Rosebud Steakhouse is nestled right in the heart of Streeterville, accessible by foot from Michigan Avenue shoppers and visitors alike. The good part about the restaurant Is that the pricepoint of the menu items has the tendency to turn even the hungriest of tourists away! Which is a good thing! It keeps the wait time shorter and the time from when you place your order, to the time your order reaches your table, low. Upon entry you are greeted by well spoken and dressed hostesses. They offer you complimentary coat check, at which point they then escort you to your table. I absolutely LOVE the décor here. It reminds me of the kind of restaurant the Italian mob would dine at: ultra plush seating, crisp table linens, fine silverware and plating, top quality glassware, great music playing in the background, dimly lit...its just extremely fancy and you feel important just walking into this place. The service was absolutely impeccable here. Even the servers that were not specifically assigned to my table, spoke to me, complimented my attire and jewelry, and asked if I needed anything or if everything tasted okay. Which leads me to the actual review of the food! A++++++++++++++++!!! To start I had the bacon wrapped scallops with fresh mango topping. The scallops were cooked perfectly, naturally sweet and juicy on their own. But paired with the crunchy yet chewy maplely bacon and the slightly bitter mango on top, this provided for the ultimate foodgasm. My only complaint is that I wanted just one more after I had downed them all. The pasta here is housemade and absolutely delicious! This Bolognese was classically prepared and refined; the flavors were fantastic. The beef was cooked just right, the pasta was chewy but not soggy, and the portion size was abundant! The sauce provided just the right amount of liquid to the pasta. The coconut cake was probably the biggest piece of cake Ive ever had in my life and it. was. A. +. ma. zing! Melt in your mouth, finger licking GOOD! I ate half at the restaurant and forced myself to box the other half so that I could reenact that foodgasm at home. Had dinner this week with customers and the service was terrible. First the waiter cancelled one of the four meals and he served 3 of the 4 with a 10 min wait for the fourth. The whitefish was smelly and full of bones. Steaks were ok but certainly not top notch. Suggest rosebud stay on Taylor and stick with pasta. Lastly some guy asked us to move our chairs so he could access the wine bins. Pretty bad as it happened twice. This place not good read more

Simply horrible!!! On an early Monday evening with literally one other table seated, the chef somehow managed to present to me a well done steak, originally requested to be medium. My friend ordered a ribeye, medium, and was presented with a rare piece of beef chuck! The waiter mentioned the business no longer being carried under the "Rosebud" brand, yet purchased by the family of the previously known "Rosebud Steakhouse." My advice is to run far, very very far!! This place is fantastic. Hands down some of the best customer service I've ever received. When you walk in it seems like a traditional, dark, steakhouse. You're greeted by super friendly hostesses......... and then you hear house music playing, and you realize the atmosphere is amazing. The servers are knowledgeable and professional. When the food came things just kept getting better. The bacon wrapped scallops were amazing and the filet was super clean, with the perfect ratio of a charred exterior and pink interior; although I added butter and salt but that's my personal preference. The pistachio gelato was fantastic and the prices aren't too outrageous for a Chicago steakhouse. I WILL visit again Next time I'm on town. As for today, I'm going to order a burger for lunch. Came here for Christmas Day dinner 2018. We had a reservation for 7:30pm, but upon arrival the hostess stand seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, although the restaurant didn't appear to be busy enough to warrant the wait. We were finally sat in a section along the back wall with two other two-tops. The two-top furthest from us were clearly friends of the staff, as the waiter, manager, and buss staff were stopping by to shake hands and laugh about quite frequently with them, and I have to say initially we felt pretty ignored. The waiter finally came and took our drink orders after about 10-15 minutes of waiting with no greeting (the busser was prompt with the water and bread, however). After about another 20 minutes, the waiter came back to take our orders. I ordered the clam linguine, my dad the prime rib. After all the waiting for him to even drop by, we were sorry to hear that they were out of the prime rib. We asked for a few more minutes to think of something new. After about another 10-15 minutes, he came back and my dad ordered another steak, and the waiter let me know 'I already put in for your linguine.' Cool. Then about ANOTHER 10 minutes later he comes back and lets me know that they are also out of