I love coming here. I've moved back to Livermore in 2015 and its still my favorite sushi and Japanese style food in here. But I do recommend that if you do not handle crowded spaces or have a party of 4+ this may not be the best fit since it's a small restaurant- definitely not meant for groups. They now offer outdoor dining due to Covid and quite spacious but I don't think they clean each table good enough. There is no hand sanitizer at each table, still provide paper menu as the menu scan doesn't work well. When we went there, the was only one lady server and she was very slow, kept forgetting what we asked such as napkins, water, etc..but it's understandable she seemed busy. Also, they charged us an extra for gingers ? This wasn't my first time at this place, never got charged. Like I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurants and I've never got charged for it at all. We never had tried this place when we lived in Livermore. We moved to Tracy and with covid letting outdoor dining there in Livermore we decided to go and try a new place. It was awesome! The service, the food etc. we had the soft shell crab and edamame as our starters. So yummy! Then we had a poke roll ( forget the exact name) and the rainbow roll. It was so delicious and fresh. If you're getting bad customer service, than you're probably a bad customer. I've never had bad service at this establishment. I've always had amazing food and friendly staff here. If anything, other customers talking loudly and not being mindful of others is my only complaint. My girlfriend is vegan and the staff are well educated on their rolls and ingredients. UPDATE: since the last time below we decided to try an early dinner around 6:30pm on a Friday night. We were greeted right away and three different people asked if someone had taken our drink order. Our food came our quick and was delicious. They had alot of chefs at the bar so maybe this will help. Only 4 stars for now since this was just one time! Usually this place is our go to Sushi spot in Livermore. You have to love the fact it's in Downtown Livermore first off and it's always busy! The ownership has changed though I think and since service has gone down. The last time we were there we waited an hour! Yes and hour to be served. With no apologies. In fact when my husband mentioned the delay on the food order the waitress was snappy and explained they had a large group come in right before us. We love sushi and have been all over Livermore but have to finally say, Roppongi is the best. Fresh, delicious, Sexy Casanova and Dragon Rolls are amazing. Can't go wrong with the Rainbow Roll either. Our quaint little table outside was the perfect setting for our wedding anniversary dinner. Great service, a perfect night. The only downside, the wine price per glass is outrageous. $13.50. So drink before you get there and spend your money on the outstanding sushi. read more

I have been looking for a good sushi joint in this area and Bay Area every time we're here for my sons soccer and never found one surprisingly until today, I chose this place because they were open, but was surprised with the service and the freshness of the fish. Literally the fish was melting in our mouths, prices were great, only $15 for fatty tuna while other places we pay $35-45 for 2 pieces, same with giant clam. We decided to write a review after a modification to our normal service experience. We have been going to Roppongi happy hour for months and have been very satisfied with our food and with the menu. However this new happy hour menu is disappointing. The new happy hour menu is confusing due to its length, and its lack of description about the dishes. I would also say that the structure is a bit odd. The menu is very large but it is organized by price instead of by the type of item you are ordering. It's not clear what some of the menu items even are. The food in general is very good, but it seems like now, you don't get a lot for your dollar. For example, I ordered the shrimp ceviche. There was very very little actual shrimp in the shrimp ceviche. It was 90% fruits and vegetables. So it was pretty tasty but it really didn't have much shrimp, and was a lot more like a salad than an entree. Furthermore, the happy hour menu no longer has sushi rolls on it, or teriyaki bowls, which were a fan favorite. These dishes were easy to order and very satisfying. With this revised menu, I'm not going to make it a point to go to happy hour. If they change it back to the way it was, I'll gladly continue to go. read more

Relative to other avaliable sushi restraunts in the area, Roppongi is nothing to write home about. The menu does not have much variety; it was actually difficult for me to choose two rolls because everything was so similar that I was struggling to find rolls that I felt were different enough to justify purchasing two. The price point is also a bit higher than other nearby sushi joints, but when I received my plate I totally understood why. The portions here are HUGE compared to other places. Stopped in on a Thursday night for a couple quick rolls and to check out the new place. I had only been to the previous place a few times but preferred a few other places in town. Highly enjoyed the Gangnam Style roll. It was fun that it showed up on fire! We chose the roll based on the description and was surprised to see it show up. It wasn't like those gross baked mayo rolls. This was actually fresh but with the bottom kinda sweet and caramelized. I was also entertained that the older chef did the little horsey dance when the song came on the sound track. We sat at the bar and the sushi chefs were really friendly and wanted to know how the rolls were. I noticed a bunch of Korean items on the menu. I'll be back to try those for sure. I never really bothered checking this place out since I'm not a sushi lover so I never thought I'd find something worthwhile here. Boy, was I wrong. They have quite a delicious variety of veg-friendly choices and they don't skimp on anything! Every dish is hearty and satisfying for the tummy and the taste buds. I'm a sucker for their tempura dishes. It's a little expensive to dine very often, but a welcome treat anytime nonetheless. We frequent a lot of sushi places and this is one of them. Located in the Livermore downtown area, the place gets lively at night. We always get our sushi fix which consists of cowboy roll, dragon roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll (which has very thick rice to tuna ratio and not that spicy) and of course the fresh thick cut sashimis. Servers were delightful (at times) and the quick turn around of food were great. They also serve Korean dish if you're up for it and wanting to try something else other than their sushi menu. You get complimentary soup and salad if you wanted them too. So every time we're in the area this is our go to sushi place to get our grub on. read more

