Well folks, I always hate leaving a bad review however Gibsons Italia earned this 2 star rating. I worked hard to do all I could to make this a good experience for my party of 9 - anything but a relaxing dinner and enjoyable food - especially for the price. First the table - they attempted to place us in the corner by the kitchen and sever traffic area. - we asked kindly to move which they kindly accommodated. Wine. - I had to order 3 different times only to be told they were out of the selection- for what felt like 10 minutes in between bottles. When the sommelier finally recommended a bottle they had stock of, - it was the wine I ordered in the beginning- 1. Food. - ordered for the table- meatballs, Mozzarella/melon and prosciutto cesar, octopus and beats. - meatballs cold, octopus never arrived. Cesar poorly dressed - focaccia bread hard as a rock. Next course - pasta. Cacio was all butter - little flavor. Rigatoni vodka was fire however. Steaks. - bone in filets- 3 arrived cold in the center and raw. - hen of the woods mushrooms were excellent, - by this time I was done eating out of frustration The manager did buy us a ton of desserts. Another amazing and memorable dinner at Gibsons Italia, this time celebrating our anniversary. Service and wait staff was unparalleled and did everything to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Very attentive and friendly people who go the extra mile to make this a cut above a normal restaurant experience. The meal was another star. Ribeye cut was a must order. The char and finishing salt made this one of the best steaks in the city, even rivaling the lauded Bavette's. The Brussels sprouts are a must order. Probably best I've ever had. We came in without a reservation on Thursday night last week with three young kids and all the chaos that comes with that, and Amanda, the manager, was incredible. Special place in my heart. I got married here and it was absolutely perfect. Liz and Dennis were amazing to coordinate with, the venue itself is GORGEOUS for a micro wedding (we had about 40 people). During our wedding, Dennis was extremely attentive and it was very appreciated. He was very kind and checked in on what we wanted without being overbearing. The upstairs venue fully opens up to become an outdoor rooftop venue (the roof retracts and the balconies all open) so it's amazing for an indoor/outdoor option depending on the weather. So we finally decided to head to Gibsons Italia. We had heard so many good things from so many people but for some reason didn't get to visit so far. First impressions when we walked in. Very courteous staff and we were seated at the best seat in the house - overlooking the river! From the get-go we knew we wanted the chicago cut so we planned to get the charred broccolini salad and the charred artichoke to try the veggie options. Paired all of that with a rose for me and my hubby got the limoncello spritz. The charred artichoke was the first thing that arrived, with the lemon and capers aioli. It was easily the best artichoke dish I've had. Crispy, creamy goodness. The broccolini salad was fresh and herby and had the perfect crunch with the sliced apples. The rose and spritz balanced the apps perfectly. Finally came the chicago cut, a beautiful, well marbled cut of ribeye which was everything we thought it would be. Once in the restaurant we had the "Italian meatballs " for starters , I give them a solid 8/10. The ricotta wasn't overpowering , so I appreciate that. The Caesar salad was yummy & I had one of the best steaks I've ever had here . First time trying a bone in filet mignon 12 oz and I would go back solely for this. You've gotta add this to your list if you're looking for an elevated meal. Every single dish we had was absolutely delicious in such different ways. We started with the charred octopus which was served beautifully and accompanied with a variety of delicious aioli's. The texture was amazing, and the presentation was stunning. Unfortunately, I only took a photo after the server cut the octopus. For entrees, I went with the 7 Year Aged Aquarella Risotto served with fresh scallops and leeks. This dish was so silky and absolutely swimming in a creamy, buttered sauce. The scallops were clean and cooked nicely. I would've loved to see something crunchy or fresh atop this dish to really pull the dish together. But no complaints overall, and I cleared the whole thing. We also ordered the spicy rigatoni pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly au dente. I'm honestly not a fan of pasta, and rarely find a dish that stands out amongst others, but this was high up on my list. It was a great balance of sauce, cheese, crispy topping, and overall probably our favorite dish of the night. I'd highly recommend it as someone who usually doesn't favor pasta at dinner. My boyfriend ordered a steak as well (not sure the cut - see image). We are big steak people, and he claims this is one of his top steaks from a restaurant. We also had a little birthday dessert, which I don't see on the menu, but the ice cream (I think it was banana gelato) was insane!!! I would highly recommend trying the actual banana gelato on the dessert menu if you go. We didn't dive into the cocktail menu. I stuck to pinot grigio so no big review there! Had a 6pm reservation to celebrate my fathers 60th birthday, they were kind enough to give us a window table with an amazing view on the water. We had a plethora of dishes from apps to entrees and desserts. The big eye Crudo was a 7.5/10 overall flavor was good, and the endive leave was a great crunch. The Garlic Focaccia Bread was a 4/10 the bread itself was good, but barely hinted garlic and where it came in a beautiful presentation of smoke and glass the Smokey flavor definitely overpowered the palate. The Parmesan Fonduta was the best part of