linguine. In my eyes, the whole thing could have been avoided with a simple early drop by..."hi, my name is ____ these are our specials, we are out of ______." I am a huge fan of Rosebud's restaurants, and the food was fine, as it always is. More than accommodating from the start and Chris made the experience for my girlfriends birthday an absolute home run, for the whole family. Rosebud basically does everything well, and their Steakhouse is no exception. This is one of the better steak joints for locals in the city. I'd say top 5 actually. You don't get too many tourists (Ruth Chris), and you don't get the obnoxious see and be seen crowd (i.e. Gibson's) that someplaces have. Don't be surprised though if you run into a local celebrity trying to have a nice quiet evening dining. Food: My steak on Friday was cooked to perfection, and had a small dollop of butter on top. You want it with peppercorns though, you got it. You want it crusted with blue cheese, you got it. Plenty of options if you need a little shake up. The sides are huge as is the case with most steak joints these days, so don't get more than one for every two people. I always start with the lettuce wedge with blue cheese and bacon. My wife usually orders their "Brick Chicken". They must season it with crack, because its the only chicken that makes me want to order it instead of steak. If you come for lunch, they have a fantastic burger. Definitely Top 10 in the city. Service: The waiters are very friendly. Expect the manager will come by and say hello. If something isn't to your liking, let them know and they'll replace it. Come a few times and they will remember your name. Wine List: They have an excellent selection of wine. It must be because of the Rosebud name. Prices are reasonable and they have a good mix of European and American. Value: I think you may get the best value for the amount of food you get at any steakhouse in the city. The 18 oz. NY Strip is enough for two, and costs less than several other places that serve 16 oz strips. You're going to drop a lot of money here, so be forewarned. Rosebud Steakhouse feels like a throwback restaurant. A guy opens the door for you. The waiters wear tuxes. The menus are brief, but adhered to a heavy board as if to say, "Look, you're here for steak and we all know it. And if you can't lift this menu, just get the hell out." I ordered the New York strip steak. My date ordered the brick chicken. We also ordered the truffle and parmesan tater tots. The steak was okay, but the tater tots were completely amazing. Today, I find myself craving more of the $8.50 tots, while feeling blasé about the $39.95 steak. Wha? A nice thing about the tater tots is that you get a ton of them, so there would be enough for maybe three people in the one order. The atmosphere is odd. Most everything is shrouded in dark wood, like a set from "The Godfather." It was crowded and bustling on a Tuesday night. An older crowd. There were plasma TVs showing a basketball game, but no one seemed to be looking at them. (They're placed so high that you would have to make a deliberate head adjustment to see them.) And very faintly, above the dull roar of the diners, I could hear pop music playing. Neither the TVs nor the music seem to fit the rest of the vibe of the restaurant. Are you trying to be old school cool or an upscale sports bar or what? Our total bill at the end of the night was around $100 (before tip). On the plus side, it was a ton of food. But we only had one glass of wine each. And other than the tater tots, I wasn't blown away. Didn't ask my date how she liked her chicken, but she did take it home with her. We enjoyed a work dinner tonight at Rosebud while staying at the Hilton Mag Mile (right across the street). The food was between a four and five star but the overall experience earns four stars when compared to other similar steak houses. I had a trio of beef medallions covered with a charred crab cake and soaking in a balsamic reduction. It was very rich and flavorful and I enjoyed it. My only complaint was that the first medallion I cut into was a little tough to eat and I didn't think to abandon it for the other two until I was quite full. After cutting into the other two later I wished I had started there as they were perfectly soft and juicy. For appetizers my favorite was the wedge salad they are famous for (because the buttermilk dressing was perfectly creamy and not overpowering with blue cheese). I was marginally impressed with the jalapeño hash browns (a little too crispy and dry), the cauliflower au gratin (delish but plain) and the brussel sprouts (the best of the three). I really enjoyed the frozen slush served with the oyster assortment, as well as the heirloom tomato salad, although I would have liked more tomatoes in it. For dessert the berries and cream were the standout. The server was a little sassy (maybe his persona on purpose) and embarrassed one of our dining partners a tad. My boyfriend took me here for my bday on 12/12/15. He had made reservations for 7pm. We found meter