I was in the Water Street area, hungry for lunch, and saw Rose Garden Chinese Restaurant. I went on Yelp! to see what is up with this place and to check out the menu. They had some good reviews and a very extensive menu. I walked in and eventually placed a take-out order consisting of a General Tao Chicken combination plate, and a Shrimp in Garlic Sauce combination plate. The reason is called a combination plate is because it comes with spring rolls, curry puff, and soup. Choice of either fried rice or white rice, i got both with fried rice. You don't get the soup with take-out. I got home and immediately opened both plates, which smelled really good on the drive home in the car. First impressions, the fried rice had a little speck of egg, and that's it, and probably just seasoned with some soy sauce. That's it. No meat, carrots, peas, green onions, nothing. The taste was a good as it looked. The shrimp in Garlic Sauce tasted ok, but was not what I was expecting. General Tao Chicken was good, nice portion of chicken and the sweet and sour sauce was tasty. I was given 3 spring rolls and 2 curry puffs, but not sure if I was shorted one spring roll, or given an extra one. Taste was good, crisp but oily. Oh, honey... Rose Garden Chinese Restaurant looks like a relic with decor and furniture seemingly plucked straight out of the past and deposited on Pacific just off Water St. I was in the mood to grab some food after running errands nearby and decided to stop in to try a particular childhood favorite. That dish is honey walnut shrimp ($12.95, despite the takeout menu listing it at $11.95). Always made my parents order it at Chinese restaurants, typically loved it on account of juicy shrimp, sweet mayo-based sauce, and crunchy candied walnuts. The shrimp was cooked nicely here and did have a crispy texture. The sauce was just the way you'll almost always have it. However, the walnuts portion was so skimpy that it was at best a 1:2 ratio. As in 1 piece of walnut to two shrimp. You have to have a walnut in every bite. C'mon! It's in the name, for crying out loud. Oh, and as I was going though the white rice at the start of dinner, I found a lot of brown coloration, as if they'd overcooked some of the rice on the edges of the pot and simply scooped it into the to-go box. The rice was just fine in hydration, but the lack of attention to detail was very off-putting in the moment and was compounded later on. Rose Garden is potentially satisfactory for the cheap lunch specials or for a quick takeout if you're in the neighborhood (or even live nearby). I'm conflicted about this place. It's pretty much a hole in the wall. The decor is awful and they have a trashy little corner set up where you can buy pjs, and a bunch of little knickknacks. The sweet and sour was really over cooked, chicken was like wood. I did like the sizzling rice soup, it's hard to find and it was good. I may go back for the soup, but that's about it. read more

We passed by this location and decided to give it a try. It's a hole in the wall and normally these sort of restaurants have the most delicious food. BOY WERE WE WRONG!! There were a few other tables occupied. The inside of the restaurant is old, but clean and lots of seating. It looks like someone sleeps in the restaurant. Off near the kitchen was a table and booth with personal items and a blanket and pillow on the bench. We were seated and order taken right away Drinks came out right away as did our egg rolls. They were crispy and flavorful. Then it all started to fall apart. We ordered the Chinese roast pork. The picture on the menu was different from what we were served. It had a ketchup base topping that was gross. When I asked the server if this was roast pork, he said yes that they add the gravy, I said the photo does not show this, he seemed puzzled to our question. After we ordered our food, a couple people came in to place take out orders. They served the take out, before our order. Instead of bringing our entrees all out at the same time, about 25 minutes later Our food started to come out one dish at a time. By the time the last dish was served our first 2 were cold. The food tasted heavy of MSG and was very oily. I got an upset stomach after eating it. We had to flag down our server for our check, then he never came back to take our payment. So I had to walk over to the kitchen to have him ring us out. Food is bad, service sucks we'll never return. Ordered from here many times before the food is always pretty good but it went in today at 3:30 December 6 the streets were blocked off. It was hard to find a street to get through to get to the restaurant. Finally, my wife is able to find a way in and we had asked for instructions on our way out a whole another story, but got to the restaurant two restaurant employees arguing with each other screaming at each other completely unprofessional. I think they need to take a strong look at themselves because that is not good. Customer service having a customer in there waiting for his food and they have female and male yelling at each other. It's just wrong. We have eaten here in the past and would have given a 5 star rating, but now a 2-star is a stretch. We ordered a $50.00+ takeout. The appetizers, though plentiful, were horribly overcooked. The entree's were no different. The rice was dry, and tasteless, the chow mein and low mein, bland I'd like to say the service was better, but it was not. I had to check in the kitchen after the person that greeted us had disappeared. As I past the table of a few, what appeared to be guests, one met me at the kitchen entrance, found our order and brought it to the attention of our host, who brought it out shortly after. This would be a tried it and will not be back. Smelled funny in there and it was