Houston (that's the Barkeeps name) pots a proper Black & Tan!

Great little pub for your favorite pint! And they open early for Premier Leauge matches!!

---Dearest Reader, I've got friends in low places, where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away, and I'll be okay...as long as I'm at Ron's Pub. If you're looking for a gastro pub or a fancy mixology bar, this is not for you. If you're looking for good company and a good crowd with an even better staff (management to behind the bar), this is the spot for you. If you're put off by darts, golden tee, regulars and a retro vibe, this is not for you. If you're made uncomfortable by any of this, not for you. However, if you're willing to embrace and become part of a tight knit and welcoming group of regular patrons, Ron's is the place for you. There are so many welcoming, unique, eclectic but genuine patrons that frequent this watering hole (including myself) that make it a hidden treasure amongst the Houston bar scene. ---Bottoms up

I really enjoyed this pub. My friend and I came in late after wanting to check out the spot on a random weekday. The good think they are located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The location is right next to Cliffs burgers and across the street from a HEB. The only down fall about this place is they don't serve food but they do allow you to bring in food. I also went to Cliffs burger next door and the delivered to me in the pub. This place allows smoking on the patio and they have a wide range of beers on tap. I felt the drink prices were very affordable and the crowd is neighborhood relaxed. Overall I would definitely come back it a low key dive bar. Definitely worth stopping by if your in the area.

I hate to be the oddball yelper and had been the one to receive less than stellar experience but I cannot explain why and what happened. Came here on a Thursday night with a fem friend and did not know what to expect. I envisioned it as a semi quiet place but boy was I way off. Besides the what seemed college frat crowd in the 2nd part of the bar in the back that could be heard loud and clear with their cheers the music in the first part would have one almost having to talk at an uncomfortable decibel or cup your hand and speak to someone's ears. If you like semi loud to little loud then here is your place. Strike 1. Got to the bar part and was not sure what we wanted I asked my friend what was her poison, she felt like a draft so we took a small moment to view the somewhat dozen draft beers offered. She had the Heineken which she said was nice and cold while I felt like a Guinness (draft). I think there might have been a problem with the line because the 1" head of beer that I got turned into more than 3/4 of the glass or more like 6 inches of it. See photo to see what I am talking about and how this was served to me. I must have had 50 Guinnesses in my life and have never been served anything more than 2 inches from the top, is this the new in? No worries, wait 3 minutes for suds to go down and play catch up with your partner. Strike 2 Bartender.... I hope this was not "Ron" but this had to have been the most stoic bartender that I have EVER run upon in my life. Remember the look of the soup Nazi in "that" sitcom everybody knows about? Well I found out where he works now, at least for this particular night. We felt as if we were doing a disservice to here by trying out a place that I heard a lot of good things about. I conferred with my friend about this and she agreed that it seemed as maybe we didn't belong in "the neighborhood" bar where everybody else knows someone else. Strike 3 As far as some of the reviewers saying it was a sausage fest here I felt there was a fair amount of females here to negate that for that night. I think we counted at least 8 including my friend in contrast to the about 30 males here. Also be prepared to pay about $11.50 just for two draft beers, I forgot the price of my somewhat favorite Richmond Arms Pub but at least you get some semi smiling female bartenders to tend to you. Like I said, I know I am going against the grain and I really did want this to be at least a 4 star experience since it's a block away from work but I think I'll pass up 20 bars/pubs to get at least one decent experience at any place. Mouldoon's Patio was our friend that night (semi quiet). Hate me if you will and I probably will get a lot of hate messages but rest assured you will be ignored. I have a right just to my opinion on my experience and I know you probably didn't like it if your a regular Ron's Pub crowd. Forgive me Ron, nothing personal.

    Happy St. Patty's Day!

As you walk in, you'll be greeted by the 70's/80's/90's bar music of rock/disco and chessboard floor pattern. Then you get your drink order from one of the many pleasant bartenders (or Louie) and sit either inside or outside and think to yourself you're the luckiest person in the world. So they specialize in three things: cocktails/liquors, cigars, and patio seating. When you combine all three of those, it's the perfect bar. Cocktails such as ol fashions and cape cods are plentiful here. I also appreciate they do a new york sour here which is an underrated cocktail. Cigars are sold here too and they have cutters and plenty of torch lighters to spark them up. Outside on their patio deck has plenty of seating with some of those heaters in case you houstonians can't handle the cold. Only gripe is I wish they had a larger wine selection as they only have bordeuax or a red blend. Not sure if they serve white wines either. But there's wine bars for that. You're here for the hard stuff or a quick beer, maybe a cigar, and definitely a peace of mind. That's what keeps me coming back!

Before that, I remember the baguette bread and very well-seasoned meat, etc. These were the closest to ones from Philly, bc even to this day, other places often make atrocious Philly sandwiches. I went here recently a few times for the first time in 5 years. I ordered the 6 inch Back Home Philly with no cheese, plus a side of tomatoes togo. The bread was more of a soft, dense and slightly chewier type rather than crispier version like the former baguettes. It was still a great bread option resembling one you'd get from an authentic Philly sandwich. The onions n mushrooms were obviously great n cooked well adding more excitement in taste. The tomatoes were nicely cool n refreshing with some contrast to the warm saltiness of this sub. The meat itself was seasoned enough and tender in every bite. Not as deep in seasoning as years ago, but still definitely done right. It was a delicious, fresh and comforting sandwich and would definitely come here for it at times when craving a Philly steak. I would say Jake's and Philly Flats are the only ones like the real thing down here. I do prefer the seasoning from Jake's even more tbh. Great, very welcoming and efficient service on these visits.

Well, it turns out, there was a World Cup soccer match going on. The place nearly cleared out after the game was over. Anyhow, when the place was packed it was very loud. But once it cleared out, not bad. Upon arrival I learned the hard way that it's open seating. I stood at the entrance for about 5 minutes and then was told to find whatever open seat I could find. We mainly went for drinks but decided "what the heck" and ordered food. The buffalo wings were good but not great. Same with the Marinara pizza. I was impressed with the size and the crust was pretty good. I suggest adding jalapeños to it. We also ordered a sushi roll (who knew you could order that and they just get it from Sushi on Post Oak next door). That roll was pretty good but also very pricey. Overall, pretty good experience and I'll be back. Parking lot is also large with plenty of spaces which I appreciate.
