Came here for lunch and they ran out of steamed chicken. I was kind of disappointed because I was looking forward to eating steamed chicken. I ended up eating the Thai-style chicken (I forgot what it was formally called). It had good flavor. My friend who was visiting from Thailand was satisfied with how the chicken was cooked. I was glad that I tried something different, but I hope they have steamed chicken available the next time I come.

i had been wanting to try this spot bc bf is into "the macro" as a healthy meal consisting of chicken, brown rice, sauce, and broth. conveniently, i needed to use up some classpass credits and saw this as an option under food & drink! everything was great i just felt that the price is a little steep for what youre getting. i dont love any of the sauces either, but i think thats bc i'm not used to thai style chicken rice. service was good and fast and i dont like chicken skin so i liked that they had an option to remove that :) very fast casual spot. i would come back if i'm in the area and craving chicken rice

I love Hainanese Chicken Rice so I was excited to try a Thai style one. The store is cutely decorated but it has no seating inside. There are outdoors seating in the plaza. Hainanese Chicken rice was good portion and the fried chicken was crispy. It's a good quick bite if you work in this area.

Perfectly poached and well seasoned chicken. I like their ginger soy sauce. They were busy at lunch time but service was fast. Outdoor seating available and parking was not an issue. Please come and create your own adventure.

Stopped Rooster & Rice to try out their version of Hainanese chicken rice. And also tried out the Hat Yat chicken rice. The location has no seating in the store and will have to eat the food outside or take it to go. We ordered our food at the counter and took the food as takeaway. The original chicken rice was tender and rice was flavorful. The Hat Yat chicken was nicely fried, but would have been nice to pair with some fresh spice to kick up the flavor. We had also ordered the fried chicken skin, which was also missing some spice.

Solid takeout spot near Spectrum! Not too many things on the menu, pretty easy to order for indecisive people. We ordered: - original: very very mild flavor. Chicken is cooked very tender but I would recommend dipping it in the side soup as you eat! Pairs very well with the ginger scallion and KMG sauces. - hat yai: very crunchy seasoned flavor! Also very tender under the batter, personally this was my favorite dish. I think ordering those two dishes was a good move, a good contrast between strong/mild flavors and textures.

Came for lunch and tried The Original (steamed/boiled style chicken) and my friend got The Cutlet (fried katsu style). Friendly and fast service. No seating inside, but there's a few tables and chairs outside. Both entrees were deliciously flavored and cooked, along with the sauces they came with. The rice was a little soggy for my liking but overall, it was good.

Ah, unfortunately this spot missed the mark for me. I found the chicken to be underwhelming and frankly, quite dry (even the dark meat portion). The sauces were also just okay, I think Savoy in the SGV is still the blueprint for a solid hainan chicken rice. May have been a bad day though, and might need to revisit. Quick service and clean interior however, so plus points for that.

Decent chicken and rice place. Was a little baffled when I saw they sell chicken skin by itself, fried chicken skin?!??! I had to get it and see why it earned a spot as menu item. What did I realize? Its like eating chips with sinfully tasty grease bursting in flavor. Is this healthy? No a chance. Will i come here after a Costco run? Bet.

Omg what was there not to love about the food from Rooster & Rice? I am drooling just remembering the taste of their popcorn chicken pieces & khao man gai. The rice and chicken thighs paired perfectly with the dipping sauce and it was absolutely delectable. The meat was so tender and rice had a wonderful flavor to compliment the entire dish. The popcorn chicken were perfect -- lightly battered, tender meat, and flavor explosion in every bite. The order was placed via Doordash for delivery and arrived perfectly packaged and without delay. I think I know what I am ordering later tonight!

Pretty good hainan chicken rice! Service was very quick and there's tons of free parking. There are no seats and tables located inside but plenty outside. There also doesn't seem to be a bathroom available for customers, which I would definitely keep in mind if you plan on staying for a while. I ordered the original with KMG sauce and Siracha. It was $16 for one portion including tax and I was able to finish the entire plate in one sitting so the price is a little steep for what you get for sure. I've had hainanese chicken at some of singapore's most famous hawker stalls and while this isn't the same quality, it definitely captures the essence of those dishes. It's convenient, quick, and close to Chapman's Rinker campus.