this dish. The Market Oysters from Washington was a 8/10 they were cleaned well and not overly salty or briny. The Mignonette was the perfect acidity balance. The beef tartare was a 7.5/10 - the mustard seeds had great balance with the onions, and the bread toasted well. The crispy artichoke was only a 5/10 as the fried oil toon the star of the show. I1 I was a bit taking back, but the heart was overall the best part. The 7-YEAR AGED ACQUERELLO RISOTTO was a 8/10 the scallops were cooked perfectly with a nice sear, and tender. The risotto came in at a 6.5/10. Where it was cooked perfectly the leeks and Parmesan sauce wasn't the best. The branzino was a 9/10 cooked perfectly, flavorful and moist. It did seem deboned, although I didn't ask to confirm. The Australian Ribeye was a 8.5/10 with great marbling sear and flavor. The Chicago cut was a 9/10 I feel it had a bit better taste than the ribeye. The cut had a more consistent sear and overall deeper flavor profile. CACIO E PEPE was good, not overly peppered and had the perfect amount of cheese without being too thick in texture. Spicy Rigatoni came in at a 8/10 too. The pasta was definitely cooked perfectly al dente but the sauce wasn't very spicy and a bit on the more dry side. Had our last meal of 2025 at Gibson Italia. We had an early reservation (4:00pm) but the restaurant was already buzzing and the vibe was celebratory. Service was very, very good. A little slow with 3rd floor check in as 4 other groups were also waiting but not a problem. My partner and I don't really eat the same stuff so I was a bit anxious because everything looked so delicious I wanted to try all sorts of things, alas we figured it out. Our server was perfect. Available but not too available. Water service, bus service all on it. It wasn't overly noisy and could easily hold a conversation. We ordered as follows Arancini Garlic Focaccia w/the Parmesan fondue and added the whipped ricotta. Spicy Vodka Rigatoni Tomahawk Whipped/puréed potato's We skipped dessert. It was early and had a long night ahead of us, not to mention we were stuffed. Arancini Cacio de Pepe came first and was sumptuous. The sauce divine and would have been happy to have those 3 beautiful rice balls floating in it. My partner described it as,"oh yeah, yeah, mm-hmm" so no further explanation needed. The Garlic Focaccia w/fondue and ricotta well again, "yes, yep, oh yeah". Perfect. Light and airy inside, salty crust outside. Thank you, more please. If cheese and dipping is your thing go for both accoutrements with the bread. It's just a hint of garlic so not overpowering. Spicy Rigatoni was nice. Pasta cooked al dente and in bite size pieces. Not overly sauced or spicy but enough to break the richness of other choices. This would not have been my choice. I would have done the Risotto or a different pasta but my partner is a sucker for vodka sauce and it was his choice. No complaints. The Tomahawk with an onion and roasted garlic was beyond heaven. We ordered it medium (I would have chosen medium rare but in the spirit of comprise we went with medium) and honestly it was perfectly cooked and the extra degree was not even noticeable. We literally barefisted the garlic and squeezed it over the exquisitely deboned and sliced steak. "Oh my God" came streaming out of my mouth and I really wanted to pound the table but, well, I do have some self control. The whipped potato's were a nice compliment and very good but went almost untouched. Again, I might have chosen a second pasta instead but to be clear it wasn't needed. The Tomahawk was the main star and did not need any support. We also ordered a duo of sauce but honestly the steak did not needed anything else. The sauces were a nice to have just in case.... Two of us feasted like the king and queen we are (lol-or pretend to be a couple times a year) and then went on with the night. I did not consider it expensive and we spent $288 for the meal and added $100 for the tip, NYE and all. I did have a glass of champagne to start but we felt very satisfied and not regretful of our meal or the price. We were seated around 7pm and could see the beautiful skyline along the river while the sun began to set. The place was full and quite loud, but the upscale ambiance made our experience better. We started with the Foccacia bread since it is her favorite! The warm pillowy texture paired perfectly with the creamy whipped ricotta balanced by the acidity from the balsamic. For our mains I got the Chicago Cut Ribeye while she had the Squid Ink Seafood Linguine. We also shared a side of the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and some Fresh Cut French Fries. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a nice crust on the outside. I really enjoyed how they also provided an entire head of roasted garlic which I used to spread on top of the incredibly juicy and tender steak to further enhance the flavor. The Squid Ink Pasta was loaded with different seafood and the noodles had a nice bouncy texture. The brussels sprouts were so crispy and the flavors from the prosciutto, chilis, and truffle bourbon maple glaze was out of this world! The fries were so fluffy on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside which was perfect! I appreciate the staff giving her a complimentary birthday dessert which was a slice of chocolate mousse cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Came here last week for my friend's birthday. Wanted to have a nice lunch with her and I've heard good things about this place. Well, it exceeded my expectations! The view was amazing! We shared the meatballs, the risotto with scallops, filet, and potatoes. The food was top tier but what really stood out was the service. Our waiter, Elijah, was helpful and attentive and A plus plus in our book. I'll definitely be back!!! read more