parking right up the street for a reasonable price. We walked in and the coat check is a rack that is right in front of the hostess stand, which was a confined area to begin with and didn't leave much security for your coat. We went to the bar and had a drink while we waited to be sat, the bar was beautifully crafted and the bartenders were on point. We waited for about 15 mins after the time of our reservation. The restaurant was busy and for the price of food, I'd say cramped. We were sat and in a high traffic area, it was slightly distracting to our intimate evening. It took a while for our server to greet us and it took a while to receive the drinks we ordered. Once our appetizers came to the table, the bacon wrapped scallops and oysters Rockefeller, the experience went more smoothly. The scallops were good, though I found it unnecessary to top them with bbq sauce, they were good enough without masking the flavor with a condiment. The oysters were good, not the best I have had. I ordered the rack of lamb and my boyfriend ordered the bone in filet. For our sides we shared the brussel sprouts and the smashed potatoes. We were both very happy with our choices and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Since it was my bday, I was surprised with a piece of chocolate cake, that was delicious. We were overall satisfied and would come back again. I liked that's they didn't make us feel like they were rushing us out the door. They let us take our time and savor the meal and experience. Took my nephew and his girlfriend here last night. We were seated promptly and after a short wait were waited on and got our food promptly. Our server was helpful to encourage us to split a Caesar salad among the three of us. Mira and I both had a filet and split the Mac and Cheese. Ordered a bottle of wine, then served an assortment of breads and butter (the pretzel bread was my favorite). We started off with the iceberg salad - the portions were huge! I ate at this restaurant last week while I was staying at the hotel across the street. I ordered soup which was great and fillet mignon, medium rare. It came well done, so I sent it back and requested medium rare again. They were very pleasant and proceeded to bring me a raw steak. They also knew it was my birthday, and I was dining alone. Happy birthday to me. $75.00 for a bowl of soup. When the waiter brought my credit card receipt back he said "we hope to see you again" to which I said "you most certainly won't see me back, ordering two steaks and neither one is edible--I won't be back". I suppose I could have demanded they take it off my bill but who wants to send two steaks back after this on his birthday. Shameful. read more

We were seated quickly for our 7pm reservation. The place was PACKED, we got a great table by the bar and got started. We were greeted by Bobby, our server, who is super old school Italian and really added to our experience. The manager (I assumed) came by a few times to wish us a Happy Anniversary too, and we chatted for a bit, nice guy. We ordered bacon wrapped scallops, and mini burgers. I had recommendations on both of them and they were to die for. The bacon was thick and meaty and really held onto the scallop which was like butter. The mini burgers were delish although we skipped the buns to save room for dinner; a few apps and drinks would've been more than enough for a quick dinner - note to self. We ordered and split the bone-in ribeye, which was cooked to a perfect medium, seared real good and oh so juicy, they serve it with bone/marrow. I'm not a fan of marrow, but my dogs will be! We chose a few sides since we were splitting the meat - sauteed broccoli, lobster mac n cheese, and the popular tater tots. Now...on the menu for Sat specials were "Taylor Tots" which I thought were the same, but are not I learned later. THOSE are tossed with peppers and beef gravy and something else but he lost me at "tossed in gravy" - C'MON! The truffle and parmesan tots were awesome though, and there were literally like 40 to an order, maybe more, too many for two people I can tell you that! The mac n cheese was really rich and creamy with HUGE chunks of lobster and campanelle noodles, and the broccoli sauteed with garlic and OO was perfect. I ate a lot of broccoli since they give you like an entire head, and I was trying to feel less guilty. I can honestly say this was one of the best meals I've ever had in Chicago. A few coworkers and I came here for dinner after a long day of work. We made a reservation to be safe but when we got there it wasn't crazy busy (it later on ended up getting really busy) .. I had an old fashion (I'm front Wisconsin so I'm picky about my old fashions) it wasn't bad! The seared scallops were so flavorful and done perfectly. I ended my meal with a tiramisu which was largest enough to feed an army! I had a five star experience and would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area! read more

