Stopped through here with some friends before the dinner rush. Lights were dim (in a romantic kind of way) and it was pretty quiet. We were greeted immediately and got a table right away. Our waiter gave us some suggestions with the food and drink menus and just chatted with us a bit. He brought us some bread and it was the best bread I had in my life. It kinda gave me hawaiian bread with a parmesan crust. It was so good. All of us at the table told him to run another order back to us. The food was really delicious too. I had a petite filet - medium and my husband had the lamb chops. The sides are shareable so we all went with the Mac and cheese and asparagus. Honey that Mac and cheese stole the show! I went in with low expectations on it but was blown out the water. All of us couldn't stop talking about it even while eating the rest of the food! I'm really glad this place was across the street from our hotel. I'm so tempted to stop by before I leave for some bread and Mac to go. read more

This is my 4th visit to Chicago in the last 2 1/2 years and I've yet to dine at a proper steak house. Since we were staying at the Hilton on East Delaware, Rosebud Steakhouse was within steps of our hotel so we had no excuse not to indulge ourselves! Food: I went with the 18 oz Delmonico Rib Eye, daughter ordered the 8 oz filet mignon (since she knew she'd score some of my rib eye) and wife ordered the Shrimp Cocktail with Beets and Burrata salad as her meal. The steaks were wonderfully prepared, seared perfectly on the outside, tender and full of flavor. The Shrimp Cocktail was HUGE verging on the size of a small lobster tail. We also went with a side of mushrooms and onions that was so very rich with well caramelized onions that was the perfect companion for the steaks. With steaks this great, you don't need a lot of side dishes to distract from the meat! We finished off the meal with a chocolate mousse cake which must have been 8 or 9 inches tall and enough for the three of us to share with some left over. They also have a large wine list, great cocktails, and nice selection of fine spirits. Service: Great service from the time we stepped into the restaurant. Our server David took great of us during our meal and helped answer all of our questions regarding dish preparation as well as offering suggestions. Atmosphere: Classic steakhouse feel but not overly dark or woody if you know what I mean. The decor was comfortable, the atmosphere was relaxed and casual. Value: A fine steak house experience is not an inexpensive meal but as a treat on our vacation I thought Rosebud provided good value for the quality of the meal and the level of service. Of course our meal would have come in around $70 cheaper minus a few glasses of vino but what a fine steak without a full bodied red to go with it..am I right? Overall: With tons of Steakhouses in Chicago, I'm glad we choose Rosebud on this trip. Overall a good experience. But for the price, you expect great. That's pretty much my experience. Would I go back? Not sure. First the good ... food was fantastic. Everything we ordered was very tasty. Salads were good. Steaks were done correctly. Sides were delicious. No complaints. Service was okay. Our waiter was friendly. But the meal wasn't well paced. Too much time in between courses. Also the restaurant was very noisy. Hard to talk. Also the decor at this location was unremarkable in my opinion. I've been to other Chicago steakhouses I like more. And I should say I went to a different Rosebuds location during a previous trip to Chicago and had an absolutely incredible meal. Restaurant is loud and nearly impossible to enjoy with a bigger party. If I went back, I'd go with one other person and sit at the bar. My gnocchi's flavor was great but consistency was mushy. It would've been helpful if our server told us the chop salad, wedge salad, and dessert portions were extra large and should be shared. My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful evening dining at Rosebud. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary, and everyone and everything was done to enhance our meal and create a truly memorable experience. The ambiance is terrific--quiet enough to talk but bustling with servers and the background buzz of other dining patrons. The menu is varied and all items we ordered were excellent. The breads a fresh baked and our server immediately noticed us not partaking (due to our garlic allergy), he whisked it away and instantly plain freshly baked and buttered rolls appeared. We decided to share everything in order to enjoy a wider selection of menu items, and our server expertly handled the details. We ordered steak tartare and a shrimp cocktail; a wedge salad and a caprese salad; trio of filet mignon and 40-day aged strip steak. All was accompanied by a delicious French Bordeaux chosen to enhance the food selections. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. The restaurant kindly prepared a surprise desert: crème caramel with salted caramel ice cream. Our total was shockingly inexpensive considering the feast we enjoyed: $150.00-including the wine. We were staying at the Drake Hotel and thus were given a 10% discount on our meal. We would return to Rosebud again with pleasure. read more