The consistent, exceptional service I have received at Roppongi's is unprecedented. Our waitress, Connie, is such a sweet and thoughtful person with an infectious laugh and beaming smile. Just one example of her attentiveness is how she took the time to remember my name after my second visit. Connie treated us like we were members of her family. She was honest and upfront when my friend and I wanted to try the Korean noodles; she warned us that the noodles may not reach their full potential because the main noodle chef was absent that day. So I ordered the dolsot bibimbop with spicy pork, and my friend ordered the udon noodle soup. Connie served us the standard miso soup, salad, and hot tea as appetizers. She also brought us a complementary plate of Japanese croquettes (fried potato cakes, crispy on the outside, moist and flaky inside). Then she brought out our entrees: one bento box combination, two udon noodles, and finally, my bibimbop still piping hot in a stone bowl with sides of cabbage kimchee, japchae glass noodles, and bean sprouts. My favorite part of bibimbop is mixing together the various toppings with the crisped rice at the bottom of the hot stone bowl. Each spoonful contained a different ratio of rice to mushroom to pork to egg to veggies. My mouth never got bored until all of the food was gone! During service, Connie seamlessly refilled our drinks, and practically read my mind after I finished my last grain of rice in the bibimbop bowl. I was craving something sweet and thirst quenching. The sushi chef brought out a platter of peeled and sliced fruit...THANK YOU! What a picture perfect meal! I'll be back next week to try Roppongi's Korean noodles or a special roll from their sushi menu, as per Connie's recommendations. Connie's charm can light up even the gloomiest of days. Accountability!! I value customer service above everything. This place gets the highest rating from me due to how they resolved an issue. My pick-up order was due at a certain time. However, communication breakdown between the cashier and the kitchen caused me to wait for 45 additional minutes for a pick-up that was promised an hour earlier. Instead of arguing with me and making excuses, the owner recognized my frustration and offered to comp my order to compensate for the long wait. That was an unexpected but welcoming surprise. It's great when businesses take responsibility for mistakes even if they were unintentional. The owner valued the customer over $$$ which made me come back multiple times after the incident and write this 5-star review. Food is amazing too. The tuna is fresh and prepared with care. Pardon the review, but my son just left this restaurant and accidentally left his wallet on the table. When he realized he had left it, he called the restaurant to ask if they found it, or if anyone had turned it in. He said the person on the phone initially said they didn't have it, but then after hearing a woman's voice saying yes they did have it, he went to pick it up and found all of the money missing. The young man that worked there became confrontational with my son and threatened him, saying to come back at 10:00 when he gets off of work. He will be reporting this the police department. Needless to say I will never eat at this restaurant and will spread the word about the dishonest employee. We've never experienced anything like this anywhere in Livermore. Don't come here if you're expecting high quality fish. Had sashimi and nigiri for dinner and it was terrible. The color of the fish was very off-putting. It must've been the B-Team for sushi this night because all the cuts of fish looked like they were sliced with a butter knife. Nothing was uniform and in one instance, I couldn't bring myself to eat the last piece of salmon nigiri. The piece was so mishapen and colorless it just wasn't worth it. At $25 a plate, this restaurant should really step up their game. Rice was room temperature, as was the fish......meaning way too warm for me. I get that it's a hot day, but the fish should be much colder than "warm" Maybe this place is more for the crowd that just wants sushi "rolls", and even then they were not anything special from what anyone else at my table ordered. Do yourselves a favor and don't come here if you're actually expecting fresh quality fish for sashimi and nigiri. Glad I didn't order the Uni, that might've been a disaster. We saw this restaurant change from Sushi-ya (which we never did try) to Roppongi almost overnight it seemed.. We were out late at the Pourhouse a few weekends ago, and there was a server out front at about 10:30pm, the door was open and the restaurant was lit up. I told Julie that it's cool that a restaurant is open late here. We had eaten already. Next weekend, same deal. Out late, drinking wine. We were across the street listening to a guitar player on the sidewalk, they were out front saying hi, door open,,, we hadn't eaten so we went in. SUPER friendly. SUPER nice and Super neat place. Good food. I highly recommend. All the food we have tried is Outstanding. Have not had the BBQ yet. The Chef working that first night was "Justin" The lady there is very outgoing.. I wanted something new and different that I had never tried.. ordered bibimbap with egg on it and cooked in Clay Pot. Its a rice, vegetable and meat/seafood/tofu dish that they fry on egg on.. The lady came and stirred it up and served it up to me... WOW.. I really liked it. I have had it twice now..It's a new favorite..... They serve green tea in insulated stainless steel tumblers. The sushi portions are very generous and made with style. Every chef has been great. They quickly recooked my dish the last time I went in as I hadn't known to order it Clay Pot style...But she saw from my expression when she placed it that I wanted Clay pot!. Back it went and out it came 10 minutes later, in Clay Pot, served it for me and waited to make sure I liked it. I went in for Lunch and the Soup bowl for $8.00 was generous and the broth very tasty. not salty. I also love the Yamato down the street for similar (Japanese BBQ - Hibachi) but truth be told the Yamato has no atmosphere, which hurts them I think - great food but... People don't venture in...
