I can't believe I'm just now getting around to writing a review. my family and I come to Ormond for vacation every year for a month. We eat here several times during our vacation. The food is really, really good. We love the belly and biscuits. We've had pretty much everything on the menu. Every thing is great. From the sea bass to the filet. You can't go wrong. We came for dessert, particularly their famous Hummingbird Cake...but they didn't have it because of a shortage on ingredients. So we got a Chocolate cake and Peach cobbler instead. Going to Ormand Beach is not an every day trip for someone who lives in South Florida, not do I visit the area often. But the town does have some gems like Rose Villa with its terrific brunches and southern cuisine, various bars, and wonderful hospitality. We came here for brunch and, wow, it is fantastic. Starting off with Rose Tea cocktails -- peach-flavored whiskey with lemonade and sweet tea amongst other ingredients and delights, I was ready to hang a fang on an order of Belly and Biscuit. Comprising pork belly on halves of biscuits, the starter tantalized my senses before moving on to Rose's Deviled Eggs that were delightful. Also topped with pork belly, the eggs were satisfying. For a main entree, I threw caution to the wind and went for the Signature Fried Chicken that made me want to kick into a happy dance. The batter that's used to coat the chicken before deep frying was perfect -- salty, savory, satisfying, and not too heavy. The chicken came with a side of slaw and fries, and was a perfect way to end the meal; as I was too full to enjoy dessert. I will need to return to enjoy their night time bar on the third floor, enjoy an absinthe or two, or some whiskey. We were also told their desserts are made from scratch by an 87-year-old lady, so the next time we are in town, I will partake. And if you need more reason to check this place out, the building of Rose Villa used to be a hotel where Teddy Roosevelt stayed and has a dining room named after him, which is really neat. First off, the food in Ormond is really amazing in general so all of the restaurants have a tough market to compete in but Rose Villa is always a go-to for my family. Their specials change throughout the year. The ambiance is amazing, you can sit inside where it's this antiquey-old school house with lots of character or outside on their back patio under a gazebo. Been here four times now since moving to town 6 weeks ago. This is my first 6/5 rating of any restaurant based on quality, experience, and value. Sylvia is an incredible chef and I feel so fortunate to have a restaurant that I can't wait to go back to. I've been dying to try the famous pork chop and fried chicken but I always end up going with one of the specials because I chef will blow me away with another amazing creation. As for the service everyone is amazing from the hostesses, to the bartenders, and of course the servers. Every interaction has always been great. Kudos to ownership / management for creating a culture that makes this all possible. This place has great potential and great food. I had the croque madame, which tasted savory and hit the spot. However, it falls short for service. We never had our water refilled, and the request for ketchup was ignored till the last minute. I had to get up and flag down the server for the check, who was absent since the food was served. Aweful experience!!!! We ordered a sea bass dish and the fish portion was less than 5oz on a large bed of rissotto for $40. Appetizers were amazing but the salad and sea bass dishes were a huge miss. Complained to manager and they didn't even bother to comp us for that item and kept saying the portion is correct for that dish. I wish I had taken a picture to show you what a rip of that was. We felt rushed and when was told that we had to order main dish (after we had 2 appetizers and salad) that kitchen closes at 9pm and they are winding down and we had to order now. I was steaming when we left to service, food and experience. Definitely a place one should try once. I really enjoyed the house and look of the restaurant. I was somewhat disappointed in my food. I had the mushroom risotto which was pretty bland but everyone else enjoyed their dinner. Update. I was contacted by the restaurant and offered a gift card. I respectfully declined but Pat insisted. We really enjoy everything about this restaurant and we will always return. Yesterday I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. It was a bit too salty for my taste, otherwise delicious. I mentioned it to the waiter so he could tell the chef. He said it was too salty and yet you ate it all. Let me explain. Restaurants operate on a very thin margin of profitability, I am never sending my food back unless it is inedible or raw. My new favorite up-scale restaurant in Ormond Beach. The service was fast and friendly. Even before they took our order, they server brought a dish of water and food for our small service dog. Two in our party got a prix fixe service, and it was good. My wife and I went with the regular menu and were not disappointed. I got bourbon pork chop, which was cooked to perfection. I ordered a smoked Old Fashioned drink from their bourbon