We were staying at the Millennium hotel across the street, walk out of the hotel, we're on our way to the Magnificent Mile to try explore other restaurant. BFF saw the restaurant sign, he suggest to check it out. We walked in and been asked that have we reservation? We get the table less then a minute. Wow wow Ours service table very sweet and pleasant, he know the company I'm working for and likes the components. Our visit today was a culinary adventure! We had been to Chicago before but missed coming to Rosebud Steakhouse on 192 E Walton PL. The food we ate: Spinalis with Bordelaise Sauce (me), my wife had the Short Rib Bolognese. Amazing! The Spinalis steak was soft and very flavorful (did not need the sauce on the side!) the mash potatoe bed it came on and the red / green sweet roasted pepers tied everything in. My wife's Short Rib... she took the left overs! She reminded me the Hilton had a fridge and microwave (don't tell the chef!!!). I also had the Jalapeño Sweet Corn Chowder as a starter and it was also delicious... at this point need to also mention the dinner rolls (sooo good). Next, the restaurant was extremely clean, tables, silverware and glasses spotless (I am picky about this). Lastly but not least, our service team comprised of Ryan and Horacio worked seamless and provided a memorable afternoon of exceptional food, drinks, desserts (Key Lime Pie / Butter cake) and coffee. I'm a steak snob, and a picky son of a Bitch (and yes, my mom really is a Bitch). With this said, I get pissed when I drop a stack of sawbucks on a mediocre steak. If it's a great steak, I really don't care what the final bill is...well, within reason. Having tried most of the competition (e.g. Joes, Mortons, Kinzie, Gibsons, etc.), we, per the recommendation of a friend, opted for Rosebud. While the wives did their thing at the hotel bar, a buddy and I sat at the bar for some pre-dinner drinks. The bartenders were spot on, and made some healthy (strong) concoctions. No pretentious demeanor- just down to earth, friendly bartenders. When seated, our group of 5 were all over the map. For apps, we did oysters, scallops, and a few salads. The scallops seemed to be the winner, but not as good as Bernard's in Tyler, Texas (Yes, Google Bernard's; they really do have the best scallops in the country.) As far as the steaks, all of us had Kool Aid grins on our portly faces. From the NY Strip, to the filets, all were excellent. Rosebud serves prime beef, by the way; none of that choice crap, that some restaurants pawn off on you. Great service (at the bar, and dining room), great ambience, and damn good steaks. Writing this as it comes. The restaurant was able to take me on a walk up at 6:00. Several groups were here but it's early yet. COVID may have scant benefits but fewer people is one. Nice table at the front. The maitre d asked face in or face out - great question for one person btw - as I'm here solo due to my wife being too site-seeing exhausted to go out, I chose face in. Beautiful room here at Rosebud, plus window looks to the street and the Hilton Hotel service garage door - but the room is lovely. Good choice facing in. Once seated I asked for the wine list. Not good. As a Californian I'm accustomed to good wines and while I don't require a massive selection, I do require some seriously good cabs at minimum for a steak house but it wasn't there so I pivoted into an Italian blend which has proven satisfactory. The bread came in a cute metal holder for two roles - looks and tastes like challah drizzled with olive oil and garlic . Hmmmm... Ordered the house salad, KC dry aged strip, brussel sprouts and baked potato - dessert is to go back to the room and my resting wife. Call me old fashioned but A guy out alone, has to bring something home... Was told the baked potato would take 45 minutes. Never heard of waiting to bake a potato until ordered but let's give them the benefit of the doubt due to COVID and ordered mashed instead. House salad arrived quickly but swimming in Italian dressing. Fresh so not terrible, but I definitely prefer dryer. Croutons should not be soft from dressing. Note to self, ask for dressing on the side. Steak arrived. The strip stands at under an inch in thickness - a little surprising - and has a charred finish. There's a mesquite-like flavor. Definitely flame cooked, a little salty though and the mesquite is a little overpowering. It is how I asked it be cooked however - as I like: dark red in the center but not cool - a good medium rare. Serious cudos for that. That's not a little deal, really - after all, is there anything more important at a steak house than proper delivery of cooked-ness? The more expensive the steak house, the more they want you to eat it raw. Worked for my dad - he'd say he liked it "barely moving" - a gross generational humor thing - but not for me. I like it medium rare and that's not cool in the center by my definition. Sorry I digress... the mashed potatoes are tasty and are lumpy as real mashed potatoes should be. Definitely added and second helping larger than the first. There's plenty and delicious. The brussel sprouts are plentiful as well - enough to feed an army but are a