I'm just so frustrated with this place. I work close by and was SO thrilled to see a new place pop up to eat.. Due to limited choices I've gone there a few times and everytime I kick myself and say, "damn, I forgot, the food here is just not what I keep thinking its going to be!" SIgh. Today, I tried the daily special salad of nectarine, burrata on a bed of arugula with champagne dressing. So sad to see four skinny slices of nectarine. The burrata was nice, but please, someone show them how to make a dressing.. all oil, barely a trace of champagne vinegar. Good thing I love arugula. I know how hard the food business is, I'm in it.. and it kills me to write something negative, but there is a ton of potential here and they keep missing. read more

I've noticed lately that the customer service seems to be declining. I walked in to order and asked about a few food items and it seems that they were out of everything I wanted. I gave up and decided breakfast wasn't going to happen today and decided to just get a coffee. In the middle of me ordering the person behind the register walked away to talk to someone else. I waited for about a minute before walking out. There's coffee shops all over the place (like simply coffee across the street) where I can get the same thing and not have to deal with rude people. I've been here a couple of times and although a bit pricy I always enjoy the experience. I usually order the cold brew with coffee ice cubes. The flavor is bold but not too overpowering as other cold brews. I also had the quiche Lorraine and for me it was a bit too salty. The baristas are super welcoming and are more than willing to give you suggestions. The location is small but elegant.The atmosphere is lively and it is shared seating, also it is bit loud. There is free wifi so feel free to bring your gadgets. read more

Really cute café. As with most places in the LA area, be prepared for everyone to turn and look up at you from their laptops when you walk in. Good teas and really good but very expensive fresh juices. Nice bathroom, but it will take a bit of waiting to get to it. Good free water, and friendly staff. This place sounds like its just a coffee shop, and yes the espresso with whipped cream is too good to pass up, but it's oh-so-much more than a coffee shop. It's a cafe with tons of healthy eats. They recently had a special spring roll made with seared ahi tuna that was fucking incredible. Ask them to add avocado and it is a toe curling foodgasm. The salads are delicious, and soup selections as well. Highly recommended for lunch or a midday coffee and treat break. read more

Cool spot. It's always freezing in here and it's not very comfortable as far as ambiance but their coffee and Breakfast choices are good quality and hand made so it may be worth the extra coin if you're looking to eat as well. Love the vibe of Romancing the Bean. The pastries there look to die for, but I can't speak to them as I am gluten intolerant and can't eat anything that is made there. They do, however, bring in completely gluten free treats, individually wrapped, from a local bakery and from a cookie company, so if you are gluten free or have celiac disease and are craving a sweet treat with your coffee, look for these goods right by the register. The coffee is perfect! They serve organic groundworks coffee and, even black, it hits the spot. They also have a smooth French press. I haven't tried their espresso drinks but imagine they'd be great. Also, they DO serve food, and it always smells amazing and looks fantastic, but again...can't speak personally to that. If you're looking for a nice place to chill and do some work or meet a friend, this place has very cute décor, a relatively large space for a little café, and some tables and a bench outside. If you have dogs, there is a water bowl outside for your dogs. With the holidays around the corner, they put up pretty lights, which makes the place even cozier. Funny enough, this place is easy to miss even though it's right on Magnolia. With it's striped awning, it could be mistaken for a random shop, so keep that in mind. read more

We are always up for supporting our local up and coming dining areas. This Sunday morning we decided to venture out to Romancing the Bean because they received some good reviews....unfortunately it was not a good experience. Our first clue was when the hostess wasn't smiling, looked stressed and communication was an issue.....I ordered the 2 egg breakfast, scrambled well done with fruit and she asked me what I wanted in my burrito?! This was followed by waiting almost 30 minutes and being served runny eggs, spoiled fruit and wilted what I think was basil or supposed to be mint. Being in the industry it was obvious that there was a staffing issue happening however no energy, sense of urgency or even a leader trying to create teamwork.... So I quietly and politely walked up and returned my food to the woman behind the counter, I voiced my disappointed and she replied, "I'm sorry it didn't say well done".....That was her solution.....this was obviously not an employee who has been trained correctly or just didn't care. I will say the decor inside could create a great vibe, so 1 star it is...Customer experience is everything especially when you are having an off day, You just lost 10 customers who now in turn will give their opinions, unfortunate. read more

