Tasty Tails has become one of my go to seafood spots, especially when I'm craving charbroiled oysters and crawfish. Even though I'm a returning customer, I still believe in giving an honest review. One thing I've always appreciated is the customer service. I'm greeted as soon as I walk in, and I've rarely had to wait for my food unless it's peak crawfish season, football season, or they have a guest DJ performing. The staff always keeps things moving, even when they're busy. The only downside for me has been the noticeable sewer like smell inside the restaurant. It can be a little distracting and uncomfortable while you're trying to enjoy your meal, and it's something I've experienced on more than one visit. Now for the food. The charbroiled oysters are the reason I keep coming back. They're grilled to perfection every single time. The oysters stay tender and juicy never rubbery or overcooked and they're served with lightly toasted French bread and fresh lemon wedges that pair perfectly with all that buttery, seasoned goodness. The crawfish is another standout. The flavor reminds me a lot of the crawfish you'd find at the Blue Store in New Orleans iykyk. You can tell they're using more than just Old Bay because the seasoning has depth and a great balance of spices without being overwhelming. Even better, the crawfish are soaked in the seasoning instead of just being sprinkled on the shells, so every bite is flavorful from the inside out. My only disappointment this visit was the catfish po'boy. Unfortunately, the fish tasted more like whiting than catfish. While it was fried well and dressed perfectly with all the right toppings, the fish itself had a very basic flavor that mostly tasted like seasoned cornmeal. I was hoping for a true catfish fillet with more Cajun seasoning and a little more personality. Overall, Tasty Tails continues to be one of my favorite seafood spots. The charbroiled oysters and crawfish alone are worth the visit, and the friendly service keeps me coming back. If they can address the odor inside the restaurant and improve the po'boy, this place would be even harder to beat. I'd definitely recommend giving them a try, especially if you're an oyster or crawfish fan. read more

Havent been here in a while and went back with my homegirl recently. I tried the chargrilled oysters, the wings, crawfish beignets, and a mixed daiquiri. The food was actually pretty good like I remember. My friend enjoyed her crawfish as well. Our drinks were also strong. I had ordered a lb of shrimp, 1 corn, 1 potato and thought that what I got was recently portioned and looked fresh. My shrimps were a good size and peeled easy. I've been here 3x now. I thought for sure during my last visit with my dad that I did a review, but apparently not. I returned for the 3rd time on Wednesday to celebrate my dad's birthday. We came during their happy hour which is from 3-7pm. Bao was our server & he was great! We ordered a variety of things: their half dozen chargrilled oysters, cajun fries, lemon pepper wings, a half pound of boiled shrimp, alligator dogs & Bao was kind enough to give my dad beignet bites for his birthday dessert. For drinks we had their margaritas on the rocks. What I can say is their food quality is consistent. Everything is always made to order & brought to the table piping hot. 10/10 I recommend! They have a happy hour Monday through Friday I believe until 6 or 7! $6 wells and many other drink deals $4 jambalaya egg rolls and other food items. The service is very attentive and quick! If you happen to not like something they are very flexible with switching something out! The uptown oysters are not on Happy hour and I see why it's so delicious they can't give that way at a deal! I usually order the same thing everytime and the uptown oysters are on that list! As well as the seafood egg rolls are delicious, they have a Cajun flavor and the sauce is to die for with a little spice! I also get this every visit. This place should just be called "Tails". There's nothing tasty here. I got one to go order and it was disappointing. When I arrived to pick up my meal, the dining area smelled like dry drain. Good thing it was to go, because I would've march myself right out of if I had to dine with that smell. As for food, it was mediocre. Somehow the Red Beans and Rice were tasteless- how is that possible? The fried catfish was just okay and all the dipping sauces were predominantly mayonnaise with little to distinguish them from each other. I went to this place on a whim for happy hour on a Thursday. I had so much fun! The happy hour food and drinks selections are really good. I started with the eggrolls and a frozen cocktail. The staff was great. The server was really nice. On Thursdays, they have a DJ and karaoke. This is when the fun started. After a couple of drinks/shots and a little more food, the place was alive ! I went to grad school in Louisiana. I don't remember much about what I learned there. But I do remember how much I enjoyed Cajun food! A good friend of mine from Louisiana recommended me this place. So I felt pretty good to try it out. I ordered two pounds of crawfish with potatoes and corn. I did take-out to avoid the crowd. I loved the crawfish! It was so delicious - fresh, spicy, and savory. They did tossed in a couple of "jumbo" crawfish! We also liked the corn, but the potatoes were a bit bland. The place is not too big, but all the patrons seemed to be enjoying the food. When I read the menu of this place, I was so excited to go and try so many different things because everything sounded so good. But that was shortly lived. The ambience of the place was average Wood. You typically will see like a Cajun restaurant it was packed. Unfortunately the service was not good. I'm sorry the hosts had us confused with another person and told us she gave our table away because she called and we didn't answer. Sorry, but there are multiple people in this world named Erica so she completely had the wrong number when we verified the telephone number in the wrong party. Once we were seated, the