little on the oily side - could be the bacon. Wished I like brussel sprouts more. Maybe my wife will back at the hotel. That said they're definitely tasty. Again maybe just a little wet. In the end the service was very attentive but I would not go as far as to say amazing - not meal defining anyway as an amazing restaurant can be. To be fair though, few consistently are and I can't really criticize Rosebud for that. The service was solid. Their attention to the customer has been very good. In conclusion I'd say the food is satisfying but nothing you'd write home raving about. But not every meal is, is it? So would I come again? Probably not if I'm in charge though it's a cool space that I could see making my own with a little personal preferences shared with the waiter and chef. Then it might end up the bestie we're always looking for. The people here are cool, I liked them. I have to say though, that there are too many other steak houses I've yet to try... That said, if someone said, "Hey, let's meet at Rosebud for drinks and a steak!" I'd say unequivocally, "Sure, steaks there are cooked to perfection! - and the service is very good too." read more

Where do I begin we just got into town less than an hour ago, the restaurant was referred to us by Gary at our hotel. There was no need for us to dress up which helped because after traveling all you want to do is relax and eat. I got a lemon drop that was not on the menu by the way and fast seating for this time of night on a Friday which is even better. We got a seat right at the window our server is awesome and made suggestion on our meal The bacon wrapped scallops is delicious so good, we got 4 pieces it has a little sweet and sour taste with a little spice that's delicious so happy with this appetizer selection The lobster bisque was delicious as well with the lobster pieces in the middle made this worth it as well, I'm not sure we will have room for dinner after all of this Also the music selection is so good while you enjoy dinner gets you in the mood to continue the party after mentioned my dinner here it's a must read more

the perfect place for our dinner on our first night in Chicago. This place was just down the way from the Drake Hotel where we were staying so it was very convenient. It's your typical nice, classy, high end steakhouse. what more do you expect from a place like this? they serve high quality foods that come with a nice little price tag. the dim lighting sets the mood for a perfect dinner date. exceptional food along with exceptional service. the wait-staff is very knowledgeable and can tell you just about anything regarding the menu. luckily we came as a fairly large group so i was able to taste and sample a little bit of everything. from the steak to the pasta to the shrimp appetizers to the sauteed mushrooms. everything was really good, i cant complain. would i come back?.. most definitely. if i were to ever come back to chicago i sure would. read more

Went to dinner with my wife we had a 6:15 reservation. Started with a nice bottle of wine and meatballs to start. Meatballs we just mediocre and a bit dry. the wine was good but the sever had absolutely no idea how to pour. Every time he would refill the glass there would be wine all over the table. Extremely disappointing when you ordered $100 bottle of wine.For the main course my wife had the fish and it was pretty good. I had the bone in ribeye, which tasted dry very little flavor and what I could taste almost tasted like lighter fluid. For the dessert we order a piece of carrot cake and a piece of butter cake. Granted, we got them to go when we got back to our hotel room. They were absolutely horrible! Needless to say for two people with a bill of $360 I was extremely disappointed. There are way better steakhouses in the city. This was the first and last time we will ever eat at this particular restaurant. please note I did say something to the waiter regarding the flavor of the steak. He remarked in a way that was insulting and almost implied that I didn't know what good food taste like. Did culinary school in Paris and studied under chefs for over 10 years. I know what a piece of good beef should taste like . He himself may need to take a course on what properly prepared meat should be. Let's start from the beginning...The environment was great and the service was on point. the Martini was spot on. It was perfectly made and a welcome ending to a windy day. The appetizer I ordered was the roasted beet salad. That was a disappointment. It was clearly not roasted and instead of goat cheese or feta there was Gorgonzola which was tasteless. Also, the portion was huge. The beets slices were extremely thick and it was overall just not pleasing or what I expected. I ordered the petite filet which was awesome. It was probably the best steak that I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly, lightly salted and tender. The flavor was impeccable. The side that I ordered with the steak was the mushrooms and onions. The presentation lacked. It was an oversized bowl of piled on mushrooms. The appearance of which was not pleasing in the least but they were tasty and truly a complement to the steak. Overall, the Rosebud did not disappoint but there is room for some improvement with portion size and presentation specifically. I will come back and I will recommend the Rosebud to family and friends. For my next visit I will not however choose the beet salad and perhaps I will go with a different side. read more

