I was craving sushi, and decided I'd give Room 112 a chance, mainly due to how close it is to my office. (On a side note - please don't tell my pregnant wife that I had sushi, she's been craving it and can't have it!) I had read some negative reviews about "employees not cleaning up, playing on their phones, etc." and the management is *trying* to do something about this. (See photo) However, even during the lunch rush, I noticed two of the staff checking their phones while others were working and there were tables to clear. Thankfully, my server, Chrystal, was NOT one of these two. She was hustling the entire time I was there, had refilled my water seconds after I set it down, and was cleaning and working hard. Kudos to her! I sat at the bar, had my drink in minutes, and the special, a Tsunami roll, just a few minutes after ordering. I was in and out in about 25 minutes, which is always nice when a lunch break needs to be quick. The tsunami roll was on par with other rolls I've had, maybe a little smaller on the portions than some restaurants, although the salmon didn't look too fresh. Maybe it was just the presentation, as everything tasted fine. Good solid sushi place, been many times. Never have gotten anything but sushi and appetizers so can't comment on other dishes. Regular rolls, spider roll, firecracker roll, shrimp tempura based rolls all 4.5 to 5 stars. The only roll I haven't cared for is the Room 112 roll, I think it was made well but flash fried tuna is not so great. Bar offerings are basic and both the waitstaff and bartender are often clueless. Great little asian restaurant tucked away in the First Citizen bank building. One thing to note is this place is small and not a restaurant to have a party that's bigger than 4. The menu offers a great selection of traditional chinese, Japanese, sushi and thai food. The portion was large and it was so good my boyfriend ate the entire dish! I went to this restaurants on queen fest restaurants week and the food was good. Our pre fixed meal came with a glass of wine which I loved. The place is small. The service was good and attentive. They were able to accommodate something extra in our meal that was removed from the menu at the restaurants. Thank you for the great service. I didn't give 5 stars because the noodles were uncooked. When They mentioned fried noodle, I thought it was cooked noodles that was fried hard after but it taste like Roman noodle that wasn't boiled at all and toast in oil. I really like the privacy this location offers. It's hidden in Uptown so it's not super busy or loud. We were greeted when we walked in but I did wish there was a little more energy from employees. The firecracker sushi was really good and I thought the beer prices were really good for an uptown location ($3-$4 a bottle). Our waitress Leanne (sp) was nice but definitely not energetic, very impersonal in a way. We received our drinks , food, water etc so not much to complain about. The food was ok but not great. Room 112 is always good with bomb Sushi.. today I came on lunch and tried the firecracker and just Pete which were both very good as you can see the clean plate in the photos.. I really like the fact they have a good amount of raw and cooked sushi options. Where room 112 loses it for me is there service, it always seems to be lacking in some area. This particular day I felt the waitress wasn't as upbeat.. & as I placed my order I noticed a eye roll when I went to make a modification to the order.. Fish isn't as fresh as the high rating would suggest. Uni looks like it was the last scrapes. I think people drink more than eat here. Sat at the bar to watch the sushi be made. Not as open as most sushi bars. Couldn't really see much. Like they're hiding something. Came over because it was in walking distance to my hotel and open late. Two entrances/exits. I conquered the sushi at Room 112 today. I got the Caterpillar roll and spicy tuna hand roll and both were fresh and tasty. The have an awesome selection of rolls as was surprised to see more than just one vegetarian item. They have sushi lunch combo's along with cheap rolls-most were in the $6-$10 range, I dig that. Service was pretty beat this time around-it could be because of the influx of people out for lunch or NCAA crowd but it was pretty bad. As much as I hate to say it I experienced my first incidence of truly terrible service at Room 112 today at lunch. (3/7/13) I went at noon. It was packed with diners. I again sat at the sushi bar. I was given a menu & a ginger ale. I had to ask for the ginger ale as my waitress wasn't there. The waitress I did get was terrible. It took her 10 minutes to take my order & I had to get her attention by getting another server involved. The sushi itself was delicious. I ordered salmon, yellowtail, white tuna & scallop. I also ordered a passion roll. The passion roll had an interesting texture due to being wrapped in soy paper versus rice. Unfortunately it had no flavor whatsoever. I was looking forward to the roll based on the comments of other Yelpers. What a shame. The waitress asked if I wanted a refill on my drink when I had two pieces of sushi left on my plate. Really good. My husband and I went on a Saturday night and it wasn't so full around the time we went in. So it was pretty nice. We ordered the California roll, the super crunchy, the Philadelphia, the other California roll,two spring rolls, and a sex on the beach. I dislike leaving negative reviews. Ordered wonton soup(very salty), Scallops Yaki(overcooked and sent back, but they came out 10 minutes after I finished my entree, I was under the impression they would have been removed from my check), and an Upper Manhattan Roll(no bad). Service is lousy. There were three waitresses standing behind the counter chatting and texting on their cell phones, completely ignoring the patrons in the restaurant. So had just wrapped up a gig in Charlotte and as part of my year tenure in Charlotte, I had tried many places for food including Room 112. It was conveniently located next to the office building I had to work out of and it was a place where I knew I could grab food quickly as the service is quick. On top of this, it is probably one of the very few sushi joints in the uptown area so it adds a check mark for convenience. The joint itself is fairly small with only a small sushi bar spot with 5 stools and then tables to serve around 30ish people total within the restaurant itself. The servers here are all nice and I am grateful that they would always remember my drink order. I would always get the tuna tartare with avocado and then an eclectic mix of sashimi. During my many times here, I have had the tuna, salmon, mackerel, uni (when available), and the list goes on. The appetizer is simple and comes drizzled with a tasty sauce. It is standard fare and a nice starting dish. For all the sashimi, I think the quality is OK. Some days it is better and other days it does taste a "bit fishy" with that after frozen feel to it. The ratio of fish to rice is solid which is appreciated but I think the biggest hurdle is that their inventory of sashimi is hit or miss depending on the week you go. There have been many times where they have not had a few of the cuts of fish that I wanted which I understand as I am sure sashimi is not a "big thing" in Charlotte given the demographics. The rolls (although I have not had any) look good and lots of people seem to order that vs what I was ordering. All in all, Room 112 was an OK spot that is certainly convenient. Definitely worth checking out for the lunch time as there seem to be many specials making it a good deal for professionals. read more

