One of my favorite spots in all of Denver. The service is wonderful and everyone is so friendly. Every single thing I have eaten at Root Down has been beautiful, decadent and so flavorful. I was just there this weekend for brunch and had the tofu scramble...it was amazing. We also got the cinnamon rolls...had to splurge when our waiter told us about them. Yum. The food here is great! Really creative and delicious, been here a few times and the experience is always similar. I really do enjoy the food here once we get seated. That being said it is such a pain in the a** to get to that point that you are fully flustered by the time you sit. Even with a reservation be prepared to wait for a LONG time..you can go to the bar and join another 10 stranded 'standers' in the game of competitive high-top table hovering in the hopes that you're the closest when someone gets up to leave. We got there at 6:45 for a 7:00 reservation (on Wednesday night) they said it would be a little while, so follow me (hostess leads us to an occupied high top and says 'this guy looks like he's paying his tab' and hands us the cocktail menus and walks away! Well, they put little 'clocks' on the tables in the bar to indicate that they are reserved and you may not sit...even though we would have been long gone by the times they indicated..a couple of them said 8:00 but the hostess said sorry they're reserved.. We eventually got lucky and found two spots at the bar and decided to just eat there...again food is very good. But even after eating the 'reserved' tables still sat empty..ugh! Anyway, maybe being over booked and small is not the fault of the restaurant, but (just my two cents) if you don't have the time or patience to want to deal with this kind of thing, go elsewhere..or maybe don't eat at prime dinner hours. This place was great!!! I went there with two friends and we got three starters, mixed drinks and desserts! The arepas were the best I've ever had- great sauce and veggies on top! The roman gnocchi was great, although the guys I was with likes the lamb meatballs better. The meatballs were very moist and had great flavor! As for drinks, we ordered a lot of the menu and liked all of them! The sticky bread pudding dessert thing and passion sorbets and caramels were amazing! Also, the restaurant wasn't too noisy even though it was jam packed and super hip. Our server was really on top of refills and all the food came out super fast (Almost too fast if you're trying to pace your meal). Will definitely be back! read more

Phenomenal food! Shared plates were all great but the devil on horseback (bacon wrapped something rather)were a crowd pleaser. Out of the falafel, gnooc, meatballs were our least favorite. And the main chicken dish was really good! We ate like piggies. It was so good that it makes me want to come back for lunch the next day. The service was also A+. Food came within 10 minutes of our order and the servers were on top of clearing the tables so the next shared plates could come out. Considering how packed it was on a Tuesday night, we were pleasantly surprised with both service and food for a group outer towners! read more

It has been a few weeks since our last experience because I didn't want my emotions to write this review so a month later I hope I can review my experience without being so harsh but fair to my personal experience. So this was just disappointing and embarrassing. We planned an evening for our guest from out of town. After talking up Root Down for days, we could have chosen a better evening elsewhere. We understand the weekends are busy and should be avoided because of how busy they are but for a Monday evening with reservations was disappointing. By the time we sat and ordered our dinner arrived an hour and 10 minutes later. Drinks were prompt and appetizers were standard but waiting 30 minutes for our entree is not ideal. Even after receiving out meals 2 people in our party had warm plates. Our server failed to provide the necessary attention to customers even if the kitchen was backed up. Regardless it was embarrassing. We used to justify the wait and the prices but on this evening it was like a few other restaurants, overpriced and over hyped, and failed to deliver. read more

Every time I'm there the food is great. Had their bbq tacos the first time there, which were simply delicious. Just FYI, You can never go wrong ordering their hot cocoa! That hot cocoa will just blow your mind. They serve their hot coca, with a side of homemade vanilla bean whipped cream. No regrets to splurging that morning! read more

Walmarttogo is good when it works. The issues I have had are: They do not take charges off your credit card for seven days if a delivery is not delivered. When I challenged this I was told to "talk to your bank: Charges for another order are also put on your Visa so you can have up to a few -or more-hundred dollars tied up when you have not yet rec'd any groceries . I have an order marked "cancelled" when it was not : it was just not delivered. When they mark an order this way, the seven day hold is placed on your Visa. When one order was not delivered I was told I would have a free delivery if they could resend it. Yet the charge was on the bill, I told the driver, it was never removed. It was a nice offer but not realized. I was told they could not reach me re my visa charge as they require a ten digit phone number. . It is ten digits as are all local calls. The email seemed rude to me. I felt some of the experiences in dealing with them were very frustrating but when it does work and the delivery comes, everything was just fine. I dont like sitting at home waiting for a delivery that does not come which has happened twice recently. I pay extra for the two hour window but that did not solve the problem. I think the "bugs" need to be worked out of the system and the people who respond would do well with a more customer oriented attitude. read more

Best restaurant in Denver? That is a joke. 2 of the 5 apps my party ordered were great. The rest were mediocre. The service was appalling. I've never had a more rude waitress in my life... She seemed irritated and inconvenienced by us the whole time. She fully walked away from the table on multiple occasions when we weren't 100% certain what to order. To a group of well traveled people from both the U.S. and Europe- this place is a joke. read more

This restaurant is amazing. I came to Denver for work and ended up eating here two nights in a row! I am a vegetarian and it was so easy to find many great options. And be sure to save room for dessert! When I visited, they had this amazing avocado key lime pie with prickly pear whipped cream -- simply delicious. Came here for brunch with some friends. The food, service and ambiance is excellent. We all ordered different items and shared. The Huevos Rancheros Benedict was everyone's favorite, mind blowing! I ordered the mushroom omelette which was unique and very flavorful, I would order it again. My husband got the pulled pork omelette and it was delicious. We had a side of the house made maple sausage, everyone really enjoyed that. Only negative comment is they don't have fresh juice the waiter was up front about that when we asked and said it's because of the bottomless mimosas. Which btw they are not stingy with. Root Down is a great place. I have been to the highlands location a number of times. This is a great spot for anniversaries, birthdays, or just random date night. They're vegan friendly and the service is great. I recommend the Pepper Blossom cocktail cause it's the shit. It's a little pricey, but I feel like you're also paying for the environment, which isn't a bad thing at all! read more

I've been here twice. Once for HH and another for drinks/apps. HH is pretty good, although we got there about 30 mins after they opened, that was a No-No as all the seats were full in the entire bar area, we had to sit in a super weird counter spot near the bathrooms. That aside, the food/drinks were good and inexpensive (HH only). Just be aware that you may have strangers waiting all around you, practically leaning on you while they wait 1+ hrs for a table, while you attempt to enjoy your drinks/food Went the other night had a cocktail and split two 'shareables" or whatever they call them. The cocktails are great, well made with fun ingredients. They are all quite pricey at $10-$12 each. Had the heirloom stuffed with burrata and the cheese plate. Both were tasty, not over the top amazing, but I'd eat both again happily. I'm not certain why this place gets such amazing reviews honestly. It's good and I'll probably go back sometime, but their menu is very small and quite pricey. read more

Note that this is for the DIA LOCATION, NOT the Highlands location...there's a big difference. Very disappointed on New Year's Eve, given a pretty good experience a few months earlier and always a fun experience at Highlands. Mediocre, barely adequate food, mediocre service, and, most puzzlingly, we were seated at a table with a broken seat (the bench was broken--I kept sliding off and it was very uncomfortable), and as the hostess was nowhere in evidence we just moved to another table...which was so uneven and tippy that we could eat there without spilling all drinks only if I planted my foot firmly on one leg of the table--also very uncomfortable. Isn't anyone there paying any attention? Management, I'm talking to you? This location is riding on its great Denver reputation, I guess. Really disappointing. read more