They serve Groundworks cold brew (which is legit) but not in the can (of which I was informed ver ver rudely of by the barista - more on her later - even tho the can is displayed the sign advertising the cold brew). The barista was rude. I didn't even find myself forgiving in light of her wonderful (unnamed...) accent - something that usually works to charm the pants right off mah body. The cafe is clean, hipster and nice. I cam here to study mid-day on a Friday. It's pretty busy with people who come to do work or study and customers who come to grab lunch. The ambiance over all is nice but the only thing I request for the loud music to be changed. I had a hard time hearing my own music over the store music. read more

ADORABLE! Strong coffee, good food, creative decor, friendly service. Yeah, it did seem a little pricey, but I guess I'm willing to pay a little more for the nicer, unique ambiance. It is just SO cute inside... I want their designer to come give me an apartment decor consultation. We were about to start a road trip, so we grabbed our coffees/breakfast to go, but I'd come back and would want to dine-in. The lox bagel was so good and no jipping on the salmon. If a crew could ever court the bitter, touchy and fragile bean of the coffee plant, it would be these guys. Hell, they should just get married already. You guys are just great together. I wanted to try a new coffee shop and get away from the awful chain stores in town, so my girl and I made the trek out to Burbank for a nice brew and tasty lunch. We happened upon Romancing the Bean as our second choice (our first was Simply Coffee, BUT they decided to close at 1pm... on a Sunday?). It's a good thing, too. Romancing the Bean has easily become one of our favorite coffee stops of all time and for several reasons. If you like iced coffee, stop reading this review and get that beautiful tuckus over there now. This stuff is too good for words. I'm a man who ruins his coffee with too much sugar because... the coffee I usually drink is just garbage that's screaming for flavor. Not the case here. I drank this iced coffee absolutely black! It had an amazing flavor profile that just hits all the right buttons. Bold yet smooth, slightly fruity with a smokey, warm finish. It tasted so good, in fact, that I drank my first glass much too quickly. Absolutely had to get one more serving for the road. The coffee paired wonderfully with my panini. Go for the Italian Hero; you won't be disappointed. Super fresh ingredients and fantastic cuts of Italian deli meats. The portion was just right. I felt satisfied and happy, as did my fiancee. Worth every penny. The atmosphere is simple and calming. No loud, blaring music (I'm looking at you, Starbucks) or uncomfortable seating. They provide half-booth tables with awesome, vintage-esque arm chairs for the non-booth half (that was me, and my butt was too thankful for them). They also had a beautiful wooden community table up front near the shop windows and a few chairs and umbrella tables outside for a street view. All quite lovely to be sure, but everyone was still squeezing into the half-booths (probably for those sweet arm chairs). But even more important than the food and coffee, I have to give a huge tip of the hat to this staff. Every member we met was so sincere, down to earth and accommodating. We were greeted with smiles on every encounter, and the manager himself stopped by to check on us and move any finished plates out of the way. Such a nice group of people. This is how a business should be run every time. I will definitely be recommending this place to others. It will likely become a regular haunt for the lady and I. First time here today. Kept hearing about the dirty chai so that's what I got. While I was waiting for my drink, I saw something that looked like trouble.... I tried to avoid it but it lured me in...a caramel blondie....big trouble. Good good trouble. The dirty chai came up and was insanely good. I've been here for breakfast a few times. It's the closest place to my work that's open this early and serves healthy-ish food.

Was expecting more from this place. Prices were pretty exorbitant for what we got. I got this cacao smoothie that was really good and also a quinoa salad. I had wanted to add some protien to any salad that I got, but the prices to do so sounded like a lot to me. This is why I ended up getting the quinoa salad without protein, thinking it would fill me up. The portion size was also very small for what we paid. The table which we sat at was also pretty dirty, even though it had been unoccupied for awhile and there was a line forming. I would have rather gone to Porto's. read more