bar, and it was the perfect match. You have got to try the collard greens. My wife got the southern fried chicken, and it was great. We came up to Daytona for the Turkey Run and stayed in Ormand Beach. The Turkey Run, um, it was OK but dinner tonight was fantastic. We started with the Deviled Eggs. They were great and the chutney they were served with had just the right about of kick. My date had the shrimp and grits. They did not skimp on the shrimp and they make thier grits with Goat Cheese. I never thought to make cheese grits with goat cheese and we were really impressed with the flavor it adds. I had their Rose Villa Burger. I know how original, I got a burger and a nice restaurant but it just sounded good and boy was it. It came topped with a roasted tomato and was so jucy. Visiting Ormond Beach for a few days and hungry after a 3+ hour drive from Tampa area, we passed by Rose Villa and the front looked amazing. Reviews were good and I had Cajun food on my mind so we decided to try it. So glad we did. If the house looked interesting from the outside, the inside was even better. Like walking into a museum! Huge portraits of famous men such as Rockefeller, Edison, Ford, Flagler, etc. Walls and ceilings, antique furniture, Tiffany lamps, all created a 1920s atmosphere. Even the unisex (!) bathroom with gold plated fixtures was unique. No reservations but we were there for early dinner so no problem. Since I am a country boy, we had to try the Fried Green Tomatoes with Lobster Remoulade. Since I've had the FGT with sauces and prefer sauce on the side so tomatoes are not soggy. Three nice big slices, crispy and delicious. The "sauce was a 1/3 cup of wonderful buttery lobster pieces. Great! Since we had an appetizer we opted to split the Jambalaya and Chefs Seasonal Salad. The salad was cold and crisp with cran-raisins, pecans and apple. Topped with a homemade vinaigrette dressing. Also delicious. The Jambalaya had 4 huge shrimp, plenty of chicken and slices of andouille. Nice sauce with a little kick. I would have liked a little more rice and more kick. The rice I accepted but I did ask for some hot sauce. The waiter, excellent by the way, brought some hot sauce and a small dish of Cayenne pepper. A sprinkle of Cayenne made it perfect. My wife also wanted to try their Hummingbird Cake, so we ordered a slice to go. Sadly, the waiter returned and they were sold out. Oh well. Mom & I stopped in for lunch today between visiting some quilting shops for the Florida Shop Hop. This is by far our favorite restaurant in the area. Complimentary valet parking makes situated in time for our reservation a breeze. We love to sit in the gazebo because it's always pleasant even on a warm spring afternoon. There isn't a bad seat at this establishment. We sat out on the patio and it was romantic and quaint by the fountain. I walked around the inside, and you have to check out the restroom for yourself. Very cool! Our server was entertaining in that she didn't know how to pronounce most of the things on the menu, she was very sweet and checked in on us often throughout our meal. Our food and the ambiance was amazing! We were just making a quick stop on the drive from Orlando to Saint Augustine and decided to stop here for food. The only minor inconvenience was the parking. This restaurant along with the ones on the same block were very lively, I could hear live music from the patio during our dinner. I think it's encouraged to valet while dining here. Rose Villa is an absolute treat in Ormond Beach. Set in a historical home from the 1800s, it has charm and appeal wherever you dine whether it be the 2 floors indoor, on the front patio, or outside gazebo. Walls are adorned with paintings of historical figures essential to the development of the area in it's heyday. There was a wonderful musician playing songs on the back porch area, and guests seemed to really be enjoying themselves. Even the restroom had old school sinks and stain glass windows, adding to the charm. Despite being valet parking only, it was complimentary and quick, which took away the stress of finding parking in the downtown corridor of Ormond Beach. As for the food, it's southern food and reasonably priced for such a wonderful setting. We went with the chicken & waffles and southern fried shrimp. The chicken & waffles (4.5/5) hit the spot coming with a honey butter and bourbon maple syrup. The waffles were cooked with a unique batter resulting in a decent tasting creation, especially when accented by the butter and syrup. The chicken was bone in, which I usually don't like, but the southern flair was just right and chicken tender. The southern fried shrimp (4.5/5) were similarly well prepared, and came with delicious french fries (4.5/5) of which none remained when we were done with our meal. Service (4/5) was friendly and the manager really took pride in running the restaurant checking in on people during the meal, making sure guests were enjoying their meals. The ambiance (5/5) was the star of the show, being in such a historical and tastefully decorated building. Rose Villa was definitely a unique treat to visit for a meal, and one I'd definitely recommend to all visitors in the Ormond and Daytona Beach areas. read more
