I contacted Roofing Craftsman for an inspection that was required by my insurance company. I spoke with Leah who was fantastic and fully understood the urgency. The professionalism and integrity shown by Jose Escalante of Roof Repair Craftsman is laudable. We bought a fixer house and identified the roof as one of many areas that might need repair or replacement. I was not looking forward to finding out what the roof issues and cost would be as it was an asphalt shingle roof installed 13 years prior by someone who was not a professional roofer. I was expecting the worst. My fingers were crossed that Jose could do high quality repair - rather than my needing to reroof the entire house. To my surprise things turned out better than I could have hoped! Jose reported that yes, the gutters were toast but there was only one small area where a few shingles had lifted; why was I having my roof inspected? I presumed there would be more damage on the roof. Not at all he informed us and explained why the roof was in good shape. Quick, reasonably priced and friendly. We are getting ready to sell our house and there has been a leak. I thought I had repaired it last year, but it was back this year. We needed a new roof and we had 3 companies out to provide us with estimates. Jose was the lowest estimate and he said they could start the work within two weeks depending on how long it took to get the permit. After signing the agreement (on a Friday I believe) I got a call from Jose saying they could start on the following Tuesday. We had a conflict and asked it they could start on Wednesday, and he agreed. The job was completed by Saturday. And there were intermittent times of rain or drizzle. The crew was friendly and they kept me informed as to what was going on with my roof and when they were leaving. Every day they cleaned up around the house. They used the same product as what the other two companies said they were going to use. Even though they did the job quickly, they didn't cut corners or skimp on materials. I know Jose would be available if I had the need to call him or ask questions, but there was no need. Several contractors visited us and asked how old my cement tile roof was, and upon hearing "40 years with several minor to moderate leaks" they al insisted I needed a whole new roof replacement at costs of $60K or more. But not Jose Escalante with Roof Repair Craftsmen! He was the only one who Actually inspected the roof up close - and he said we could do much better with targetted repairs and boy did he sure did deliver! Excellent work by friendly, highly professional and prompt craftsmen did the trick for a small fraction of the cost! We didn't fill up some landfill with perfectly good tiles and the whole job took relatively little time to complete. During a rainstorm, he came out checked our roof then crawled into our attic and told us that it was not a roofing problem but more plumbing issue. He didn't charge us for his time! I reached out to Jose after discovering a small leak that was coming from my flat rooftop deck. I had reached out to a few other roofing companies and Jose ended up being the most responsive. He came out to access the damage a few days after I made the call and the leak was fixed within a week. We made an appointment two weeks ago for Jose to give us a bid on garage roof replacement in Stinson Beach. We confirmed the appointment in the morning of the scheduled day. I drove out there to meet him from Berkeley, but he didn't show up. I waited an hour. No explanation. Very frustrating waste of time, and loss of work. Update 8/14/18 It turned out Jose did go out. I was 9 minutes late due to major road repairs on panoramic highway. My phone carrier doesn't cover Stinson beach or I would have called. The house was supposed to be empty. In fact there were short term renters there who told Jose they knew nothing about our meeting. So he left right away. read more

I waited a few years to write this review because that's how long it takes to know if a roofer did a good job. Jose came and looked at our roof, which was a mess - we shared a roof with a neighbor and it was 1/2 replaced 18 years prior. There were issues with drains and posts which were causing leaks all over. I got an estimate for a complete re-roof and one for a strategic patch and repair job. Being tight on funds, I took the latter. Jose brought some very experienced workers who re-constructed some parts of the roofing, patched others, and left the area clean. The price was more than fair, I got an estimate right away, and the work started and completed promptly. So here we are a few years later and the roof is great - five stars. Jose is also bright, personable, and a straight-shooter. My experience with other roofers over the years has been the opposite. Jose has easily become our favorite person to work with. Recommended to us by a skylight specialist, we first lucked out with getting Jose's help last year when we bought our house and needed some patch up work on the shingle roof as well as replacement of some cracked skylights over a breezeway. While in the process of getting an estimate, we had a roof leak pop up & Jose responded immediately and was able to come by the next day to get everything patched up. He then helped with fixing up all of the previously mentioned stuff with the roof, helped us get brand new skylights and install them correctly on our tar & gravel breezeway (unlike what had been on there before), and did an amazing job, delivering just as promised - all with a smile. Recently, we were redoing our roof deck and realized we should probably get the roof checked out to ensure everything looked good before building the new deck. Professional from the very beginning, Jose and his team worked with us on meeting our budget and finished the job (which included the removal and re-installation of 16 solar panels, something most of the roofers I got quotes from put the burden of responsibility on the homeowner) in the predicted time frame. Communication was responsive before and during job, and issues were resolved quickly. We did have a problem with the replacement of a couple skylights where their contractor didn't communicate with us and failed to take the measurements so that it pushed back the installation by a month. In that time, the original skylights were misaligned when re-installed and caused a leak the next time it rained, but Jose had his guys out the next day to address the issue by wrapping them in plastic sheeting and duct tape until the custom skylights arrived. Low tech but worked! Overall, I'd give 4.5 stars (I'd knock off 1/2 star for the skylight leak issue and some communication lapses once final payment was made, but really came through in the end) and would highly recommend to others. read more

As a result of the heavy rain these past months, I noticed stains and water bubbles on my bathroom ceiling and the master bedroom. I didn't know if it was a roof leaking or something to do with my attic that dripped the water down creating those stains and moisture. I got this poster from Roofing Craftsmen that I saved and immediately called. The receptionist Kevin and Leah were so accommodating and scheduled me for a free inspection. Soon enough, Jose called and came to the house, not only did he make a thorough inspection on the roof, but he made an extra mile to go to the attic and checked the interior as well. I was very appreciative and very thankful of Jose's honesty and told me my roof was fine. He explained it was the bathroom fan that was causing the water to stick on the ceiling. When I decided that more work than initially discussed would be needed, he returned to remeasure and revise his quote.
