Lots of good things to say about this place! To start things off, it's a little hidden in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. It's inside the courtyard like if you were going to watch a movie. Upon walking in you are always nicely greeted by the staff. They're so friendly! Their ordering process is pretty straight forward. You pick your size, your base, proteins, toppings, and sauces. The UNIQUE part is they have something called purple rice and it's really aesthetically pleasing and it also tastes really good! I always get the small since it's already so much food for me! I then get avocado and spicy crab meat. I love their scallops and shrimp and the rest of the toppings I mix up depending on what I'm feeling that day. All their options are fresh, and they keep their workstation very clean. The employees even wear masks as well which is nice because they take that extra step of hygiene. If you're looking for a cute dessert to snap a picture of, this is definitely the place to go. The taiyaki ice cream here is a fish shaped cake that includes a filling, ice cream, and unlimited toppings! I got the milk ice cream with red bean filling, a mochi stick, green tea powder, and fruity pebbles. SO GOOD. Be sure to get the powder toppings added last since other toppings don't stick as well if they are added on top of the powder! The only thing that was a little disappointing was that the taiyaki was a bit hard. It might've been because I dropped by at night but it was still really good overall. The spoons here are little shovels - sooo cute! The shop is really small. It is 1/2 a poke shop as well. When I was there, I only saw one staff member working at the time and he was extremely personable. There are only a couple small tables inside and a few tables right outside. Keep in mind that the taiyaki ice cream can get a bit messy when you start eating the cake so grab some napkins in case you planned on eating it as you walked around old town! I ordered for pickup here through GrubHub. Under the regular bowl, it says "pick 3" under proteins, so I did so accordingly and placed my order. Much to my surprise, a few minutes later, I got a notification saying they had decided to charge me an extra $4 with no further explanation. I went to pick up my order and asked about the mysterious charge. The worker told me I had ordered extra fish, because the regular bowl was only 2 scoops of fish. I told him that the GrubHub menu instructs you to pick 3, as part of the regular order. He stared at me blankly, then repeated that the regular bowl was 2 scoops of fish. Then he said he had done me a favor because he should've really charged me $8 (because I had two bowls). First off, that's a ridiculous surcharge considering a large bowl is $2 extra and you get an extra scoop on there. Second of all, I said I understood that, but they obviously had their menu wrong on GrubHub, and it wasn't fair for me to pay for that mistake. When I place an order with no special requests or additions and you accept it, you agreed to those prices; you can't just randomly charge someone more money afterwards because you have their credit card?! Since I wasn't getting anywhere with this guy, and since he claimed there was no manager around, and I didn't want to keep the people in line waiting, I said I'd take it up with GrubHub. Had to spend another 10 minutes explaining to GrubHub to get my money back. Was the actual food worth it, you may wonder? The answer is no. The toppings on the bowls were all wrong and mixed up, like someone had thrown the entire order into a cannon, fired it, and then made the order based on the scraps of paper they found. I had about half of my husband's toppings in my bowl and he had half of mine. Some were just missing altogether. Now I know orders can get jumbled through food apps, but in this case, there was a clearly printed receipt with the order, which I noticed because the worker was explaining to me for the fifth time that I had ordered three scoops of fish. My bowl was also pretty bland considering I had three sauces in it. Fish quality was just okay. Lastly, they charge you extra for masago. I've never seen that at a poke place before?! That's almost akin to charging for rice, in my opinion. Masago is just a part of poke life! Save your money and go somewhere else... that doesn't charge extra for masago. read more

Mmmmm.... poke, soft serve, iced tea... Note: review is only for the soft serve Hubby and I was in the Pasadena area and bookmarked a few places for the sake of nostalgia of our last Japan trip. Walked over here, opened the door, and was promptly greeted with a "Welcome" and a smile from the staff. :) They were super-cool and asked what we were looking to have, and explained the process. We both ended up taiyakis with froyo. For the taiyakis, they have different flavors that go inside the taiyaki (i.e., custard, red bean, etc.), and then the froyo (i.e., green tea, black sesame, milk, etc.) goes on top of it. Comes out pretty cute, and price is around $6 each, if I remember correctly. You can then put toppings on it, such as matcha powder, marshmallows, sprinkles, etc. They take card or cash. They also have the FiveStars rewards program, so register your phone number to get the rewards! Taste-wise, pretty good! Froyo wasn't too sweet, and the flavors of the taiyaki with froyo with the inside of the taiyaki worked. The part that wasn't to awesome, though, is that you can't bite both sides of the taiyaki at the same time; you always have to nibble on one side and then nibble on the other side. Otherwise, if you try to eat both sides at the same time like a sandwich, the innards explode out :/ Gets super messy and your toppings go on the table/floor. Checked out this place for lunch. Tried 3 of their popular rolls The flavors were good but not special. Although the restaurant wasn't busy at all, the service was slow. My main problem was the way they rolled their sushi. All the rolls were super loose! You can't hold it with chopsticks at all! Poke because kitty's love there fish and at first I didn't get how the name went with dessert until I saw the CUTEST fish shaped waffle that you could put your ice cream in! You get to pick a filling for inside your fishy waffle, ice cream flavor, and toppings. So for my order I got a custard filling, with Matcha ice cream, and I got some cotton candy to top it off. The taiyaki ice cream here is so scrumptious! I enjoyed the rose berry and milk swirl: super sweet but I felt like the milk flavor overpowered the rose berry. The soft serve didn't really wow me but the taiyaki cone was nice and crispy. And I appreciate that this place offers free toppings! Yelp 100 Challenge 2018: 26/100 Stray Cat Poke & Dessert popped up on my Yelp as a hot and new business a while ago, and I was impressed by the amount of fish and just the overall quantity they give you. Nowadays, it's hard to distinguish the quality of the fish (unless if it's really terrible and not fresh), so it really comes down to the quantity and the sauces/toppings that they offer. When I came in and ordered a regular poke, I found out that their portions had reduced since they had opened. Their old regular is now their large portion. However, it's still not bad since their regular is only $9.99 and they still give a good amount of food. What I liked most about this place is that they have purple rice as an option for your base. But what I didn't like was that you're only allowed one option for their side. I simply couldn't choose between the seaweed salad, the imitation crab meat (regular or spicy), and avocados. All in all, I still think that this may be a new poke place for me in Pasadena (the purple rice might just seal the deal). Can't wait to come back to try their dessert! read more