I love coming here but it's a very strange rule that the owner doesn't allow customers to switch the sources. We genuinely don't like the the sources it comes with (Sitacha), Hope the owner is reading this and make the switch. Add: I was given Siracha & pickles (not change allowed for either of them.

I ordered the Original and I thought it was okay - while the chicken and rice were moist and well cooked, the cucumbers were soggy and the broth was lukewarm and a little bland :( I would have also liked a little more chicken for the amount of rice served. Prices here are a bit high for a takeout spot in my opinion. Maybe I would have had better luck ordering something else.

Ask the Community - Rooster & Rice

Is there any seafood in the dishes?

No seafood or fish sauce in any of our dishes. Chicken is currently the only meat we serve.

Is Rooster and Rice within walking distance of the Irvine CA train station? Does anyone have any other recommendations?

It's probably the best Hainan chicken in the area. The boba shop next to it is good as well.

Are there peanuts or nuts in the meals?

Hello! No nuts at all in our food, only soybean in the Khao mun gai sauce

    Is the chicken halal?

They are not halal but still very tasty

Eggplant dish was really rich yet not salty in taste; I quite enjoyed it. The chicken curry was also good; definitely Viet-influence or Viet version with the bowl of do chua. The star of this plate was the sauce that came with it. It changes the flavor profile of the sea bass entirely. Personally, I did not like the sea bass alone. It tasted rather bland but the sauce rescued the plate. We also got the garlic noodles which were yummy but nothing crazy, we give them a 3.5/5. Not pictured was the cooked bokchoy because as soon as we tried the first piece we could not stop because it was so good!!! We lastly had the blueberry pecan tart which was.... Omg.... Amazing I wanted to order a second. I get very overwhelmed by sweetness but this plate was perfect. Creamy, freshly baked, big enough for one person or to modestly share between two people. It's topped with vanilla ice cream which was a huge plus! Would def go again though solely for the pecan tart.

The burritos individually wrapped and were the right size for the parents, though even at mild, the butter chicken was a little spicy to me. I asked about allergens, and the lady let me know that they were going nut free in a week and everything would no longer have nuts. The butter chicken does contain dairy in the form of queso. We also ordered a tray of the corn bhel (this was AMAZING) and mixed salad (in hindsight, probably not the best order for a bunch of four and five year olds). Both are dairy-free and nut-free. The food was delivered promptly to the venue exactly on time. I paid for the order via Zelle when I placed the order.

What did I just eat?…read more I'm genuinely confused after eating at Maast Indian in Irvine, because I don't know how something can look so promising on the outside and taste so disappointing on the inside. I was skeptical walking in, not gonna lie. The place wasn't exactly packed -- maybe three tables had people and there was one person waiting on an order -- but I figured hey, every new spot deserves a fair shot. The interior actually looks really nice. Clean, modern, good layout, good lighting... it feels like a place that should be delivering quality food. Then I ordered the Tandoori Chicken "Panini Sandwich". First of all... $15 for a sandwich like that is wild. And if you're going to charge $15, the food better be memorable in a good way. This was memorable in the worst way. The flavor was just off. The chicken didn't taste like tandoori should. It didn't have that smoky, spiced kick you expect -- it tasted bland and kind of weird, like the seasoning didn't know what it wanted to be. The whole sandwich felt thrown together, and the "panini" part didn't add anything except disappointment. And what really got me was the value. No fries. No chips. Nothing on the side. Just a sandwich. For $15. During lunch hours. That's crazy. For that same price, I can go to Curry Hut, Curry Time, or other grab-and-go Indian spots and get a full combo plate that actually fills you up and tastes like Indian food is supposed to taste. This wasn't even in the same league. This wasn't a "maybe I ordered the wrong thing" situation. This was a "how did this make it onto the menu" situation. I hate leaving negative reviews because I understand how hard it is to run a small business, and I'm not here to tear anyone down. But the food needs a serious reality check. The presentation and the space are great -- but the kitchen needs to match that same standard. If the owner sees this, I'd honestly love to talk. Feel free to reach out. And for anyone reading this: you know I don't throw out 1-star reviews like that. The only reason this isn't a 1 is because I genuinely don't want to hurt a small business. But this experience was not good.

Lizzie guided us through the menu and highly recommended the Blackened Chicken Pasta, which was delicious. For our side, we ordered the sweet potato fries with cinnamon seasoning.