This was supposed to be a top-notch steak house so I expected top-notch service. Let me preface by saying the place was busy but not so busy that you can listen to your customers. Our server greeted us warmly and ended our stay with a nice goodbye - so he gets points for that - but everything in-between was probably the most shocking service I've ever had. Maybe in Chicago, they do it differently but I've worked in the hospitality business enough to know that customer service should equate across the regions - but I guess this place never got that memo. Let's list just a few of the things that happened... This was a 10-top, so I get that a larger table is a different dynamic than a 2-top, however, the server was more interested in getting the orders in his own timing instead of taking time to answer questions. He was too hurried. After taking mine, my husband's, and my son's order I lifted my hand to tell him that we three would be on one ticket - he ignored me. I verbalized it by saying, "Excuse me, we'll be on one ticket." He didn't even look at me but said out of the side of his mouth (very rudely I might add), "yeah, I'll get to that later I need to get this order all in." UM - NO. This is part of the order and when someone is paying for a meal - have the decency to spare five seconds to acknowledge them versus brushing them off and acting like they don't matter. One of us ordered a 1/2 order of asparagus because we weren't very hungry for a full order and didn't want to pay for the food we couldn't eat. He told us, "No, I'll put in a whole order for you bc someone else can help you eat it." DUDE! He's racking up the ticket - again making it all about him and telling us that our needs didn't matter. Also, my son and I ordered a fresh hand-squeezed lemonade. I'm smart enough to know that hand-squeezed means made by hand so I know it's not a simple refill. Let's say that first. Once our glasses were empty - they sat that way for over 45 minutes. All the while he's refilling all the wine and liquor as soon as my relatives could even ask for one, so it's not like he wasn't able to take care of ours. It's just that lemonade will not add a chunk of money onto the ticket. I guarantee if I'd had wine he'd have tried to top it off 5 times over. I finally tracked him down to ask for a refill and his words were - "That's not JUST a refill, honey, it's hand squeezed." He was referring that he couldn't just waltz to the bar and pour me another. Was that necessary? Shouldn't good service dictate that someone responds with - sure, I'll get you one as soon as they can make it? Finally, when the bill came - it was ALL ON ONE TICKET! When more than three of us asked him to split it up at the beginning when he was too busy taking orders to listen. We tried waving him down to ask to split it up but he walked by us three times without looking. Finally, my husband stood up with the bill in hand and walked toward him to get his attention and the guy turned his back on my husband to deliver another bill. He walked by my husband 4 separate times when he knew my husband was standing and expectantly waiting on him. Edward the server brushed by him each time without acknowledging him and trust me when I say the way my husband was trying to get his attention was hard to miss. When my husband FINALLY got him to stop to say we needed the bill split up. The response from our server?? "Oh, I didn't know because you never said anything." To top it off, he added a meal from our table that wasn't part of my ticket. I was happy to pay for another family members meal but this just goes to show how inept his focus or service was. OH MY GOSH - do not go eat here. They could care less about you - only your money and that is NO way to do business. And - here it is almost a week later and I can't even remember what my food tasted like. Good service lets food take the spotlight and sadly that was not part of this high dollar establishment. For as much money as you pay to eat here, they should cater to the customers needs. The positives - it was my mother-in-law's birthday so they did bring her a cake which we all split. That was nice. This location has had good reviews recently and we felt compelled to try it since we live in the area. The food is very good, but we didn't like the atmosphere or the service. Most of the tables for two are really small and packed in around tables for large groups. Our server was very blunt and dismissive. He asked us if we wanted anything else with our dinner and acted very put off when we asked for a sauce. He also greeted us and asked us if we wanted drinks to start while clearing plates from another table about eight feet away. I'd estimate that 30-40% of the servers do not wear masks. They let the masks fall down around their necks and don't make any attempt to bring them back up. You will find a much better experience at this price point at other restaurants in Chicago. read more
