On top of that, her prices were extremely reasonable, especially for being located in Waikīkī. I was visiting and needed a local salon to do a hair updo for a photoshoot. I saw RoseMarys's as an option and decided to give her a call 2 weeks out to see if she had availability Saturday morning. Luckily there was a spot 8am! Morning of Saturday, RoseMary was there bright and early and ready to see what I had in mind. I showed her a few inspo pictures but also was open to her taking the lead on her creative side when it came to braids and placement of hair. The end result was perfect - the plumeria she added as a finishing touch to the updo really made it extra special and the volume made it look like I had more hair! Her years of experience and personable spirit truly made me feel welcome and loved how my hair turned out. The next day at church I got a few compliments on my hair as well! Felt like a lady haha The salon itself is within the parking garage. Follow the signs from the street and walk near the entrance of the garage to which you'll find the salon in the breezeway. Today is Mother's Day but my mom told me to wait to write the review and begged me not to write it. However, reviews are important and I felt the need to write this review (this is my first ever review). For Mother's Day I wanted to get my mom a haircut which was $80 for haircut, wash and flat iron. Daniel I think is his name did a half - a ss job and when I saw my mom I could tell she did not love it. In fact, he barely straighten it to the point where I had to straighten her whole hair when I got back to the room. And the haircut... could have been a lot better. Just half a s s everything, even looked like he rushed through it all. I regret paying the $80 + tip (that I gave my mom to give him) however I would have rather paid that same amount of money and gone somewhere else. For Mother's Day too... save your money or go with the Asian woman DO NOT GO WITH DANIEL, specially if you have Asian hair. read more

Needed a haircut early in the Morning, they were thee only salon open (thank goodness). I didn't have to wait, I called ahead just to confirm they were open before 9 a.m. they waited for me. This is located in Ohana East, great location. I had trouble finding it, need to get security involved for directions once in the hotel. I was greeted and sat. My stylist was so sweet. She asked what I wanted and then she said "just shorter". I liked her right then, because that's exactly what I say, "just like it is, just shorter, and clean". Haircut came out so so, but my hair grows so fast I didn't mind. I think this maybe more for women or men with longer hair??? I don't know. Overjoyed with the outcome of my haircut!! I wanted to keep the length of my hair, but needed the damaged split ends removed, and some face framing. I'm always nervous to get a trim, especially at a salon I've never been to before, because I like the textured/feathered end look, and some salons just cut straight across. In the photos you can see she made a bald spot next to my sideburns, I believe she did this as an accident, when I asked why she had down that, she claimed she was giving me a squared cut and that it looks clean. Daniel turned out to be from Glendale,CA-what a hoot we had while he was working on my hair. We chatted non-stop. I got a very good haircut from Rosemary today. Her shop is a little hard to find - tucked in the ground floor of the Ohana East Hotel. If you find your self near a coin laundry (like I did) you are almost there. Go around the corner and into the entrance for the Ohana East. Great haircut, great price, and friendly service. While chatting with Rosemary I learned she has been cutting and styling hair for over 46 years so she is a bit of a legend. read more

I had gone to a Groupon hair color 'deal' at a spa nearby. I am a brunette and asked to become a 'honey/golden blonde'. What I ended up with was a soft red toned hair color which any red head would love....however, it's not what I wanted. I called Rose Mary at 1pm the next day and she saw me at 5:30 that evening. I am NOW a honey/golden blonde haired woman who is extremely pleased with the result and Rose Mary has a committed customer for many years to come. She is very low key and gets right to work. We were honeymooning in Hawaii, and I was too eager to get rid of the long hair I had grown for the wedding. So I thought it would be so convenient to pop down to the lobby of our hotel and get it chopped off into a bob cut that I've always had. On the phone she quoted me $25 for a cut, $35 for a cut and blow-dry, and $45 for wash, cut and blow-dry. I don't like getting my hair washed so I opted for just a cut, and when I got there she said it was always $35... I sit down for a cut by Rose herself. She's a very nice lady and we had a very pleasant chat, but I was not pleased with my hair cut. When I combed through my hair with my fingers after she finished, I found long pieces of hair that were missed in the back. I could pull them together with my hand. When I pointed it out she said it was part of the front and I had pulled it too far back... I showed it to her again and she reluctantly admitted to missing those pieces. I found more later in my hotel that I had to cut myself. The front pieces that frame my face are uneven... one side slightly shorter than the other so that it doesn't meet at the chin evenly. Overall, I only went here because I couldn't wait to come back to the mainland for a haircut. I wouldn't go back and I don't recommend it. She probably relies a lot on getting one-time tourist customers like me so doesn't really take her time to do a proper job since she'll likely never see these people again. So get your hair done here if you don't really care about your hair cut. Cash only, by the way. read more

A walked in with to make a future appointment and was greeted by Rose Mary, the very gracious and friendly shop owner, who said she had time to cut my hair right away. Win! I have very long and thick hair that takes a long time to cut. I am so happy with my cut and will be back. $35 is a steal too. I enjoyed talking to Rose Mary about how the area has changed ( she gas been in the same location for 40 years!!), her family, Kaui, and the Phillipines.
