Houston (that's the Barkeeps name) pots a proper Black & Tan!

Great little pub for your favorite pint! And they open early for Premier Leauge matches!!

---Dearest Reader, I've got friends in low places, where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away, and I'll be okay...as long as I'm at Ron's Pub. If you're looking for a gastro pub or a fancy mixology bar, this is not for you. If you're looking for good company and a good crowd with an even better staff (management to behind the bar), this is the spot for you. If you're put off by darts, golden tee, regulars and a retro vibe, this is not for you. If you're made uncomfortable by any of this, not for you. However, if you're willing to embrace and become part of a tight knit and welcoming group of regular patrons, Ron's is the place for you. There are so many welcoming, unique, eclectic but genuine patrons that frequent this watering hole (including myself) that make it a hidden treasure amongst the Houston bar scene. ---Bottoms up

I really enjoyed this pub. My friend and I came in late after wanting to check out the spot on a random weekday. The good think they are located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The location is right next to Cliffs burgers and across the street from a HEB. The only down fall about this place is they don't serve food but they do allow you to bring in food. I also went to Cliffs burger next door and the delivered to me in the pub. This place allows smoking on the patio and they have a wide range of beers on tap. I felt the drink prices were very affordable and the crowd is neighborhood relaxed. Overall I would definitely come back it a low key dive bar. Definitely worth stopping by if your in the area.

I hate to be the oddball yelper and had been the one to receive less than stellar experience but I cannot explain why and what happened. Came here on a Thursday night with a fem friend and did not know what to expect. I envisioned it as a semi quiet place but boy was I way off. Besides the what seemed college frat crowd in the 2nd part of the bar in the back that could be heard loud and clear with their cheers the music in the first part would have one almost having to talk at an uncomfortable decibel or cup your hand and speak to someone's ears. If you like semi loud to little loud then here is your place. Strike 1. Got to the bar part and was not sure what we wanted I asked my friend what was her poison, she felt like a draft so we took a small moment to view the somewhat dozen draft beers offered. She had the Heineken which she said was nice and cold while I felt like a Guinness (draft). I think there might have been a problem with the line because the 1" head of beer that I got turned into more than 3/4 of the glass or more like 6 inches of it. See photo to see what I am talking about and how this was served to me. I must have had 50 Guinnesses in my life and have never been served anything more than 2 inches from the top, is this the new in? No worries, wait 3 minutes for suds to go down and play catch up with your partner. Strike 2 Bartender.... I hope this was not "Ron" but this had to have been the most stoic bartender that I have EVER run upon in my life. Remember the look of the soup Nazi in "that" sitcom everybody knows about? Well I found out where he works now, at least for this particular night. We felt as if we were doing a disservice to here by trying out a place that I heard a lot of good things about. I conferred with my friend about this and she agreed that it seemed as maybe we didn't belong in "the neighborhood" bar where everybody else knows someone else. Strike 3 As far as some of the reviewers saying it was a sausage fest here I felt there was a fair amount of females here to negate that for that night. I think we counted at least 8 including my friend in contrast to the about 30 males here. Also be prepared to pay about $11.50 just for two draft beers, I forgot the price of my somewhat favorite Richmond Arms Pub but at least you get some semi smiling female bartenders to tend to you. Like I said, I know I am going against the grain and I really did want this to be at least a 4 star experience since it's a block away from work but I think I'll pass up 20 bars/pubs to get at least one decent experience at any place. Mouldoon's Patio was our friend that night (semi quiet). Hate me if you will and I probably will get a lot of hate messages but rest assured you will be ignored. I have a right just to my opinion on my experience and I know you probably didn't like it if your a regular Ron's Pub crowd. Forgive me Ron, nothing personal.

    Happy St. Patty's Day!

The food is very good - a mix of pub fare and authentic Irish to match the atmosphere. We particularly love the cheese curds, potato skins and loaded baked potato soup, but the shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage, and fall off the bone lamb shank are just as good. The true surprise is the pizza - by far the best in Houston! They recently brought in darts and pool tables, and regularly host trivia and karaoke! Rarely do you find a place that feels like home, but the staff is wonderful and welcoming and the vibes are right. We can't recommend it enough!

The location at Kirkwood Rd and Westheimer Rd is over 20 years. It goes to show that when Houston "updates" a business, they spare no expense. The shopping center is 30 years old but updated every 5 years. Other main tenant is SPEC's Liquor and Wine Retail store just 100 feet away. The rehab team did a great job. The place was getting a bit seedy -- but now the floor plan is opened up and MORE LARGE SCREEN TV's THAN A BUFFALO WINGS store. And even with the rehab the owners have kept prices in "reason". One thing I like is TWO HAPPY HOURS -- great idea in Houston where thousands of us work shifts in Oil & Gas, Medical / Hospitals and Space Center JSC. The first Happy is 5-7p and the 2nd is 9p to ?? Closing. Kitch is also great food and open until 9 or so. We know Westheimer is the real MAIN ST of Houston and Bull has a lot of competion but they don't forget customer service and good food there. The husband is outside grilling everything on what looks like a standard home grill while the wife is taking orders. Orders go out in batches. They're definitely efficient and work as fast as they can, but with that comes a little abruptness- they aren't the friendliest, but they're focused on getting everyone fed. We got there at 7:05 and didn't get our food until 8:25. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely. The steak was tender and juicy. The lamb chop was charred perfectly. And surprisingly enough, the sausage was my favorite. It was JUICY. When you bite into it, the juices literally burst out. Something had a little kick to it... it wasn't the sauce, but I actually liked it. The jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes were also great.
