I usually don't leave reviews unless I've had a really, really bad experience -- but Rose City Sunroofs deserves a huge shoutout for how incredible they were! I had been calling all over trying to find someone who could fix my sunroof that was stuck vented. Several people and companies I spoke with actually referred me to Rose City Sunroofs -- many don't even want to mess with sunroofs because they're so complicated. A few other places said they could "take a look," but no one gave me real confidence they could actually close or fix it. The dealership wanted to charge way too much. This morning, I called and spoke with Shelley. She was so kind and told me to bring it right over so they could take a look. I quickly got my 4-year-old ready, and we headed out. Maybe an hour or so later, we were already heading back home -- with a fully closed and locked sunroof! I later learned you're actually supposed to get your sunroof serviced every three years -- something I had no idea about until now. After this experience, I wouldn't trust anyone else to handle it. Based on their knowledge, experience, and the amazing customer service I received, I know I'm in great hands. We live way out of town. The owners were so gracious working with our schedule to arrange after hours drop off and pick up. Shelley and Tracy's expertise was evident. They worked hard to find the right parts for my husband's vintage 4Runner, were honest about what was and was not achievable, and very generously stuck to their original bid when it turned out the entire headliner needed to be replaced. Requested a quote for repairing inoperable sunroof controls & cleaning the drains. They never responded. I waited a week, but this is nuts. There isn't even an email or website, just an answering machine. Meanwhile, it's the rainy season and I have a leaking sunroof to deal with. Multiple other mechanics recommended this shop to me and it seems like they are the only sunroof repair business in Portland. It really sucks that they are gatekeeping a pretty important service that isn't really offered elsewhere in town. Great opportunity for ANYBODY else to compete! My mechanic recommended this business as he was booked too far out. They are one of the few who specialize in sun/moon roofs. The experience was above and beyond: faster than promised, good value, and an education on maintenance that will certainly save me money in the long term. I think I know my vehicle quite well, but sunroof drain tubes is something I never knew about. The location set-up does make me wonder where you're going to wait if it's a 1/2 day job. If your vehicle has a sunroof/moonroof and takes on water internally anytime it rains, you need to go see this fantastic team!! The drainage channels on my 2014 Ford Explorer got clogged and a downpour caused significant interior flooding - my center console had over an inch of standing water, the USB ports got flooded and shorted out my NAV system, and the water also managed to fry the sunroof motor and rear camera. I couldn't open the sunroof to clean out the clogged drainage tubes... I got the USB ports and rear camera fixed but I feared the most expensive repair was the sunroof - I was wrong!! The reviews for Rose City Sunroofs were already very convincing, and they definitely lived up to everything good said about them. They quoted me a price which was so much lower than what I anticipated, I did a happy dance!! They ordered a motor, got me on their schedule within a week, and had me back out on the road on the appointed day with a fully functional sunroof in less than 3 hours. They also take the time to show their customers how to keep the drains clean to prevent flooding in the future. I was discriminated against and denied service without reason. Completely disappointed in their customer service. We explained I desperately need to fix my car's leak in the moonroof to be fixed because I had mold in my car (already remediated) causing me to have severe respiratory and health problems. I was granted funds from my healthcare insurance (CareOregon) through a program that covers health-related expenses that aren't billable to insurance. I used this application to pay for my mold remediation at a different location without issue. My partner explained the situation to the person at RCS on the phone because I have difficulty speaking from my health issues caused by the mold. We explained we wouldn't book the appointment until they received the payment (check) from my healthcare company. RCS refused to send us a quote by email after telling us on the phone it would be 700 dollars. Our next step will be contacting the better business bureau. The money is valid, from a reputable source, that will pay before services, and we are simply trying to have an improved quality of life. This is unacceptable and discriminatory behavior towards low income people with health issues, especially if you are the only place in town who can perform this type of service repair. read more

My Mom had a leak and the dealership she went to said it was her sunroof. They recommended some places in Beaverton but she's 84 and didn't want to get lost. We found a website for Rose City Sunroofs so she brought her van in to get it checked. Tracy looked it over and cleaned it up. He found that the issue wasn't the sunroof itself but a seam that was put in when it was installed. He fixed it right up and didn't charge my Mom an arm and her first born! I called Rose City Sunroof as our Subaru sunroof was leaking. We first discovered it was leaking after going through a car wash. At that point, we had taped up the sunroof so we were just waiting to get it repaired. After I explained the situation to them, they thought that it might not be a leak at all and told me to remove the tape and see if it is still leaking. We took it through the car wash and it was fine. I really appreciate that they went out of their way to tell me how to troubleshoot the issue before bringing it to them. Don't make the mistake I did. If you notice water dripping inside your car and your car has a sunroof, don't waste your time and money going to an auto glass shop. The problem's not the windshield. As I learned from Rose City Sunroof, 90% of the time it's the sunroof. Glass repair shops know nothing, really, about sunroofs, and the technician at the one I went to didn't even know that sunroofs have rear drains. Rose City blew out my sunroof's drains properly, cleaned and oiled the track, and put me back on the road, quickly, efficiently, and with a smile. Superlative service. I'd give them seven stars if I could. I hate dealing with car repairs. And, my VW Jetta wagon was flooded inside. I'm talking about an inch plus of water on the carpets and floor mats everytime it rained. I tried to fix it via Youtube videos and did my research on all of the VW issues with the large sunroofs. Finally I took it to the dealer- who said that "yes, it was a common problem" but that since I was not under warranty any longer- I was looking at a $3600+ repair. For a sunroof? I was so discouraged I asked about a trade in. THEN i read the reviews about Rose City Sunroof. As soon as I talked to them - I knew they would be honest, at let me know what to do. I'd read about the crappy VW sunroofs, and Rose City totally agreed with me that the safest and best bet was to seal my sunroof because they just don't hold up. They did this, got all the water out, made my car smell and look better on the interior then it ever had-- and it was $1000!!!! I almost sold traded in for so little because it was such a mess. While looking for someone to help fix my car's sunroof so that it would open and close on demand as opposed to when it wants to open and close. I came across Rose City Sunroofs on Yelp and I promptly called RCS to make an appointment. A lady by the name of Shelly promptly finds a spot to squeeze me into what is already an overbooked calendar when I told her that I was leaving out of town shortly and would greatly appreciate it if the repair can be made before I leave town. On the day of the appointment, Tracy asked me to show him what the problem was. After describing the problems, he examines the sunroof and declared that it is an MB synchronization problem and it was resolved just by re-synchronize the Sunroof. As to the overshoot problem, he suggested a workaround instead of tearing into the control module which replacement which would have cost upwards of thousands for the replacement module. He recommends that I continue to use the "workaround" method until the roof becomes unmanageable, then at which time, it will make sense to do a replacement. I took his advice and ask him about the cost of this visit and his time. He graciously responded it is on the house. While driving home from his shop, I kept playing back in my mind what had happened. I was really taken by his good nature in helping me when all I needed was to be educated on how to operate the sunroof when it gets out of sync. I was also taken by his honesty for not trying to upsell me on a service that I did not need. It is clear to me that Tracy operates his shop with Integrity and Honesty. Not only will he be my go-to guy for future sunroof repairs, but I will also be referring everyone that I know who needs a Sunroof service. read more

