With two of my favorite things being history and delicious food, I was sure to love Rose Villa. Upon entering the quaint 1800's home, we were escorted up the charming old staircase that was lined with antique photos. We were seated in the (Teddy) Roosevelt room, where I was reminded, through a large painted mural and several photos, of the many accolades of this American leader and conservationist. The visual stimuli did not stop in the restrooms, which featured gorgeous stained glass windows (pictured). The food was top notch. Appetizers included deviled eggs and crab cakes. My filet was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the snapper special with polenta and greens was amazing. Crisp cocktails and dessert of crème brûlée and berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream served as the cherry on top of an incredible dining experience with friends. Ambiance is terrific as are the two bars. I opted for a seafood night which was a mistake. The Coquilles St. Jacques sauce tasted like white wine was added later and did not compliment the starter at all. The Bouillabaisse was a disaster and had to be sent back to the kitchen, it did not resemble anything but a bad potato gratin. Our server was terrific and got me shrimp & grits almost immediately which was OK. It's a beautiful place but stick to fried chicken! read more

For date night, my wife and I visited this quaint restaurant in Ormand Beach. I consider this area, "the Ormand restaurant row". We live not too far, so we plan on visiting the area regularly. We did read the other reviews, and I must say, that we were both surprised of the lack of taste. The deviled eggs were bland, the bouillabaisse , which we both were looking forward to, was not good. It had a cinnamon nutmeg taste. I guess maybe that's a specific style, but we wanted real bouillabaisse. I had the branzino, plain and tasteless. This is my first negative review ever, but I thought it was required after reading all the raving reviews. However, the server was very good and attentive. read more

Have been there several times for cocktails, this time for dinner with a party of 4, + infant. Service was awesome, server was well informed and top notch, food was excelllent with hearty portions. What a gem in Ormond Beach! I opted to sit out on the front porch...you will be serenaded by big pipes on vehicles passing by. My server Quinn was awesome...he took excellent care of me and made sure I enjoyed my time here. Opted for a Wedge Salad and the Lobster Mac & Cheese...this is a solid meal! The wedge was great and hit all of the points of freshness and flavors. The Mac & Cheese...WOW. Incredibly creamy and rich but not overpowering to the flavors of the lobster. To start this off I really enjoyed the blueberry lemontini. It was a beautiful drink that delivered on flavor as well. The candied bacon old fashion was tasty and on par with other spots. My favorite bite was the corn chowder it was really really tasty. I liked that it was chunky and not watery at all. Just addicting. The chicken salad was excellent. We visited Rose Villa last night as an early birthday celebration! It reminded me of being in Savannah! We had an early reservation and with the hurricane coming, it was empty. We had a room to ourselves!! The waitress brought out salmon toast for each of us compliments of the chef, and it was tasty! Their drinks are tasty, but very over priced. I got the blueberry lemontini. It had a frozen mint ball with lemonade and berries in the middle. So unique. We shared muscles for $12, a nightly special. The homemade marinara sauce complimented it beautifully! They brought out homemade biscuits with honey butter after this course and honestly we wanted more. The server didn't bring any though ‍ I got the burger with goat cheese and a fried green tomato with cheese grits and they were both phenomenal!!! My husband got the lobster Mac n cheese. It was ok. Not the best we've ever had. My brother in law got the baked chicken and really enjoyed it. My sister got chicken and waffles and the house salad and enjoyed both. This used to be a hotel. It has a lot of ambiance. There is a small bar downstairs and upstairs. There are separate small dining rooms upstairs and downstairs. There is a small parking lot or free street parking. We went for lunch on a Friday. We got the last table at 12:45 PM in July. This place must be really busy during the winter. My friend had the chicken and waffles. They are amazing for the low price of $12. He got a chicken breast and wing. It comes with two small flavorful waffles that are freshly made. It is served with honey butter and bourbon syrup. I had the chicken salad sandwich without the baguette. They served it on top of shredded iceberg lettuce. It was suppose to have avocado, but I didn't get it. I believe they should have served it with mixed greens and not shredded iceberg. The chicken salad was delicious. I wish they had other side items besides fries or cole slaw. The cole slaw was good and the fries tasted fresh. There is outdoor seating on the front porch and a back porch has seating. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in the area. read more

In town visiting for birthday. There was 6 of us. Came here because it had great reviews. A friend in the party made the reservations beforehand I try to not set expectations too high going in. However, everything exceeded my expectation from entering in the restaurant, sitting down with a happy birthday sign, friendly and patient wait staff, to the owner checking in on us (even gave us some tips about Daytona 500 event). We started off with two shareable apps, green tomatoes with lobster meat (3 pieces but can be cut in half to serve 6 people), and the pork belly and biscuits (4 pieces). We also were given nice hot biscuits and butter for side. Every bite was delicious. Food was decent size. Two of us shared the southern fried chicken (4 pieces chicken, so we each had 2 pieces). We also had the sea bass and Atlantic salmon. Every first bite produced an unexpected yummmmm! out of me. For birthdays you get either a drink or dessert which we took advantage of. Would highly recommend and I wouldn't mind eating here again. Simple menu but it's all very tasty. read more

