I decided to try out a new local business, so I ordered a late lunch from Ronnie's Catfish. I ordered through Grub hub and got my order within about 30-45 mins. I ordered the 4 piece fillet meal w/fries, and I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the fillets and amount of fries. The catfish was delicious well seasoned and the fries were tasty as well. My only criticism would be that I didn't see any other options other than fries, because I personally don't always want fries. I would love to see other sides like okra, coleslaw,salad, or even potato salad. Other than that ill definitely be ordering from Ronnie's Catfish and more again!!! read more

I went to the Mesquite location and was surprisingly pleased with how good the catfish was. I ordered the bigger nugget basket that came with toast and fries. The nuggets were a decent size, but I was expecting more pieces. The fries were topped with a seasoning that was pretty good and it didn't require additional dipping sauce. They have a spicy sauce that they charge for... they should at least give the 1st one free and charge any additional. This location had two people on staff, but were moving very efficiently; I waited 15 min max. I was warned ahead of time that they were cash only (Zelle or CashApp) so it wasn't a problem for me. All in all, it's a decent option for catfish in the Mesquite area. I wouldn't mind going back. read more

Horrible customer service. Only one worker had on a mask. The rest did not. Also I paid $12 for a large catfish nugget basket and got this little kiddie tray of food. They have a regular and large and she ensured when I showed her this was the large. A rip off. Plus the toast was burnt. And fries cold and soggy. DO NOT COME HERE! This place is "okay/so so" at best". The breading on the catfish was darker than Im used to which makes me think the oil needs to be changed. When I pulled in the parking lot I could smell that "old grease/oil" smell. Certain items on the menu are covered with signs, random postings so its hard to get a clear view of what they actually offer on the complete menu. When you enter it doesn't look clean, and it seems unkept and the flooring is gross. A place does not have to be fancy to be clean. Its costs little to nothing to keep a clean environment. I'm a believer that if what you see in front is "nasty"/unclean, just imagine whats happening in the back. Also the random signs on the wall and counter were outdated and one was rude "dont stand at the the counter, we will let you know when its ready". We got fried catfish, it was not anything I would want again, it had that slight muddy taste, and the grease needed changing, it tasted of grease that needed to be turned over. The fries were "so/so" and the salad I didn't eat, it had too many pickles and jalepenos for me to even want to try it. This is some of the most tasty catfish EVER!!! It was fried well and it's seasoned perfectly! I got the 4 piece with fries, toasted white bread, pickles, and a pepper. The price was great and the food was greater!! I will patronize this business again. read more

I went there and when I got home my order was not what I paid for. It was raining and I wasn't going back so I didn't bother to even call back. The fries were not done. Haven't been to Ronnie's in a minute but since they've gone up on the prices the fish is getting smaller and smaller order a catfish nugget basket large and they mistakenly gave me the wrong order gave me two big pieces of fish then when I took it back to get my order they acted as if they did not want to give me the correct order and that I would have to wait until they cook me some more fish but I was already running late on my lunch break had to get back to work so I took the catfish nugget basket that was there when I opened it the toast was not the bread was not toasted they didn't give me any Peppers pickles and onions like they normally do and the fish was cold just a rip off not worth buying or spending my money on at all read more

