My all time favorite store best Indian store in USA I will recommend people to shop here n be happy

This Place Sucks! They don't deserve even a single star. Extremely poor and rude customer service. I called the owner Mr. Khatri to tell him that when I took the lehenga for alteration the tailor said it's not possible to do it because of the intricate hand work and asked him what my options were to return or exchange, he was just rude and asked me to go find another tailor!!! Of course I hung up coz I hate to even continue a conversation with people with such a despicable attitude. If you want to take my advice, Sari Palace next door is a much nicer place to shop and I recommend you first check them out. read more

They deserve no stars. I purchased an outfit only because they said they could alter it and add long sleeves to it. I specifically said that I would only buy it if they could alter it correctly and add sleeves. The lady confirmed she would do so. When I went back for the outfit and asked to try it on they said they were closing. I went home and tried it on, the sleeves did not even reach my wrists. They only tightened it by the stomach and the cloth was hanging from the side in the chest area. The stomach area was so tight that I couldn't even zip it. The work in the chest area was all lop sided and not in the center anymore. And the pajama did not fit correctly. They did a terrible job. I went and asked for a refund and the son was terribly rude. I showed this older lady photos and the son kept on yelling to try it on. I tried it on and the lady laughed as to how bad it was sewn. The lady who sewed it said, I did not have enough cloth for the sleeves. If I knew that I would never had purchased it. They lied to me. Then when I came back to the front the lady said you can get it altered somewhere else and that they would not return it. Lying and deceiving people and selling things on false pretenses is wrong. By far the worst customer service ever. The young owners son or whoever he is was the rudest man. We went to Sari boutique to purchase something and the lady had to call him from Roopam to give us a price. We asked him to lower it just a little bit because we were buying over 3 things and he said I left the other store don't waste my time. He told the elderly lady that works there off and told her next time don't call me. What kind. Of store is it? They don't have workers in the other store? Maybe they should hire some so customers don't get instulter. Pramesh grabbed the cloths I was going to purchase And throw it and walked out of the store. If you want good service do not go to Roopam or Sari boutique. They will insult you. Pranesh the worker a young man has no respect for his orders or his customers. He insulted us as customers he have been going to that store for years.. If you want to get insulted or get your cloths you were getting purchased thrown then your welcomed to go. read more

The customer service here was terrible. The sales man was so rude and his prices were ridiculous. They clothes weren't even that nice and there was not much selection. They were too expensive for cheap quality. Don't shop at Roopam sarees, go to sari palace instead. They have much more variety and much better customer service! read more

actually 4.5. i needed a salwar kameez for an event-----and since i am plus sized i was filled with trepidation that i wouldn't find anything suitable. based on the recs of my fellow yelpers, this is the place i picked. i immediately saw that the customers were rthnically diverse, and the prices were more than reasonable. the first saleslady i spoke to didnt know much english, but she immediately got another lady to help me. saleslady #2 was patient, sweet, and very kind to go through the racks and and also pull stuff out of the backroom for me to try on. with her help i found something very nice to wear-----yeah! i was pleased with my purchase--------thank you nice saleslady #2. read more

Expensive clothes and bad service. My mom suffers from pancreatic issues so she really needed to use the bathroom and they would not let her. She ended up soiling herself. This was after my sis spent over a thousand dollars on clothes. Personally I will not shop there anymore but I know a few stupid girls who get sucked in by the attention they give when they see a sucker walking in. I absolutely LOVE ROOPAM. Wherever I go, like sari palace, Bollywood fashion, or even tanvis and don't get me started on SHEETAL FASHIONS(if I had a gun.....) -I get no attention and I feel like its my age(I'm 21) so I feel they think I won't spend so much but anyyyywwayyys.... I live in Sacramento and I rarely ever go to Berkeley since its so far, but I couldn't be any happier that roopam is now here! You don't understand, I've been a customer since I was 5, YES LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, SINCE 5! My whole family has been going there since. As for uncle (owner), He is a total sweetheart, I told him my limit and he specifically went to the back and grabbed the most beautiful sari I have laid eyes on, as if he knew off the bat what I was looking for, and THE CHERRY ON TOP, they have layaway! The owners of this store are unbelievably rude and arrogant. I can't believe they are still in business after the way they treat their customers. If you don't make a purchase from they, they treat you really badly by making rude comments. They are not willing to help you to find what you may like. I would warn people who are not familiar with shopping for indian clothes to avoid this place because they will definately rip you off even though you may feel like you are getting a good deal. This place sucks for multiple reasons. I bought a saree for my wife the other day. I dint realize that I should bargain before I buy any thing here. Anywayz, I told the dark looking older dude with a gortee that my wife may not like it and I may have to return it. He was all happy when he sold me the over priced saree. So when my wife dint like the saree, we came back to exchange it to something else. This dude is now all mad. He kept telling me no refunds or exchanges. We had to return home with same saree. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. There are lot of other nice shops in the vicinity. Check them out....BE WARNED about these idiots. read more

