quality and serving stlye kind of reminds of 8oz poke place which is no small matter. In addition to serving poke bowls, they also offer ice cream desserts like taiyaki which is Japanese fish like waffle cone. Dessert is serious business for me so I had to try their taiyaki ($6). I got the black sesame and matcha swirl ice cream with custard filling. Toppings included - fruity pebble sprinkles, chocolate pocky / marshmallow sticks. No additional cost which is cool! The taiyaki is both visually pleasing and delicious. However, a minute into my ice cream, it started to melt and drip along the side. Probably due to freshly made, warm taiyaki waffle. All in all, great poke and taiyaki place worth checking out. Haven't tried their poke but their happy hour lasts for awhile where you can get a free drink or ice cream with your poke. Was out on a weekend walk and craving some ice cream, so we stopped at Stray Cat for get a taiyaki. They offer 4 flavors of ice cream, milk, matcha, rose berry, and black sesame. We sampled a few and selected the milk and matcha swirl. The rose berry was very sweet :( For a filling we selected the vanilla custard (recommended by the staff and it was a good choice). The milk flavor is not that sweet and quite creamy, and the matcha flavor has a strong matcha flavor. It is $6 for a single taiyaki, so it's more expensive than a scoop of ice cream, since it's more than just a scoop of ice cream. The is limited seating inside, but a courtyard outside and you can easily walk around holding and eating it. read more

Came here to try their Kaiyaki (fish cone) froyo, like at SomiSomi in KTown. Parking is super convenient in the Free 90min lot by White Horse Lounge, with a 5min walk north. They have four flavors- Milk, Rose, Black Sesame, and Matcha. I really liked their Matcha and Black Sesame- very solid. You also get to pick a base (custard, Nutella, or red bean), which is a nice addition. They give unlimited toppings of Mochi, Oreos, Vanilla wafers, Pokky sticks for no additional cost. One of be nice touches was a little shovel as your spoon! Overall nice flavors, just wish they had more to try. Also, other than the fish/Kaiyaki being a cool fun version of a soft cone, I think I will skip that and just get a cup next time ($4.50 instead of $6.50). read more

Absolutely loved this place. We were looking for poke and taiyaki, and this place has them both!! Not only that, I would say they do both decently well. For the poke, the portion sizes were pretty decent. We got the medium which was enough to split between my girlfriend and I. I would have liked a bit more fish, and they do pack on the rice if you order it. Otherwise, the flavor was good. I think the bowl was about $10, maybe closer to $11 or $12 with tax, so the value was also great. For the taiyaki, I got the black sesame and green tea swirl with the red bean filling. I also got extra matcha powder, oreo powder, and fruity pebbles as toppings, so it looked really good. Presentation is 5/5 for sure. Taste was what you'd expect, but I do appreciate that the taiyaki was the perfect blend of crunchy outside and soft-gooey inside. Service fantastic. We came in a group of 7, but the two workers there did really well to keep up and take our orders. When it came to dessert, they were also very generous in allowing us to have samples of the ice cream, as well as giving us a good amount of toppings (some places are usually stingy with this). Overall, I can't recommend this place enough. Its a small restaurant, but it has everything you need: poke & taiyaki. There are a ton of amazing poke places in Pasadena, and it was very difficult for me to decide which one to go to. After looking through the options that I had, while Spinfish was the elephant in the room, I opted to go for a place that had the unique aspect of also selling taiyaki ice cream, a treat that I had not had in quite some time. I went here on a date with my girlfriend. We split one small poke with scallops and salmon, as well as one matcha taiyaki ice cream with red bean, matcha powder, marshmallows, and Pocky. The poke was just about as good as any other place in LA, along with the taiyaki. As part of a Yelp offer, we also got a free green tea with the order which was nice. A minor complaint I have was that the taiyaki was on the firmer and cooler side. It did not taste like it had just been freshly made, which is what I am used to from places like SomiSomi in Koreatown. Still, the prices were reasonable and the flavors for both the poke and taiyaki were solid. This was not be the number one place for poke OR taiyaki for me in Los Angeles, but if you are in the mood to have both at the same time and you happen to be in Pasadena, Stray Cat gives you that option. read more

