Oh, honey... Rose Garden Chinese Restaurant looks like a relic with decor and furniture seemingly plucked straight out of the past and deposited on Pacific just off Water St. I was in the mood to grab some food after running errands nearby and decided to stop in to try a particular childhood favorite. That dish is honey walnut shrimp ($12.95, despite the takeout menu listing it at $11.95). Always made my parents order it at Chinese restaurants, typically loved it on account of juicy shrimp, sweet mayo-based sauce, and crunchy candied walnuts. The shrimp was cooked nicely here and did have a crispy texture. The sauce was just the way you'll almost always have it. However, the walnuts portion was so skimpy that it was at best a 1:2 ratio. As in 1 piece of walnut to two shrimp. You have to have a walnut in every bite. C'mon! It's in the name, for crying out loud. Oh, and as I was going though the white rice at the start of dinner, I found a lot of brown coloration, as if they'd overcooked some of the rice on the edges of the pot and simply scooped it into the to-go box. The rice was just fine in hydration, but the lack of attention to detail was very off-putting in the moment and was compounded later on. Rose Garden is potentially satisfactory for the cheap lunch specials or for a quick takeout if you're in the neighborhood (or even live nearby). Judging from my order though, they're not worth any sort of mention in must-try lists or any deviation from your routine.

I'm conflicted about this place. It's pretty much a hole in the wall. The decor is awful and they have a trashy little corner set up where you can buy pjs, and a bunch of little knickknacks. The sweet and sour was really over cooked, chicken was like wood. I did like the sizzling rice soup, it's hard to find and it was good. I may go back for the soup, but that's about it.

We have eaten here in the past and would have given a 5 star rating, but now a 2-star is a stretch. We ordered a $50.00+ takeout. The appetizers, though plentiful, were horribly overcooked. The entree's were no different. The rice was dry, and tasteless, the chow mein and low mein, bland I'd like to say the service was better, but it was not. I had to check in the kitchen after the person that greeted us had disappeared. As I past the table of a few, what appeared to be guests, one met me at the kitchen entrance, found our order and brought it to the attention of our host, who brought it out shortly after. I'm not discouraging anyone from visiting this establishment, but I think I would dine in to avoid any confusion.

My family has been going to this restaurant for 5 years now and the food is always great quality & quantity. Highly recommend this for locals in the area over any other Chinese restaurant. Bonus--they also deliver! Our server Kai was really nice and friendly!

I'm so sad to give this place the one star I'm giving it. We were in the mood for some Chinese food, and we ended up settling on this place, since we are doing our best to try and support our local businesses during times like these. I tried to like this place, and went in thinking we'd be satisfied since they have great reviews with food and the service. Even in times like these, we are trying to maintain social distancing rules; so we can appreciate the fact that a lot of restaurants are only doing takeout and trying to keep their business afloat. My husband really loves General Tso's chicken and was so excited they had it. He went in and asked if they were doing only takeout, or dine in. (We were psyched they allowed us to go in and have dinner.) The decor is outdated, the booths are old and creaky, and it was so hot in there. It was just a bad experience overall. I don't know honestly if it was because we showed up almost closing time, or they didn't want us to get too close to them, which is COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE in times like these, but we will never be going back. The food was only about $30 before tip, and it was okay served, but the service was terrible. We were being watched as we ate, which was the worst part of the service to me! Mind you, we were the only people in the place besides the staff, and 2 people who walked in for a pickup. We quickly got asked if we knew what we wanted, we opted for the dine in meal deals since this was our first time there, and the food was not good. It tasted like it was all frozen, and just tossed in store bought sauces. Th rice was just tossed in soy sauce, it had no flavor at all. The best part of the meal was the egg roll, and that was frozen. The server brought our drinks, we tried to be as polite as possible, and never got any indication that she was appreciative that we were appreciative, and I even got my straw thrown towards my drink. The food was a decent price, but the service was so bad, and the food was bland, that I'm so sad we weren't able to experience all the great service or great tasting food we read about. This place did not taste authentic, im so sorry. We know good, authentic Chinese, and this place was not it.

Do they have dim sum like soup dumplings or shao mai? In their window they advertise having dim sum but I've never seen it on any menu posted

The General Tso's chicken was really good and I appreciated that they were able to make it with no spice, making it perfect for the whole family to enjoy. The shrimp chow mein was flavorful and loaded with shrimp, and the fried chicken wings came out crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Simple, tasty food with great service and an easy location to get in and out of. Definitely a spot I'll keep in mind when the Chinese food craving hits.

Ummm... ok. Sucks they messed something up on your order but things happen, and certainly wasn't a listening issue. The lady who takes your order is very thorough with her listening and does indeed repeat it carefully back to you. English isn't her first language but she definitely is not careless, and cares about getting the order correct. We got the house chow fun, sweet and sour pork, fried wontons, Mongolian beef extra spicy and Kung pao chicken. Being our first time here we wanted to get a wide variety of items to test out their range. Overall we were satisfied with our lunch. Neatly presented, generous quantity of food, everything seemed fresh, nothing off putting (too oily, soggy vegetables, too much MSG) If we're going to nitpick, they did pack the sweet and sour pork tossed in the sauce, not served on the side, so it's less crispy once you get home. But it was still good. Many places do it the latter way. In general, the quality of the proteins was like a 3, nothing exceptional. The beef is like a 2, heavily tenderized beyond anything that seems real lol. But the sauces and flavors are a 4, and that's what carries these dishes and ultimately makes them satisfying and tasty. I think, for a local place in Henderson, if you don't feel like driving to Chinatown for something more authentic, it will certainly do in a pinch and satisfy your craving.

Regardless, that was a couple of years ago. I have since decided to give it another try. My mom was wanting Chinese and we were sort of in the area after a walk. So in we came. The restaurant was mostly empty when we came in. It was late for lunch but early for dinner. We had the place to ourselves. And it was so dang quiet. No music. TV muted. A little too quiet but at least we could hear each other. I orderded mushu chicken. I hadn't had that in a long time. My mom ordered lemon chicken. My mushu was a heaping plate. So much food with 4 pancakes to wrap it in. Very good flavor. Chicken, cabbage, woodear mushrooms, bamboo, green onion, scrambled eggs. So much good stuff. No shortage of flavor here. Now for my mom's "lemon" chicken - I think something must have gotten lost in translation. It seems she was brought sweet and sour chicken instead. She ate it anyhow. I tried some of it as well and had the rest the next day. It was really good. Nice batter on the chicken. Good sauce, bell peppers and pineapple. Even if it was the wrong dish it was still really good. Service on this visit was also good. Our waiter was friendly and kept our waters filled until we left. Grand China is redeemed in my eyes. I may just have to come in again in the future.