Lovely store, good selection of merchandise. The staff was wonderful! Bubla (spelling is probably way wrong! Sorry!) found exactly the salwar kameez I was looking for, and then she immediately put sleeves on and customized the fit. Everyone was so friendly and warm. Good prices, too! Since I am getting married in the upcoming month and was in a dire need of a bridal wear I was suggested by my sister to go to Berkeley to hunt in Indian stores. The brand Roopam is quiet well known back home in India (Mumbai). Please bear in mind this store has NO AFFILIATION whatsoever with the real BRAND "Roopam". My Experience: I walked in with clearly what I was in need of. The owner welcomed me with a smile. The place wasn't too crowded even though it was a week before Eid (Muslim Festival). Anyways none of the sales ladies were available for the first 8 minutes, when I approached one asking for showing me a bridal wear, her question was, "is it for you?", I replied, "yes", to which she asked, "you are all by yourself and no help?" I replied, since I know what I want, it would be great if you could show me what you have. She didn't seem too pleased to show me anything I had to insist on pulling out shades I found to be attractive, after only 5 minutes of showing me stuff, she asks, "Are you looking to buy or just browse and leave"? That's when she had pushed me too far, my response was polite and yet stern, "I would buy only if you show me stuff, if you are busy or not interested, please point me to somebody who would assist". After the last conversation it was still quite a task to get any shopping done with the sales personnel's at this place. MORAL OF THE STORY IS - If you want them to assist you, show some respect or even give the time in the day, you go in a BIG GROUP. On Sunday, i had gone to berkeley for shopping. I had bought a saree for my wife. The people are very helpfull and to my knowledge, they are very professionally in what they are doing. What I found out is that when you tell the store keeper honestly that you want to buy something, they really do want to help. We do make mistakes sometimes by saying that we are just looking but really we are there to buy. One of the salesman there corrected me and i had spent some 800.00 at a very very good price. I absolutely loved my shopping experience at Roopam Sarees. I have been invited to my first Indian wedding ceremony and was nervous about shopping for outfits because I wear larger sizes and am on a budget. I was pleased to see that the positive reviews here were pretty spot on. Not only did I find plenty of salwar kameez suits and kurtis in my size, there was an incredible color selection, and all the salespeople jumped in to offer me lower prices. They were professional and gave me great personal attention, even helping me try the saree and pick out matching jewelry. I would definitely shop here again. read more

Very bad customer service... Even though employees willing to show the designs & different colors, the owner is horrible. He comes in between asks r u buying this as if he wants us to finish shopping and purchase whatever he shows... At one point of time, he literally said, enough, if you want to buy, buy other wise leave....Horrible Customer Service... I never seen any business owner talks like him in America.... I am not of Indian descent, nor have I ever purchased a sari before this experience, but I was invited to an Indian wedding and was SO excited to have an excuse to finally wear a sari so I went to Roopam straight away. I have to say I was very nervous going into the store because A. I didnt even know where to start, and B. I thought they might think that I was just gawking or playing dress-up. But immediately a beautiful elderly sales woman approached me with a smile and was super encouraging, and explained all the different styles of dress to me. She made me feel very comfortable and shared my enthusiasm for trying something new. I loved their selection of salwar kameez, but was blown away by the beauty and selection of their sarees. She immediately found the "right" one and showed me a million different ways to drape it...I felt like a princess to say the least. People have mentioned in their reviews that price is a shifting point at Roopam. I believe they like to bargain with you, and its probably worth instigating if you feel the need to pay below sticker price. She gave me a great deal as a first time customer. I thought the customer service was awesome, and the selection seemed to have a good range. I definitely hope Ill have more reason to buy sarees in the future and if so, Ill definitely be coming back to Roopam. read more

this people are so rude and don't understand the meaning of customer service. they price the clothes up so high and pretend they are giving you half off or something by lowering the price but all they do is rip you off by selling you a saree for $100 which they bought for about $10 in india. they price it for $200 and sell for $100 making you think they giving you a huge discount. just price it for $100 and don't waste time by going through making a good deal crap. never shopping from there again. read more