Unfortunately, they missed the mark this time and I got some undesirable cuts of salmon with the chewy skin still on. There wasn't enough cucumber or avocado to round out all the fish in the burrito, so it tasted...well, fishy. And too mushy without the cronch factor that cucumber provides. I was disappointed. What happened to the amazing burrito I had just eaten the week before? I hope they remove the salmon skin from their future cuts and stuff their burritos with more cucumber and avocado. I was craving sushi and stumbled upon this place. I really liked that they use purple rice instead of regular sushi rice. However, the compliments stop there. I ordered the 911 roll and hot night roll. They definitely filled me up, but they were pretty bland in flavor. They only gave me 2 soy sauces. And the tiniest amount of ginger. And no napkins. When I asked for more ginger, the server didn't say anything or even looked at me so I wasn't sure if she was going to bring it over. When she brought the second roll (hot night roll which includes eel sauce), I noticed only the smallest amount of eel sauce was placed as a means of keeping the tempura flakes on top. I've been to other sushi places that can justify the high $$ value because the sushi tastes amazing, but I honestly can say that it wasn't worth it this time. What's interesting about this place is it's not just glorified ice cream cones, but they sell poke bowls too. Like I can legitimately have a real lunch here that isn't in the dessert category. I ordered the Taiyaki cone (aka a hollowed out cone of a fish mold. Similar in taste of a fresh waffle) with Matcha ice cream soft serve. Toppings: Nilla wafer and sprinkles. I was disappointed they ran out of Pocky sticks (whyyyy) and mochi (double whyyyy). Hopefully they'll keep those popular items well-stocked going forward. My girlfriend and I came here for dessert after a delicious sushi dinner. We wanted to try the taiyaki fish with the ice cream since it's been all over instagram. We went with the matcha and rose berry swirl ice cream. And a custard filling. Fruit pebbles on top. Both she and I were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. My girlfriend is not a fan of soft serve and she loved their ice cream. I thought their fish taiyaki was really delicious. I've been told the taiyaki is all for Instagram and it's not that yummy but... I thought the fish part was excellent. It was crunchy on the outside. It went perfectly well with the ice cream. It wasn't too sweet so it was a good chase in between bites of ice cream. I would not give it a 5 stars but I would definitely come back. dude. THIS PLACE IS SOOO GOOD. I got a large, all salmon, avocado, edamame, green onion, black sauce (which is basically eel sauce), and a butt load of fried onion. The purple rice is great, tastes just like white rice. The salmon is SO GOOD, high quality, smooth and melts a bit in your mouth. Honestly love how their bowls are more flat than tall, it makes it easier to eat everything in a perfect ratio! They followed my added notes to a T, food was safely packaged (i requested the bag to be sealed, but wouldn't be surprised if they did this already). Out for lunch and with all the poke places in less then a 1/2 mile away from each other this one just opened up. I decided to give it a shot. Walked in and staff was friendly and very helpful. I looked over the menu and began to order. Medium bowl - 1/2 white rice 1/2 salad. The white rice was mixed with black rice according to the person helping me and had a purple color to it. The salad was mixed greens. Then you get your pick of sides. Sides - edamame with some spicy crab meat. Sides were good. With the medium you get to choose 3 types of fish. I picked tuna, salmon and spicy tuna. Tuna was a little fishy were as the salmon was great and the spicy tuna was just ok. The spicy tuna didn't have much spice to it and I think I've been chasing a spicy tuna that I've had at a different place were it had the right amour of heat. Fish was nice and cold and taste very fresh. Nice size chunks and good amount. Added soju, ponzu and some heat to the fish. Added some cucumber, white onion, pineapple and cilantro. Good combo of things. To top it off I added crispy onions and crispy garlic. Can't go wrong with these toppings. I also got to spin a wheel and received a free I e tea. I had their spam musubi. It was different having it with purple rice. I was actually surprised that they make most of their rolls with purple rice and no white rice was available. This is actually a good thing because I heard long time ago that purple rice is better for you and tried looking for it after I left Japan. The musubi was good. I have no idea this place existed until I was searching for poke bowls on yelp. My coworker told me he was craving poke so that got into my head (plus it was a hot day so what else would I want to eat?). It's located in Old Town Pasadena in the back of a little alley by the old movie theater and where Gap used to be located. It was empty when I arrived which was great and it was clean inside (important during these covid times). The people inside were wearing masks and gloves (thank you). I walked in and ordered since I was having issues with their sauce options on their takeout app (they were only allowing to choose all of their sauces!). I ordered the large bowl (work was paying for it so I went big), with half purple rice (yum and healthier) and salad (gotta get my greens) and added all the extra sides (luckily a lot of their sides are included in the pricing and not extra like some places- although I think they did charge me for avocado even though it wasn't written as an extra cost on their menu). The extra plus was that they had yellowtail which I find to be pretty rare at poke places. Super excited they had that as it's my favorite fish. Definitely will be going back for that. They were generous with their portion size too which was great. I also ordered an iced green tea to top it off. The total came out to a little over $20 with tip (hey like I said, work was paying for it, normally I would have just gotten the smaller bowl lol). The rose berry ice cream here was punch-in-the -face freakin good! Like I don't usually rave over one particular place, but this has got to be my new favorite for ice cream. I got the rose berry flavored ice cream and it was so so good. It wasn't too sweet and tasted refreshing. Actually, it's really hard for me to explain how good it was. My eyes shot open as soon as I had the first spoonful in my mouth and I almost cussed aloud. It was that good. And I'm trying really hard not to exaggerate but it blew my mind. I went to this restaurant today with a friend because I had such a good experience last time I went. The spicy tuna rolls and cucumber rolls were very good. They were not too spicy and the rice was delicious. I think this place is overlooked and you should definitely check this place out. Highly recommend!! read more