Never fails. Do they even need a review. This food is awesome. I would say call before hand and also be aware that one meal is a lot of food. They take orders over the phone and it's cash only in the restaurant so prepare to bring cash. Fish is always fresh but most times combos may be sold out for the day if you go late(anytime after 4P) same for desserts but I always recommend Ronnies to everyone visiting or those who just haven't been. On Friday, Lunch is always pack and you have to call in to order your food, you can wait up to 90 minutes. you can place your order at 11:15 if you call at 11:05 and they said we don't pick up call until 11:15 and hang up. This is my regular catfish Friday night spot. I frequent this location at least 2-3 times a month, or if I'm in the downtown area the one off of 2nd (across from the Fair Park). Definitely worth the drive to pick up some fish and enjoy at home on Friday or Saturday night in. I always opt for the 6 piece catfish fillet, which comes with fries (enough for 4-6 people), Texas toast, and some salad garnish if you choose to make a fish sandwich. Normally, they fry the fish to a light crisp. So sometimes I ask that my fish be fried a little extra cripsy, and so they do that. Cripsy to perfection, never overfried. A little tip: mix their tartar sauce and hot sauce together, and you will not need ketchup. There are other items on the menu, but when you find something so right, why try something else. You'll have to tell me how you enjoy their burgers, chops, fish tails, or link basket. MY BIGGEST PLUS FOR RONNIE'S ASIDE FROM GREAT FRIED FISH IS THAT of the 10+ years I have been eating at Ronnie's I don't ever recall getting bad fish, or my order scewed up. It is for sure an "in and out" place. I would not recommend eating at the place. Just call your order in and go pick up. Be sure to crack your windows on the trek back home, aside from being tempted to tear open the bag before you get home, the smell will stay in your car. read more

I'm sorry. I cannot jump on the five-star band wagon. I am annoyed that a 4 piece is almost a $3.00 difference from a 3 piece filet. WTH? I'm annoyed that their filets are these thin strips, four of which probably make up one actual whole filet. OK that was an exaggeration, but I'm sure they're at least cutting them in half. And I'm annoyed that they only take cash. I understand that it cuts down costs for them but come on. It's 2013. I have to make an extra stop at the ATM just to eat here. Didn't Ronnie's used to serve hush puppies? What happened to those? I remember they had the stick hush puppies. I like the fact that they at least give you the price WITH tax already included. They have ok fish considering the filets are not filets as small as they are. Called order in at 12:02 pm and arrived at 12:24. Was told it would be 20-25 minutes. Got there and the lady rudely stated I told you 20-25 minutes. Asked when it would be ready and rudely stated I don't know. Customer service is absolute the worse I have encountered. Great food; Don't expect seating...defiantly a take out place! CASH ONLY! Fillets come with lettuce tomatoes pickles peppers toasted bread! Fried shrimps are amazing!!! If you say this fish is the best you've ever had, you must haven't had any catfish at all. This Fish was very bad. Over cooked and very small pieces. I can care less about receiving a tail, as long as the tail has meat on it. The service was horrible. When I placed my order the woman who answered the phone was very rude. When I got there to pick up my order she very rude. I called the store to let them know about the burnt up fish, the lady was rude and hung up in my face. Excellent Customer Service! I went to Ronnie's for the 1st time in years this week. I met who appeared to be a member of management named DeMarlo. She advised me when I arrived that she was out of a few menu items but quickly offered alternatives. She was very nice and I loved her spirit and demeanor. I ordered a 6 piece bone in fish (steaks) which came with fries, salad, toast, peppers, and plenty of condiments. I inquired about a few other items for future reference then went to my car to wait for my order. DeMarlo brought my order to my car and delivered it to me and gave me a free jumbo shrimp to taste. Let me start out by saying that I am a black woman from Louisiana, I love most of my people and I try really hard to support them. However, black businesses make it very difficult to support them. For example, I went to Ronnie's last Saturday night with a friend from out of town who was craving fish. I told her about Ronnie's and we were both so excited. We pull into the parking lot at 8:15 pm. We go to the door to open it as someone is locking it from the inside with no explanation...just locked us out and I know they dont close at 8:15! Well so we decided to go a few doors down to another black owned business and they served us refried, burnt pork chops. So today I decided to try Ronnie's again at 5 after I left work. I called the order in so that (1) I could stop at the ATM on my way since they dont accept cards and (2) to avoid being there for any considerable amount of time because they don't have an air conditioner and in Texas that is unheard of!!! Well, the ride lady who answered the phone said she couldn't take my phone order because I have a Louisiana cell phone number. Well, that's the last straw. I will never return! read more
