Five star service and five star food. It's in the pricier side, but I will always been content with paying good money for good food. I definitely ate with my eyes but the food I had was out of this world. They had a fun menu on Sunday that was a preset option for I think $35-$40 and you got a starter meal and dessert. I didn't go that route but some of my friends did and they liked it very much. I had the curry soup (fantastic!) and the carrot gnocchi (equally amazing). I wish I could have both recipes to make at home, but I suppose that will be what brings me back whenever I'm in Denver again. read more

Root down has a great atmosphere and vibe to it. I loved all the dim lighting! My friend and I got there right before 6pm and there was plenty of seating. We ordered the natural chicken two ways which came with a cucumber pear salad (amazing), the veggie sliders with a side salad, and sweet potatoes fries. Literally everything was a hit! We also each ordered a drink. We had a great time there and our waitress was super cool, too. Only thing is that it's a little expensive. For all of that the bill was $97 plus tip. Came here for brunch. It's a super cute spot - I believe it's an old automotive shop that they built onto. Very retro and younger crowd. Food was amazing! I got the breakfast burrito vegan style without the soyrizo (just not a fan of that flavor). The potatoes were so yummy. Bloody Mary was perfecti My suggestions- add potatoes and avocado to the burrito Vs having it on the side. Cons- we waited almost 40 mins for food. Our waitress brought over a danish for us to nibble on after we almost starting eating our hands. A little apology from the manager would have been great but it didn't seam like they knew. Went here for brunch with some friends. The service was absolutely amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and kept the bottomless mimosas going. The atmosphere is super cool and unexpected in the best way possible. The food is definitely a bit different than i am used to (hence only 4 stars) i got the carrot cake French toast and the chicken apple sausage. The sausage was amazing! The French toast was good, but if you're like me and enjoy traditional breakfast food, i would not suggest going here for the food. Highly suggest giving the place a try! read more

I'll just start by saying you could never leave this place in a bad mood. The food is AMAZING. I'm waiting for them to make one in California so i can go more. We first tried it on our first trip to Denver and it was so good that we had to come back the next day. a few months later and this was the first place we went to when we came back to Denver. The staff was so accommodating in seating us without the entire party (who was running late) and all together in the bar area. Drinks were flowing, food was creative, and service was fantastic. Sub par service, sub par food...still an expensive price tag. Couldn't be more disappointed with my experience at Root Down. I moved back after a family tragedy and was looking forward to a well made date night dinner. The bread was burned, charred. The butter was cold and unspreadable. The $9 fries were cold and the dregs. We asked them to remake them and they sent out another cold, not fresh batch of fries. The beet salad was ok but for an $18 price tag they sprinkled some greens on some pesto and plopped a few dollops of cheese. The Tom Kha was ok but not stand out and not satisfying. The lemongrass is like having to dig through a handful of hay. The bison was a very small portion and ok at best on a, again cold puree that had been sitting in the window too long and tasted like baby food with hardened, cold corn mixed in. Hardly worth $35. I wish I could ask for my money back. Our server meant well but she needed to be trained better because a lot of things she did created a stressful experience. Won't be back!!! Denver food and wine should be a competitive market where restaurants strive to bring their A game. Chefs: do better. Be consistent. read more

What a fun spot with super fresh food! We had reservations since it was Saturday lunch time. Got seated in a spot where the sun was blaring in and they happily resat us in a better spot. The bar has tons of booth seating and the decor in there is really fun, vibrant and retro. I enjoyed the roasted beet salad with lox on the side. Really really nice and fresh. The arugula was perfect. The red and golden beets were outstanding. My friend ordered the Masala tofu scramble but with egg instead of tofu. It reminded us both so much of an Indian egg dish our Moms make. It was absolutely divine! Try out their cocktails! I had the Down The Rabbit Hole which was gin, orange juice, lemon, carrot syrup and thyme. It was all things fall! The service was a tad bit slow hence the 4 stars. Went to the one at the Denver Airport and will admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Took a while to get in, but was not disappointed. Ample menu choices, good drinks, friendly staff and they know you need to hustle to catch your flight, so that are also very attentive and ready with the check, which is also reasonable. read more

Have been meaning to try this highly regarded LoHi restaurant since moving into the neighborhood last year but it's always booked up. Family visiting from Chicago gave us an opportunity to visit, finally. We sat outside on a perfect evening. Drew provided fantastic service and we enjoyed our loHi Sours and a collection of small plates including shrimp taco and papperdil past and lamb sliders and sweet potato fries and scallops! I went to Root Down with a table of 6 last month after doing Yoga with Sharks at the downtown aquarium. I was visiting my best friend and she spoke highly of this because it is vegetarian-friendly. I can't comment too much as I don't remember what everyone else had. I had the Breakfast Burrito which was $14 it has Scrambled Eggs, Chorizo, Smoked Mozzarella, Avocado, Black Beans, Home Fries, Dark Mole & Pico de Gallo. My girlfriends had the bottomless brunch, I had the single bloody mary. They were able to accommodate that. The one alarming thing that happened is one of the girls at our table has severe food allergies, we did share that with the waitress. Something that she was allergic to appeared to get in contact with her food, maybe oil or a crumb and she started breaking out in a rash and get red all over her cheeks and it wasn't like that before we started eating. It was pretty immediate. Upon paying for the bill we shared with the waitress what happened. The staff went over and beyond, apologetic, removed the menu item from the bill and they came over to speak to her, they offered to call the ambulance. Thankfully, the rash didn't worsen nor did she need any hospitalization as the day went on. read more

Hands down the best food I've had in Denver so far. This is one of those places where I'm pretty sure you could order anything and it would be phenomenal. We went on Sunday and took advantage of the $35 tasting menu (starter, entree, and a dessert). Fantastic deal; I highly recommend it. Food-wise, we tried the roasted pumpkin, roasted cauliflower, cheesy arepas, Moroccan chicken (winner of the night - coming soon to the regular menu!), and the deconstructed s'mores. Came here for happy hour after reading many reviews. They had small plates- we got the arepa and green chickpea hummus both delicious! The bartender was super friendly and had many recommendations for the area. We sat at the bar but the decor is fun and eclectic! I heard their burgers are good maybe next time! Root Down is a truly exceptional restaurant located in the Highlands of Denver. A cut above the rest, Root Down's interior is a blend of hip, classic, casual, and rugged that is emblematic of Denver itself. Root Down absolutely bustles with activity, and the seating can be competitive-- I highly recommend reserving a table in advance as you may find them unavailable for walk-ins. HOWEVER! They do allow take out, which is what this review will consist of from now on: I ordered the flat iron steak, and noted that I'd like it prepared without dairy (as many well cooked steaks are typically basted in butter as they after searing) With hardly a blink of an eye they acknowledged the request and *still* produced an excellent steak-- even several minutes later when I had finally arrived home with it. I also appreciated that they provided an alternate sauce for the steak than the dairy laden scallion Yogurt mentioned on the menu. Seriously, fantastic job. 95% of the time when I order something without dairy it's just... dry, inedible. This was a standard that other restaurants should aspire to. But better than the steak, and I realize how ridiculous this sounds: The Brussel Sprouts. Seriously, what in the hell did you put in those Brussel Sprouts that made them savory, tangy, and still satisfyingly salty at the same time?! If there was a SINGLE thing that was flawed in the food I ate approximately ten minutes after it was plated it was the crispy smashed potatoes which were not quite as crispy any longer. I'd like to again acknowledge that, while not as crispy, they were still *delicious* despite being dairy free. Incredible and worth every penny, even on a take out. 5/5 read more