My hubby and mother-in-law picked this place out for Mother's Day brunch. It was truly a fantastic choice. They have a beautiful covered gazebo we were able to sit in (I will still only dine outside). We had a really pleasant surprise for my vegan future daughter-in-law when we learned that they have separate vegetarian/vegan menu! Not only were we all able to enjoy a special meal, so was she! I began my meal with fried green tomatoes, lobster and remoulade sauce. It was so tasty! The green tomatoes were fried just right with a nice crispy crust. And our son proclaimed the remoulade sauce to be fantastic! For my main, I had the chicken and waffles. OMG the fried chicken was out of this world. The crust was spiced just right and had so much yummy flavor. It was like a party in my mouth. The inside of the chicken was nice and juicy - not dried out at all! The mini waffles were hot fresh and fluffy. The butter melted nicely into the crisp waffle cups and bourbon maple syrup was the liquid candy topping that all adults would crave. The vegan options while not plentiful were declared top notch. She ordered the warm mushroom salad as her appetizer and the sautéed white beans as her main. Though the waitress said the salad was large enough to split - it really wasn't. It is possible to bring your own bottle of wine - we did. There is a $15 corkage fee. Service was a bit spotty and slow. It did take quite a while for our appetizers to arrive but everything was nicely paced after that. Also, though our waitress opened the bottle of champagne we brought she failed to refill empty glasses. However, since it was Mother's Day and very busy, I am willing to cut them slack on service. Free valet service was provided - though (PSA) please be sure to tip your valet. read more

Bumped up to 4 stars because the service was very good. Waitress and bartender tried really hard to make us happy which is the reason why I'll give it a second shot. The ambiance is awesome here- really unique setting and lots of hidden details on the walls. Food I thought wasn't so great- I made the mistake of ordering the grouper special and not only was it raw in the middle but it had bones in it. The salad was good and I thought the deviled eggs were average at best. Everything else looked amazing though- will definitely be back to try the chicken and other dishes. We had a blast at the absinthe bar- the bartender was so awesome. I showed her a few absinthe recipes and she made them for us! Will be back for sure but maybe skip the special. read more

The best food we've had since we've been here on vacation. The whole place is beautiful and historic. We were seated in the bar and got the best service from the bartender. She was very quick and attentive to our needs. She gave recommendations on the menu and the food was amazing. My husband got the fried chicken and collard greens and it was so delicious. I ordered the jambalaya and was also very pleased. The berry cobbler was to die for! They also gave my husband extra collard greens for no extra charge just because he loved them so much. I saw a small ad in our local newspaper for the Rose Villa Summer Supper. It was offered between 4 and 6 PM for $20 per person. We had never been there before so we thought this might be a great time to try it out. So, I went on OpenTable and realized they did not have information on the special offer. I made the reservation for 6 PM and called Rose Villa. The young man answering the phone sounded as though I had just woken him up. I inquired about the Summer Supper hours and he said they were 4 - 6 PM. When I asked if we'd be able to choose from the Summer Supper menu if we were seated at 6 PM and he assured me we would. I didn't have a great deal of confidence as he sounded unsure of himself. So, I called back after a while. A recording came on and stated that the Summer Supper hours were 4 - 8 PM. I called back again just to make certain I hadn't heard that wrong. Sure enough, 4 - 8 PM. So, we arrived at our reserved seating and as we were getting settled it became extremely obvious that the air conditioning was not working in the small room where we were to dine. In no time, we were all quite uncomfortable. We asked our server if she could adjust a small fan sitting near us so we'd get a breeze. It did nothing. Asked again, still nothing. Our server came to take our order and I asked if there was a different menu for the Summer Supper. She insisted that it ended at 5:30 PM. Oh, come on! How has this gone so wrong?!?! She ultimately checked with the manager and an "exception" was to be made. How special. Sweating. Rose Villa is very well known for its exceptional fried chicken. I had to try it. Meh. It's not what I would call the very best I've ever had. The sides were also mediocre. The mashed potatoes were thin and the gravy came already in the well. The second side was collard greens with ham. (Does anyone really love collard greens?) They held the consistency of wet sheets of paper. Not good at all. Sweating. I enjoyed the BlueberryLemon-tini. However, in the center of the martini glass was a 2-inch round ice cube. I would have preferred the martini that was displaced by the cube. Still sweating. The table was presented with a nice basket of 4 biscuits and butter. Those were good. One in our party had shrimp and grits and thought they were very good. The rest of us had the chicken. A really nice touch would have been to include a couple packages of wet-wipes for each order of chicken. Sweating profusely. Can't wait to get out of there. Can't breathe. Malfunctioning/Hardly functioning a/c may well be a hallmark of historic old buildings but it does not make for a pleasant dining experience. read more

Starting with the good: ambiance. This restaurant is in an old Victorian-style house with small rooms and lots of charm. It's clean and very nicely decorated. Our waitress was lovely, knowledgable and very accomplished. Tables are nicely laid out and there is no crowding. The biscuits were fantastic. Now for the not so good. There is valet parking but there is no signage to tell you where to go for the valet parking. The lot is blocked off at the street and you have to drive around the block to the back but it is not clear that you have to do that at all. The food, all three of our dishes, were barely warm. We waited a long time for the food so I expected it to be freshly cooked and hot. I don't know what happened but hot they were not. The dishes: bouillabaisse, shrimp and grits and fried chicken were good, though not fantastic. The restaurant was definitely understaffed because, although our waitress was good, service was VERY slow. Lastly, the table legs are so large and in an awkward position so as to leave you little room for your feet. I just couldn't get comfortable. I'm sad to leave a poor review and I really wanted to like this restaurant but it's just not that great especially at the price point of the dishes. read more
