Be warned, the food is prepared fresh, so you'll want the fried catfish filet to cool down before you take a bite. It's been a few weeks since I ate here and I'm still thinking about it. We stopped in since we saw some good reviews and I wail say, the Yelp community did not lead us astray. Cory (the owner) was awesome - he had recommendations and gave us some of the back story of the place. I got the spicy sandwich and man it was so good. Juicy, tender, everything you want with a chicken sandwich. I also got a biscuit on the side - which was fun, but nothing too special. The chicken was the star of the show. Also had to get some kool-aid, which hit the spot. They sell their tea and kool-aid by the jug as well for people who want some at home. The place is super clean and pleasant to sit and eat. He seemed to enjoy not only being there but making sure customers were greeted warmly and happy. Would be nice if they had more diet fountain drink options. I'm not even sure what "zero sugar Pepsi" is. Ambiance was fine for the type of place that it is. A 3.8% "fee" (which i assume is a credit card fee even though I'm not sure the kiosk ordering allowed to use cash) without mentioning it on the online menu is a "no no" and lost you a star and possibly any return visits. But then they do the same thing at their high end restaurants. As if folks are gonna carry in a wad of cash to pay for a $200+ restaurant bill. But if that's how they decide to operate a business, I guess it's their choice. About the food: I ordered the nuggets and duck-fat fries, and both were still at a great temperature and crisp by the time I made it back to work. Their house-made sauces, specifically the West Indies hot sauce and ranch, are not to be slept on. The Caesar salad was appealing to the eyes and the palate: A perfect construction of finely shredded kale and romaine coated with a briny, authentic Caesar dressing. Seasoned bread crumbs layered the top, adding the perfect layer of crunch and texture that turns a good salad into a great one. The cherry on top was a friendly invitation to come back and dine in. I ordered the 3 chicken strips with a side of collard greens and a Kool-Aid. Instead, I received 3 wings, no greens, and what tasted like sugar water with a hint of tropical punch. I let the young lady know I ordered strips, not wings, and that my collard greens were missing. She said "okay," so I went ahead and ate the wings. The wings themselves were pretty bland and really needed hot sauce or something--thankfully, they did at least offer that. After finishing the wings, I went back to remind her I was still missing the collard greens. She finally brought them out, and to my surprise, all the salt the wings were missing was packed into the greens. They were so salty I couldn't finish them. We were so excited to try this place and it did NOT disappoint. Walking in the door, we were greeted by the friendliest, happy and helpful gentleman who turned out to be the first ever Roots franchisee. We ordered the wings & fries with West Indian sauce and chicken strips & fries with ranch. I had the sweet tea, which is great and has a little spice I can't place. The wings are full wings, not just drummies so 4 was plenty. The breading on the chicken is so nice and you can taste the difference the duck fat makes on the fries. The sauces are made in house and are great. The West Indian sauce is spicy, but not overwhelming and offers a nice compliment to the salt in the chicken breading. There are about 10 tables and some counter seating and the place has customers eating in, taking out and picking up pre-orders. We had such a good experience that we ordered collard greens, mac & cheese, red beans & rice and banana pudding to compliment our New Years Day blackeyed peas.
