The coffee here is good, no question about that. This review is about the service. My husband asked for a double shot of espresso over ice. The barista told him "we don't ice our espresso, it just ruins it so we don't do it". I owned a coffee shop and worked in the coffee industry for over ten years and this statement is untrue. Even if it IS true, just give the customer what they want. That's like a bar telling someone they won't put whiskey on the rocks...don't be pretentious and just provide what the customer asks for. I only recently realized they also opened up this location downtown. I like roos roast coffee a lot, and we tried the aeropress for the first time and it really brought out so many flavors in the coffee! Coffee/espresso in Europe were my fave, but this was the first time I had experienced so many details in the flavor - like they were all dancing and having a party in my mouth! Also, the baristas are super cool and patient. While sitting there on my visit, trying to read my book, i overheard several "stupid questions" from ppl like "what's good here?" and each time, the guy just answered "we have coffee" like it was a normal thing to ask . Delicious Macchiato!!!! Everything in here is good, super fast service for a completely natural coffee drink. Caramel on your coffee? Then real caramel in the bottom, want some honey? This coffee house had a fun vibe! I tried the cherry bomb mocha, which was smoothe and pretty standard for a mocha. They also had water that was flavored with fruit which was so wonderfully refreshing on a warm spring day! This morning I ordered the Simple Egg on Toast. It's vegetarian Friendly. It's a 7 min hard boiled egg on a multi-seed grain, not exactly sure what kind of bread as I write this but it's good. It consists of Maldon Salt, pepper, house roast chili blend, a touch of olive oil, and avocado. It's not too over the top with flavor but it's a subtle flavor with great taste and texture. The house roast chili blend is well balanced and not too spicy. It's just enough to complement the egg. Overall the appearance of the cafe is welcoming, clean, and with friendly staff! I'll be back to try the burrito. FYI, the kitchen is open to 2pm. read more

The service here is awesome. Baristas are always ready to give suggestions if you're not sure what to order, & I love their affordable selection of snacks to go with your coffee. I'm not a huge fan of their brew, which must make me some heretic, but it always tastes too acidic for me. I haven't been able to try any specialty drinks since I'm diabetic & can't afford real sugar, but my friends give nothing but praise. The last two times I've gone in though, the music was very loud. This is as good as it gets. Roosroast embodies what a coffee shop is all about. Locally sourced brews and grub, a super friendly crew, a fun and frothy atmosphere and above all.. GREAT coffee. The famed lobster butter love coffee is all the buzz in town and the cold brew is to die for (especially in the summer heat). My personal favorite is the flat white. I promise it doesn't disappoint (and thank god it isn't a milky mess as it is at Starbucks). There's a lot of great shops in town, without a doubt. The elixir brewed from Roos' beans has been my home coffee jam for many a year. It's just so darn GOOD. How excited was I to find that he opened up a coffee shop downtown? VERY. Plus they open early enough in the morning for me to make a stop en route to work. Delicious coffee, creative coffee bevvies, yummy foodstuffs (the avocado toast with egg was phenom), lovely staff and friendly service. I can imagine not being able to find a spot to sit here during peak hours, which could be a downer (especially in the winter) but I remain optimistic about my chances! Thrilled about this new location. It is everything I hoped it would be. I have been a long time fan of Roos at the Farmer's Market, at their S Industrial location, and at Plum market. This new location feels like a natural and welcome new extension of the Roos brand. They've really made the most of the space and hired some excellent staff. More food options than the other Roos, easy walking from this side of A2, same excellent coffee. Wish there were more room but not much to be done about that in such a small space. RoosRoast is by far the best coffee shop I've been to in the Ann Arbor area! They roast their own beans and make great recommendations. The staff/baristas are friendly and helpful towards everyone - coffee veterans and newbies alike. The prices are more than fair considering the quality of the coffee and the skills of those who brew it behind the counter. Be warned, this is NOT a place to get a coffee if you want a "half-caff soy caramel macchiato with whip and extra cinnamon". While they will most likely make this drink and others like it, please note that this cafe is not the place to order your "Green Mermaid" coffee-flavored sugar-milk. RoosRoast makes a great cup of coffee. Their baristas are very skilled and will make just about anything you ask them to. Keep in mind that good coffee will stand on its own, without the need for four pumps of vanilla syrup and a drizzle of caramel. A good cup of coffee will have flavors that deserve to be tasted and shouldn't be covered up with the frills of extra flavors. Milk is meant to be steamed and microfoamed to a perfect consistency. RoosRoast does a fantastic job of making their perfectly roasted beans the star of the cup. Bottom line: RoosRoast is the perfect place to get a delicious cup of coffee and a snack. If you're unfamiliar with real coffee, ask the baristas who are more than happy to help you find your perfect roast and cup. read more

This is at least third time I have been to this shop. While I completely understand COVID-19 situation. I always find the staff feels to dislike family people with kids and prefer students or younger crowd. The coffee as product is good but service definitely can improve and some understanding about people with younger or special needs kids. I don't just go here for great coffee and one of the best avocado toasts in town - I go to Roos to have a warm, silly, happy time with baristas who do the cha cha slide behind the bar if it plays, getting the whole store to join, and having some of the most quirky, fun, amazing deep local beans. They know how to make their customers feel welcomed - when my spiced chocolate latte was too spicy, they tried to make another one exactly to my taste since I was studying at the bar and a kind barista saw me cough. The man at the toast counter doesn't ever not have a smile, and the badass woman posters and pinball table decor doesn't make me want to leave when I'm reading/studying there, so I get more snacks. Like the chocolate avocado mousse, or protein balls, and hydrate with the flavored water on the counter. This place is just special - my purple, bright Badass Women Blend gets questions out of state and kind smiles in Ann Arbor. Their hot chocolate cold brew half gallons and vanilla chai premade brews are keeping me going until I can stare at those yellow walls once again. read more

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I was slightly biased going in as I love their other location, and I was hyped by the fact that it was a sunny Sunday afternoon at Festifools. Warm as it was, an iced beverage sounded perfect and RoosRoast hit the mark completely dead on. I decided to go with an iced chai with honey and it was DEVINE! A perfect blend of spicy chai, cool milk, and the slight sweetness of the perfect amount of honey. The atmosphere of this location also kicks butt. I can't decide if it's larger than the other location, but the extended seating at the bar rocks my socks and it gives the right angle for people watching without being creepy. I can't wait to have a good excuse to stop in again and will now be my go-to! read more