WOW!!! Okay, NO ONE does service like these guys. First of all, all waiters are wearing top notch tuxedos. Full-on tuxes!!! No joke. However, it's not a stuffy place. They roll out the red carpet for you whether your dressed up or dressed down. We know this because we came on two different nights wearing different types of clothing and still got the grade A treatment. The second thing I loved was the food. Main entrees were incredible, but I have to say my absolute favorite is their desserts. Oh God, it was the best freakin' cake I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Seriously, it was better than my wedding cake that we had just a little over a month ago. Simply the best!!!! So thank you Rosebud Steakhouse. And thank you Don the manager that greeted us the first night. Sorry, a different manager greeted us the second night but I never caught his name. You guys know how to make a night out on the town very special. The only thing missing was some live music. That would made everything just as fantastic as little Italy in Boston. I normally frequent this steakhouse in Chicago. Glen and drove one hour out of our way one time while we were driving across the country. I took my daughter there for lunch and was so disappointed. I was told there's a new owner and chef. I understand the need for change, but it was horrible. The Mac and cheese had watery sauce and was almost in cooked. We came without a reservation and were seated after a 20 minute wait at the bar- not bad at all. Especially when we're sipping chocolate martinis and some nice glasses of Malbec. All the dishes were presented nicely-- we started out with a cold seafood platter-- with raw oysters, huge prawns, and King Crab legs-- a feast! We had variations of the steak and seafood, along with several side dishes that were very complementary. I think the waiter was trying to upsell us on everything since he knew we were travelling on business expense accounts. I adore this restaurant. I would probably give it more of a 4.5, but felt that 4 was closer to the truth than 5. It's totally an old-school, boy's-club kind of steak house. I totally see it as the kind of place in which dinner business meetings would take place or my dad and his friends would go for a good steak. The place has a good atmosphere. It can get a little noisy, but I think that's totally fine and suits the place. Every time I've been there, there has been at least one big table with a party of 6-8 people, and this seems the norm. The food is great. The steak is expensive, but tasty. The sides are pretty family-style, which is nice. It can be difficult to choose what you want off of the list of sides because they sound so good (the tater tots are surprisingly awesome). I went with my parents a couple of times and each time, we were all very happy with our meals. But I wouldn't discount this place for a date. (Even a not super expensive date). The burger is AMAZING! Love it. It comes with fries and is only $12 (I believe), which is really not that expensive for a burger, especially because this one was so good. The caesar salad is also great! It seems overpriced on the menu because it's $12 or $14, but it's HUGE. It is absolutely capable of being split between 3 people (which is what I did with my mom and sister). I would go back here for a date, split the caesar and get a burger and it wouldn't be expensive at all. We visited Rosebud on a Saturday around 6:30 PM. The dining room was moderately full. We were seated immediately after arriving and were welcomed by a very nice waiter and bread basket. From the moment we sat down, the service was impeccable. The waiter and busboy were always around willing to answer questions and clean up any empty dishes. Our waiter did an excellent job explaining all the dishes and specials of the day. He really knew his stuff! Over all, the food was very good. We ordered the crispy calamari and chopped salad to start. Both were very tasty and were great as a light appetizers. For the main course, we tried the hamburger and clam chowder soup which were also both very good. After dinner, we were too full to try dessert, but had our eye on the banana cream pie. This used to be a favorite. They changed hands as I understand and the poor staff. There is a man at the front who is quite rude and gruff and obtuse. Some of my old friends (staff) are there but not happy. The food has deteriorated under the new management and some of the new staff are clueless. My friends and I always referred to this place as "Secret Rosebud" because it was almost club like to our neighborhood. This always had a relaxed atmosphere but with the new guy at the front he tries to intimidate staff and customers alike. On a recent visit to the bar and then asking for a table the mgr became agitated and wanted me to restrict my visit to 45 minutes to dine in a empty restaurant. Such great service and terrific food. I think I get sliders or steak every other week. The steak is always prepared perfectly, sans any extra sauces. They even have truffle tater tots! The only thing to watch out for is the extra large chocolate cake slice. ;) read more
