My friend and I visited during lunch and surprisingly, it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, given it's location and the day being Sunday. I ordered the Yellow Curry and my friend got the Thai combo dish. The first bite immediately put me in shock. I could not believe I've never had Yellow Curry before. It was AMAZING! I've always opted for the Panang Curry, but was so glad I decided to switch it up that day. Each spoonful was full of savory, creamy goodness. The meat was also very tender and juicy. All of this paired with the rice was a combination I could enjoy every single day! It was seriously THAT good. On top of the delicious food, the service was also impeccable. The food was really good! We got pad Thai and pad see ew. Very much enjoyed our meals. We had to take them to go halfway through and the food was still delicious after being packaged and carried for 20 minutes. The service was very quick and responsive. One of my friends was feeling faint so they found a place for him to lay down. The waitress gave us smelling salts and the manager kept checking in and said that if we need any help that he was available. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. I generally like this place and the food. The curries are bomb and delicious, though the pad thai isn't my favorite- it tastes a little ketchupy, what's up with that? Pad thai aside, another thing bringing the score down is that we've had trouble putting orders in by phone - they have a number listed but it doesn't seem to work. That means you have to order through Doordash or Grubhub or whatever, and I've grown to dislike those services (for their business practices, their upcharges, the way they treat employees and businesses, etc.). I ordered fried spring rolls, pad Thai with beef and green curry with chicken. I like a variety and when I first come in to a place, I like to try a little bit of everything. Spring rolls came out and you really can't go wrong. Next was the pad Thai and I was thoroughly disappointed. Absolutely no flavor at all. And pad Thai is my go to and I will say I've had frozen pad Thai that was much better than this. I asked for a spicy level of 3 out of 4 and it was not even spicy. I tried mixing the noodles up thinking maybe it just needed to be stirred around, nope. It was not good. The next thing that came out was the green curry and same thing. It was better than the pad Thai but not by much. Once again, very little flavor. Usually with curry I love soaking my rice with the soup but honestly, it just drowned out the little flavor it had more. The vegetables were cooked very well but other than that don't order rice and just eat it like soup and it will taste much better tastes. Now, the service it self was amazing. Holy employees! I was at Rom Mai Thai for less than 25 minutes and was dining alone, and I was checked on several times by at least THREE different people. They were pleasant and nice, but man! That's a lot of checking in to make sure I'm enjoying my meal and have everything I want. This is one of those places I'd refer to as being slightly "finer dining" Thai. The food is great and the servings are on the slightly smaller side. I do enjoy having two meals in one order, but... this food is good and it's also nice to not have to carry take-out around with me. I can't quite recall what dish I had, but it was good and the pieces of tofu were big (and perfect). I definitely like the food, but... like Katy H... Rom Mai Thai has become my "go to" neighborhood Thai restaurant in all the years I have lived on Capitol Hill. Their food and service stays consistently good. Some patrons may venture to say that the service may be a bit overbearing but I think they are just being overly nice. And, I think its nice they really go the extra mile to keep your water glass filled at all times while you dine in their restaurant. Whether I dine in their restaurant or pick up take out, service is really fast and efficient. A few of their dishes I like to order from here when I visit are their Pad See Ew, Thai Beef salad, Pad Prik King and Pumpkin Curry. The Pumpkin Curry is a real treat when it is available. It was full of delicious veggies and had just a slight kick of spice. I will make note that all the food we ordered was supposed to be 3 stars/medium spicy. Every menu item turned out pretty mild for the most part. The chicken pad thai was good...not great. The sauce that they cook it in was a bit sweet in my opinion. We also did an order of the mango sticky rice...which was cold and the rice was hard. I even tried eating this first thing as I know they generally serve it warm. Not pleased with that one. I came here recently for some take-out, because it was close, quick, and easy. I decided to get the Pumpkin Curry with Chicken, which was supposed to be a chef's special. It was definitely special. It was a red curry-based curry, but the best part was that it had pumpkins in it. I was skeptical about how well the pumpkins would go with curry, but it was superb. I would recommend it to anyone who likes pumpkin and red curry. I ordered 4 stars of spiciness, and was not disappointed with the level of spiciness, which I sometimes am with certain Thai places. My only gripe would be that I wish there was more meat and pumpkin! I was somewhat satisfied after eating it all, but could have definitely eaten more. The service was quick and straight-forward. We've been loyal customers of Rom Mai Thai for over 15 years. They're the best Thai in Seattle in our opinion! While the restaurant is lovely, since the pandemic we frequently order for delivery. Whether we're ordering just for our household or for a small gathering, we always receive a perfectly accurate, hot and delicious order delivered from the same friendly delivery man. My partner and I get food from Rom Mai Thai OFTEN. Typically we do take-out orders on Mondays, which is usually about a 15 minute wait for two noodle dishes. When we get there we're always greeted immediately by such kind servers. Never have I had a bad customer service experience here! They're attentive, and always willing to help. Dining in is also quite nice, they have lots of indoor seating, and a few outdoor ones as well. The music isn't too loud or energetic, so the conversation level in the room is mostly low. Food I've tried and enjoyed: -Pad Thai (vegan, no egg, they don't use fish sauce). It's on the oilier side so take-out may clump together when you get home, but it still tastes good. -Fresh Rolls w/tofu (also vegan!). This one is great for a light meal or a side. It reheats the next day well (just microwave for 20 seconds). -Green Curry w/ tofu (you guessed it, also vegan). I don't do spicy well anymore, so I get mild now. It's a nice spice level and is also just sweet enough! -Mango sticky rice (honestly..I think this is vegan? Maybe?) This is a staple. It's sweet and savory. Tastes as it should.