This place is one of my favorites. It's walking distance from my house and has a large menu selection. Me and my roommate go often because it's not too busy during the week. I usually get the tuna tartar, wonton soup, a spring roll and the rainbow chicken. Everything I've had there has been great. The only issue I have is that it seems like the restaurant closes early often or that they can't take to go orders. Because it's connected to an office building they have to close early sometimes to accommodate cleanings and other repairs. My other concern is that there are a lot of people that hangout outside of the building that tend to be in a different mindset (if you catch my drift) so my roommate and I try to not go when it gets too dark. read more

This is my all time to go place for sushi when I'm in Charlotte for work. Today marks my 5th time here in the past year alone. I really wanted to give this place a 5 stars but my meal today did not live my expectations. The good: I came in with a group of 7 people and we were seated right away without any fuss. The time it took from ordering and receiving the food didn't take that long for a medium size group like ours. Both of my rolls and sashimi were pretty fresh, which is a MUST for any sushi restaurants. The atmosphere here was pretty trendy and casual. The bad: for some reason the seaweed in my sushi roll was a bit hard chew, which was something I never noticed before in any sushi rolls I had, and I am an avid sushi lover. Located at the corner of Trade and Tryon (the Square in uptown) - Room 112 is a little hidden directly to the right of the waterfall in small public park at the square. I met several friends there, very small place and the servers were very attentive and kept the sushi and drinks flowing all evening. Love the steak tataki roll..one of the best rolls I have ever had and was able to finish the whole thing. Delicious. I originally ordered the pad thai, which was awful! Do not order it! It is very disappointing. The waitress was very nice and quickly replaced it. She said many people think it tastes different from the traditional. The side salad and dressing was amazing. I came to Room 112 on 4th of July for dinner with my gf given that they were one of the only places open on a holiday. The food was subpar. My gf ordered a Sweet Potato Roll, Avocado Roll, and Crispy Tofu. The crispy tofu is literally bland tofu fried. We attempted to make the tofu tasty by dipping it into multiple sauces but nothing worked. As you can imagine, we definitely did not finish it nor did we pack the rest for home. The sushi itself was okay. Some rolls were tasty but the others were not. The service was quick luckily since there were only 1 or 2 diners other that ourselves. I don't recommend. read more

Room 112 is a small restaurant nestled behind the Thomas Polk park. In other words it may be a little difficult to find if you are not familiar with the restaurant or area. I went for lunch and walked in to see several tables dirty. We waited for someone to wipe off a table so we could be seated. I was a little shocked to see so many dirty tables being that the restaurant was not full and they had a good amount of waitstaff. Nevertheless the food is relatively good and quick to arrive. Best spicy tuna roll in Charlotte, hands down. Room 112 is my favorite sushi in Uptown and ranks highly for me in Charlotte overall. It's great for lunch, though often busy. Go early or be prepared to wait in the adjoining lobby. The sushi combo lunch can't be beat: two maki rolls and a side salad for $9. I can't speak to the rest of the menu as I'm always in the sushi mindset when I visit, but everything that comes out of the kitchen looks wonderful. For my fellow gluten free diners, they carry GF soy sauce and aren't stingy at all with serving it. I've been fortunate to have consistently great service at Room 112. I've gone for rushed lunches and leisurely dinners in parties of two to six and have found that my servers have been in tune with our pace each time. Never had a saki bomb until then..........not bad........should keep that on my drinking list for the future.