The matcha & milk is on point , I would even say better than the original (somisomi in LA) but would hope they bring the black sesame to give that a try. Pros: quality matcha and ingredients, line is always short, Park & walk garages is a walkable distance, & they're more than willing to give you the toppings of choice, which is included in the price you pay. Cons: I would have completely missed the place without the help of google maps & the people who work there look bored. did i miss something from this place? i just don't get it... this is an uber eats order. i ordered at 11:10am. everything i asked for was on the plate and paid extra for spicy mayo and i also got an extra scoop of tuna. i didn't receive spicy mayo however the plate was drenched in sauce just how i like it but the rice was just super hard. it felt like it was not edible to eat. the rice was also cold. the spicy tuna taste was kind of off.. and the scoops were ridiculously small compared to other places i've been to. they also gave me the SMALLESt scoop of spicy crab meat, portion being a size of a plastic spoon. i ended up eating all the fish with tons of rice left. i get that i placed an order right when y'all open but seriously you'd expect FRESH FISH. i don't know if i'll be coming back. read more

Rotten Fish: The worst customer service. I ordered a poke bowl today, and the meat was spoiled! At first, I thought it was the sauce but quickly realized that the meat was a bit off. I picked up one of the pieces and saw the fish had a greyish tint. Since I order here often, I decided to call and let them know not to serve that spoiled raw fish to anyone because I care about their business. I ate dinner elsewhere and wasn't looking to get my meal comped. When I called, I spoke to the manager and told them I eat here often, and they should be aware that something is spoiled. The manager laughed at me over the phone. They said to me that no one has complained about this "today," and they couldn't do anything about it. I don't care about the money, I cared about them not serving it to others, and they did not affirm me. I called to help anyone ordering after tonight's batch and give them a fair warning. I know how much a rotten dinner can spoil anyone's evening like it did to me, and I didn't want this happening to anyone else. They kept belittling me over the phone and never offered an apology or to seek further understanding. I will never eat here again and will tell my story to all my friends. After a nice 'healthy' salad dinner at Urban Plates, my friends and I decided to go grab some dessert even though we were already so full. Yelped and saw this place was fairly new so decided to give it a shot. Parked about a block away and walked over to stray cat. We arrived around 930p.m and they close at 11 so it was great. It's a poke and ice cream store. Ice cream wise there's 3 fillings, 4 flavors, and 2 choices. You can have red bean, nutella or custard as your filling. You can have the flavor milk, matcha, rose berry or black seseme. Then you can choose to have it in a cup for 4.50$ or taiyaki(fish bun) for 6$. Of course to have it picture worthy I got the taiyaki with milk flavoring and nutella filling. You also get unlimited toppings so I put sprinkles and had a marshmallow on the side. The ice cream itself tasted great! Love milk flavored organic ice cream, but the taiyaki was cold and semi hard so it was pretty difficult to eat, but i guess that way the ice cream doesn't melt. I'll start by saying the fish quality has consistently been good here. The purple rice is delicious, and they have a nice variety of proteins, toppings, mix-ins and sauces. Their green and red sauce have a great taste. The place itself is consistently clean. They no longer have desserts so their name/signs can be kind of misleading. My issue here is with the service. It's really inconsistent. One girl who works there (short, pale, chubby Asian girl... I think I heard a coworker call her Felicity? Something that started with F) I saw sneezing onto her hands multiple times and then handling the food scoops. Unfortunately she was the one who did my bowl and unsurprisingly, I got sick three days later. I try to avoid the days she works there because I've noticed on various occasions I've gone there that she doesn't shut the lids on the rice, and the rice gets harder. It's also really dangerous to do that because bacteria grows quicker that way. Basic hygienic consideration/training is a low standard to hit and if one girl is doing that where customers can see, it makes me question the other workers and what's going on with the food. That and like I said, I don't like the rice in my pokebowls being that hard. I also hear comments from other customers about some of the workers. Several have told me that they think the short white girl who works there doesn't do as good a job on their bowls as some of the other workers. I haven't experienced this problem myself personally but I can't say I really care for her attitude all that much. Honestly depending on who you get determines how your bowl comes out. And also I notice sometimes some of the workers give attitude to some people, and not to others. Even if I'm being treated well (which, in this case, I wouldn't say I'm treated well, more like OK), it's a real turn off seeing how they treat people sometimes. They used to have yellowtail very consistently. Lately I notice that they run out easily or there's not very much yellowtail available so the scoops they give you of it are smaller. Edit: I'm only speaking for the pokebowls here. As for the other food I've tried... The udon is your typical fast food udon, nothing special or particularly good. The mochi ice cream is literally like, three pieces of mochi ice cream cut in half. You could buy a box of the same thing from the store. read more
