Took my wife and granddaughter on Sunday morning. We were almost the first ones there. Got waited on and ordered a couple of appetizer and our meals at the same time. The place started to get a little busier but not too many. They brought our appetizers out in good time then the wait for our meals started. People actually came in after us and left, still no meal. We are very patient but enough was enough. I walked up to our server and he said they just forgot about us, we were just three seats inside the front door. Never bothered to see if we needed anything including our meals. We decided to cut our losses and the server still brought us a check for the appetizers and a 20 dollar coupon to use toward the bill. No meal no visit from management just a bill. I think if you had any customers service in mind, you would have comped the appetizers and gave the coupon for another visit. Great hole-in-the-wall restaurant/bar. We stopped in for a very late lunch driving through Denton. The waitress was very nice and attentive. We started with the fried pickles, and while it normally comes with ranch, we requested blue cheese. The full basket of pickles came out hot and quick. The breading was light not heavy or overwhelming; nice and crunchy, a little heavy on the corn meal for my taste, but great, nonetheless. However, I feel the frying oil was ready to be changed out. We both opted for the Pit sandwich because it seemed to be one of the house favorites. It comes with house chips, but I ordered mine with a side of rooster tails (fried onion peels), which came with a spicy thousand island dipping sauce. I didn't care for the sauce; the onion peels would have been fine on their own had the frying oil been a little fresher, and that kept me from eating more than two pieces. The sandwich was fantastic; served on Texas toast, two slices of sausage piled on top of sliced brisket and pulled pork with a little BBQ sauce and the BEST PICO I've ever had. This isn't your Tex-mex pico, it is a pickle relish base hint of sweet, with pickled jalapeño and onion. It was fantastic. Overall, if traveling back through Denton, we will make a point to stop here for a meal. Great service, atmosphere (loved the 80's music selection!), and great food. read more

I wanted this to be a five-star review but like so many restaurants these days, a shortage of waitstaff leads to long waits while looking at empty tables. Hostess was frustrated with her constraints and defensive in her responses- tough gig. Food, though, was fabulous! Lots of variety on the menu, healthy portions, really tasty, up-scale bar fare. Ambiance- college town bar typical- urinals cut from kegs got our gents' attention and a chuckle. Kitchen service times and waitstaff were great for our large group- it made it worth the extended wait and surly greeting up front. We'll be back-maybe we can order ahead to go? read more

It's the kind of place you can tell as soon as you walk in the door that there are a lot of regulars, and the staff know a lot of people personally. Amazing food!! Amazing service. Ordered a combo of fried pickles and jalapeños. Fried jalapeños are made out of fresh sliced jalapeños, not pickled jalapeños. Some slices are mild, some are really spicy! Excellent!!! Ordered the pig tails. Hubby got the the cheesesteak. I got the smoked turkey. OH, and you gotta try the PB&J shot! We will be back! I was visiting a friend while in Denton and we went to Roosters because they serve Jalitos with ranch as an appetizer. I was not disappointed with their crispiness and the portion served. The Turkey sandwich I got for dinner was excellent and delicious. Our server was very kind, attentive and accommodating. The roadhouse charm was there in spades. VERDICT: After visiting two times, I really like this place! It does get pretty busy during lunch hour, so arrive early. Food is good and the prices are very fair for this area. BACKGROUND: This is a company favorite place to eat so one of my coworkers took me here. ATMOSPHERE It's got character! It's a divey place adorned with some really cool TX-themed signage and taxidermy. It's clean too. Though I haven't been out back, I do believe there's an outdoor patio area but no one is crazy enough to sit back there in this summer TX heat. It's not pretentious at all. All types of Denton-ites are here from all walks of life. I like it! FOOD So far I've stuck with their burgers, which are more akin to smash burgers without the onions. I just went with the cheeseburgers so far because its just the right amount of food for me not to go into a food coma an hour later. Yesterday though the burger was a bit too salty, so there's some feedback for the restaurant :) RETURN VISIT? Definitely. I've been meaning to bring my wife here too as I know the portion sizes will be more akin to what she can eat and plus the burgers aren't over the top extra (though you can order those if you like). This is our second time here and can't believe I didn't post a review the first time. Absolutely one of my favorite burger joints in the metroplex. So a little different with Covid-19 but we still got inside within 5 minutes on a weeknight. Just be prepared for a wait on a weekend - this place is popular. Hannah was our server and the sweetest girl. She was so helpful and always attentive. She recommended the Redneck sushi as a starter. What a different take on sushi but really good. It's wrapped in a tortilla instead of rice. Different but we both gobbled it up. I ordered the same Chez Burger (comes with an egg on top) as the first time. Of course I added the "rooster tails". It's their take on onions rings but they are little bites of heaven with an incredible dipping sauce. My burger seriously made my mouth ignite with taste on every bite. Perfectly cooked and so much flavor. My wife had the King Brisket Burger. She raves about the bbq on top of the burger. If you have an appetite and want to combine the two best meats-this is the go to . Don't get to Denton much but I try to go up there once a year just to visit Roosters! read more