I can't say enough in praise of Rose City Sunroofs. We had my daughter's car into them a month ago for a leaky trunk. Tracy went above and beyond to diagnose the cause(s) of the leak and to fix it. He sealed trouble spots and relined the trunk lid seal. He kept us informed every step of the way. He came over after hours to put the vehicle inside the shop after a part that was ordered arrived. When the sunroof wouldn't close and rain was getting and I called them and at first, they were great and alerted me to a recall and set me up for an appointment for getting it fixed. The first visit went OK except that it didn't fix the original problem I called about. On another visit, they told me to come in at a certain time and told me would take about an hour. When I made the now third one-way 45 minute trek, they asked me if I could leave the car all day. They did not have a loaner vehicle for me and I had an appointment that was only supposed to take an hour. When I told him that I could not leave it and that it was difficult for me to go back-and-forth, the person at the front desk went to the back talk to somebody and then returned and reported that they would do it right away. A ginormous man who was very intimidating came stomping out, frowning, ask for my keys, whisked the car away and within 10 minutes, came back with keys in hand and said he was done. At this point I wasn't certain they did everything they were supposed to do- didn't they say it would take an hour? Or all day? I couldn't fathom why it would take them all day or that they had asked for an entire hour to begin with. They also told me that this particular service would cost $60. They charged me 80. I didn't argue. I was somewhat terrified and I wanted to get out of there. Not only did they *not* fix the problem that I went in for originally, but they did *not* also clear the drains as they said they would. I went to my local hardware store and had them help me out. Went to Rose City Sunroof for a persistent leaky sunroof on my 2003 Pontiac Vibe. Originally, I went to Doctor Agua in Vancouver, WA. The repair person said that one of the hoses that diverts water from the sunroof had slipped off its nipple, causing a leak. After several days and $240, the leak seemed to disappear. Until six months later when it returned. I came to Rose City Sunroof after reading its great reviews. Tracy, a big, happy fellow, took a look and quickly fixed the problem. The real culprit? A kink in the same hose Doctor Agua described was causing water to collect and leak between the nipple and the hose. Doctor Agua decided to glue the sh** out of the connection of the hose and the nipple, without ever even noticing the kink. Tracy got down to the real problem within an hour, and for $120 - half the cost of Doctor Agua's "repair." I'm finally relieved to solve the problem, and so thankful to Rose City Sunroof! read more

When another mechanic referred to Tracy as "The Inalfa King," I was admittedly a bit skeptical. The King? Of a sub-type of a sunroof? Frankly, it sounded like a bunch of bogus! That is, until I met the man. Tracy, a jolly titan equipped with a wry grin and a radiant disposition. I showed him my battered, depressed sunroof, sloppily laced with silicone -- with panache he assessed the damage, then quoted me a price half that of any previous estimate. In half the time. He didn't even do that thing all mechanics do, when they cringe and inhale sharply and sort of hiss through their teeth, apprehensively. He didn't do that once. Two weeks later, I drove away not only leak-free, but with a fully functional power sunroof, a luxury I haven't been able to enjoy in 3-odd years. Tracy did a bunch of extra work, no added cost. I couldn't wait to share the news with friends and coworkers! It made a very dull story, for it is impossible to convey the elation of a great repair to anyone who has not suffered the same annoyances for months, or years. Which is why I'm trying again, here. I had noticed some shaking in my sunroof. yes, it had leaked previously and yes I had been to Rose City Sunroof to have them fix that leak. It worked for a while, but when it leaked the following year I made the huge mistake of going to a different shop in Tualatin, Oregon that overcharged me for a simple fix. Rose City Sunroofs told me I should have come back because they back up the quality of their work. I did that today. The sunroof was fixed in record time, he took it out, did minor drilling to make it fit better and so there are no gaps and now I feel confident the shaking is gone, yet I still have to take it out on the freeway to make sure. I Will come back later, all in all, I am very satisfied and couldn't be happier with his work. They rock. The best news, because they do really stand behind their work I was not charged this time. Fantastic experience! I've had sunroofs/moonroofs in my last several cars and the one common thing is that they have each broken.