a mismatch of decoration as you enter they have stuff being sold on one table. A wall of post it and on the walls paintings of cherry blossom. For me it's like not authentic Chinese food. I think Panda Express is better! The crispy noodles was on a bed of cabbage and onions and crispy noodles like the one you buy in the can and put on you salad. Orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken was not crispy. I'm so sad to give this place the one star I'm giving it. We were in the mood for some Chinese food, and we ended up settling on this place, since we are doing our best to try and support our local businesses during times like these. I tried to like this place, and went in thinking we'd be satisfied since they have great reviews with food and the service. Even in times like these, we are trying to maintain social distancing rules; so we can appreciate the fact that a lot of restaurants are only doing takeout and trying to keep their business afloat. My husband really loves General Tso's chicken and was so excited they had it. He went in and asked if they were doing only takeout, or dine in. (We were psyched they allowed us to go in and have dinner.) The decor is outdated, the booths are old and creaky, and it was so hot in there. It was just a bad experience overall. I don't know honestly if it was because we showed up almost closing time, or they didn't want us to get too close to them, which is COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE in times like these, but we will never be going back. The food was only about $30 before tip, and it was okay served, but the service was terrible. We were being watched as we ate, which was the worst part of the service to me! Mind you, we were the only people in the place besides the staff, and 2 people who walked in for a pickup. We quickly got asked if we knew what we wanted, we opted for the dine in meal deals since this was our first time there, and the food was not good. It tasted like it was all frozen, and just tossed in store bought sauces. Th rice was just tossed in soy sauce, it had no flavor at all. The best part of the meal was the egg roll, and that was frozen. The server brought our drinks, we tried to be as polite as possible, and never got any indication that she was appreciative that we were appreciative, and I even got my straw thrown towards my drink. The food was a decent price, but the service was so bad, and the food was bland, that I'm so sad we weren't able to experience all the great service or great tasting food we read about. I've lived in Las Vegas for almost 7 years and have tried many of the Chinese restaurants in both Vegas and Henderson... until now none of them were worth writing a review about. Rose Garden is Amazing!!! Our family went on Sunday and will definitely be regulars!! The gentleman who took care of us, Cai, was one of the best servers I've had in a very long time. He was attentive without hovering, kept our beverages full, made superb suggestions when we asked questions about the menu items, but most important: he was friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had the best service experience possible. Each of us ordered different items so we could sample and share as many items as possible. My Lemon Chicken was so good I didn't want to share, but did, and still had some left to bring home. Every dish was obviously cooked fresh to order and was beautifully presented at the perfect temperature! My only regrets: not taking any photos to showcase the fare, and not having room to sample any of the variety of available choices for desert. We will be back soon! read more

I opened a business on Horizon Drive and have found myself desperate for food late in the day. I've ordered from my tried and true Chinese restaurant and also tried a new place further down from my boutique. Today I thought Rose Garden would be a good idea based on reviews. Unfortunately, I can only give two stars. The food just wasn't that great. I took home some shrimp with snow peas and some Kung Pao Chicken. 1. The food was cold by the time I got home and I live 10 minutes away. 2. The King Pao shows a chili indicating hot. I also requested for it to be extra spicy. There was zero spicy to this dish. It also hardly had any peanuts. I had to add my own to make it better. 3. The shrimp dish was sweet. Imagine the flavor of cabbage (the dish had cabbage) and this is what it tasted like. I never use the soy packets but I poured an entire packet on my serving of the Shrimp dish, it didn't help. Once again, it was also cold. 4. Both orders came with fried rice. It was literally rice with soy sauce. It seemed old. Also cold. 5. The lunch menu was certainly cheaper than the other restaurants but the portions were very small. My normal go to Chinese charges about $3 more for lunch specials and they are filled to the brim. It takes me approximately 3 days to eat all of the food. It's always fresh and perfectly seasoned. I will not name the restaurant here but you should bE able to find it by searching other restaurants in the area. read more