This place is great! Near a cute strip of downtown Denton with a cute hip vibe to itself. Great music playing not too loudly in the background. The have a small front patio and also a hidden back patio also. The pulled pork nacho appetizer was beyond amazing! I have never personally found myself a fan of non-Mexican version of nachos however WOWZA! Mind = blown I got the sliders and they were loaded with fresh sautéed jalapeños and onions. Love how they use the sweet buns with them. My husband got the king brisket burger. He says easily one of those top 5 burgers. He loved the combination. I knocked the thought of a 5 star review as even though our waitress was tentative, she was a bit stand off ish. Not very "friendly". Secondly I had one pretty upset kid with a hot dog kids meal that although was good, was not typical and I feel kids meals should be a bit more "normal". This was my first time at Rooster's and i can't wait to go back! It definitely has chill dive bar vibes. There's indoor and outdoor seating available. The Bean & Chopped Brisket Queso was full of flavor. I loved that the chips were sturdy enough for it. I wish there was some spice to it, but definitely tasty and will get again. The half serving of the Red Neck Sushi came with 6 rolls. It was unique and soo good! It was a flour tortilla filtered with brisket, cheese, and I believe peppers? Not spicy, but came with a type of horseradish sauce on the side for an added kick. These two apps alone were enough for the two of us to get comfortably full. The cockeyed lemonade (frozen lemonade) was delicious with multiple flavors to choose from. The huckleberry flavor added a nice sour twist. read more

This is one of my favorite kind of places, because it wears its heart on it's sleeve. This is a chilled and relaxed place to come visit. Everything is very casual. The food is pretty consistent. The service is great as well. The one ding, and the only ding I can come up with is I wish they had more vegetarian options. I'll own the fact that I'm just moving back to the area, and I've only been there 2 or 3 times. But trying to keep my vegetarian wife happy is high on my life. I was not originally planning on coming here NYE, but Hoochies closing down at 4 forced me to call an audible and I found my way across the street to Roosters. This place was such a surprise. To me obviously, as I was not in the know. I just knew it was raining, I was hungry, and it was right there. First off, the service was excellent. Friendly but not pushy, and gave some good recommendations. They have amazing drink specials and an interesting menu. Fyi, they have a grilled veggie po boy and not just salads for the non meat eaters. I didn't go for that, but strayed away from my usual order of brisket, to try their pulled pork sandwich. The description said it came with a vinegar sauce and red onion marmalade. It was good. Real good. I loved the vinegar sauce, and my lovely waitress had them put the marmalade on the side, just in case. But omg it was so good. It seemed like pickled red onion with a little bit of jalapeno, and everything together made for an excellent sandwich. It came on Texas toast, which I didn't think was necessary. The sandwich was so flavorful it didn't need a buttery bread, and the bottom practically disintegrated beneath it. I don't care, bbq is messy and I had napkins. The homemade chips were super crunchy and perfectly cooked. When she dropped the check, I thought there had been a mistake. No mistake, they just have excellent prices. You also get a fortune cookie at the end of your meal. I walked in a bit disappointed and left very full and completely charmed. I will definitely come here again, this place rocks. read more

I've heard mixed reviews about this place but we decided to give it a try. We came around lunch time a Sunday, they weren't very busy and there were plenty of seating available both on the patio and inside. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. They have a pretty large menu and seem quite accommodating if you want to change or add additional things to your dish. They explained they have stars on the dishes that are the most popular which is good to know.We ordered the Rooster Tails which is beer battered onions with their sauce. It was quite good, it had a good seasoning without being too spicy. I also ordered the brisket burger with chips. The burger was good, big enough and good seasoning just a bit spicy but not too much. The chips were ok and seemed home made. The burger disappeared quickly! I was satisfied but my wife wanted to try their peach cobbler so I ordered a pecan pie with ice cream for myself. It turns out that they didn't have peach cobbler prepared at the time, the manager came out and apologized and brought her a blue berry cobbler and comped it which I thought was really nice! It's not until things don't go great that you see how a restaurant treats their customers and I this was far better than I would have expected. Three of us ordered LEAN sliced barbecue sandwiches. One sandwich was so full of fat and gristle that it was an edible . We did ask for a new sandwich and was provided a much better lean sandwich. I had me a well seasoned and portioned Cuban sandwich with tender pork, pickles, cheese and mustard. I chose the homemade chips and a side of cowboy slaw... what a pair to add to this delicious selection. Let's not forget the app I ordered... bean and brisket queso.... WOW!!!!! Enough said. Delicious, cheesy and definitely something to order on the next visit. The staff were happy, attentive and polite. They were quick to greet, seat and serve. Very little wait time to get my food at least on this Tuesday night. If you're looking for something a little different, I would suggest finding a Rooster's near you. We were told to go to Rooster's as they had great BBQ. We ordered the brisket queso & chips. It was pretty good and she brought us more chips when we ran out. I ordered the Pork Sandwich. Our order arrived pretty quickly. My small portion of pork was on two pieces of Texas Toast and no sauce? I prefer a bun and bbq sauce as who eats a dry sandwich?? How about some pickles too? I asked if they had potato salad but was told they didn't have that. I guess I am used to these traditional BBQ dishes. My husband had to go ask for some BBQ sauce as the the server never showed up again until the end to bring us the check. I think we will go to Rudy's or try other BBQ spot in the area next time as overall, it was just ok. read more

Located in an area where parking could be a challenge at crowded hours. We lucked out and got a spot around the corner. Right next to Fuzzy's tacos which was a bit confusing, because Fuzzy's has a lot of signage! Hard floors and sports on TV add to the noise level. We were seated in a booth which proved comfortable. A boisterous place which smelled deliciously of BBQ when we entered. Therefore I got a brisket sandwich and it was good. I wished for a little more meat however. Toppings plentiful and flavorful. Fries were average - not as good as I could do in my own air fryer. My wife had a salad meal which was all iceberg lettuce and so she was disappointed. Beer was cold although the selection is fairly pedestrian. Service was very pleasant and fairly prompt, although I found myself flagging down the odd server to get attention. So maybe not as good as all that. Folks eating outside with their dogs, so if that bothers you, now you know. I love the good puppy dog so it was no issue to me. Overall a pleasant experience. I'd give it a B and we might well return at some point. But with so many dining options in the rejuvenated Denton it might be a while. read more