waitress was not the friendliest person. We had a party of five and it was all of our first time being there so we were asking what are the favorites that she recommends and she was very dry and basically was like whatever you want. She made us feel like we were getting on her nerves or she was irritated with the day and was ready to go. I get that you're working in front face customer service and sometimes people may not be as nice but every new customer should be treated fairly. We wanted to try everything and unfortunately for me the food just tasted hot like they mix a lot of different hot sauces together to call it cajun and everything was nasty to me other than the hush puppies and the oysters. I forgot to take pictures of the noodles. They were not good at all and also the shrimp we had got a pound with the seasoning and it wasn't the greatest. It's crawfish season & Tasty Tails is my favorite place to get my crawfish fix. I came on a Tuesday because you can't beat 7.99/lb crawfish. To get the price, you have to get it NOLA style & even though I love the butte sauce, the NOLA just hits. Without all the butter, you really get to enjoy the crawfish and the seasoning that the crawfish gets soaked into. It's spicy and I can literally just sit there & eat 10 pounds. Unfortunately, I did not eat 10 pounds but I did get 2 lbs to go & it was even better the next day. I went during happy hour & got boiled shrimp & seafood egg rolls (not on the happy hour menu but definitely worth full price). The egg rolls are hearty and so good with all the cheese & seafood. Definitely recommend. Their oysters are bomb too. Our server, Amanda, was super attentive & friendly. Julie also stopped by our table & gave us great service. Walk It Like a Dog (Gator Dog): It was okay--couldn't really discern the gator flavor. It's a solid hot dog but nothing extraordinary. On the bright side, I love the environment here! When you enter, you're greeted by a beautiful, colorful mural of all things New Orleans. There are beads dangling from the ceiling, and lots of other small decor that recreates that comforting feeling of New Orleans that everyone loves. The music is lively. They play both old and new school R&B, which I love! I sang along to every song while I waited for my food. The staff was also kind. Our food didn't take long to come out either. On the contrary, this place has a hit or miss menu. I think the key is to know what to get from here and stick to it. We ordered the crawfish (NOLA style), which is your traditional boiled crawfish and it was good! There is a slight spice, but it isn't overwhelming (I would like it spicier, but all Nola style crawfish is cooked the same way and spice level). I would've loved to taste the flavor a litttttttle bit more if they left the crawfish juice in the bag (they drain the juice and bring the crawfish to you dry), but they were nice enough to bring us some on the side. Unfortunately, by the time we got the juice, all the crawfish had been eaten. It looked good though! I will try next time. We were offered their house sauce to eat our crawfish with and it was not good. I'm not sure what flavor that was, it almost tasted like an oddly spicy barbecue sauce and there's an aftertaste I can't put my finger on?? My family didn't enjoy it. You have the choice to get your crawfish with that sauce or without. I would opt out and maybe ask for some butter and seasoning on the side. The staff are extremely friendly and was happy to answer all of our questions and request for recommendations. We ordered the Crawfish and Crab Beignets. You wouldn't think a savory beignets works, but it was delicious! The filling is seasoned well with nice chunks of crab and crawfish and top with a Cajun sauce that rounds out the dish with a hint of spice. We also ordered the Pina Colada Daiquiri. The flavor is decent, but it was frosted perfectly, so it was very refreshing especially in this Texas heat. Additionally, we ordered the Chicken Wings with "Who Dat Sauce", NOLA Pasta, Oyster Po'Boy, Catfish and Shrimp Basket and Soft Shell Crab Basket. Every dish is delivered to the table right when it's done cooking. So everything is fresh and hot, but the down side is there is a little wait for everyone to get their dish (in case you like waiting for all the dishes before diving in). Overall, we like all our dishes and the prices are reasonable for a seafood boil spot. We will definitely be back to try their Peel & Eat options. Side note: A few reviews mentioned a sewage smell. We noticed a strong cleaning smell when we first walked in, but it became less noticeable as we ate our meal. Boyfriend and I were in the area so we decided to stop by around 2pm for a late lunch. This is our first time at this location. I appreciate the restaurant honesty with a sign out front apologizing that they are backed up, so there'll be delayed. So we were seated really quickly. Our waitress was a young gal named Rebecca H. (From the receipt). She took our drinks order. It took at least 15 minutes before we got our water. I had ordered a frozen daiquiri. She told me that there isn't a bartender at the moment, but my drink will be coming. We ordered our food. My drink never came, nor did she ever come back to update me on it. Finally when our food started to come out, we inquired about my drink. This has already been 30 minutes. The server went to check on it. Apparently the flavor I wanted was out of service. He kindly offered another flavor, but I said no, it's okay. We sort of never saw our waitress again at our table. She walked around and helped other tables, but she didn't seem very urgent with anything. We finished eating and waited for a while for our tab. There was a line growing at the counter waiting to be seated so we waved down a random guy to let us cash out. He kindly apologized for the lack of service. Overall, food was okay. It was flavorful. But service was horrible. I can understand the delay in service due to being short staffed for the day, but the miscommunication about my drink was what caused the low rating.