Avoid this place. This is not your usual review. First off, I have heard great things about "New York Chinese Restaurant" and not "Rose Garden". I searched for New York Chinese Restaurant and placed an order for pick up through Uber Eats. Upon arriving at New York Chinese Restaurant they advised me that they are not part of Uber Eats. The people working there told me that this was the second time that this had occurred on that day . I rechecked my receipt and it showed an address on Pacific Ave in Henderson but still said New York Chinese Restaurant on the receipt. It turned out to be Rose Garden Chinese Restaurant. While we did not intend to order from Rose Garden, we thought we might as well have the food that we paid for. We didn't understand the glitch and we drove to Rose Garden Chinese restaurant to pick it up. We explained the mixup to the guy working at the Rose Garden restaurant, and he mumbled something about a "ghost kitchen". I didn't understand what he was trying to say, but we just took our food and went home. We had ordered General Tao's, chicken, chicken curry entrées along with Bok Choy. The entire order was $59. To our amazement, no rice was included. We thought they had just forgotten to put it in so I called the Rose Garden restaurant. The same employee answered the phone and told me that rice is not included with Uber Eats orders. While he was explaining why I hung up the phone as I did not want to hear his poor excuse. The menu clearly said rice was included with the dishes. Thankfully, Uber Eats is great to work with. I explained to them how my order to the New York Chinese restaurant was redirected to this Rose Garden place. They are looking into how this occurred and have refunded the entire amount of my order. Avoid the Rose Garden restaurant at all costs, unless, of course you're looking for the cheap T-shirts that they sell on a table inside the restaurant for five dollars cash only. read more

I don't typically eat Chinese food because it always seems so greasy and heavy, but was getting a craving tonight and remembered that my Mom and I had been wanting to try this place, but they aren't open for lunch. Anyhow I got the wonton soup, chicken egg rolls, Szechuan Chicken, and Chicken Lo Mein. I have to say everything was fantastic. The first thing I noticed was that the food was not greasy and heavy. Everything was cooked well and had good flavor. I asked for "very spicy" for my Szechuan Chicken. They did a pretty good job of a nice spice. I can handle more, but know most people don't realize HOW spicy I like it, so I don't knock them for that. All in all I was very happy with my meal. 3.5 STARS In the heart of downtown Henderson's Water Street District there sits a small family-owned restaurant named the Rose Garden. It is in anything but a rose garden. It stands in a turn of the century business district that looks like the Old West. It is off Pacific Street between Water and Atlantic Streets a stone throw from Emerald Island. What is an amoly about this Henderson business is that you can park on a street without a meter then walk inside. On my visits, I'd park in the parking lot by the gun shop. The Rose Garden is one of the two Chinese restaurants in the Water Street District. The other one is the Lotus. Being that I am on a mission to try different Chinese restaurants, it is no surprise that I dined here twice. I'd take advantage of the lunch special. In my opinion, the Chinese restaurant lunch specials are the best deals around. As soon as I looked at the lunch special sign in the window, I saw prices starting at $3.95 with the pork lo mein lunch special. The starting price entrees were only a couple. The majority were a few cents short of the average lunch special price. From my experience, Chinese restaurants come in two varieties: the take out and casual restaurant setting. This is a casual restaurant setting. Their is a waiter that brings the food to the table in regular plates with silverware. This is not a China Go Go setting where they serve the food in containers with plastic forks. The first time I dined here I ordered the shrimp lo mein lunch special. The second time I ordered the pepper steak. It came with skinny crunchy noodles with duck sauce, hit and sour or egg drop soup, fried rice, and egg roll. Hot tea is an additional 50 cents and a glass of Coke is 99 cents. After a tip the food would come out to $8.00 which in reality is on par with the majority of lunch specials. If this were a job performance evaluation, the food would be a solid performer but not a great performer. The service was likewise good. Then again it's not like I was sharing the place with many people either. The thing I dislike is that the check does not separate the tax, beverage, and entree. When I tip I like to double the tax. Oh well! It was nice dining at Rose Garden two times. The reality is that I prefer The Lotus and new China Inn very close to The Rose Garden. In my opinion, they are a star better with larger servings and not much more money. Additionally The Lotus offers wonton soup. First, we wanted to support our local small businesses not the big chains. Wanted to try eating at a restaurant we haven't ordered from before. I mean, normally can't go wrong with chinese food right? Well, at least that was the hope. FYI, I've eaten at Asian restaurants pretty much as often as folks that like eating at Asian restaurants. I just want a good meal at reasonable prices just like most people. Items ordered: Orange Chicken and Teriyaki, Pot Stickers, and BBQ sliced Pork. Orange Chicken and Teriyaki was just too watery, no flavor/bland, it wasn't good at all. 90% of it was thrown away (picked at what we could eat) too much sauce. BBQ sliced Pork was water/saucy and too sweet. How do you mess this up? We threw all of it away, couldn't eat it. The Shrimp Fried Rice was okay and only given 3 regular size shrimp in the entire dish. There are many ways to make fried shrimp dish but this was not good. My family and I experienced this earlier this week. Just my opinion based on the items ordered. If my family couldn't eat the food (they eat everything) then it was not good at all. Horrible! Service is terrible. I think they changed ownership very recently. I used to come once a week, however, last week I noticed the lunch special menu was gone. They gave a regular menu for lunch. The cook is very bad. The food lacks flavor. But the service was horrible the last two times I've been here.
